As an educator, and parent of a fencer, I can say that the value of fencing transcends the sport.

I live with chronic back pain and a year ago a friend told me to book an appointment with Aksana. Nothing else (I've tried it all) helped much so I went ahead with an initial training appointment and it changed EVERYTHING! i could barley walk normally when we first started and 3 appointments later I could move more freely and when my pain got bad it only took hours instead of days to reset. A year, and 14-15 appointments it has set the physical clock back years! Aksana has been a literal life saver for me and I am forever grateful!

One of the reasons…read morethat I was looking forward to this club was that I could work from here and then get a workout in. Unfortunately, the Wi-Fi is so spotty, down more often than not, that I can't imagine being able to do any kind of work from the club. This also makes it challenging to use any kind of app which requires Wi-Fi in order to track your progress when you're lifting. The second reason I dropped my star rating was because there are a number of machines, for example the large cable machine in the main workout area, that are missing most of their weight stickers. Unless you are familiar with the weight progression of that specific machine, you are guessing at what weight you are actually lifting. Final issue, the attachments for the cable machine over in the room which has the Astroturf are very worn. A few are missing the rings to even connect and people have tied knots into the strap in order to make it work. These may seem minor but for the price you pay for a membership plus the sign-up fee, I would expect these little things to be easily taken care of.

Very well practiced, mindful of a student's abilities and challenging too. The classes range from week to week depending on skill levels and if there is a special technique to train in. My daughter entered the school with no experience or equipment. This was not a problem. Other students, more advanced, step in to assist in training. Equipment is handy to use and rent. And items, like the special leather gloves, are for purchase. All in all this has been a foundational experience for my daughter. She is gaining confidence, skills and mastering two practices. It is a great deal! Definitely come check out the Academia, it's worth it.

The school is reasonably priced, located in a really good place accessible by public transportation. The instructors there are the nicest people you will ever want to meet. They are friendly, treat students with respect, and without the snobbery that many newcomers experience in other schools. In short, if you are looking to learn sword-fighting in the traditional form, which includes the training of the mind, body and spirit, you will find a home here.

There are some parking spots in front and also street parking, but on busy days parking can be limited. There is plenty of room to find a spot to put down a blanket or chairs. The only thing to consider is that there is bird/duck poop (it's a lake) on the ground so plan accordingly. The food options are okay and my kids love that there are slushies. There are several areas to swim in per the level/age of the swimmer. We appreciate that there are lifeguards there as well. If the kids need something to do outside of playing in the lake there is basketball, shuffle board, ping pong, and a play structure.

The beach area is covered with lots of trees from large trees, there is plenty of room to picnic (grills available), a snack bar, restrooms, playground and lake access. This beach is closed to everyone except those that live within the boundaries of a Lake Grove School District. Fortunately I have friends who live on the canal and I'm invited out often for boat rides and to anchor and swim in the swimming hole by this beach. Water is surprisingly warmer than I ever predict, but still a cool and refreshing 77 which feels awesome on a hot summer day. This summer, 2020, we enjoyed many pop-up concerts where the band performed on a barge. Missing all the concert and movies in the park, this was a welcomed way to enjoy summer while being socially distanced. My favorite day is July 4th when the town of Lake O lights fireworks over the lake. This is open to anyone, but obviously it's super crowded so if you plan on watching from the beach, get there super early! We watch from the boat, anchoring and tying up with other boats, and then enjoy the magnificent display of fireworks and their reflection on the water while sipping wine, enjoying snacks and great conversation. It's one of my favorite nights of the year! Sadly, the fireworks were cancelled in 2020, along with most everything, but I still spent several heavenly days and evenings on the lake.

After his first session, he stated how he'd learned more in those 60 minutes than he had in the last year and couldn't wait to go back. Quickly my son was able to significantly improve his pop time, velocity on his throws, approach at the plate and bat speed. During the season, he was in a slump at the plate and went to see JR for a session and he was quickly able to identify the issue and immediately improved his performance. My son was selected to play for the 16U team this summer and the positive experience has continued with Coach Cameron and the rest of the coaching staff. They've done an excellent job of building relationships, challenging the players and putting them in situations (playing in 18U tournaments) to better prepare them for opportunities at the next level. Due to the experience my oldest son has had with one on one coaching and playing for the summer team, my youngest has participated in group camps and will be playing for the 10U team this fall. Highly recommend any of their programs if you're looking for great coaching and support to help improve your child's skills and development.

From private lessons, camps, tournament teams, to their coaching philosophy, it is well organized and efficient with excellent and experienced coaches and knowledgeable instructors who have all played at the college ball level or higher. PBC fosters a positive, supportive, and collaborative culture for the kids throughout all aspects of the program, and it is evident through all the levels from 12U-18U. It is one club, and although there are different levels, I have consistently seen all the coaches and trainers interact positively with all age groups, and I have been extremely impressed with how well they all know each of the kids as a player and an individual. It is obvious how much the kids love all the coaches and trainers, and that the coaches and trainers truly care about the kids. PBC trains great players to be elite players, but that takes serious dedication and commitment from both player and club. PBC has the program and will invest their time, trainers, coaches, facility, and knowledge into each player who is willing to put in the time and effort to train consistently and seriously to reach their goals and become a better player every day.

Our 5 yr old daughter officially enrolled in their 5-12yr old class, once a week, and loves it! Backstory: We checked out this place a few weeks before our daughter turned 5. She is always very nervous and hesitant to try anything new, especially when it's something she does on her own without us in the picture. So, this was a big step for us. Within the first month of showing up, she went from watching off of the mat to sitting on the mat and eventually interacting with other kids with the help of one of the teacher's daughters. It was a long transition for our daughter, but everyone in the class are so welcoming and friendly. The teachers, including the owner, are so understanding. They never pressured her/us to join. They made the transition easier and more fun to the point where we signed up for 1 class a week and bought her a gi about 2 months later. In her words, "I like this place. I like jiu-jitsu." She is the youngest and smallest kid in this class. I'm excited to see how far she goes here! I like how Joe runs the class. They warm up, talk about the word of the month (i.e. respect), learn a new move, practice this new move with others, and practice the guard. For this specific class, they offer it 3 days a week: Tuesdays/Thursdays at 5pm and Saturdays at 9am. Parking is on the street or in the private lot. There is a sitting area for parents to watch.
