There's nothing to dislike about La Rose! We always stop here when we're in Milton. Old-school Italian market carrying imported Italian comestibles, excellent bakery, deli - and a trailer load of fine imported candies, chocolate, cookies and savories. They have good fruit and vegetables too. We stop here for two things in particular - their Ontario-renowned-famous focaccia and their in-house made sausages (fresh). It takes a lot of self-control not to go loco here and bust the budget. Staff working here are (VERY) polite, friendly and helpful! read more

We have been patrons of rose for almost 30 years. I love everything about coffee in there and the food is delicious. They really good. Use a change in their food. Take out packaging. It is a little messy to unwrap when you get home but aside from that, it is delicious and worth it. Customer service is spot on read more

We've stopped by a few times recently as our daughter's pediatrician is nearby. Tried a handful of items from the hot table and all were delish. Our faves so far are the butternut squash stuffed pasta, meatballs, and calzone. Lots of yummy looking options to try. There's also an awesome sweets counter with cannoli (very good) and tons of other pastries. Some of the folks working are friendlier than others but overall usually is a good customer service experience. This is an amazing bakery. Of all the dessert items I have tried, there is yet to be one that hasn't been fantastic. Even when they are busy the staff is always polite, friendly and so helpful. I was craving a veal cutlet on a bun so I went into La Rose Italian Bakery. I got there at 2pm and they told me it was too late to get that but they've got several cutlets with mushrooms and peepers. So I purchased one of those and are it without the bun. I deducted 1 star because the employees working at the deli/bakery counter (where I bought the veal cutlet) were not very helpful (one of them ignored me) and I had to ask several employees before someone would help me. I don't get the hype with this bakery. Yes it has a huge selection.. but I felt everything was soo overpriced. I would only come here for the bread as there doesn't seem to be many other bakeries around. Deli counter - I could find the same quality/price at Metro. I do wish they had different cheeses as the only options were presliced and very expensive. I know it's COVID, so the bread & buns were prepackaged, but I wish I could get them in smaller quantities. Staff also didn't seem too thrilled to be working.. the staff at the deli counter seemed bothered by having to take my order. The cashier was friendly though. read more

This bakery is much loved by the Italians in my life. However, after visiting a few times after moving to Milton, I'm not sure it's worth the hype for us personally. Everyone is very friendly but almost everything seems overpriced. We've had the hot food items, as well as dessert and have browsed the grocery section. I would have to say the purchase I was most satisfied with here were a couple of planters we bought in the summer - beautiful flowers and lasted all summer. The lady at the garden section also instructed us on how to take care of them, and trim them. Will come back in the summer for more pretty flowers read more

What could be more enticing than a 6-foot-tall rack filled with Portuguese Egg Tarts.... TWO racks filled with Portuguese Egg Tarts. Yes, my peeps... TWO racks. I primarily come to La Rose for those trays filled with sweet, smooth gelatinous custard in light flaky puff pastry cups. Suh-weet! For me, the vanilla flavor and carmelized tops liken these tarts to creme brulee--not eggy at all. Even though you don't get the satisfaction of breaking through that solid caramel layer, this is a treat you can eat with your hands. Never overburnt. Always delicious. I know that I can never have just one. You can fill your own boxes to go. With 6 to a case, I'm a happy camper. I usually can't get them right out of the kitchen, so I reheat them when I get home. A couple of seconds in a microwave and we are good to go. La Rose Bakery does more than portuguese egg tarts, of course. They have a great meat and cheese section. If you're lucky, you might even come in when they have free samples. They also have hot and cold food ready to eat or for take-out, snacks and Italian desserts, your usual fruits and veggies, and tons of other European items. There's even a garden section for you greenthumbs. La Rose Italian Bakery is such a great establishment here in Milton. If I lived in this neighbourhood, you would have to roll me out the door. They have a super selection of a little bit of everything - deli meats, cheeses, dairy, breads, baked goodies, Italian drinks, fresh fruit. Doesn't that sound like a recipe for a feast? Everything is fresh and baked in house. We got some deli meat, some fresh pasta, some olive calabrese bread, some olives from the antipasto bar, and a delicious cannoli for dessert. All good! Sadly, we missed the hot table, and we didn't come on a day they were serving Portuguese egg tarts. Oh well, guess I have to go back tomorrow! read more

I think I was Italian in a previous life. Only because I have family in the area and through their recommendations did I find this place. I have never seen such a wide selection of oils in my life. La Rose is a great Milton store. It's one of the few places that I wake up early and rush out to so I can get some of the fresh Portuguese rolls, and other fresh breads on the morning. They cater to various European speciality foods, so if I have a hard time finding a certain item, I can often find it at La Rose. read more

A friend recommended the tiramisu at this bakery and I'm glad he did! I was able to buy a cake immediately, no wait, and they decorated it beautifully, with delicate chocolate butterflies and a fancy ribbon with chocolate writing. All my guests enjoyed it, as did I. They have a beautiful catalogue of wedding cakes and a great selection of larger cakes for parties. The local Milton paper advertises the specials, which are always worth the trip. At times, the produce is much cheaper than your regular grocery store and the quality of the produce is always better than average. They don't seem to stock up though, so don't expect all sale items to be available all the time. If you're looking for something different, they have a great selection of deli meats and cheeses. The bakery also offers unique products such as loaves of bread infused with eggplant or red peppers. The regular kaisers are a great price and the freshness will last a few days, if stored properly. Unfortunately, La Rose is not located downtown Milton. Nor is it located near anything else useful, but it's worth the trip. read more

All I can say is yum!! I could spend a fortune in this place. Between the fresh produce, deli counter, cheeses, baked goods, imported product and hot counter!!! This trip I bought some zepolle as it is the season, some hot pasta, buns, salami, cheese & donuts. Everything was perfect. I am never disappointed when I shop here. Everyone is friendly. It smells like heaven in there. There is even cafe seating for those who want to stop for some food. Love. Love love this place!! read more

Like one of the other reviewer mentioned, we also don't understand the hype with this bakery. The aisles are so congested and the employees seem as if they're not at all happy with their job. Not even a single employee smiled or greeted from bakery counter to cashier. We went there to get a custom cake for our son's birthday and the unfriendly lady supposed to help us simply didn't wanted to talk and asked us to only email the design specifications. 2 stars for the pastries that we got from there. As a small business owner, they should ensure they're providing atleast good and friendly customer service. read more

I used to love this place but lately it has been dissapointing. First, coming home with a half cooked cheese cake....my mother thought it was custard filling...wrong just uncooked batter in the center. I had to drive back to the bakery wait for 10 min while the bakers took the cake to the back to inspect. No refund just a credit for the value of the cake($30) ....really!!! How about another ten for ruining desert and my time. Secondly, I decide to have their squash ravioli....the pasta and sauce is great.....mmmmmm tasty...wait...where is the squash filling?... I opened the ravioli to find 1/2 teaspoon of filling....tasted great and the flouvours really come out once you remove the pasta portion. I was curious and Googled some squash ravioli recipe....found most use a table spoon of filling....maybe La Rose is using the wrong measurements. ..I'll come by later with some table spoons your cooks. read more

Mmmm... the bread and buns are always sooo fresh here. I could buy one of each and immediately consume all. Of course, they also have a large variety of things to fill that bread or buns to make amazing sandwiches. Once you're done all that, time to pick a dessert. Good luck! There is so much to choose from, that you'll likely be sanding there salivating unable to choose for hours! Have you ever heard the saying, when in doubt, the customer is always right!! Well La Rose Bakery in Milton, clearly never has!! I ordered a German Chocolate Cake from this bakery. I went to pick it up and they showed me the cake, it was a plain chocolate cake. I said that was not what I ordered, so the clerk went to get the "pastry chef" she told me it was German chocolate buttercream. I said I had never heard of German chocoate buttercream and was very specific when I ordered it I wanted the icing with the nuts and coconut. She did offer to put nuts and coconut, but told me they could not render down condensed milk in that period of time, so clearly she knew exactly what a real German Chocolate Cake was. I ended up taking the cake it looked fine, she put nuts and coconut and some Carmel drizzled on it. When I asked my guests how the cake was I was told it was dry and not that great. I tried the cake and it was thin layers of cake with lots of greasy icing and very little cake. The cake part was dense and dry. I was very unhappy and called to ask for the owner. He was completely abrupt and rude and treated me as if I had a problem. He had the nerve to ask me when I ordered the cake, I told him yesterday, and he said they usually need two days to take an order. I was completely thrown off guard and responded, well then why was the order accepted, are you trying to say its my fault that your staff took the order and it wasn't clear, or I didn't order it at the right time. As well he said he couldn't find my order and asked if I was sure I was calling the right bakery!! He also said to me there are hundreds of kinds of German chocolate recipes...I said well if you google image this cake 99% of the pictures are what I had wanted and described. He said that they didn't have a computer. He said he wasn't sure what I would like him to do, I said an apology would be a start and perhaps my money back. He got his "pastry chef" to call me, she told me I wasn't happy from the time I came to pick up the cake. I was not but it appeared to look good when she gave it to me. I would have been fine if the cake was fresh and not dry, but that made matters worse and was what prompted me to call. The result was after at least 20 minutes of discussion, was she as prepared to give me a $15 store credit, but I had to bring the cake in so they could see it and try to figure out what was wrong!! Really?? You have a dissatisfied customer and you want me to drive 1/2 hour there and back to bring you the cake I paid for for you to give me a $15 store credit!!! What a joke!! Although you may have a busy bakery, rest assured, I won't be back there!! read more

Our family has been shopping at La Rose for many years, we have seen a discouraging drop in good customer service etiquette and less friendly staff, most seem unhappy to be working there. We had an occasion recently to return some cheese that was too salty to eat. Our concern was addressed by Sal who offered to " meet us half way and we can keep the cheese" ?!?!
