It looks like a little White House with black trim. It looks more like an artist studio than a craft store. If you are there for the supplies you will hardly notice. Tradewinds does framing and they have traditional art supplies (no glue guns or glitter). Framing- a lot of artists go here to frame shows. From what I have seen, the work is perfect and the prices are very good. Art supplies--go here for Windsor & Newton watercolors!! Even the Series 4 (the most expensive) paints were REALLY reasonably priced! They also have sheets of watercolor and printmaking paper, well priced sketchbooks, paintbrushes. I found a rather exotic specialty watercolor brush that I didn't even know existed...and I've consumed a lot of art supplies. John/Jon is the guy that has generally been there and helped me. If you talk to him you will find him kind and funny. I wish more artists knew about this place and supported it. It's a gem.

We got very good advice on what to use for materials and matting and while the price was not for the faint of heart, the quality is very high and I know it will last. I would have wished for a little more proactive communication in terms of completion (I had to call a few times for updates) but I'm very happy with the work they did. When I returned with the pieces, he quoted me three times what he had originally, claiming the parts would damage his machine (not true). Over the years, the etching was coming loose from the matting, it was slightly wrinkled and the frame became worn. I wanted to have it rematted and possibly get a new frame.The owner of South Shore Gallery talked to my husband and me for probably half an hour, seeming excited about working on the piece, looking it over and also suggesting things she thought we could do. She told us she'd have it completed in about 10 days and she would call us. We left confident that we had come to the right place. We paid half down, as requested. To make a long and frustrating story short, after about two weeks, I called to inquire about it and it was not done; she said she'd hurry and get it done. When it was ready, I was shocked that she could call it ready -- the color of the mat was nothing like our original choice. Worse, the mat partially covered the artist's signature and the name of the piece. And, you can see it is not flat in the frame; it has ripples. Further, a label that originally was on the back, which she said she would save for us, was not there. Just wanted to warn others to be careful if you have items that are valuable to you.
