With no apartment and less than 10 days until move out, we both frantically emailed every listing on the usual apartment hunt channels. Martin, who was showing apartments for Blue Egg, went above and beyond to help us, driving my roommate around Brooklyn to look at several different spots in various neighborhoods. We eventually settled on a perfect apartment just within our price range and submitted our applications and a deposit that day. Although there were several holidays during our paperwork period, Elizabeth (the best!!!) was quick to reply even after business hours to let us know the status of our application. Elizabeth worked with the apartment owners to get our application approved. She really went way above and beyond what was required and I honestly can not type enough good things bout her. I was hesitant to work with Blue Egg because they have a few negative reviews, but after this experience and re-reading those carefully, it's clear that some people just do not understand how security deposits and applications are supposed to work. In the end, this was by far the most pleasant experience I've ever had with a broker. We really felt as though they had our back and their services bolstered the strength of our application. The landlord and property management were unresponsive and it took a huge amount of effort to get them to fix the problems we were having in the apartment, which included water damage and mold from the A/C units. When they did eventually send maintenance to fix things, they often didn't address the root issue or the maintenance people wouldn't show up. We kept finding new examples of mold and water damage in the unit and building, and eventually we moved out because of it after realizing some of the health issues we'd had while living there were related to the mold issue. All in all a pretty upsetting experience.
