Nothing worth remembering here. I asked for no onions, less oil, more spice. My noodle came out with a shitload of oil, shitload of onions both white and green, and it was not spicy at all. When i asked the serve what happened to less oil and no onions and make it more spicy. He began screaming to the kitchen in chinese and attempted to take my dish away. I was afraid he might tamper with my food after i complained tht they did everything TOTALLY OPPOSITE, of what i just asked for. I dont trust their ass taking my dish back in and giving me a new one that may include some extra ingredients... if you know what i mean. The sweet and sour soup was super sour. It was very "bamboo" ish.. not my style and i didnt want to take a second taste. The egg drop was ok. The wonton soup was ok. Long story short, i had to go #3 like 3 times afterwards. Thanks to the extra oil i didnt ask for.

Before I begin, I have to admit that I've been a regular at Nouilles Star for, what, almost ten years now? Like an ancient Chinese secret passed down from generation to generation, it was my ex who showed me this place first a decade ago, and I have since then passed on the torch and introduced some of my friends to it. Before 2013, the restaurant used to be named Soupe et Nouilles but it was re-branded Nouilles Star, around the same time it started charging taxes and they redid their interior design, taking down posters on their walls that dated back to a pre-2000 era. The place looks like nothing much, just another low-key Chinese restaurant. The service is ultra-fast and the food you order will unmistakably land in front of you in a delay of 5-10 minutes maximum. Sometimes less. The waiters are generally not very expressive, so do not expect a five-star hotel service on that front; they are practical and quick however, and the food is very cheap, so it works in their favor. Now, in regards to the food... I can vouch for the General Tao (Chicken or Tofu if you are vegetarian) and the fried rice section of their menu. They are, in my opinion, freaking delicious. My taste buds make a jig every time I eat there, and I leave feeling strangely fulfilled after every visit. Whatever else you order, it's at your own risk. You've been warned, Yelpers! Nouilles Star is undeniably one of my favorite hidden gems in the city, but it's not for everyone. If you seek fancy food, stay the hell away. If you seek filling Chinese food that tastes good, go get yourself a General Tao. You're welcome. P.S. This restaurant is cash-only. There is an ATM at the front door with a fee of $1.85 per transaction.

I have been eating here for close to 15 years without incident and have always enjoyed the food preparations which are well above average. Their soups are more than satisfying and ever so delicious. I like that they are willing to put many Chinese vegetables on the menu, like Gai Lan, Dou Miao and Foo Gua which are hard to find in Chinese restaurants in the States located outside of a traditional Chinatown. The dumplings with peanut sauce is a unique dish quite different from other similar preparations I have had, that alone is reason enough to go and give this restaurant a try. I don't understand the star ratings sometimes, particularly when I have dined in a place for years and have been more than satisfied, it leaves me puzzled. I will let you be the judge when you find yourself in Montreal craving Asian food, I hope this place comes to mind, it does to me!

Looking for comfort food. This one is mine. Usually, I would take out. Once an while, we will sit there. Don't expect the comfortable chairs and tables. Tap water taste bad, I end up with a soda. It seems all negative, but we turn the corner. Order your food, and it get to your table by super fast service. Each dish is so good that you would want to lick your plates... don't do it. . If you don't want sit, take it home, food still taste great. Prices are very very reasonable.

Overall, bad experience. Quick service but food wasn't very good * The Pad Thai had more noodles than shrimp. No veggies at all. Lack of effort from the chef. Seasoning was definitely store bought. * Peanut butter chicken was watery and bland. Chicken alone was not stir fried with seasoning before being drenched in the peanut sauce. Not impressed at all. Super diluted, bleh! * This was from the lunch menu. 7.99+tax meals * 3/10

Great place for some great yet affordable asian food. Service is good, too. Besides general tao and pad thai, the peanut butter dumplings are a must try!!

I frequently go to this restaurant for a late night snack/meal as I live nearby, and they are open late on weekdays and weekends. Overall, service is always very fast, and generally quite friendly - though not too personal- which is nice when you're expecting a fast, warm meal. Eating area is clean and tables are bussed quickly. There is a sit down side as well as a takeout side to the restaurant - which gets really busy in the evenings. The menu is slightly overwhelming because it is too long and has too many options. I tend to stick to what I like and not get too adventurous. They serve very typical western style Chinese food. My favourite on the menu is the Ma Po Tofu, and garlic broccoli. Cash only, but ATM in the front.

My family made reservations for noon on a Saturday and thankfully so, because the line was out the door upon arrival. We ordered a pho dac biet (#15) and bun bo hue dac biet (#24) . Come hungry, because their large bowls are massive! Their pho was so nourishing and comforting on a rainy day. Each bowl loaded with a hefty serving of meat, tendon and tripe. The herbs were incredibly fresh and even came with culantro! But the star of this meal had to be the bun bo hue; I haven't had such an amazing bun bo hue from a restaurant in a long time. The broth was beefy and loaded with tender pieces of meat, but also finally had enough of the lemongrass essence I crave for in bbh. It packed just the right amount of heat without it being overpowering or mouth-numbing. I practically licked the bowl clean at the end of the meal. My family was ecstatic to have found another spot that hits close to home for them. Flavors are impeccable and portion sizes are very generous. We already decided that we will be regulars. You'll catch us here very often!

The selection of menu was incredibly special. The offering is Northern Vietnamese food and these special dishes are really hard to find at any different Vietnamese restaurant. Bun Cha Ha Noi - is also called Obama noodle because President Obama had it when he was in Vietnam. Besides the grilled pork, the hardest thing in my opinion is the sauce, which was good here. The only that bothered me is how small the portion is. We had to order extra meat for my daughter. Bun Dau Mam Tom - I have high expectation for a very authentic Vietnamese disk so I was not impressed with their Bun Dau Mam Tom. It normally comes with pork intestine. Where is my pork intestine? Haha Again the portion is also very small. Nem be which is similar to spring roll was also something we called at the end when everyone was still hungry. Whatever it was Pho Saigon Viet-Nam served me up the best Satay Beef Pho I ever tasted. I started my lunch meal with spring rolls ($5,00). They were good but not the best spring rolls I ever had. The roll I thought was a bit chewy. Next came the Satay Beef ($12) which totally flavored the Pho. It was the best Pho I ever had but mind you I am no expert. They have a strange business model in that a small bowl is $11 and a large bowl is $12. It came out piping hot. I had to let it sit, as well as, blow on the broth to cool it down. The staff was tri-lingual. Imagine that! The food came out quick. It seems a lot of locals dine here. The restaurant is located in Chinatown. The street entrance is below ground level. The restaurant was relatively empty. Tabletops had a bit of a stench to it and the menus handed to us were sticky. Not one to judge a book by its cover and these conditions are fairly common in Chinatown. The menu was pretty extensive with all the common dishes. I really wanted some banh cuon or banh uot, but on a frigid night, I felt like some pho would hit the spot instead. The bun bo hue and banh canh were very enticing to me; those would've been great options on a cold night as well. Prices were reasonable ranging from 12-16$ based on size. We ordered a small and medium; instantly regretted not getting a bigger size though because I def could have eaten more. Broth was darker than normal. Nothing stood out about the broth, but it was pretty spice-forward and still very much hit the spot. They surprisingly loaded up on the meat; I've never had this much meat in my bowl of pho at any other restaurants. The noodles were also cooked perfectly! Realistically I probably wouldn't come back here as often if my other usual spots were open, but I'm especially grateful they were welcoming during holiday hours. I noticed that the banh xeo and some other dishes were cheaper than other places though, so maybe I'll return for that. CASH ONLY.
