Their online appointment system using Zocdoc is just worthless. The system will show you available times for a given doctor, but will usually then tell you that "the appointment is no longer available" when you try to select it. This keeps happening even when I select different doctors and locatoins. Just an awful and frustrating experience. read more

I have a crooked hammertoe that is ripping off the toenail with every step. There is also an ulcer on the end of the toe as well as one between the little toe and next to it on my left foot. I called NW Extremity in Nov. 2024 to request an appointment. I was told Jan. 8th then in Dec. 2024 I was told Jan. 22nd. I went to my appointment to be told it was really Jan 29th!! I went to the appointment on the 29th. Dr. Mah spent 2 minutes with me while I tried to explain the the toenail was causing pain. He said there was nothing wrong with my toenail but I needed surgery and ordered an x-ray. After x-ray he returned for maybe 5 minutes to tell me there was no infection but he needed an ultrasound to determine blood flow. And that he wanted to sever tendons in that toe to straighten it out. After the ultrasound I saw Dr. Mah again on the 19th of February. While waiting I observed other patients who had the same appointment time with Dr. Mah as I did. Again he spent no more than 5 minutes with me. Told me my toes were cold and I needed this medication. At that time he observed the ulcers and did nothing to help that situation. I asked if he was going to send a prescription to my pharmacy and he told me as he was walking away that it cost $50 and someone would call me. Not what the medication was for! I assumed it was for the ulcers. I asked his assistant about the medication and he told me someone was going to call me and if I said yes they would send it! Again not what the medication was. After 2 days I had not heard anymore about the medication. I tried to call the office but there is no option to speak to anyone. They did say that the Milwaukie office would be open until 4 PM. I went to the office and the front counter tried to tell me they were closed. I told them their phone message said other wise. Found out the name of the "cash only" pharmacy and the name of the medication which was basically herbs that was for blood flow and nothing to help the ulcers. Too many red flags to feel confident about him coming near me with a scalpel. I went to my primary care give to be told there was bone exposure and was promptly correctly treated. The ulcers may have been an allergic reaction to topical pain relivers I was using. I have been referred to an orthopedic surgeon that specializes in foot and ankle. Needless to say I would never recommend Dr. Mah or NW Extremity. read more

I am an established patient coming in to talk to my doctor about neuropathy and he acted like I was some drug-seeking stranger. And then I saw another doctor had a different location who had a horrible manner in jail horrible inspection and treatment of a problem I had. So I'm done with them. The staff gives the impression that patients are just an annoyance. They won't answer questions. The on-line check-in process, which takes about 20 minutes if you don't make any mistakes, asks the same questions for every appointment, even though the information is unchanged. Patients are made to feel that their time and effort are worthless and everything is focused on making it easier for the company. Even the technician I dealt with appeared irritated that I was even there. Their customer service phone line is in Columbia South America and you can't understand what they're saying. The last time I talked to them, I got absolutely the wrong information. This is the most annoying medical practice I have ever dealt with. read more

This rating is specifically for Dr Beach (not NW Extremities as a whole) as I can not attest to the other practitioners as I have no experience with them. I can not recommend Dr Beach enough. She is the best podiatrist I have ever been to. She is kind and caring and she actually listens. She doesn't push unwanted products on you (i.e. custom orthotics that you may not need) and will recommend exactly what you need even if it means buying it from elsewhere. I avoided going to the podiatrist due to terrible experiences in the past but it got to a point where the arch of my foot and achilles were so bad that my shin started throbbing, I was losing sleep, my first step of the morning was met with horrible pain and I struggled to walk even short distances. Finally after googling a million podiatrists, I stumbled upon Dr Beach. During our appointment she empathetically listened and diagnosed my issues with genuine care. Never once did I feel like she was rushing to move on to the next patient. Dr Beach recommended exercises and products (inexpensive products by the way) that I needed to alleviate my feet and achilles issues and had a plan B if all that failed. I went back after 3 weeks for a follow up at which time she also happily helped me with another issue. My foot and achilles isn't 100% better yet but it's so much better than it was and I'm on the mend listening to all of Dr's Beaches advise. I wish I had found her sooner. If you have any kind of feet problems, I highly recommend you see Dr. Beach. read more

I saw Dr. Mah last November for bunion and bone spurs on the top of my foot. We decided to wait until after the first of the year since I would not be able to walk on my foot for 8 weeks. January I start receiving emails from a women in the office telling me because of my trip I had planned and a trip the doctor had planned April19th is the first available. I told her that was fine. HOWEVER, on the 15th of April I received a call from the office telling me I have to set up a consultation with ANOTHER doctor in the office! What? I have been in severe pain and looking forward to having this taken care of and now I have to start over with a new doctor. Stay away from this office. There is horrible communication between the doctors and the office staff, resulting in incorrect appointment dates and misinformation. 15-20 minute hold times are common when you call the main office! The doctor was good but no aftercare notes were given so you're expected to remember every detail, including what you need to buy. You can't get through on the phone to save your life. I have waited from a minimum of 6 minutes and up to 32 minutes to get someone to answer. And yet when you go into the office, there is hardly anyone there and the receptionist is not on the phone. I've been trying to get through to get the name of the cream that was recommended but have been on hold for ... 8 minutes already. Worse than an airline! It's not worth the hassle. Dr. Mah is excellent. Customer service, by phone to billing, is terrible. Also, frequent cancellation of appointments. Had two canceled within two weeks, and the third appointment never happened because I waited 35 minutes and then had an appointment with another doctor. I had to get to. 35 minutes is too long to wait. I finally did have the appointment on October 17. But billing? What a mess. Spoke with two different people who saw the appointment I was calling about was on two different dates and, to make things worse, told me two different amounts that I owed. What the heck? So I'm giving it 2 stars: the physician I see is good. Billing and customer service is a mess. read more

I had a three-view x-ray that was taken and I was never shown the results during my visit. It's as if they were never taken. Moreover, the "doctor" did not speak to the findings of the x-rays nor offer any information that would be helpful to alleviate a painful and constant discomfort in my right foot. I mentioned a possible ingrown nail issue on my big toe and the "doctor" proceeded to trim the nail. For this, a charge of "nail debride" was $87.00. I feel liked I was ripped off. read more

Dr. Denny Le at Northwest Extremities was terrific; he gave me advice, prescribed new orthodics, etc and it all healed a persistent foot problem. The office staff was great, too. I'm giving corporate office at Northwest Extremities zip, nada, no stars. Massively dis-organized. The phone system and billing system are incomprehensible and dysfunctional. I called the number on the business card my primary care doc gave me and made an appointment. I then had to call to re-schedule, took out the business card and called the same number. I got another clinic and doctor's office entirely, and the person chewed me out for calling the wrong number. He didn't believe me that I was calling the same number as before. Some months later I get an incomprehensible bill. (I have an MBA.) I calculated myself what I should owe from my insurance benefits and called. They said I owed about what I calculated, so I paid the balance. Two weeks later I get another incomprehensible bill for $200 with a threat of a "courtesy call". So I called the local number on the bill, and was told I could only leave a message. I'm in Oregon, called a local number on the bill, and it rang in Minnesota, after hours. read more

I would 100% NOT recommend this place. I realize I didn't go in with the sexiest of issues but it was an issue for me. When I was checking in there was so many people waiting it was spilling out into the hallway/landing. The receptionist boasted they had multiple doctors there. She provided my paperwork to fill out with why I was there and normal past medical stuff. The doctor, Cara Beach, spent about 6 minutes in the room and didn't even glance at the paperwork I filed out. She spent 6 seconds trimming one nail and rushed out. It didn't really address anything I was there for. She sped walked from my room directly into another patient room then I just left. My paperwork, unseen, sitting on the chair of the room. So, then I got the bill. The insurance paid $200.51 for the hot second the doctor spent with me. The charge for the 6 second nail trim? $87. The insurance didn't cover. I wouldn't have done it if I had known that because I could have done that at home. I called on 05/07 and asked it to be escalated to see what they can do. I don't have that kind of cash laying around. The gal I talked to said this is a common complaint. (you would think they would do something about it if it was common). I didn't receive a response. I called again on 05/17 and left a message with a woman that said she was part of the answering service. I also emailed them via their portal on the website. Zero response. I called AGAIN today and talk to Liz. She said her manager would split it with me. Fine. I agreed. So, I paid $43.50 to have 1 nail trimmed. I don't even get manicures. It's fudging ridiculous and terrible that this company would price gauge like this. I would take your medical concerns elsewhere. They are just wanting money. In my experience they don't give a damn about your health. I'm honestly so distraught about this. $43.50 is a lot of money to some people. For a fudging nail trim. You ought to be ashamed. read more

It is now 11 months after I suffered a severe Lisfranc injury to my left foot. Thanks to Dr. Denny Le my foot is doing excellent. 6 months post-OP. I was able to walk on rebar in rubber boots, as I poured concrete. Dr. Le is an amazing surgeon, and he guided me ever step of the way. read more

The issue I have is with the billing department. After surgery, I visited Westside Foot and Ankle for follw-ups. Each time I asked to pay my bill. Each time they told me nothing was due. Two months later I get a call from Metro Area Collection demanding $1200. He (John) refused to tell me what the bill was for. Turns out it was from Westside Foot and Ankle. I call WestSide Foot and Ankle to pay the bill but they did not want to take my money. They said it is in collections now. Metro Area Collection refused to take my money as well. They preferred to take me to small claims court instead. Im sitting here with money that no one seems to want but now I am required to go to small claims court and pay fees and interest. I dont know what is going on with this place's billing department. I also do not know why Westside Foot and Ankle is using this low-life extortionist Metro Area Collection to recoup money. MAC appears to have so many BBB hits for nearly identical situations. Dr. Gentile was amazing for Plantar Fascia surgery. Surgery went great and pain is not really there anymore. read more

Had a referral approved through one insurance company and Northwest Extremity Specialists filed with a different one of mine on record. The two insurance companies sound the same so I made a point before leaving to mind the difference. The incorrect insurance company contacted me, basically letting me know they were confused but they approved my future appointments anyway. So I called Dr. Surratt's office and left a voicemail letting the staff know that they the wrong insurance company had been contacted. A few weeks later received a return call from Dr. Surratt's office (woman said her name but I don't remember it). She said essentially that "Hey, you're still covered, so no biggie," but I wanted to express how confusing what they did was to me and both of my insurance companies, and how important it is to get these kinds of details correct, but was told abruptly to have a good day before she hung up on me. Not the best customer service and not the attention to detail you normally expect of a healthcare provider. read more

I went to Westside Foot and Ankle Clinic after breaking my right foot and Dr. Tom Melillo was fantastic to work with. I had previously seen another podiatrist and felt that I needed a second opinion. Never having seen a podiatrist before, I never realized what a variance in the level of care there is between doctors. I am so grateful to have found Dr. Melillo because my fracture was much more complicated than I had thought. Had it been overlooked there may have been more serious consequences and lifelong problems with my foot. Dr. Melillo showed a level of concern and expertise that exceeded my expectations. All of my options and potential outcomes were revealed to me and I have a much greater understanding of my injury and treatment options. I am still early in the heeling process, but I am confident that I could not be in better hands. The staff was very warm and friendly and the office is very clean and inviting. I will always give Westside the highest recommendations to my family, friends, and colleagues. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Tom Melillo for a couple years and he did my bunion surgery (removal and some bone fusions). I also did physical therapy at the clinic across the hall. I also went to him for a chronic ingrown toenail. He is fantastic. I haven't had any complications from the surgery I had over 2 years ago and am back running again (still have 2 screws in my foot). He was very good to work with and gave me all my options. Very friendly and very professional. He put things in terms that I could understand and let me know what my outcomes would be. He gave me realistic expectations so I knew what I was getting into. With my toenail issue, he fixed it completely and I haven't had an in-grown toenail since. He's fantastic. I know I'll have to have some work done on my other foot and when that time comes, no question, I'm going back to Dr. Melillo! I always recommend him to my friends and family. read more

First of all, the Doctors are great ! But trying to pay your bill on time is a nightmare. . . The billing department has designed it to try to get you to pay the whole amount. . Online payment site only allows you to pay in full, and they know that, but do not care to fix their site . . Calling to pay, is either a long wait, or one call back ( God forbid you are not driving, or unavailable) because if you miss the call, you get to start all over. . . They make it as difficult as possible for you to pay on time, and are Johnny on the spot to charge you a late fee. . . Because of the Billing system, I will never use their services again. . . I will go into Washington State if I need to find a podiatrist. They are well aware of the problems concerning billing, but do not care about the convenience of their customers. . . If you want pressure, or the threat of late charges, go with these guys. . They will not let you down. . . read more

I truly regret my decision to use this provider. When I decided to have surgery Surratt told me it would be a simple bunion procedure. On October 12, 2016 I had the procedure and a week later started physical therapy at the Westside Foot and Ankle office. Surratt's x-rays show that the screws failed at 4 weeks but I was told at the time that there was simply a "mis-alignment" so I needed to wear the walking boot a total of 9 weeks instead of the 4 to 6 weeks I was told pre-surgically. The aggressive physical therapy continued. No change despite the fact that the boot plus therapy led to the "mis-alignment". The true nature of the problem was not revealed to me, despite weekly reporting pain to the therapist (who shares the same medical record with Surratt), until February 6, 2017. In the ensuing 3 months I lost approximately 9 mm of length from the movement of the screws in the big toe bone, and that bone has not mended together. I'm back in the boot, walking is painful, my activities are limited, and all plans are on hold. A follow-up operation with bone graft, which will entail a minimum of 6 weeks on crutches (non-weight-bearing), is the only hope I have for the possibility of recovering some functionality; even that will not restore full operation. The recovery period will be difficult. We live in a 3-story house so crutches are a requirement for mobility. I am a primary caregiver to my 2 granddaughters, 7 months and 2 years of age. That has to be discontinued during recovery since I cannot carry them when on crutches. Needless to say, I will have an MD performing the required operation. I have no idea why Surratt let things go bad for so long. My on-line medical record does not show any notes or diagnoses related to the failed fusion or resulting fracture until I was informed on February 6, 2017 although the x-rays, which I got copied, clearly show the failure starting on November 17, 2016. Other physicians have told me that a second operation, or even a non-weight bearing cast, in November could have fixed the problem without the bone loss that is causing my increasing pain (the shortened toe does not bear weight, and the remaining toes are not structured to assume the burden). In summary, I would recommend that you not assume any operation is "simple" and consider what might go wrong before deciding to proceed. Consider using an MD for any surgical procedure. Avoid Surratt and Westside Foot and Ankle for any treatment. read more

Full disclosure: I have never left a bad review for any company, ever. I called the office and requested an appointment for a consultation for lapiplasty, a particular bunion surgery. I checked in, the office was pleasant, they took X rays and then the doctor came in. He informed me he doesn't perform lapiplasty. The office is a half hour drive each way, the appointment took an hour and was a complete waste of time. I received a bill for $267 for the consultation. I called the office and told them that they had sent me to a doctor that doesn't perform the surgery I requested and would they be willing to discount the bill. Nope. I equate it to calling a mechanic and letting them know you drive a Ford. You bring it in, they spend an hour with the car and then tell you they only work on Toyota's (and here's a bill for $300). If you call the billing office, it's almost impossible to get through. I'm going to pay the bill in full but am leaving my first bad review. I think they are crooked as the day is long - kind of like my unresolved bunion. read more

I went to the office in Tansborne to have 2 ingrown toenails fixed. While everything about the office seemed fine and the staff was nice my procedure was done wrong. The didn't cut one of the toenails correctly and prescribed an antibiotic that was actually ear drops for an infection of the ear. I needed oral antibiotics for this. I ended up having both my toes infected and went to a different Dr to fix the horrible job they had done. I had to have 2 different antibiotics to clear out how bad my toes had become. This office didn't even prescribe anything for pain. We will never go to this office again and will tell everyone we know to steer clear of it also. read more

I! Love! This! Place! I chose Dr. Gentile based strictly on the bio listed on the practice website. I like where he got his education and where he did his three years of surgical residency. My husband, of course was with me, and upon entering the room to meet with us, the doctor introduced himself by his first name and not as Dr. Gentile. That's a great place to start because he's not carrying the God complex that so many doctors do. He reviewed my x-rays and talked with both of us with the utmost care and consideration that I have ever experienced since living in the state of Oregon! An issue that my husband and I commonly face is the fact that he is a rock star, therefore, he is tattooed and has long hair and so many will just instantly discredit him as a person that operates with zero intelligence, which of course is absolutely absurd! Trust me, my husband has the ability to put any doctor into the fetal position with his knowledge of pretty much anything. This man, is an exceptional human being and an outstanding doctor! When my husband and I go to visit a doctor, my husband always probes their psyche with questions that do not always relate to the appointment for which we are there. We are always interested to know if these doctors are willing to have open communication with their patients and if they are of the same mindset that we are. I have to tell you, he passed every single question and every single interaction with more than flying colors! I brought my 9 year old son in to Westside Foot and Ankle Clinic for an assessment of an ingrown big toenail that had been bothering him chronically over a period of months. The office was clean and well organized. We were brought back almost immediately by a friendly assistant who helped put my son at ease. Dr. Dehqanzada was great with my son. He did the exam and offered to complete the surgical procedure during that appointment if we chose. We elected to proceed, the assistant came in with the set up and shortly thereafter Dr. Dehganzada was back in the room explaining to my son in great detail what he would be doing before he did it, step by step. He was very thorough and went slowly to ensure my son's maximum comfort during anesthetic injection and the procedure itself. My son has recovered beautifully with almost no discomfort at all, and excellent healing. When we went in for the recheck my son was so happy that Dr. Dehganzada saw him for the followup. I have been seeing Dr. Jason Surratt for several years. His help with my difficult feet has been invaluable. A plantars wart encased in a hard callus on a great toe was the first thing he treated. I had been told by a supposedly very good dermatologist that I would need to have a portion of the toe amputated ! Dr. Surratt used a small punch and removed the wart, sent it to pathology to be sure it was just a wart, and I healed within a week. He has helped me with plantar fasciitis, a nerve problem at my heel, ingrown toenails on both great toes, callus removal, sweat gland removal and, most recently, a DVT in my left leg which caused alarming swelling. Dr. Surratt is patient, kind, professional and he listens. I am very thankful to have found him and I highly recommend him to anyone who needs a podiatrist. He has eleven convenient offices in the area and I've always been able to get an appointment when I need one. read more
