I don't typically rate businesses other than breweries and restaurants, but it seems like Norwin Veterinary Hospital needs a little love. This is our second labradoodle and we've been happy with this vet for over a decade. They saved the life of our first one by taking an extra precaution to send her to a pet surgical hospital in Pittsburgh. They wanted to be sure their diagnosis was correct, and the higher technology available at the other place showed a different problem. Their ability to recognize their own limitations rather than sending us home with meds that wouldn't have worked paid off. When our second labradoodle starting losing her hair despite the normal tests coming back negative, they took several days to research possible causes. Dr. Bendix consulted a dog dermatologist friend from Texas who recommended low dose melatonin. Yeah, the human sleep aid stimulates hair regrowth. Who knew? But the point was that they didn't give up, they took the extra time and used their connections to come up with the right answer. The other reviews talk about Norwin being expensive, and I haven't honestly run any kind of cost comparison. So maybe they are too pricey, maybe they're not. I don't know about that, but I do know that we've been very pleased with the care our pets have received here. read more

Had an appointment for my cat. Got there and called to check in. She says it'll be about 30 minutes wait. I said ok, but mentioned that my cat was very stressed by being in a car. After an hour I called again and asked why I was still waiting and AGAIN told her my cat was very stressed. Again she told me "Oh, I'm sorry. It'll only be another 15 or 20 minutes." If you're running behind schedule and are aware you've got scheduled appointments, maybe aa heads up call or text would be in order. I've been taking my cats here for at least 10 years. They've saved several of them from dying and kept the others alive and healthy. They're very honest and let me know if there's more than one treatment for my pets in case I can't afford a treatment. They spend time with your pet and don't treat you like a number or ATM machine. You can be honest with them also. I've told them I want my cats helped but I don't want to go broke doing it. One of my cats has a heart murmer and one of the vets recommended about 6-7 tests that could be done. It would have cost about $1000 which I didn't have so I asked which tests were the most important to determine what immediate treatment would help my cat. They discussed it with me and we settled on 4 tests which cost about $400. My cat is on meds to help with his heart and is doing well. I'd never consider moving to another veterinarian. They care and love animals. It shows. read more

Price point is on the higher end. I started using them in 2016 and just stuck with them for convenience. I just recently moved out of the area so I no longer use this vet but I would recommend shopping around for your ideal price point. read more

Janice davis saw my pet took it there for one problem its ears .She told me nothing about its ears wanted me to leave it there so she could nueter it and run 398.00 worth of tests ,that i already had done 1 year ago,charged me 48.00 for visit and never came back in the room to cosult.then technician brings him back out covered in cat shit,sends him with me like that.left there took to another vet cleaned ears treated for mites cost 36.00 cat is excellent know.People be aware of this place not a good place for pets read more

Wow do I feel like a fool! I've used Norwin Veterinary Hospital since moving here over 10 years ago. I find out now that they have been charging more than double the typical retail prices on medications and vaccines! The push on meds has gotten worse over the last couple of years but on this visit I had taken my cat in along with a fecal sample because of signs of parasites. Before the test result is even back the Vet recommends that I buy the Metronidazole , Panacur, Profender de-wormer, a pro biotic, a B-12 shot, diarrhea preventative and a new advanced product from Frontline. Additionally the cat is due for the Rabies and Leukemia booster ($124.50 additional for that visit) and that will have to be done in a two week follow up visit. I squirm and pick and choose because I can't afford all of this as it is. Out of this entire list, I left with Panacur and Profender for this cat and the other one at home and the bill is $204. I check prices with another vet and online and I discover the typical retail price for these items is less than half of what they have charged me. For instance, they charge $21 for a 3 pack of 2g Panacur, online it's @12.50, the new Vet charges $10.00. I check with my new vet and am told the annual Rabies vaccine that I've been paying $47.50 for is $20. The bottom line is that I could afford anti-diarrheal medicine and the full course of antibiotics if I were not being overcharged. The cats have been undertreated because of these mark-ups. This has happened before and they have looked me straight in the eye all of this time seeing that I can't afford everything recommended because of what they have marked it up to. I know for a fact that manufacturers provide a list of suggested retail prices as a guideline to Vets. This Vet's response is that this is a free market enterprise and he has overhead to pay for....electricity, building space, specialty equipment like Sonograms and hospital accreditations to conform to. My reply is that in a free market enterprise, I would be given a prescription and an opportunity to purchase the medications at a place of my choosing. The direct result of his concept of 'free market enterprise' is that my cat goes under treated in order to pay for his credentials or someone else's sonogram. My hope is that they can find a way to help animals and stay in business, but I'm going elsewhere. read more
