Nothing special but pretty inside! They used to have a little spot to sit inside which I wish they still had. If you want to chill around there's no where to sit other than on the uncomfortable window ledge Lots of goodies to choose from! I got a cheese danish which was tasty and soft even though it was the end of the day. I got a tart and a birthday cake from a friend. I've never physically been to the bakery so I can't give a full review on how it's like there. But from what I've tasted and the looks of it, it wasn't bad at all. Their fruits are really fresh and all the berries were huge. The decor on the tart was really detailed, but the looks of the cake was a bit bland. The tart was a chocolate shell which tasted great, however the raspberry/mixed berries (not exactly sure what it was) tasted a bit unexpected. It was definitely a kind of tart that I've never tasted before with such filling. As for the cake, it looked huge and heavy, but it wasn't too sweet. Overall, they don't 'wow' me and they taste like cakes I've tried at other places too. read more

Walked in excited! Gave the girl behind the register a " HI it's my first time here " She gave me a dirty look after looking me up and down and walked away ...ok well ignored it looked at all the yummy treats I could try trying to decide what to get ...the girl walks up to me gives me a dirty look again and a hmmpph as to say "you ready to order yet?" I said "sorry you have soo many yummy looking things" she rolled her eyes at me and gave me a "no!" And walked away ...at that point I was like you know what screw it I was polite smiley excited and she was soo rude ! I walked out without buying anything and went to the Nova bakery on king witch was amazing by the way the staff was super nice and helpful ! 10/10 would never go to nougat again read more

We actually ate at the Waterloo location, in the Uptown Square. We've bee back a few times, and most recently purchased the Creme Brûlée Cheesecake...Oh my god! Absolutely the best cheesecake I've ever eaten. We've had a few other treats, all delicious. We've also stopped by for coffee, which was above average. Perhaps if they added an opportunity to offer specialty coffees, that would add to the high end treat that they offer. They also have a variety of breads, but we have not yet sampled them. Outrageous prices.... better to go to Denningers in Hamilton or Starsky in Oakville... HOWEVER in the KW area, we do not have much selection, a hidden bakery gem to try is: Crema Bakery, Kitchener off Fishcher Hallman road, wow, they make everything too and are very fresh... I love this hidden gem! If you have a special occasion this may be the place to go for a cake or baked good, or for a date, but they are do not display prices on all items, ( do not like that) it is extrememly small, poor parking, and really very small selection. Vencenzios has much more selection and is expensive too, but not outrageous.. I paid over 7 dollars for a piece of cheese cake??!! I dont I should be paying that anywhere in Kitchener... do you? The deli selection at Nougat did not look the best, no selection and lacking... Euro grocery on Highland, needs big improvements, and bakery stuff not always fresh... their meats are much better there for deli and pork selection of fresh meat. Italio foods, has nice bakery selection, and should be on a must visit list... ( located close to deeer ridge) Try CREMA BAKERY, they are the best in the area. read more

I had such a hard time after moving back to Kitchener; I couldn't find a delicatessen. I looked for my old one, Fiedlers and found it was closed. I was ecstatic to find this wonderful deli. Very tastefully decorated and it being Christmas I felt like I was home lol. The service was great. read more

Tasty food and lovely staff. Lots of good options for lunch and breakfast, as well as European speciality imported goods such as chocolates and biscuits. Great place to hang out and have a bite to eat, the paninis are amazing and you will find they are good portions, yet here will never be enough to make you want to stop stuffing your face with them. Great decor and cozy spot, will be moving to a bigger location so looking forward to cozy autumn afternoons with a book and a biscotti. read more

After years of frequenting this establishment and being part of groups where Nougat's catered food was served, we recommended the café to our family group, which included out of town family members. We were astonished to learn that our group of 13 was rudely refused service. Our son had gone ahead of the group to ensure there was space for all of us, and, with the voluntary help of a friendly employee of the establishment, pulled tables together in preparation for the family. Then another woman came from the back pulled tables apart and in a very rude manner told him that large groups were not accepted without reservations. When he said, I guess we will have to go somewhere else, maintaining her rudeness she said, "Good". Having recommended this establishment, I was dumbfounded and decided to speak with the owner about this rude employee. I approached a woman to first say how unhappy I was about the treatment, and learned from her that the rude person had been the owner. My only recommendation now is to avoid Nougat. The Waterloo Region has an abundance of outstanding eating establishments with owners who value and respect their customers. read more

Nougat has moved to the corner of Stirling and Courtland. I love the new place. Gone are the stairs, stairs, stairs. In, out, washroom. All of the counterspace is bright and light and it requires only one person to keep an eye on things during slow times. Only tasted the tea and pastries. One kind there and one kind brought home. They were exquisite, incredibly delicious. Actually, I didn't have the kind I brought home. I had a corner of each of the two and I mean just a little corner. When I went to get another corner, I was out of luck. My husband had eaten the whole thing. And each pastry is quite large. Or was. I noted the chalkboard menu. It included one choice of soup, a sandwich on your choice of bread and fillings or a half sandwich, or a small or large green salad. It seems that the number of main course options have been reduced. I didn't ask. I do think there needs to be at least one other person during most hours as there is a lot to do with sandwiches, pastries and other things to buy. I missed getting the tiny shortbread and did not get any option of milk for my tea. The tea was delicious as is, but I do like milk. I will return many, many times. read more

Can I just say Nougat is ahhhhmazing!!! From the service to the incredible assortment of decadent goodies!! This place seems to have everything a girl or boy could possibly want to gorge on!! I don't live in the area but heard great things about the place so took a hop, skip, and a jump over and was definitely not disappointed! Their pastries and breads make me feel like I am lounging in some Eastern European cafe watching people go by as I sip on coffee and stuff my face with delights!! This is a hidden gem in the middle of downtown Kitchener offering a full range of delicious desserts. After Cafe Mozart closed, this is the only place that offers European style cakes that even come close to what Mozart used to offer. They also offer specialy foods, refrigerated and frozen, but also a section for canned/jarred imported foods and a small deli that includes specialty cheeses. To top it all, they have a very small eatery offering soups and sandwiches and teas/coffees. It's a nice place to stop in to buy some bread and desserts but also to sit down and have an afternoon tea and crumpet. My favourites are the almond ring, brownies, and various tarts. read more

I purchased 4 slices of different cakes for dessert with friends. I got red Velvet , carrot , raspberry chocolate and black forest. Everyone enjoyed their cake and mine was delicious but there were a couple of stale spots in the red Velvet cake, which disappointed me a little. When you pay 3.78 a slice you hope the quality is a little better. The store is nice (queen st. location) and the building unique. Wait staff were cheery and helpful. All in all I would go back, I would like to try some more of their desserts and the offerings they have at their cafe. read more

We love this bakery! It is chock full of specialty deli items and homemade treats. We have tried many items from their bakery counter, the butter tarts, mousse squares and our favourite, the cannoli's, are delicious. Downside is that they only make them and sell the remainders when they have a large batch ordered. The atmosphere is cozy and the in-store café is a relaxing, relatively quiet space. We've made it a habit to stop there on our way to the park for picnics. read more

My fellow and I stopped in to the Uptown Waterloo location on this gorgeous Sunday, wanting a frilly pastry thing to round out the day. Little did we know that we were about to receive some of the worst service I have ever received in my life. I'll grant that the young guy behind the counter might have been having a bad day, but his attitude was... shitty. When I pointed to an unlabeled pastry that looked very much like tiramisu and asked for it, he very abruptly told me, "That's not tiramisu". Even more abruptly, he said, "It's a Napoleon", with a tone of 'what an idiot' to round out his rudeness. First of all, it doesn't look like any Napoleon I've ever eaten and secondly, people who talk in his tone to customers clearly don't want jobs. It didn't end there. He messed up our very, very, very simple order of three pastries (all on the same shelf, no less), to go, TWICE. He also tried to jam the third pastry in and nearly killed it in the process. He was rude, careless and, frankly, a poor choice of hire for any service position. The pastries were also quite stale; not anything like the Nougat I remember. I couldn't even finish my caramel eclair. Seriously. I couldn't finish my caramel eclair! How often has anyone ever said that? I will never go back and I will happily warn others against going in. You'd be better off with a pack of grocery store danishes. p.s. Just tried to eat the key lime square; waxy, far past it's prime and disappointing to say the least. My dear fellow wouldn't even touch it because of the smell. It ended up in the trash, next to three quarters of my caramel eclair and the remaining, incredibly floppy wafers from his Napoleon. To go from what the old Nougat was to this, well, it's really a kick in the teeth. read more

Very rude owner refused us when we tried to get a table of 13 people for a casual lunch today. The place was very empty. The staff helped us putting tables together already and the owner came and separated the tables said we needed to call if we have so many people. When we said I guess we have to go some where else, she said 'Good'! We certainly don't want to give business to people who don't know how treat their customers with respect! read more

This is a review for the Nougat Bakery at Sterling Avenue, Kitchener. The bakery has a wonderful Parisian atmosphere. We saw shelves full of European chocolates and sweets. The way the shop was designed and layout, it makes you forget, for a moment, you are in Ontario. read more

This European Pastry/Deli used to be fantastic with fresh products, and high quality pastries. Since being under new ownership, everything has become substandard. The deli is overpriced and seems like a clearance meat shop, and the pastries taste cheap with no quality. Have had several disappointing purchases previously, however, giving one last effort, recently purchased a full cake for a birthday. Cake looked nice, however, after everyone had a slice, we were less than impressed. Nothing about the cake even compared to what has been purchased under the previous owner. The cream tasted like it came from a can, and the cake layers themselves were dry and solid. Needless to say, over 3/4 of a 30 dollar cake met the trash bin. For anyone experiencing this place for the first time, please don't judge European pastries against what will be received at Nougat. As a closing statement, the 4 and 5 star ratings shown for the years 2015, 2014, and prior are in fact correct, as this used to be an excellent establishment for deli and pastries, however, you may want to reconsider this choice in 2016. read more
