Tucked away off Race St in OTR, the Cincinnati Recreation Commission is a great facility that also holds a boxing area, pool table, basketball, and more. I had a blast skating to some great tunes. I was really proud of myself for not falling at all, and everyone else seemed to get the hang of it too. I wasn't brave enough to try any tricks but enjoyed watching those who did. Thanks Cindy for the pizza and another great event, and to all the sponsors for providing much-needed bevs and snacks!

I was stoked to skate as it had been years since I last laced up and ventured onto the rink. You dig? The tunes were rad and had everyone boogieing in their skates. We got cool bandanas and a complimentary drink ticket. I got the 5 Star Stout (Tropical brewed with coffee). Awesome stuff. City Barbeque provided the delicious meal. We were given a tote bag with instructions on making a simple rub recipe, coupon and faqs about their business. I LOVED creating my own Rub! So much fun. My friend Brandy and I did not waste any time and headed to the Buffet line and got our meal. There was green beans (with bacon), Macaroni and Cheese (you can choose the toppings), Brisket (so tender and juicy, the best!!! YUM!!) and for desert- the peach cobbler. The long tables felt like we were outdoors on a picnic. Sweet!! After dinner, we were given a tour by Braxton Brewing Co. Very informative and interesting. It was short and to the point. They brew their beer at this location which is small, yet spacious. I've never been to Braxton Brewing and will definitely return. I love the décor and the long couch to chill out. My second drink is the Storm Golden Cream Ale (smooth and crisp). At the end of the night we had some pictures taken by WINKINGMANPHOTO.COM (Cool Props and backdrop provided). Predominantly a family run business, it is clear that they want to set themselves apart from the rest of the craft beer pack. We learned on our tour that one of the sons in the family started out brewing beers at home when he wasn't even old enough to buy a beer. At 18, he already had an award-winning concoction!! This place is so high-tech that in order to vie for some of the gift cards, you could tweet and see it almost instantaneously right there!! The facility itself was modern, spacious and clean. Co-hosting this amazing Yelp event was City Barbecue! They started off with a bang by letting us all go through their make-your-own-spice-rub bar to bring home some of the resulting deliciousness. Not only were the scents of their spices enticing, but the colors were as well. I don't know about you, but I can't wait to make use of it tomorrow!! Their brisket was mouthwatering and who could resist their mac n' cheese with extra fixings to top it with - think bacon and extra cheeses! After filling our tummies, we were sent home with their simple rub recipe, along with a small container of the one we had made with their ingredients. I found this to be a novel and fun idea!! Then as if that wasn't enough, they gave us a coupon for two free sides when we purchase the smoked meat from them. Here is a company trying to "rub' us the right way. We shredded beets, juiced lemons and set a big pot of brine to cook. This was something I never would have done on my own. Some of us hung out while our jars were getting their bath. The brine was so aromatic with clove, bay leaves, orange zest, honey....I could go on. I "can" not wait to open mine. Of course I always enjoy meeting fellow Yelpers! We pickled and canned beets over the course of the evening, doing everything from peeling and grating the beets (thank goodness for latex gloves) to placing the jars in the water bath. The brine included ginger, orange peel, cloves, juniper berries and more--it smelled amazing and I'm looking forward to trying out our creation. My one complaint is that I was hoping for a really basic Canning 101-type class. I know nothing about canning and have been afraid to attempt it on my own, so I really wanted a class that would address the basics. E.g., how to sterilize your jars, make sure they seal, not give anybody botulism. This class was not that. We canned something, but I didn't walk away understanding the "why" behind the steps and I definitely still wouldn't attempt it on my own. The farm itself is a really neat location and it looks like they have some cool programming. They sell their own chicken, pork, eggs and other products. I'm not sure I'd take another class unless I really knew what I was getting into, but I'd likely come back for the sunflower festival or to buy some farm fresh eggs. Edited to add: I think the overall issue with the class was it was more about production than learning. The canned beets required a lot of prep, and at times it felt like we were prep cooks in the back of a kitchen, just moving from task to task, racing against the clock. Now do this, now do that. We did end up with an interesting canned product at the end, but didn't learn much along the way. I agree with other reviewers who suggested canning something simpler so there'd be more time for instruction and Q&A.

While he doesn't live in the City of Mount Adams, he knew I would really like the area so we made a point to check it out. I kept saying, "are we really in Ohio right now?!" I seriously felt like I was in another city or hell, even another country at some points. The staggering of the homes along the hillside, the beautiful, luscious green park, the fun art and small businesses hidden on tiny corners... Gah I loved it all. Sure, it was a bit of a maze trying to make our way through the streets. However, that just added to the appeal. Pro tip - Check out the view up at the very top! Whether you climb the stairs or drive up, it's surely a sight to see.

It is a safe city comparatively. The schools are excellent. In 2020 it was even awarded 21st best place to live in the USA taking in to account many factors! The cost of housing here is a bit higher than other places in greater Cincy but it is well worth it. Taxes are comparable and your car/home insurance will be less. There are plenty of parks for outdoor activities, easy access to highways, ample restaurants and shopping, and a really great community center! The community center offers so much for residents year round! There are classes, a work out facility and more! Police and fire do a nice job and are very reliable. It has a great sense of community and pride in it. I really cant say anything bad about Mason, Ohio!

I walked in and smelled the aroma of the teas as they were brewing. Before the tasting, I was able to mingle with new faces. We started off with a 101 from the owner Tracy. She gave us some useful tips and info on teas. Some I knew because I have been going to Essencha for years. But for the most part, I learned alot. After the lecture, we were able walk around taste the different kinds/types of teas, enjoy the small bites (Mochi (Japanese Rice Dessert), Brownies, Rollups, etc), and mingled. You were able to try different types of teas: Black, Oolong, Green, White, Roobibos. My favorites were the Tumeric Ginger, Walnut, Apricot, Lapsang Souchong, and Hot Mama (Cinnamon with a kick). After the tasting, we played a game that Cindy set up. We were paired with someone we didn't know which I thought was really cool. Overall, another successful and awesome event. Sampling delicious teas was a great way to spend a bitter cold winter evening. The last time I…read morewent to a tea tasting (in another city), I was given tiny sips from medicine cups and also had to taste some teas with a plastic spoon while sharing germs with 20 strangers! eww gross! This tasting at Essencha was nothing like that previous experience. We were given our own individual glassware to sample the 5+ teas. Before the tasting, the owner Tracy gave us a quick history of how the tea shop came to be and also educated us on the basics of tea. I really appreciated how she presented tea as a very obtainable luxury and wasn't pretentious about it all. She seemed like a cool down to earth business owner with good knowledge about her products. My favorite tea of the evening was the walnut green tea. My favorite munch was the green tea mochibars. I couldn't get enough of the chewiness. I bought some of the walnut green tea and mochibars. The girl who rang me out was super friendly had very helpful with recommending teas in the future. I unfortunately had to skip out after an hour and missed the "Punny" portion of the evening. The Kind bar was perfect for after the workout and the water bottle helped rehydrated me during the class. There was no lack of space to do the workout and there were lots of people who showed up! Because they were on stage, it was easy to see Rita and Beth leading us. Man, they whipped my butt with their energetic moves; it was fun and an intense workout!! It was a beautiful, well-maintained facility. A big thank you to all who put this on.

A great cardio start for Sunday morning at the Mayerson JCC! My first time ever doing Zumba and I…read moreabsolutely loved it. At first I was alittle off, but as you start to get used to the moves, you get right into it. The instructors Beth and Rita were very energetic and threw an intense workout. This Zumba class was a mixture of Latina and a twist of hip hop moves. My heart rate was definately pumping. We had a huge class and everyone was getting into the music. It felt like it was alittle over an hour with the last 5 minutes of stretching. The room itself was spacious and you didn't have to worry about bumping into someone. The time went by so fast because I was having a lot of fun. I burned a total of 562 calories. Definately drenched with sweat! Very intesnse and had a great experience. I may even consider going back in the future because I really loved the workout and the instructors. Loved the Kind bars, Yelp water bottle, and hoise drink. Greatly appreciated. Thank you instructors, JCC, yelp and of course Cindy for throwing a great class. You guys rock!
