While traveling we found a Menard's when looking for a hardware store. Never been to one before…read more Went in for some plumbing items. It took tracking down two different employees to figure out where the item we needed was located as we were told in was located on the wrong isle. Went to check out and there is one cashier employee to cash people out that had a very long line. Help yourself check-outs were open and also had lines. Why can't stores understand by the lines for human help that customers do not want to help themselves? We will continue to seek out locally owned hardware stores that offer customer service for the people who keep them in business.

I am a bit mixed on this store, like really mixed on this store. Some aspects of it are great and…read moresome, not so much. The good, they have a solid variety of items and brands to choose from and the store is very shoppable. The layout is great, store is clean and they are well staffed with "some" very helpful people. I was surprised to not see them cary any really known and proven name brands in the power tools area (dewalt and the like) but I cannot say anything negative about what they do have as I have not used the unknown brands they do carry. The bad, well I have purchased two doors from them since living in the area. 1 was a shop door and that went great - cannot complain. 2 was a custom front door and this was a bad experience to say the least. It took 3 tries to get a door that was correct as well as undamaged. The first time, the door was nearly installed after total repot of the old door and low and behold, the door was not right. Cobble together the old door frame and then the store was trying to get in a new door that was undamaged. Took several tries and several trips into town to pick up the door from the store. Not a short drive by any means. I also incurred expense with he contractor to attempt to install the door, then to come back and put in the new (3rd) door that was finally correct. Quite the expense for me to go back and forth several times as well as pay someone to come out and work on the door. What did the store do to make me feel better, well not much. I did get a 40.00 discount on a garage door opener, better than nothing I guess but this still cost me a good chunk of money before the job was completed.

OK, so this is review 1,000 for me. I can't believe I got to this number, when I first became a…read moreYelper, I did not even think I would be kicking this many reviews out but here I am. Not only is it a great small town, locally-owned store filled with all of your hardware and lumber essentials that is staffed by friendly, knowledgeable local staff that lovingly helps take care of their community. It is that but it is so much more to me personally. You see, up until just awhile ago, it was owned by my dad. Now since my dad was the owner and manager of the store and I would work on/off at the place as a teenager, I didn't think I could really review this location without falling into some sort of conflict of interest. Now that my dad has retired (yeah!) and sold the business to new ownership, I think I can now give it a shoutout without any bias involved. I do want to give a quick shout out though to my dad. My dad worked long and hard at this business, building it from the ground up. He put so much of his life at this store, making sure to keep prices affordable, benefit his employees, and be a blessing to the surrounding community. He accomplished that for decades. He raised a family, put his kids through school, and have blessed his kids and his grandchildren immensely because of all that hard work. Each long, stressful day was worth it to my father because he greatly loved his family. I am forever grateful for his sacrifice and dedication to hard work. I love you dad! Ok, but this is not a review of my dad - on to the store! If you find yourself in the Hackensack area, this store has what you need for your cabin, camping trip, or day to day needs. Lots of selection that caters to various hardware and lumber needs including items such as coffee makers and outdoor décor. Items are competitively priced and friendly staff will help you find what you need. A good bonus - these folks live close by, so ask them about good fishing lakes, community events, best parking spaces for We-Fest, etc. They have the insider knowledge! Also, did I mention the free popcorn? When you are up north, you wanted to spend more time lounging and less time driving. Hackensack Lumber & Hardware is that one stop shop for all your needed hard goods in the lakes area.

on October 15th we drove 90 miles, one way, to Menards in International Falls where according to…read moretheir web page they had the shower I wanted in stock. when we arrived we found the shower was in fact not in stock so we ordered it. we left our contact information with name phone number and e mail address and paid for the shower. 5 weeks later and no phone call regarding the shower I call only to be told it arrived 3 weeks ago but there was no contact information. Looking at our invoice receipt I see everything clearly. So we again make the 90 mile one way trip to pick up the shower and bring it home and install it. Then on December 8th we received a call from Menards at about 8am which went to voice mail about 45 minutes later we received a phone call from our bank explaining that Menards couldn't get in touch with us and that apparently they "accidentally " shredded our check. upon calling Menards back we were given 2 different stories about the check. 1 it was accidentally shredded and 2 the bank didn't honor it due to lack of funds which we had plenty of funds to cover it. we made arrangements to go up over the weekend to settle it. Only to have Menards call us again demanding payment. So having had already taken the night off from work we head the 90 miles one way to International Falls. Where we again are told 2 different stories about the check. 1. a manager accidentally emptied an entire bin of checks and 2 the bank confirmed there were not enough funds to cash the check so they never ran it. Which the bank denied. Again we had more than enough to pay for the shower. When my boyfriend went in to settle everything he was told that Corprate has already been called and they advised that we pay in full immediately or they were going to press charges. we had came up in good faith to pay as it was the threat was not warranted and as the check is being written they inform my boyfriend Corprate also stated they would not compensate for the extra drive. All this while hostility repeating they will call the cops and it "will not go good for you" The manager can clearly see another check is being written but he continues to threaten and berate my boyfriend. After he come out to the car and told me what happened I called the store asking for Corprate office phone number only to be told by Katlyn she would not give it to me, no she would not transfer me to a manager but she would transfer me to whatever department I needed help in (I did not identify myself or my concern to her) So it is Menards policy to not let a customer speak to anyone but it is also the customers fault that somewhere an employee lost checks or money. It is the customers responsibility to go out of their way to fix an instore issue and it is the right of a store manager to treat customers so deplorable. This letter is not only going on review but I will be sending a copy to Corprate (as I have their number now) as well as to the BBB in a formal complaint.

Clean and organized. Not far from Voyageurs National Park if you need camping supplies.read more
