    So many fun toys!

My favorite dog park on the North Side! All sizes of dogs and very friendly. Owners have always been very kind and the regulars will remember your dogs name. The park is a good size, gravel and concrete with trees. There is running water in the summer and benches. The entrance is just past the kids playground

Although I've never been to the original site, I can't compare the two. But compared to the Portage Park Dog Friendly Area, there isn't any. Norwood Park is twice the size of Portage Park DFA with room to expand. My dog Bruno actually has room to run! The Norwood Park Dog Association does a very good job of maintaining the area. Plenty of poop bags available. My only complaint is the use of gravel instead of sand.

    Great pack of huskies :)

My husky enjoyed this dog park. We came here today around 3pm and the ground was still covered in snow. It is a little difficult to find if everything is covered in snow and it's your first time in the area. It is behind the school. The best way to access the entrance is to walk from N Avondale Ave. There are three trash cans in front of it. There were plenty of poop bags, well organized too. I think the fountain water was frozen or too cold for the dogs to drink, so there were a ton of gallon water jugs/cartons to pour into the bowl set up likely by the community. It's a little loud when the train whizzes by, but still bearable. The park could have been bigger considering the giant baseball fields and school yards close by. I'm still wondering why they made it so small, especially in a neighborhood with lots of dog owners. Overall, this is great dog park less than 10 minutes from O'Hare.

You also have to scan your card when you enter in the park so you pretty see the same folks. I love the fact that they have a smaller area for the smaller guys only and people who have small dogs take this very seriously. It's nice to have an area dedicated to the small pooches without fearing a big pup attack. They also have grass which is huge and saves pup's paw pads! Areas of improvement is that they need to clean the park more frequent than they do. There is often poop in the park that of course should be owner responsibility to clean it but the park should do its job to clean the park daily. They should also actively replenish poop bags. All in all, I'm pretty happy my dog has his social club to meet up with his friends for pup hour.

Jefferson Memorial Park, once called simply Jefferson…read morePark, had "Memorial" added because it is named for Thomas Jefferson and to keep it from being confused with another park of the same name. It has multiple baseball fields and other sports spaces and it also has a natatorium. There are a lot of activities that take place at this park year-round, some of which take place in the quite large field house. What's especially cool about this park is that it has its own orchestra! No, really. The Chicago Citywide Symphony Orchestra is an all-volunteer, community orchestra that rehearses and plays here. The orchestra has been in existence for 75 years as of 2022, and I'm really hoping to take in a performance sometime soon. Because Jefferson Park has a lot of things happening, I'm going to try to keep up with the happenings here. It's not so far away that it would be a pain to get to, there's parking nearby the park (paid and maybe unpaid?), and green space is always appreciated!

The room itself seems super old and the fixtures and ceilings remind me of another century. There is a stage and an adjoining room for smaller meetings. I seriously cannot believe this is Chicago Park District!

As Rafi said, it's a "nice stretch of pristine beach" - absolutely lovely, perfectly well maintained. It's buttressed by two rock "piers" which keeps it somewhat contained, water wise, and there's a gate to enter. The dog portion of the beach is essentially a peninsula so they can't escape on any side, although there is a break in the fence down by the water, so they can get around that (I've seen it happen a few times). You can throw a Chuck It as far as possible - either land side or into the water, you've got plenty of room. A teenager WILL check your dog's ID Memorial through Labor Day, so you'll need that tag. I think it's currently $33 for Wilmette residents and $160 for non residents. Check the schedule online - they're closed on Labor and Memorial day for dogs and also during the day certain hours because it's used for summer camps. People are mostly nice, although the ones that refuse to let their dogs off their leash cause a kerfuffle. Very rarely, there's an aggressive dog, but offhand maybe I've seen 2 in 7 years. (I'm pretty tolerant though). My dog specifically just wants to play fetch and more fetch and more fetch into the water, but there's usually someone else around who wants to play catch me if you can or steal my toy and let me chase you or wrestle until we knock the humans over. As a bonus, the Baha'i temple and the yacht club are just behind the beach, so the view is spectacular! If you're not a Wilmette resident, you'll have to park slightly more far away, but it's not that bad at all, and the walk is good for ya. Highly recommended and I don't know what I'd do without it!
