The medical staff are fine and competent people, the front office is rigid inflexible and uncaring. On three different occasions, including today, I or a family member has been turned away from an appointment for technical or monetary reasons. Today it was give us 111 dollars and change on you can't be seen. This included a back lab charge from November a co-pay I was expecting and a new lab charge that I don't even have a bill on yet. I'm legally blind on disability with a limited income, part of that I could have covered but I wasn't going to overdraft my account for the full amount, it's not payday yet. Dr. Helms is one of the most unethical doctors I've ever known. He's also one of the worst doctors I've ever known. I went in to see him about unusual chest and throat pain and he thought it was all in my head and prescribed SSRIs. It turned out to be a compressed nerve at C6 and C7 and it took me a year to get that diagnosis because I was screwing around with Dr. Helms and not a real doctor. It has a hometown atmosphere with personalized service. We drive from Alexandria and it is well worth the drive. Their Urgeny Care Clinic is also outstanding and very short waiting time. I have been a patient of Dr Michael Dupre for over 10 years. I had a appointment last week with Dr Dupre, not with Shannon Hall. I was less than 10 minutes late because of a mishap on the interstate. I drove from Jacksonville, Al. it was over an hours drive. I didn't ask for the traffic jam but I got into it because of someone' fender bender. I have never made it a practice to be late for any of my appointments. I always make it a point to be at least 15 minutes early. When I got to the office, I was told that I lost my appt. I offered to stay late and was told that Shannon Hall would not see me. Again, my Dr is Dr Michael Dupre and not Shannon Hall. Why was I dropped in her lap without my permission? She is not my Dr and I didn't ask for her. What happened to my choice? Someone else in the waiting room was also turned away. i will be looking for another PC Dr. I don't like to be treated like yesterdays garbage. Shannon Hall, again, you are not my choice for my PC Dr. That choice should be mine as to which Dr. I select to see. I felt like I was pushed on to you and it certainly wasn't my choice. I'm at the urgent care here and the lady that gave me the covid test was extremely rude, she just walks in the room and says "ahh ahh ahh" and i didn't know what she meant until it processed that she wanted me to open my mouth, and she was very aggressive putting the swab in my throat. and as soon as i asked for the covid test, the lady i was talking to walked out of the room and started whispering about me?? almost everyone here seems to hate their job but the front desk was amazing. read more

I'm having to rewrite my review because the horrible experience was due to the people I met in there and got turned away because she said they were closing in an hour and that wasn't going to be enough time. I must have gotten ahold of a secretary who was not feeling well and was ready to go home when she turned me away while I was seriously ill. They must have done some serious customer service training or some personnel restructuring because I have not had any problem like that since I've been back. One of the Drs was appalled when I told them that story. They said I will never have to worry about getting turned away again, that if the doors were unlocked I would be seen and treated and if they try to turn me away again just walk back there and find him or someone else. Now they have a lot of automated systems that make setting appointments, keeping appointments, and rescheduling them a breeze. The Dr's I am in with now is Dr. Helms's group. I see NP Jennings and she is wonderful. She paid attention to all my needs and not just the ones I came in for. She did a thorough exam, almost as if she was giving me a physical. She did her duties fully and I got in to see her very quickly even though I was a walk in and had to fill out all the new patient paperwork. I was shocked at the efficiency. The receptionist help you with everything. They are more than willing to help you with all of that long insurance paperwork and background info. But after you're in you obviously don't have to worry about any of that anymore. I had to update my review after my last experience due to my new ones. I give it four stars for all the work that was done but I almost give it just three stars because I needed referrals to go see other Dr's and the receptionist can't help you with that. They have a referral specialist. The receptionist will put you through to her line but she never answers the phone. You have to leave a 3-4min message about you, the Dr you need to see, all of your personal info, on and on. She says very sternly and almost hateful manner in her message to not call back and leave another message because "that will only delay the process"?!? I was there in November and the Dr asked me if I needed a referral and I said yes I have an appointment in two weeks. She said she would put it through right away. I could not get in touch with this referral lady. The receptionist at the Dr I had to go see was also calling trying to get that simple three day referral. The receptionist don't know anything about it. I had to go to that same Dr in which I needed the referral for from December to February with no referral and pay the full cash price bill for each appointment before I could be seen. That referral system cost me a lot of money! The referral answering machine says that a referral usually takes three business days (she should have said three months). She finally called me from a number disguised as an Egypt phone number and asked me what all Dr's I needed referrals for. I listed all the ones I could think of and I even told her I had a Dr's appointment the next day and she said that it would be no problem. So it obviously doesn't take three days for an insurance referral. So other than an insurance referral this place has been totally redesigned and built up three times the size it was. They have specialist of every kind there now (very convenient). It is THE place to go if you're sick anywhere near Pell City. read more

I waited for almost an hour while watching newly arrived people called back before me. I went to the front desk and asked why - and was immediately flagged as a "hostile" patient. The remainder of my visit I was treated with an aggressive, confrontational attitude. There is no bed-side manner, no caring attitude. I had a problem with my ear and throat with pain and swelling. Went to see Dr. Stephen Favrot. He said I had hardened ear wax and just ripped it out. Never tried to soften it or anything. When I asked him if he was going to check my throat, his answer was, "Nope. Stop smoking and it will clear up." Well I found another ENT in Talladega who is WONDERFUL, CARING, KIND, AND CONCERNED. I have had to have a CT scan to find out what's going on with my lingual tonsils and will find out next week if I will be facing surgery. Had Dr. Favrot not been a complete ass and checked my throat this could have been taken care of 2 months ago. I wouldn't recommend Dr. Favrot to my worse enemy!!! Filing HIPPA vilation against Northside, giving out patient records to wrong people, not checking ID and they records were no locked, just sitting on the information desk. One Dr at Northside also thought him telling me and my daughter about his penis piercings. Also was admitted to hospital and he wrote me prescriptions at the hospital w/o informing nursing staff at hospital about meds he added before I was released. Tried speaking with the person over Northside, refused to take our calls. read more

Northside Medical Associates will not see you if you don't have your deductible from insurance upfront. Although they know you have a serious medical concern and need MRI and keep calling you about other conditions that you need test ran on. I went there early December 2015 where my deductible had been met for the year. Had they went ahead and set up the MRI then, instead of prescribing steroids and pain medicine, I wouldn't be going through this. Now that a new year is in, I have to meet my deductible all over again. If I find out the knot I have on back of my leg is something serious, I will be getting an attorney for being refused treatment. When all they had to do was bill me the 20% that insurance didn't cover. read more
