After doing a great deal of research, we decided that NorthStar could save us money by ripping out our old, inefficient zero-clearance fireplace and putting in a 36" Fireplace Xtrordinair. The unit will more than paid for itself in savings after 3 years and we expect to go through about 4-5 cords of wood per winter. Spoke with Mark at the home and Garden show in Middletown NY last Spring (2014) to ask about pellet inserts. We set up an appointment and Mark came out to the house to look at our zero clearance fireplace and determined an install could be possible. We decided on the Travis Lopi AGP insert and scheduled the installalation. The crew came out as scheduled and on time, they were courteous, efficient and friendly and the job was done that day. They stuck around to give me a walk through on operation and routine maintanence. It's been a year now since the install.. we went from 3 + tanks of oil a season to less than half a tank (mainly for DHW) and the house instead of being 65 deg when we were home and set back to 58 while out, was kept a toasty 70 to 72 deg in spite of the unusually frigid winter we had this year. I heated the entire upper living area (1600 sq ft) in our bi-level home, 3 BR open floor plan kitchen LR and DR with a vaulted ceiling on about 2 bags of pellets a day. I did the math and even with oil at 2.50 a gallon at one point we still were saving money and I can't emphasize this enough, were far wamer with the stove. We became a customer of Northstar after a very cold winter in 2008. We were filling up our oil tank monthly and our house was always cold. We purchased an 36 inch Xtrordinair fireplace insert from Holly in the summer of 2008. The work they did was quick, clean and professional. Mark was there for the whole installation and made sure everything was done exceptionally well. Since the insert was put in, we only fill our oil tank twice a year and our home is cozy warm. The insert is clean and efficient and the heat circulates nicely throughout our 3300 sq. ft. home. We purchased our Hot Tub back in 2001 and have had 15 years of enjoyment! Whenever we had any concerns we would call Holly, Marc or Wade & someone would guide us through with troubleshooting and we were able to get it resolved. Today(4/3/2019) I finally met someone who knew what she was talking about related to problems I am experiencing related to my gas(propane) fireplace. I am having a soot buildup both in and around my fireplace and fear the air I am breathing. Holly gave me her time and could not have been more helpful. We have been a customer of Northstar Energy since 2008, purchased and had installed a Lopi Gas stove with remote control and in 2013 purchased and had them install a wood burning Lopi Fireplace Insert in our existing mason fireplace. We are happy with their work as it is very clean and professional. Their service is also excellent as we have them clean and service the Insert every year.
