At that point, I was mostly going through the motions of physiotherapy and believed surgery was my only real option. Years of hockey and other sports had left me convinced that the damage to my knee was chronic and likely irreparable. I'll admit I was skeptical, as I hadn't benefited from physiotherapy in the past. Working with Gevorg completely changed my perspective. What sets Gevorg apart is how clearly he explains the biology of the body, how it responds to trauma, how chronic injuries develop, and most importantly, how healing actually happens. That understanding made a huge difference for me and helped me trust the process. Since starting treatment, my knee and overall leg strength have improved drastically. I've also seen significant improvement in long-standing back and wrist issues in just a few months. Most surprisingly, I've started running, something I've never done in my life and always hated. Yes, I've joined the cult. At this point, I don't anticipate needing surgery at all. I truly cannot say enough good things about working with Gevorg at Physioworks. I also like how it has a glass door (wave to open) to separate the treatment areas from the reception waiting area. This place is where you can get massage therapy and acupuncture treatments. Each room is relaxing with tranquil or spa music being played (playlist is dependent on each practitioner). There is a basket to put your clothes and phone in the acupuncture treatment room. I see Dr Koh for acupuncture and she is wonderful. Very caring and she listens to your concern. In the past, I dislike needles so she usually uses baby needles or does more cupping on me. Now I still dislike needles but can tolerate them more, so I think she uses the regular needles on me now. Besides just cupping and acupuncture, she is a TCM, so she also takes my pulse to check how my organs/body are doing. She has suggested taking supplements and medicinal tea or avoiding certain food to help with the ailments. The front desk staff is always very friendly. Paid street parking out front. The masseuse was very friendly and she worked on me for a full hour. After the massage I didn't feel my neck pain anymore. My neck pain did come back later in the evening. So here goes. I am a plus sized woman. Just a fact. Happily, it's pretty rare that I feel that my size impacts the way I'm treated. In fact, the only time in recent memory that I've felt my size impacted how I was treated by someone was with the massage I received at Qi. Now, this is not a statement against everyone that works there. In fact, I had a great massage many years ago (I even asked the team if they could help me track her down, to no response), but I couldn't tell you who it was with. This time however, I selected to have an appointment with Jorg. He specializes in joint, posture & movement issues, and with chronic problems I have stemming from a past broken leg and multiple related surgeries, he seemed like the perfect match. Only, that hope was one way, as I got the distinct impression from the moment he walked in the room that I wasn't his "ideal" client. What followed was a 50 minute massage (in a 60 minute timeslot), zero check-ins about pressure or anything at all, and about the only words he said to me felt like a complete slap in the face. At the end of our time, he told me bluntly that he specializes in *sports* massage, and that the next time I come in? I should book with someone else. Message received loud and clear, Jorg. I'm truly sorry that in your world, only the fit and slender qualify for your help.

When speaking with her I noticed she seemed a bit out of her body as though she maybe had had too much coffee or something, she was not grounded and present. We spoke for a bit then as instructed I laid face down on the table and she went to my right lower leg to move it and pulled it sideways in the opposite direction it naturally goes - I felt a warm sensation and knew in that moment something was wrong. For two months after that my right knee was in pain whenever I would walk anywhere. That was a few years ago, and I still at times upon walking too much (not often but it still happens) I feel there is a pocket of air in my right knee or very extremely subtle discomfort. I'm very grateful it's so very subtle, but it's still there when it wasn't at all before I went to see this practitioner. I didn't even go in for my legs or knees, it was for my spine. It just felt like it was sloppy service which has resulted in some sort of permanent injury. A reminder to anyone who reads this - if you notice any practitioner you meet does not seem present and in their body, cancel the appointment. Even if you're in the room. That is your right and okay to do. Not in a mean way, be kind about it but do what you feel you need to do.

While not a smart pattern, this has been happening for a few years now (thanks, Ageing!) So FINALLY I sucked it up and agreed with my bootcamp instructor that yes, I should go see a physio. I'd been resisting because doctors already just tell me to put it up and ice it until I feel better, so what could a physio POSSIBLY know that's different. Fool of a Took! Sean, in his pleasant, kind, and gentle manner, has given me exercises that are already strengthening and helping my weird knees after only one week. He is clear in his demonstrations and explains why each exercise will help, and even better he doesn't tell me to rest! He believes that exercising will only help me (as long as I'm smart about it) and this makes me exceedingly happy! Sean broke down every stereotype I had, and it's been awesome since then! Sure, my knees aren't fixed yet, but they feel way better after only a week!

I…read moreexperienced my first treatment and it was very gentle - my practitioner Kaz explained it thoroughly beforehand, did some diagnostic work, performed some deft, almost imperceptible palpations on my abdomen, then inserted a few small needles into my ankles and on my forehead. There was no pain whatsoever. It's been a couple of days and it seems I'm sleeping better. My nervous system has slowed down. I scheduled another treatment and I expect it may take a few more before the results are obvious and tangible. I'll update again if/when that happens.

I walk by this place every day, and finally decided to give it a go when my body was hating me one…read moreday. I've since seen several different RMTs here, and have been pleased with the results each time. I usually go for basic maintenance; my hips have a tendency to become misaligned, and I've been properly re-adjusted every time. Last year I strained my achilles tendon, and the RMTs at Tonume definitely helped to speed up my recovery. They were also life-savers after I had surgery on my wrist this past summer. I had to do everything with my non-dominant hand/arm, and those poor muscles were not used to all the stress. I don't know what I would have done without regular massages on my arm and back then! I've also gone just to get some quiet relaxation time in. Some of the RMTs are a bit chatty, but I find if I mention I would like to relax when I'm booking an appointment, they are a bit quieter once the massage has started. It used to be fairly easy to just walk in or call and get an appointment with very short notice. In the past few months I've found it's gotten a lot more difficult to book, so be sure to book in advance (especially towards the end of the year when everyone is trying to use up their benefits). They do have an online booking system, which is usually handy, but it did fail on me once, which made for a particularly disappointing afternoon when I showed up only to find I didn't actually have an appointment. Be sure to double check!
