I spent a week in London recently, and I could have easily eaten all three meals each of the days at the Borough Market. Such an eclectic collection of goodies. You have to spend an hour wandering around to figure out what you even want to eat before realizing you want to eat it all.
All I could remember was a friend of mine who recommended a fresh made sausage roll. I saw that sausage roll, and I went and got it. It was from the Northfield Farm. It was warm and flakey and full of well-seasoned sausage meat within.
After one bite, the fragrance floats up and bashes your nose in and you're hooked. I wanted to get the other flavor they had, but I showed restraint, since there were many more places to eat at around me.
I also had a salt beef sandwich from this place. After waiting in the long line, I got to the front, where the guy made the sandwich right in front of me. Very rustic, which I like. Hand shredding hunk of beef until it weighed the desired amount. Pickles that were irregularly cut as if they were slices in a hurry. Mustard slathered on each slice of bread.
Cut in half and handed to me. The obviously in-house baked rye bread had a pungent fragrance that slapped you, too. And yes, it was also delicious. It was a little dry, but I think that might just be how the sandwich is traditionally supposed to be.
Overall, this place was good. I got to go to a few other places in the Borough, but I had dozens that I wish I could have visited. Come here, though. Come. read more
