So here goes. I am a plus sized woman. Just a fact. Happily, it's pretty rare that I feel that my size impacts the way I'm treated. In fact, the only time in recent memory that I've felt my size impacted how I was treated by someone was with the massage I received at Qi. Now, this is not a statement against everyone that works there. In fact, I had a great massage many years ago (I even asked the team if they could help me track her down, to no response), but I couldn't tell you who it was with. This time however, I selected to have an appointment with Jorg. He specializes in joint, posture & movement issues, and with chronic problems I have stemming from a past broken leg and multiple related surgeries, he seemed like the perfect match. Only, that hope was one way, as I got the distinct impression from the moment he walked in the room that I wasn't his "ideal" client. What followed was a 50 minute massage (in a 60 minute timeslot), zero check-ins about pressure or anything at all, and about the only words he said to me felt like a complete slap in the face. At the end of our time, he told me bluntly that he specializes in *sports* massage, and that the next time I come in? I should book with someone else. Message received loud and clear, Jorg. I'm truly sorry that in your world, only the fit and slender qualify for your help.

I found it a little unusual they has no receptionist, I walked into an empty office and waited a good 15 minutes by myself before Amy the RMT was done her current appointment. Appointments are booked back to back to mine was delayed while Amy set up the room for my appointment and checked voice mails, I wasn't very impressed by this since I was on my lunch break but I understand appointments aren't always on time. The treatment itself was relaxing and hit all the troublesome areas, she does not treat as deep as some other RMT's I have been to but I still felt great after. She offered stretches to reduce strain and tension on my neck and shoulders. I had bought an Ethical Deal voucher and I was surprised that she didn't really try to bring me on as a client. She gave me a business card but that was it, I would be more inclined to go back had she recommended I return for further treatment (which I know I need.)

So, over the winter I developed what I like to call "gammy hand", more commonly known as eczema. I was shocked when these little blisters started forming under the skin on my palm and it became dry and flaky. Feeling like somewhat of a freak I shuffled over to my local walk-in clinic. After a brief 10 minute glance-over the GP told me that this type of eczema was a "Vancouver thing" and that "loads of people get it" and wrote me a prescription for a steroid cream. "Rub this on it for 1 - 2 weeks and come back if it doesn't work". Hmpf. After 3 weeks of using it, it was mildly better, but certainly not gone. I felt a little disillusioned, especially after reading that prolonged use of steroid creams thins your skin! Yuck! Enter Harris Fisher TCMp, a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine at Klinik. I was skeptical, but millions of Chinese people with thousands of years of knowledge can't be wrong....right? Harris cares very genuinely about his patients and has a focus on treating the cause of a health issue, not just the symptoms. His bedside manner is exceptional and he is genuinely just a nice, down to earth guy. Harris sent me away with some pills to take, some herbs to be mixed with water and some instructions on foods to avoid for a 10 - 15 days period. Within 24 HOURS I saw a huge improvement in my hand. I was amazed! 4 days later it is well on the path to a full recovery. I have never thought to use Chinese medicine but now I am a believer! I would highly recommend Harris and his practice.

Interesting that they've recently started a student naturopathic medicine community clinic ($10.00 to $50.00 sliding scale). Seen Dr. Wendy Romano for prolotherapy and trigger point injection therapy ($240.00 for 60 min, $150.00-$160.00 for 30 min) and cold laser therapy ($175.00 for 45 min, $115.00-$165.00 for follow-up). Depending on the area, you may have to pay additional fees. Treatments have been okay but are very subtle. My partner has seen Dr. Robyn Land for several gua sha facials ($130.00 for 45 min). During her last visit, the practitioner was late and only treated her for 30 minutes.

I found them to be inflexible and punitive. Should I have attended the appointment sick and pass it on to the practitioner? I felt they really didn't care and just wanted my money. I will never return to this clinic and will advise all my friends and family of this very unfortunate situation. I also had to cancel my dentist appointment and they did this without issue.

I booked a 90-minute massage appointment for 9am. It happened to be snowing quite heavily on the…read moremorning of and I took extra time off work to make it there on time. I saw that there was a sign on the door saying their reception doesn't start until 9am, their sign was inside and there was no one at reception. No one answered or came out when I rang the buzzer so I left. I assumed they had closed because of the snow. The appointment reminder email I received had no information about reception starting at 9am. The email did said don't show up more than 5 minutes before your appointment but then someone should open the door. I couldn't go back because I had gotten a ride there and didn't have time to wait around for someone to maybe open the door because the person dropping me off had somewhere to be. I called within 10 minutes and got charged a no-show fee even though I was there, just no one opened the door. I'm not waiting around in the snow for a business that should be open to open the door for me when they look closed and empty, especially if I had booked an appointment well in advance. The receptionist said, "It's JUST $30 plus GST." That's still money and your staff may have lost money but so did I - I had to take extra time off work and waste time commuting. Perhaps consider staffing the office appropriately at appointment times instead of making clients pay the price of your ineptitude. Take responsibility for your mistakes and poor planning.
