Kim Gierescher was my loan advisor and the experience started out well: she was nice and related well to me on the phone and email. It quickly went downhill from there. She couldn't find the correct interest rate for my loan. Understandable because it was called "off sheet" pricing for a specialty loan. But after 7 days, I still didn't have my loan estimate with loan costs or rate. Day 12, I got it and it seemed ok (albeit late) but the worst was yet to come...day before closing, her loan assistant for her team, called me and the rate had changed: it was 3.75 HIGHER than quoted 7.35 with zero points. Yes, 11.1 percent, lol. That in fairness was the rate for $1500 of waived fees and no points. But still, horrendous. Then, 5 that afternoon I got a call saying I no longer qualified for that loan!! My house deal fell through and I already gave up my apartment. Deposits to builder totalled $22,500.00 and that vanished because all earnest deposits non refundable after 10 days. This is pending in Kent County civil court as an active open case. Im hoping this fraudulent bank is held accountable! read more

Terrible customer service! They will have an excuse whenever you call and point fingers at a different department. My husband has tried adding me to the account for two weeks! We filled out and notarized the documents they sent us, and still no one seems to have an answer. Our All in one loan deposits sit out in limbo land for days before they post to our account and I have to call in to make that happen. I've honestly never had such terrible customer service, they could give two cents about helping you, they are incompitent at best. I've heard three times now that I will get a call back, and still nothing. We can't wait to get this loan paid off because we will NEVER use this bank again! You can clearly see by all the negative comments they could care less about your business., easy fix, just don't do business with them. Quite frankly, I'm shocked by all the positive reviews. That's not been our experience. First, please understand that I usually leave positive reviews for companies since so many people complain. However, with Northpointe, I feel an obligation to warn potential customers. In the fall of 2023, we opened an All-in-One loan, which is like a HELOC product. They worked hard to get us qualified, but once it was open, and we began using it for a flip home investment, things went downhill. For instance, I called for a payoff amount after we sold the home. When the rep gave me the amount, I verbally checked by stating, "So, if we pay this amount, this will cover all interest up to today, the account will be at a zero balance, and we won't owe any interest?" He said, "That's correct, as long as you pay that amount today." I checked once more just to be sure, and I received the same response. I paid the amount he gave me hours before the "deadline." Then, when I got the statement, we were charged interest when there was a zero balance. When my wife and I spoke with Northpointe reps, we were told by two different reps--in a very patronizing tone--that we just didn't understand how loans work. Wow...just wow. My wife is a CPA and I have dealt with finances for quite some time. We're both completely out of debt, so we understand loan products and how interest affects balances. I've never heard of a loan with a zero balance drawing interest. Many months later, while maintaining a zero balance on the All-in-One loan, I noticed a .18 cent interest fee. I called, and the rep said it was due to the $60 annual fee for the loan. I let her know that we paid the $60 on the same day it was posted. She said she couldn't figure out why the charge was there and someone would have to get back with me. That also happened with the first issue. While "hate" is a very strong word I don't normally use, my wife and I hate this company. Some reps are rude, some don't understand how their products or systems work, and I wish we hadn't spent the few thousand to get this loan generated. We are going to close this account asap as it's just not worth dealing with the ineptitude and rude attitudes we've experienced. Some other issues have been very long phone hold wait times with them eventually hanging up, forcing me to call back, and get in line again. When I've selected the option to hold my spot in line and get a call back, I don't get that call returned. Several times that we've called to resolve an issue, the rep gets flustered and then says someone from another department who better understands the issue will call back later; however, we didn't get a return call. Be warned, do your research, and make sure to read the other negative reviews before you partner with Northpointe. read more

This mortgage lender is very bad. I have mortgage with them, due to something I've missed one payment. So they called me on early may to make the current payment, but they only charge for april but don't ask for may mortgage. I thought I already make the mortgage for May. Instead, they reported to credit score reporting as late payment. Then I make payment on May 17. I would just try to refinance to get out from this problematic lender. Thank you. read more

At the end they weren't able to approve the loan due to primary residence proof, which we gave. Went to another lender and got the loan done within 3 weeks. This is the worst HYSA I've had the displeasure to work with. My plan was to take advantage of the 1.5% interest rate. Opening the account was the usual process - went just fine. After my initial $1k deposit I went to transfer a sizable amount and discovered that this bank does not allow ACH transfers between banks - they can only accept wire transfers or check deposit at a limit of $10k/day. To withdrawl funds, the same process. I tried calling in to discuss with them and guess what - their phone lines were down. I had to talk via chat and ask for them to call us. I told them I was shocked at their lack of ability to handle ACH transfers and wish to close the account. Because I'm closing before 120 days - a $10 fee and now I get to wait for my $990 check. Stay away! This bank is one of the most difficult banks I've ever dealt with. While they have very aggressive interest rates, their website is difficult to use and is prone to mistakes. I do not recommend making payments online! If you do make a payment you need to supply the ABA and Account number each time (they don't store it). A payment I thought I had made on the 27th, never completed (not sure what happened, and they can't tell me but they are happy to blame me for it). They didn't contact me until the 1st, at which point it was already 30 days late and in spite of the fact I made the payment while they were still on the phone, they still have zero regard for the complexity and hard to use nature of their website. They do not send emails or make calls, and for people who care about their credit score this can be the kiss of death if there is an oversight. I have spoken to several people there and none of them seem to have any concern for the damage this will do the credit score I've built up over 10 years (not a single late payment in my life). read more

Worst Mortgage Experience Ever! As a real estate investor, I have gone through the mortgage over 2 dozen times. I chose Northpointe after a recommendation and the mortgage officer provided better rates than another bank I was working with. The processor gave me incorrect information about how/where closing funds could come from, luckily I verified before I liquidated those accounts. She would not answer telephone calls or return phone calls. Only communication was via email and text. I was given a final CD 4 times only to be asked for additional documents after we were told we had final approval. The day before scheduled closing, they verified my wifes employment. We had been working with them for over 60 days as we had an extended closing timeframe. They requested "one" more document 3 times in the last 3 days. The house we were purchasing was in another state and we were doing an in person closing. The day before closing, we wired $121,000 in closing funds. On our 6 hour drive the day of closing, I received a call they couldn't close the loan because my wifes credit score had dropped 2 points (718/720) below the threshold - which they knew 2 weeks prior and never said was a problem. I would NEVER recommend this bank for a mortgage. Things started off bad but we continued. They gave me a total then changed it without adequate explanation. The locked-in rate went up. After closing, the escrow company called to say Northpointe insisted the amount was wrong and they demanded more money. Now after our construction is finished, they tell me I must requalify for the loan. That's not what I was told in the beginning. Lots of wasted time. They also said I have to pay my insurance premium for the year (prepaid) plus pay the premium every month in escrow. They continue to tell me that isn't double paying. What would you call it? If someone recommends this lender, as my builder did, look elsewhere. My builder tells me they would never recommend them again. I wish I knew someone at this company to discuss these problems since I'm stuck with this mortgage for a few years. read more

The agent restarted my loan process without asking. I lost the good interest rate. She avoided contact for nearly a month after saying she would fix this. I feel she ghosted me because she couldn't. I had to shake a lot of trees to get the agent to start reading email and returning calls. When she finally reached out she claimed she had fixed things - and at a better interest rate. When I got the papers to sign the interest rates and closing costs were MUCH higher, even though had I signed & completed the original paperwork for the loan they had agreed on. I was taking this loan out for family medical needs. Not only did the agent switch the loan terms, but this loan was supposed to be completed over a week ago. My rate lock has expired now, and I should never have turned down offers from more reliable & trustworthy agents. Do yourself a favor and go with someone else. read more

After 6 years with this bank who held my mortgage, they sold the mortgage (paid on the due date every month) but did not pay the property taxes that were due prior to selling the mortgage. I just recently learned while gathering my documents for filing my taxes, that my property taxes were not paid. This happens when they don't care. I was charged penalties for unpaid taxes. I have never had this happen before. Shame on Northpointe for dropping the ball. Would never recommend you and will be sure to let the company who handled the sale/purchase of our home know. read more

I initially signed up for Northpointe Bank because I read about their Ultimate Rewards Checking, which offers 5% APR interest up to 10k as long as you have direct deposit and make 15 debt card transactions each month. The promotion ended a few days after I signed up in November 2017. They offered me the rate for about 4 months. Definitely, there are hurdles and frustrations. Obviously the 5% interest was super enticing, but after 3 months, they sent a letter that they would no longer offer that rate to their current customers and I had a month to adjust to the changes. It's now at 0.01-0.05%. Many local banks around me offer a better rate. Gosh, even Capital One! (who have great customer service) When you bank online (because I don't live in Michigan) , you definitely need patience. Pro: 1. I certainly got my 5% APR, per month for the time I did get it. I didn't put too much money into the account (because I wasn't sure if it was a scam or not), but I certainly got enough interest for a cup of coffee each month. 2. It did function well as a bank. Such as, I used direct deposit from work, was able to use my debt card at stores, check balance online. 3. It did have an app for my smartphone ---it wasn't pretty, but it worked. I don't remember if it had fingerprint unlock function, but whatever. 4. I was able to pull cash from an ATM and got reimbursed for the transaction fee at the end of the month. Con: 1. Customer service hours - It is a small bank, and customer service only operates on their local business hours. I live in CA, so it doesn't work for me, when I want to call them after work --- a slight annoyance (since it's 2 hour difference), but definitely gets annoying when you want to reach them timely. --I enjoy calling Capital one and Chase at 3 AM to reverse charges, at Northpointe, Ha! I waited 8 minutes for a bunch of "I'm sorry." 2. The debit card I received, is the worst quality I have ever gotten. I have gotten plenty of Hotel Key Cards that is thicker and better quality. Heck even, the sample credit cards from questionable creditors look better--- a slight annoyance, but it works, so whatever. 3. Obviously, having my interest rate dropped significantly is not nice. I definitely would preferred a slower phase out. Or definitely be more upfront with the conditions and sustainability of their promotions. 4. The process to closing the Account and obtaining remaining funds on Account was a hassle. I submitted the online request on March 12, 2017. I called customer service twice (about a week apart) where they told me the normal process would take 2-4 Business Days, but they were behind on the process (apparently many people are closing accounts). I use Mint to track my finances, and Mint suggested to me it wasn't able to access my account around March 26-27, 2017. I just received my remaining balance on April 2, 2017 as a check. The balance doesn't match to my last balance on Mint and I haven't used any funds since March 12. It's off by $4.92 (obviously not to my benefit), I reviewed the fee schedule, and I can't tell what fees would get me to $4.92 (tried to see if they charged me for the stamp to mail to me, but nope.) I'm not going to contact Northpointe about this because I don't think it's worth it. My last statement was not attached to the check and I can't check my statements online, because they locked my online account. ***Update*** I did get a statement, about two weeks after - I got $0.08 for interest, and charged $5 for them to mail a check to me. I think reasonably, I should have gotten my funds in 10 business days from my request of cancellation. It's not like Chase bank where I can walk up to a teller, but I understand. If I wanted my funds quicker, I could have driven to Irvine or Michigan. Looking back, I should have withdrew majority of my funds from an ATM, with a remaining balance of $10, and reallocate it, instead of having it locked up with them for like 25 days. Ultimately, I just want to write this review, so everyone who is thinking about banking with Northepointe has an idea of what they are getting themselves into. I tried online banking, and I'm not sure it's for me. Well, I'm not sure if it's Online Banking in General, or Northpointe's version of online banking. The extra interest, even if it's so enticing, doesn't seem to make sense. My advice to Northpointe is understand your target market. Maybe I am naive to believe this product was for me. I signed up because of the great interest rate offer. When you got rid of it (within months), I was enticed to look for other competitive banking offers. I definitely wished closing my account could have been quicker. I am very fortunate that I don't live paycheck to paycheck, but I could imagine there are people that would be in trouble if they did not have faster access to their funds. From the reviews, it seems like your marketing strategy and offers change often --like a little too often. read more

Northpointe Bank is NOT a bank, it is a debt collection agency that happens to also service mortgage loans. They are NOT concerned at all with customer service. Everything is automated and that is their excuse for not bothering to pick up the phone and call me when there was an escrow recalculation that necessatated a change in my monthly mortgage payment. They received every single monthly payment on the first banking day of the month for 5+ years through my banks bill pay system. When my first monthly payment after the recalculation was $57 short...BOOM they reported a default to the credit bureaus knocking my 820 credit score down to under 700. No they couldn't be bothered to check my credit score. One does not have a credit score of 820 without being financial responsible over a long period of time. But no, Northpointe Bank couldn't find the time to pick up the phone and call me or my wife when the payment was short ...due to the escrow recalculation. WATCH OUT FOR THIS "BANK" AND AVOID DOING BUSINESS WITH THEM AT ALL COSTS!! read more

TRUST ME STAY AWAY FROM NORTHPOINTE BANK!!!! They purchased my mortgage and have been overcharging me for escrow insurance since day one. My down payment was large enough that I would pay escrow insurance. Their payment portal does not let you change the amount to be paid so you're forced to pay the amount they or not pay at all. I call after Northpointe after seeing this one as my first statement. The gentlemen I spoke to said he see they're over charging and put in a request to have a supervisor call me back. This was in April and I haven't heard from them still (7/27/22). I didn't pay April's statement hoping they would give me a callback. Nope, they reported to my credit that I was 30 days late payment...!!! These people are unreal and should not be able to operate a bank. I called today and spoke to a very rude lady that placed me on hold for 20 minutes to tell me she has put in a request for a Supervisor to give me a call lol! This place is a complete joke and plan to refinance with another institution. Do not be fooled!!! When I call my bank, they take care of anything I need immediately and have supervisors standing by to help. read more
