My sweet cat passed away today while I was at home. The vet we normally take her to was closed so we went here. I normally would never leave a review anywhere but the staff here were incredibly supportive and nice. I decided to cremate my cat and the price was very reasonable and free of charge they gave me her paw print and a sweet card with it. read more

They took good care of my 1 year old ,feline ,fur baby, "Tiki". Tiki ended up with everyone rooting for him to get well. Surgery went well. My Tiki,unfortunately passed away while in their care. (Night shift) Approx 1am. I do not hold that against Doctor Biesinger or the daytime staff. Idk what quite happened that night, I was not there. Brought in my little dog on a Saturday with some wheezing issues. I could've got an appointment at the urgent care for my regular vet later in the day, but didn't want to wait. That was a mistake. This vet told me it would be about a 45 minute wait when I called, but I waited 35 in the room alone after waiting a while in the actual waiting room. All in all I spent about 3 hours total! The only positive is that they were very nice and friendly. I would have been more ok with everything if I had known ahead of time that it would be so long. read more

I had to take my cat to the emergency veterinarian: one New Year's Eve night: I found this place was open for emergencies: I brought my cat late on that night: the staff and doctor who were there were awesome and very helpful: the cat stayed there they took excellent care of him: He also had to visit them another time and he had to stay in the cat hospital for a day or two: they once more did a wonderful job making sure he was better: the first time I think he jumped from something and hurt his leg that was the emergency on the New Year's Eve: the second time he looked very bad like he was in some catfights or something because he used to be an indoor and outdoor cat: but now he's an indoor cat only: no more going out for Mr. Atticus, and he's all better and doing great, each visit was well an worth it for saving his health and making sure he was better and well taken care of by the Dr and the staff are always very polite courteous and very welcoming and friendly and professional. I personally recommend this place very much for Emergency Service and care for your babies or family pets. Here are pictures of Mr. Atticus and his brothers all happy and healthy Maine Coons Cats. Thank you so much to the doctors at northtowns. Our dog had an acute bout of bloody diarrhea and vomiting and went from bad to worse quickly. He had to be admitted for the night and looked absolutely awful. We had an excellent experience here. They took care of our dog which is truly the best thing we could ask for. They offered us a sizeable refund after it was time for him to leave for things not used throughout the duration of the hospital stay. We felt confident taking our dog home with the instructions we received and did not at all feel like we were ever being taken advantage of monetarily. Emergency pet care is very expensive at baseline and I wish we had pet insurance, so if there's a lesson to be learned, pet insurance is a must. If my pet needed emergency care in the area, I would not hesitate coming back to this ER. Above all, they did not push us to get unnecessary and costly treatments. They did the standard of care treatment. The doctors truly just wanted to take care of of our dog. The business was professional, kind, and ethical. I do think offering payment plans would help defray the delay in medical treatment and attract even more customers. Of note, they give you an itemized breakdown for every single thing they did in the hospital. Before they do start anything, they do give you their thoughts and connect you with a tech so they can tell you how much it would cost. They did an awesome job with our dog. read more

Yesterday, my seemingly healthy 16-year-old cat collapsed without warning, so we rushed him to the Northtowns Veterinary Emergency Services and they saw him right away. Dr. Biesinger treated our kitty and we found him to be knowledgeable and a good communicator. In the evening, after the test results had arrived, Dr. Biesinger called us to explain our options, given our cat had suffered a massive stroke. Far from recommending the most expensive course of action, which would have been to try to keep our pet alive, Dr. Biesinger explained how our little kitty would likely have more strokes and never again be healthy, so we opted for euthanasia and a private cremation. At midnight, we returned to the hospital for the euthanasia. Dr. Biesinger had already left, so Dr. Rottstock oversaw our final visit with our beloved cat. She was caring and competent, and the procedure was quick and painless. During all of our interactions, we found the vets, office staff and technicians to be polite and professional. As mentioned in other reviews, they expect payment up front (in this case, $1700 for the intake exam, stabilization fees, testing, medications, an IV, and an overnight stay charge). The final bill, including the euthanization, private cremation and taxes, was $2300. Given that this was an emergency situation and our cat was in critical condition, we were expecting high prices. I was in town from Arizona for the holidays and my shih tzu was experiencing back pain, so I brought him in. There was no wait and Dr. Howard and staff were very friendly. Dr. Howard took the time to ask questions so he could properly diagnose my dog and explained all treatment options thoroughly. I felt as though he truly cared about my dog. On Friday, 2/7/2020, my beloved dog, at only 5 years old, died suddenly and completely unexpectedly at home. My friend and I headed to Northtown 24 hour veterinary clinic with my deceased dog. I need to convey to the readers of this review how compassionate, professional, empathetic, and expertly they handled this very devastating event. A team of 4 came to my car with a little stretcher to carry my boy in (he was 65 lbs.). They delicately brought him to an exam room and gave us privacy so we could say goodbye. We left this practice after all our arrangements were completed feeling overwhelmed with the amazing loving care we received. This place is all about the money! Took my cat for an infection. Waited 3 hours for them just to look at him! Once we got into a room we waited another 40 minutes while they took him away for his examination. ( why do they do this?)The vet then wants to run bloodwork and we declined because he recently had bloodwork done at our vet. He needed an antibiotic. So they prescribed one and again we're waiting another 45 minutes! Then a girl comes out to tell us they don't have the antibiotic in the dose we need so they want to charge me another $50.00 on top of the already $280.00 I've already paid. I said to get another antibiotic that will work or give me the script. Wouldn't give me the script and they were going to send us home with nothing!!! Finally a young blonde haired boy who works as a receptionist helped us. If it wasn't for him we would have been there all day! He was such a great help! He got them to give us our antibiotic and finally my cat they kept in the back forever!!!! This was the worst experience I have ever had with a vet. Never again will I take any of my 5 pets there again! They don't seem to care about the pets as much as the bill they give you. Just so very sad for a vet to be this way. read more

I know this will be a bit chaotic, because I'm still angry. I wish I'd read reviews before coming here, but we're pet owners and we can be emotionally impatient. I brought my cat here today due to what I thought were some irregular breathing patterns. Most of the receptionists were friendly and seemed empathetic, so I thought it would be a positive experience. As stated in another review, there are absolutely no payment plans for anything and it's $140 as soon as you walk through the door, just for your pet to be acknowledged. Whatever. I thought that fee would go further, but that's just the cost of intake paperwork and for your pet to be taken in back. So they take my cat in back and I proceed to wait about a half hour. I finally get called to a room and am asked questions about her short 10 month history, as well as told that they still haven't been able to check her out, because she's being temperamental. I originally told them she would be and asked if I could come back with her, but I was told no. I'm sure that's normal, but they would've been able to check her out in minutes with my assistance. Pretty sure that's a setup for another money grab, because of course now the angry cat needs to be put under for anything to be done! The Dr comes in, probably the most redeeming part of the experience. She seemed to want to help. She told me some potential causes of breathing issues and basically gave me a process of elimination run down. She tells me she's going to check on my cat again and leaves. 10-15 minutes later another girl comes in, tells me they've made no progress checking her out, so they have no idea if anything is even wrong, but they want to do bloodwork and 2 x-rays, plus drugs to sedate her, just under $1600, plus the $140 I paid to be said hi to. I declined. I can sense when someone trying to sell me something is deceitful, or doesn't believe in what they're selling, or the price. The girl says suggests I talk the Dr again, so now they want the Dr to hopefully scare me, or sell me on the highway robbery. She comes in, says that she was told I wanted to speak to her. Lol. I correct her and tell her that I don't want to proceed. She tells me someone else will be in with my cat and to bring me discharge paperwork. This is where it became unacceptable to me. Some girl I haven't spoken to walks in, I really wish I would've gotten her name. This girl should not be working with animals, in healthcare, or even with other people. She was heavier set and had a ridiculous amount of eye make up on. She set the cage with my cat down as hard as she could have without it being considered 'dropped'. Then she said something, I couldn't hear her, I was completely ignoring her to pick the crate up and put it where I was sitting, away from her. Then I look at her and ask what she needs from me, then says 2 signatures, the first was to acknowledge that I'm taking my pet into my care before treatment has been 'completed' and the second signature was to "state that we aren't liable if your cat gets worse". You didn't do a fucking thing with my cat, couldn't determine if there was ANYTHING wrong, but that's how you choose to request a pet owner's signature for liabilities. That particular employee should be terminated. She speaks the fakest "have a nice day" as I left the room and not a soul said goodbye, nor even acknowledged me on my way out. I guess you have to allow them to take advantage of you to receive perks like that. I got a lot of hellos on my way in. Ha. Next level bullshit now. I'm in the car on my way home, or to another vet. I realize that she had diarrhea while she was at the vet, THEY DON'T SAY A WORD ABOUT IT TO ME, her butt is covered in poop, there's poop on the inside of the cage and the blanket that was in the cage, which both of my cats came home in, was gone. So on top of every single disservice I received there, they scared my cat into having diarrhea, don't tell me, but throw my cat's fucking blanket away. This place shouldn't even be in business. I brought my cat to another vet after, they let me come back with her, we checked her out in 3 minutes and they were able to determine that she is fine. That cost $49. Anywhere but here. read more

Honestly if I could get 0 stars I would it is that bad. For an emergency clinic/vet they are severally money hungry only. They first and foremost make you pay everything upfront with no payment plans even slightly offered and always over charge and then "refund" you after service. Not only that but I rushed my dog there and he needed surgery where I was told I would receive medical records and items removed from surgery and that he would only be there a day or two. Four days later they had no good explanation as to why he needed to stay and kept coming up with something or they were just so busy they couldnt let me know what was going on. I had to rush my dog to normal vet two days after discharge and there were zero full medical records from them just extreme vague and no description of even the surgery itself. My normal vet advised the incision was sloppy in itself and that he most likely had an infection. Two days after that I had to rush him back to GA and he was taken back which I never was able to say goodbye and was advised he was bleeding internally somewhere and they would perform surgery at no additional cost except anesthesia. I received a call a few hours later from the vet and was told my dog did not make it from the procedure (he was 9 months old may I add and fully up to date and regularly went to vet) when I began to cry and sniffle I was told she would call me back when I collected and processed to advise further. When she did call back first thing she asked is if I was able to compose myself (no I was not hysterical I was holding back tears as any pet owner would be) and there was absolutely zero compassion when she was telling me what happened. Honestly I would never recommend this vet to anyone nor would I bring a pet rock, they honestly should be ashamed. Over $6K spent for a simple foreign object extraction which my vet even said should have never required a 4 day stay unless complications (was told none) and only to have our family dog not come home.. yes I know there are risks but I received zero compassion and had they done the original procedure properly as even my vet advised he would have more than likely still be here and be the happy 9 month old puppy he was. In all my years as a pet owner, I have never been so angry as I was last night after taking my dog to this place for wheezing , since I called for advice and no one would give me any, other than to "bring her in." Right up front, $105. Just for admitting her. Then, I get taken into an exam room, where the doctor tells me her vitals are normal and there's nothing to be worried about, but then comes back and tells me he suggests a "couple xrays to make sure nothing is blocking her airway" and "some bloodwork to make sure she isn't infected with bacteria." Additional $450. Then tells me she's "just dehydrated." Proceeds to recommend some fluids and medication. Cool, I can make sure she gets plenty of water. Nope, they pump her full of fluids and prescribe STEROIDS and "hydration pills," the same stuff they pumped into her (fluids) in pill form. Next thing I know, I'm paying $900 for a dog that was simply dehydrated. This place is a complete scam and I'm doing my best to hold back some choice words that I'd prefer to use in the name of a tasteful review of a tasteless place, that preys on the fear of pet owners and act like vampires when it comes to sucking copious amount of money from you that is unnecessary. I will NEVER take my animals there again, and I highly suggest no one else pay the price I did, just because I was worried about my dog and they took advantage of that to ring up an insane and unnecessary bill. Brought my dog there a few weeks ago because his ears have been bothering him. Due to covid you just give them your pet and they call you about how much and treatment etc. They called me and told me ear treatment would be 320. I said okay 320 altogether including the initial visit? They said yes 320 altogether. I said okay great treat him. THEN I have two charges on my card for 109 AND 320. I called and the lady said oh sorry for the misunderstanding- didn't care. I'm disputing the charge. You can't tell people one amount then charge extra. Then I asked for the vet to call me when he could- never heard back. So I was told to come back a few weeks later for another treatment. So I went. They did another treatment and then left brown debris on his ear. Never going back!!! read more

They did the bare minis for my pit bull because they acted scared of him even though they put a muzzle on him beforw even taking him in the facility and then they gave him too high of a dosage of pain meds. I would not have given this place a 1/2 star in the review! I am appalled and disgusted with this vet. They ought to be closed down!!! My dog Scout was in rough shape as ailments he had been treated for over an 18 month period had finally caught up to him. I knew that time was short and I had a plan. I had contacted a home pet hospice vet to euthanize him at home when that time came. As a backup plan I made arrangements with the emergency vet hospital on Genesee Street in Cheektowaga. I thought I had all my ducks in a row. When that time came late in the afternoon on Memorial Day I reached out to the pet hospice vet (Paws in your Heart) who refused to answer the phone which is completely unprofessional. I enacted my back up plan and called the hospital on Genesee (Veterinary Emergency Clinic) as instructed. They told me not to come there as they were too busy and refused to see him although he was a prior patient. Now I was in a pickle! I called Northtowns Vet Emergency and they said bring him on in. Sadly we had to say goodbye to my best friend for a short 7 1/2 years. When everything was done and I went to pay the bill they charged me twice as much as any other emergency vet or at home vet would have charged. The vet up the street charges $200 and they charged $750. Ridiculous. It is disgusting that they would take advantage of someone in their time of need. I paid for the euthanasia and private cremation. It took over three weeks for them to provide the ashes and ceramic footprint. When I picked up his ashes there was another disgruntled pet owner there that busted them in a scam. Her cat was declawed and they were providing her with ashes and a paw print from a cat with claws. They were stuttering as they did not know what to do. How does she know who's ashes she has received! How do I know who's ashes I have received! I was suspect so I did some research on weights of ashes after cremation and for the size of dog Scout was the ashes weigh over twice as much as they should. I paid for a private cremation and either ended up with someone else's dog or for a group cremation. It makes me sick to my stomach. They have stolen him from me in his final days. Too bad these places are not inspected and scrutinized better. This place is the worst vet I have been to and I have been to some real scumbags- i.e. Harris Hill Animal Hospital, Veterinary Emergency Clinic- Genesee Street, True Care Vet Clarence, Paws in your Heart. I think they all ought to be shut down for malpractice or exploitation. read more

Bad. Just bad. My dog was limping and couldn't use her back leg. My boyfriend called and told them what was going on. Gave them all of her information. They said "ok. we're ready." I don't drive so my friend was kind enough to drive us. I was there 10 minutes later. I call, because you can't just go in with the covid restrictions. Apparently, my boyfriend was talking to himself AND it would be a 1 to 2 hour wait in the car and I would have to give them information all over again! HAD THEY TOLD MY BOYFRIEND IT WAS SUCH A LONG WAIT I WOULD HAVE CALLED THE OTHER EMERGENCY CLINIC. Don't even try to say that parking lot got full in 10 freeking minutes. Arrgh! read more

Took our dog here on Saturday night for emergency treatment. Was advised of the cost which was fine. We go to pick her up today and the cost is $900 more than the quote (upwards of $3,900 now)! No calls from this place of business explaining that the price was increasing THIS MUCH due to extra treatment that was required. NO communication regarding the billing, price increase, and EXTRA treatment required. While I am grateful that this clinic was open and available for emergent services, I am begrudged and for lack of a better word; disgusted. Shouldn't we, as pet owners, have the option to consent to care before it is rendered when the price increases by nearly a GRAND. long story short, they took a few things off of the bill and behold, the extra cost dropped to $240. We were advised this was due to "things being on bill that were not required". PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE check your bill when you walk out if this clinic. And to Northtowns, you should be ashamed of yourselves!! Emergent care for a 12 year old dog, that according to your vet we "should not be hopeful for", and you choose to nickel and dime your customers and take financial advantage of an already emotionally delicate situation. I'm appalled and disappointed in the way your business is run. I will ensure that I DO NOT recommend this place to anyone with ANY kind of pet. I had brought my cat in to Northtowns veterinary emergency services because at the time my own vet was gone on vacation, so I did not know where to go, so that was the only place open at the time, so I went there. When I had come home my cat was not moving she was in very much pain, so I carefully put her in the crate. My cat is an outdoor cat, she climbs everywhere. She didn't want to eat and she didn't want to move. I was afraid she had something broken. I brought her here and when I brought her in I had to wait an hour before they even checked her and she was in the crate. One petitioner came and looked in my crate and she pet the cat a little bit and seen that she was moving just a little bit and said it wasn't an emergency so she'd have to wait. I waited 4 hours that day for my cat to be seen while my cat was in severe pain . I also found out that they had other appointments, regular appointments that weren't emergencies and they cared for them before the emergencies which they never told me this. I would've left and went to another place. They were taking regular patients and placed them before they do the emergencies which is crazy because they don't tell you that. Two different people got in a fight and left with their animals but by that time I had already waited three hours. When I finally got in with my pet I went into a room and brought my pet with me instead of examining her in front of me they took my pet in the crate into another room. I could not see what they were doing they brought my cat back and said they did not know what was wrong with her but they needed to take x-rays. I asked them couldn't they see anything what was wrong with her by feeling her and asked them what they did. they would not give me any answers because they said they needed to take x-rays I said how much is that? it was another 200 or more dollars it was crazy because they won't give me any input whatsoever so I refused. They said they couldn't do anymore for me. When I called up for my appointment they said that it wouldn't be any more than $150 and when I left the place I paid $393.86 for nothing that's how crazy they are. I felt like crying my cat was still in pain so I called somebody else and asked him if I could come in, somebody I didn't know which was in the town of Gasport, they said sure bring her right in. I brought my cat in and I waited another 20 minutes which I did not mind it was not a long time for me being that I already waited over four hours and they looked at my cat and the person said that just by checking her in front of me they could tell that she had a wound on her hip and that's why she couldn't move it looks like somebody actually shot her either with a BB gun or something and it had damaged her hip bone. She could tell this by just check on her physically and she even showed me I did not see it myself because the hair was covering it but somebody that is efficient would have checked her whole body would've seen this. she could not understand why the other person didn't see it, so she gave me some medicine and fixed my cat and I brought her home. She was on her side for a couple of more days and I kept her in the crate for at least four days which the woman told me to so she would not hurt herself. I was also charged under $100 and she did not have to take x-rays because just by feeling she knew what was wrong exactly and that's what you call a good doctor. This place that is Northtowns veterinary emergency is just in it for the money. believe me, it's not about your animal hurting and that's sad! AVOID THIS PLACE IF AT ALL POSSIBLE! They charge over-the-top ridiculous prices and botched my dog's surgery, resulting in part of his ear getting necrotic and infected. I brought him to my regular vet and they had to re-do the surgery correctly, and for about one-third of the price. People PLEASE beware there is a female vet there that i advising clients to.. , and succeeding in putting puppies down for no reason...I thought it was just ours,but I've also heard of another in the past week. She is misdiagnosing liver shunt (without testing for it) for hypoglycemia..which puppies also have seizures with,and sometimes coma, and come out of just fine,hypoglycemia is from a drop in blood sugar which occurs in some weaning puppies and can be brought on by stress of a new home,leaving mom... which is what ours did. If my mother wouldn't have refused to hand them over $200 to put her pup down ,, our pup would be euthanized for no reason . Instead she brought him home and he's a normal happy puppy,came out of it just fine. NO liver shunt. The other woman's puppy was put down unfortunately. This vet needs to be stopped. I honestly believe if you don't fork over extra cash for unnecessary testing,they will simply advise euthanizing. Horrible,horrible practice. PLEASE BEWARE,and I would give no stars. read more

We went here because our dog injured her leg and we couldn't get into our regular Vet before the weekend and we didn't want our girl to be in pain until then. I called ahead as a courtesy since I saw online they say they are open and take emergencies "24/7". I thought a call ahead was the right thing to do however. The person I spoke with on the phone was very nice and she informed us that yes, we can come right in but they are still seeing their "regular day" clients until 7pm but would do their best to fit us in between appointments. We understand there could be a potential wait at any place we go where we don't have an appointment so we understood that. However, we arrived at 4:45pm and were told we had to pay for the visit up front. I thought that was weird but ok, we did so. My dog gets extremely stressed out at the Vets office so I let them know she would be hanging out with my hubby in the car until they were ready to see her. They said that was fine. 1.25 hrs later they told us they were ready so I grabbed my hubby and dog and we now waited in the other waiting room. And we waited. And waited some more. And even more still. Until finally a tech came in to tell us basically this Dr isn't going to see us, but the night Dr will be in at 7pm (20 more mins from then) and we would have to wait for him. Seriously?! If you aren't going to take emergency appointments while the regular practice is open, don't advertise that you DO take them! I would like to add that while I waited in the waiting room the Vet (Parkhill) stood in the waiting room talking to someone from a rescue about her children and other personal matters for 15 mins! She could have seen my dog in that amount of time. It just really felt like a slap in the face and that she couldn't be bothered with us. The worst part is that she flew out of the driveway at 6:55pm kicking up gravel w her tires. If you're that miserable at your job, do something else. I also watched a woman wait for over an hour to be checked out. She finally went up to the counter asking to be checked out and was told "oh theres no charge for today. It was just a recheck!". Why didn't you tell her that after her visit an hour ago?! Lastly, there was blood on the floor from a dog that was bleeding. While I totally understand that is part of the job, I watched an assistant run out into the parking lot to flag a car down that forgot their rabies tag but the blood was still all over the floor, inside by the doors, and outside all over the sidewalk and driveway for over an hour. I do have to say that the Dr who did see us (the 7pm Dr) was extremely nice and apologetic but at that point, we had all just had enough. read more

Wasn't happy at all they weren't calling us to clue us in on what was going on with our dog! I would call them and get put on hold for 15, 20 min then talk to a technician that wouldn't tell you anything. She didn't know. Said the Dr was going to call us back later that day and they never even called back! The only time they called is to say they were going to keep him again overnight with no other info on him. Your spending all this money on your dog and for not to know what's going on with him? He got transferred yesterday to the Orchard Park one thank god. I didn't even want to give one star, that's how badly I feel about this place. My daughter has been there a few times out of necessity. First with her Cavalier King Charles age of 10 who clearly had a stroke. We knew we were going to half to say goodbye to him as his whole left size was paralyzed. She was told she could wait in the waiting room or surrender him to the tech! They were busy. My daughter refuse to hand him off. Oh and they wanted her to pay up front before even being place in a room to be seen. Then gave her a hard time refunding her when she decided to take him to Genesee Emergency Vets. (Who by the way were wonderful.) She just had another experience just as bad there. She only went there because it was after six on a Friday night and her puppy was throwing up and not acting right and was afraid to take the extra time to get to Genesee Emergency. She was sure she had a blockage. They did get her in a room but only by having to pay first to be seen and checked. Then came X-rays. There did seem to be a blockage and surgery was going to cost $6000.00! Are they crazy!!! My daughter is now so upset, doesn't have that kind of money, thinking she is going to have to put her down. This place wouldn't work with her in any way to come up with some kind of way for her to pay. It was all up front or nothing. She called around and was able to find Hamburg emergency vet open and was able to take her Puppy there. They told her that they could not figure out where Northtown Emergency vets came up with a $6000 fee. Northtown is a major ripoff joint. They argued with her about how much of a refund she was to get back again and still she ended up paying for some things twice. They play on your emotions and your love for your animal to screw you over big time. Oh and the best part was when she told them she was leaving with her dog they asked her if she was going to get the issue taken care of! REALLY! That if she wasn't she could take the dog to the SPCA!!! This place doesn't care about your animal or you, just about how much they can make off of you! If you can find another place to take your fur babies in an emergency situation, please do so. I have named two in this review that I would go back to in a heartbeat. The only thing they care about is how much $$$ they can get out of you. Not about the care they can give your pet. Throughly disgusting and UNBELIEVABLE!! Will never go back there! read more
