All was well until the merger with Twinstar. To say that I no longer wish to bank here is an understatement. I haven't been able to access my accounts and then my account went past due, and when speaking on the phone to anyone who could help me, it was a different answer and a different process EVERY time we spoke to anyone. Fast forward to calling out of desperation and not wanting our account to get behind further, Member Services transferred me to Collections and instead of understanding our frustration and realizing there was a technical problem with our account, we were threatened by Trent. He talked down to us and was a jerk (trying to not be rude here). I will NEVER recommend this credit union to anyone I like or even people I don't like. NO ONE deserves to be treated this poorly! Worst credit union i have EVER delt with. If your pay is set through direct deposit they refuse to let pay clear untill the date on check and any transactions while pending rack up endless amounts! No other bank ive ever had would hold it as long as they do and collect that much in late charges. Most of them if the check clears wolnt hit you with endless overdrafts because the check is in there. So if you enjoy paying 4x more than you should this is the scamming bank for you. I initially had a negative experience with NW Community Credit Union phone support on 2 occasions. There was an issue with my autopay not going through and I received $40.00 late fee 15 days after the due date. I have made all my payments on time and thought they would be happy to take my payment and reverse the charge. I have always received good support when going to the Albany Oregon branch, so I stopped in to have a visit with the branch manager. I have to say Trena Ball changed changed my bad experience with a very good one. She was able to get my auto pay setup again and reversed the late fee. So, if you need help with NW Community Credit Union, I recommend just driving to the bank in person to get the help you need. read more

I would say overall northwest community as a whole is 3.5 stars in my opinion. Here's the ups and downs. Good: -multiple convenient locations -nice staff -good online banking -I had a sizable misunderstanding with a vendor and the vendor kept claiming he refunded me (never did) so I reached out to northwest and they investigated my proof that I sent them and they took care of it immediately Bad: -not a huge fan of their ATMS... I do lots of cash deposits (I'm a bartender) and I usually use a different banks ATM because northwest ATMs always spit the cash back out. -when I do call customer service it takes usually 30+ min to talk to a real person -there was one instance where nobody that uses northwest could see their online banking and deposits etc could not be made. been with my credit union for about ten years now. Ever since the pandemic a lot of their staff have either quit or retired. And now it's the worst business I know of. So I used my PayPal cash card with the automatic Top-Up feature (which is linked to my cu checking) to check out my eBay shopping cart. This was supposed to be a SINGLE transaction for about $165. This would have been only one $28 insufficient funds fee plus the top up amount charged to my cu checking account. But for some reason PayPal had broken it up into individual transactions per item in the shopping cart. They kept on charging my bank for these individual amounts in $10 increments. Which has resulted in my nwcc account now being $803 overdrafted. This goes against paypals user agreement. Once I brought it to their attention, PayPal fixed the issues on their end an even provided me with an email to send to nwccu explaining how it was their error, and a their external request to reverse the insufficient funds fees on my behalf.** Especially since they didn't go through*. Nwccu reversed five of the fees but will not do the remaining 12 that are from the same single transaction. Instead they are requiring that PayPal or I pay them. Nwccu will not provide me with an explanation as to why they only reversed five of their fees, and they have closed out my account and are sending me to collections. I personally feel that by them reversing five of them is them acknowledging and admitting that it was an error. And that they're ignoring the rest of them is a personal attack on me in an attempt to just get rid of me because I do not make them much interest. I'm more than willing to provide all documentation to prove what I'm saying from both my PayPal account and my Northwest community credit Union account. What's really sad is I remember going in there when I was a little girl with my dad, and up until recently I was bringing my son in with me. So needless to say this extremely devastating to me. I agree with the the lastvreview. The credit union is treating us like a number instead of a human. They act ike a bank who cares more about profit and charging fees. My updated debit card had not arrived prior to expiring. I had called at the beginning of the month to ask about it and was told it would be mailed out in 2 weeks. I've checked the mail daily and no card arrived. I called today and was told I'd have to pay $50 for expedite mailing so it can be tracked. Both Rochelle and Alisa who are able to waive the fee, refused and hid behind policy. Just like banks do. Last time this same thing happened after they claimed to mail it out twice. They waived the fee at time so I know it is possible. Ive had house loan, car loans and credit card with them. Both house and car loans were paid off. Yet this is how they treat us. I have been with them for over 25 years. I have had several problems in the last few years but I didn't want to deal with the hassle of starting a new account elsewhere. Then today I got a call that the the check I deposited via mobile banking was being taken out of my account because it wasn't clear. ( I looked at it and I can't figure out what isn't clear) So I sign in to look at my account and everything from the last 2 1/2 weeks is gone. Every transaction. So I call to see why. I give my name, account number, phone number and address. They ask for a recent transaction which I can't see, so they want to send me a focusing to attach my ID to, sign and send back! So I sat I had a payroll deposit on Wednesday and I told them my employers name and the amount and they wouldn't accept anything except focusing. I just want my account updated and honestly my check deposited. The copy is clear. I am definitely going to find a new financial institution. So sad after all these years. read more

We moved to town from out of state and decided to use Northwest Community Credit Union for our banking. Our first contact was with Fumei at the Springfield OR office. Fumai was unbelievably kind and helpful. She made us feel so welcomed. After opening our initial accounts, we had several other questions and tasks to take care of. Without fail, we could get quick appointments and quick answers to our questions from her. The first time I went to the downtown offices in Eugene, the teller was very helpful and gave me great advice about different savings/checking accounts we could choose to use. Teller machines have been working fine and we are very happy with the service provided. In fact, we commented a couple of times as we left the Credit union about how friendly the workers are. read more

I was (literally) grandfathered in by my grandpa as a kid. Never really had problems with the institution until skip forward a few years into my late twenties and the cracks begin showing. They are extremely difficult to work with anymore. The people that did respect me as a client stopped working there a year or so ago and everyone now treats everyone like less-than-human. I've never felt so ashamed to be poor than at this one point in my life where I need help, and this institution has essentially shunned me. I don't know what all to say really. The one time in my life where I'm at a low point, this place has totally turned their back on me. This is not the bank I grew up with. They are not the people who care for their members and clients anymore. They are a dying company and they know. Their ship is sinking and they're sucking dry all who are still vested with them. They even changed mailing policies; charging $10 for snail-mail statement letters, without telling members and without mentioning an opt-out to only receive e-mails. Who does this? I have always had a good experience when I have gone into a branch, but when I call for help I am always shocked at how poor the customer service is here. Most recently, I was charged $5 because a document they sent to my old house we returned to them for an incorrect address. I apparently had changed my address on my personal account but not on my business account. I have been waiting for the last three weeks to receive an email from them granting me online access to my business account.... So obviously I was unable to change it online. When I asked if they could waive the fee I was told no... and that if I was still waiting on access to my business account online I should have called them or gone into a branch to change it. So thus, it was my fault the mail was returned. Yes... $5 is not a ton of money, but it is still $5. They also charge you $5 as a "research fee" to access any of your statements from the past. (Unless you go into a branch to get them, in which case they are super helpful). I have never been treated so poorly by my bank. As much as I don't want to go through the process, I plan to switch banks soon, as I fear these guys will totally screw me in the future should I ever need assistance from them. Switching to OCCU. NWCU's mobile presence is terrible. Online banking / mobile app is down too frequently for maintenance. Even when it's online I have nothing but problems logging in to the mobile app. It's not my phones (same issues on S9 and my S20), it's not the numerous WiFi hotspots this occurs on and it's not Verizon. I quit calling member services about it. The last time I called I started explaining and the guy just cuts me off mid-sentence, "Yeah you calling about the mobile app being down? Yeah we know." NWCU's garbage software has denied me access to my money so many times and it's usually at the most inconvenient time. I could never recommend this credit union to anyone. Other people might have better experiences with the app than me, but i doubt it. When i'm denied access to my money via a mobile app in the year 2020, i'm leaving. read more

I have my car loan from these folks and when I moved, I had to go to DMV to get my new license plates. Suffice to say, these folks were absolutely worthless in getting my copy of the title to WA state DMV. It took 3 trips of mine to the DMV since NWCCU couldn't get a legit copy of my title to DMV. I spoke to no less than 6 different folks in trying to get this resolved. My advice, steer clear of here folks. Nice folks but absolutely incompetent. read more

Once again, I have had a very discouraging experience with NWCU. I called to get a 1099 for my taxes, because I wasn't sent one and because, conveniently, it's not available on the website. Not knowing I needed to have my account open in front of me, an apathetic teenager named Griffin starts asking me about my recent debit card and ATM transactions. Honestly, I don't even know where my debit card is for this account and haven't used it since last year. So why would I remember the date of that transaction? Is there a reason why his verification questions can't be more reasonable? Like, what is your account number, who is the joint account holder and what is his/her birthdate? How about the last 4 numbers of my SSN? He insists the ATM questions are the only ones he can use to verify my identity. All to get a 1099 that should be AVAILABLE ON THE WEBSITE. So Griffin tells me I will get a call back "within the next business day." So, had this same experience back in 2012 when I was applying for a mortgage, except no one ever called me back. I'd like to close my accounts, but what sucks so badly about this is that my money is being held hostage. The minimum balance on an MMA account is $1000 that you cannot withdraw at an ATM. So, unless I can get someone on the phone, this money is absolutely inaccessible to me. I live in Washington. I can't drive all the way down there, and so I'm relegated to waiting for a phone call that will likely never come. UPDATE 3/6/2019: As expected, the return phone call came after almost a week! A WEEK! Which was notably after I'd driven down, withdrawn all of my money and closed my accounts. And to think, this could all have been prevented if the 1099 was available on the website, or if Griffin could simply have told me that a 1099 wasn't issued for my account this year, which was the actual truth. Over the years it has declined in so many ways. I've seen soooo many staff come and go I don't even see the regulars anymore. An error was made in their part but somehow was out back on me. For a while they had a sign posted at the W.11th location that stated that concealed handguns were not allowed. (How this is to be enforced is beyond me) I asked the manager that since this was a member owned institution, why they did not poll the membership to find out members opinions on this issue before trampling on everyone's second amendment rights. She had no answer, but said that she would get in touch with corporate for me. She never did. I repeated my request twice and never heard back from her. I've been banking with NCCU no problems for about 2 years. Yesterday I attempted to open a second checking account so that I could separate mine and my husband's spending, and I was told because of my credit score (which was not an issue when we first opened our account) I could not qualify for their free checking. My only option was to open their checking account that had a ridiculous monthly fee (that the representative tried to downplay, but to me $7 a month matters) and they would "re evaluate after 6 months to a year" whether I could get the totally free checking. This is despite having a checking account in good standing for over 2 years already. This kind of nickle and diming is exactly why I chose to bank at a credit union, I'll be looking elsewhere to move our accounts. read more

I have been banking with Northwest for nearly ten years. I loved them so much at the time because I was coming from Bank of America where I got overdraft fees of $30 for dipping below by pennies! Now Northwest is doing the same exact thing! They are acting more like a big bank. I got charged a returned check fee for a transfer from another account that didn't work then an overdraft fee of $28 because of the returned check fee and they didn't even pay my bill. Another time I noticed we were like $2 short in the bank account so I raced down there to throw some cash in before we got an overdraft fee but I was 5 minutes too late and they only reverse one fee per year. I'm working on finding a different bank. Maybe one that doesn't punish you for not having thousands of dollars in your account! I will be closing out my account once I find a new bank. This one feels just like a big bank to me. fees and charges around every corner! It makes it really hard for a family to pay off debt when we get charged for every little mistake we make. And because of them, I won't have the car I want. They had zero reason to reject me as the finance guy at the dealership said they CONSISTENTLY do deals with people that have my credit score and even lower. After signing the paperwork, and all week long driving the jeep, they call me and tell me I wasn't approved. Now, they want me to pay either $60+ a month more WITH NOW NO WARRANTY...... or, pay $635 with the warranty. The payment was $386 to begin with. We ended up giving them a shot, for our convenience to have our accounts and loans in the same location and again are s DISAPPOINTED to say the least with this service. Next, I can't get a live person on the phone or a call back. So, on 10/5/18 I messaged them online, "Hey guys, it's pretty damned hard to pay my car payment when I can't transfer the funds and noone there will answer the phone or call back!!!" I've been a member of NWCU for the last 15 years and am currently transitioning over to another institution. My complaints about them are mostly minor annoyances that have been accumulating over time. One night I asked my husband to make a deposit through the ATM and he didn't remove my card quickly enough so the machine ate it. I went to my local branch the next morning to get the card replaced and was informed their printer wasn't working that day so I'd have to go to the downtown office to get that done. When I got there I was told there was a $5 fee for replacing the card and it felt like insult added to injury. My few in-person dealings with the employees haven't been unpleasant; however, phone and online interactions have often been frustrating. I don't know that the service at NWCU is any worse or better than other credit unions, honestly, but the interest rates among online banks are far superior. read more

While the personnel are friendly enough, NWCU DOES NOT care about their members. Their policies are as draconian as a bank like BofA or Wells Fargo, so beware. You would think that an institution where their customers were also stakeholders would be able to resolve disputes with a little compassion and have some ability to make common sense adjustments. If you have direct deposit setup with them, don't count on your money being available on payday. US Bank does a better job with depositing your funds. I am sad to report that after 8+ years of banking with NWCU, I am leaving NWCU due to poor customer support and laziness. I created a new startup company that took over another active business and went to NWCU to get the business bank account and other financials ready for opening day. I worked with a representative at the green district office location to get everything going. At first the rep was great, but when asked to make some changes on the account the rep was very rude and lazy, quite frankly. They tried billing me for additional insurance on my car loan when I was insured because the insurance made a typo on the credit union name. Lucky for me the insurance company stood up for me. I can't stand this company. We have an account with Umpqua bank and Northwest Community Credit Union, the differences are insane. Northwest community credit union will hold your money for as long as possible whether its a direct deposit check, cash, any of it. For example your employer pays you early because it's a holiday weekend, every single one of my coworkers gets paid the day before the holiday but my check (and any other coworker with Northwest) will sit in there pending for days. Will be pending in there Wednesday but not released until Friday at 6am, Friday is the holiday. Also, when a paycheck is deposited into my Umpqua Bank account it's available at 3am (that day, not 2 days later) Northwest Community Credit union doesn't release it (after its had it pending for 24-48 hours) until 6am which when you work swing, it's nice to not wait until 6am. Refunds also for an online purchase take days longer than other financial institutions. They even hold cash you deposit in their ATMs. It's cash! They won't give you more than $200 if you deposit $1000 on a Friday you're not getting it until Monday, or Tuesday if Monday is a holiday. Can't stand them. If it wasn't for so many automatic payments and what not I'd close the account. They also force me to have a savings account or will charge me a fee when I don't even need a savings account I'm to poor for that.
