We found our way to ZIZZI because it was right next to the apartment where we stayed in Inverness…read more And I'm so glad we did, because ZIZZI was great! I don't know how to describe the interior exactly, so I'll just call it rustic chic. A variety of different chairs around simple wood top tables. But each table was ornately set with large clear glasses, a wine bottle with the table number and wheat stocks(?) in it, a small candle, and vivid, brightly colored menus. And let's talk about those menus, shall we? So many tantalizing options. So many things just looked absolutely fantastic, and we were just a one couple, so we had a difficult time choosing between all of the different dishes. We started off with a Garlic Bombe. It was amazing. For drinks, we started with an Amalfi Sundown and a Limoncello Spritz. Those were both very delicious and refreshing. For our main dishes, we shared a Mushroom and Truffle with Burrata pasta (cause I have come to learn that you can never have too much burrata cheese), and a Pepperoni Campagna Pizza. These were unbeLIEVABLY good. We really didn't need any more food after all this, but they went and put a Baked Lemon and Black Currant Cheesecake on their dessert menu, and I'd never heard of that before. So naturally, I had to try it. It was fantastic, of course, and an excellent way to finish off our spectacular meal. The service was very friendly, and I was quite impressed by how fast everything came out. The place was hoppin', so that's just another indication that it's a good spot to grab a bite, when it's full of customers. We absolutely loved our visit to Inverness, and should we be fortunate to go back someday, ZIZZI would definitely be on our list of places to stop in for a meal.

The table was oriented so the seats sat facing directly into the setting sun and they never offered to lower the blinds, despite being literally blinded. They didn't clear the 2nd place setting which I HATE. No one offered me water. I ordered the strawberry mocktail which was supposed to be made with soda but tasted completely flat. For food I ordered the margarita pizza and I got a huge piece of cheese flatbread with 3 pathetic leaves of basil. Tasted as bland as it looked. I was in and out in about 25 minutes. I'd never come back.

Nice. But also somewhat disappointing. After reading the rave reviews we chose to come here for…read moredinner. It's a big and very busy restaurant, with two levels of tables. We were taken to our table upstairs, frankly it was warm and a bit uncomfortable. Our server was a charming man, who unfortunately for him was working along on his first day. The restaurant was short staffed and they assisted him very well. He apologized multiple times. The goat cheese salad starter was reasonably good, certainly not great. My wife selected the halibut special that was frankly too salty. My choice of the monkfish was much better. On the recommendation of the people at the next table, I ordered the cheese board dessert. It was the best part of my meal.

Ambiance wise, it's tough to tell if they're trying to be upscale or catering to the casual crowd, but based on the other patrons being dressed at least semi-formal, I'd go for the former. On the service front, we were sat top middle of the restaurant, in front of a mirror, I could see the whole place. I could see the staff. They, evidently, could not see me. I got walked past the entire time. When I was ready to order, had empty plates, wanted to order dessert, wanted to pay. I'm not usually one to advocate for digital ordering and paying, but it would have eliminated at least thirty minutes of my sitting here. As for the food, there was bread, a few oysters, highlander burger, and a lamb rump from the specials menu. A crepe and a cheesecake for dessert. The bread was pedestrian, and I felt the oysters were not worth it. The burger was amazingly moist with a depth of flavor that melded the ingredients into a wonderful meal. I also thought the lamb rump was amazing. Nothing competing with the delicate lamb flavor, merely accentuating it. As for dessert, I've never had a cheesecake as fluffy as this, and the crepe was a great balance of sweet and savory. Both desserts a did their job of closing out the meal on a successful note without being overly sweet. As I said at the start, if it was just the food, the only low points were at the very beginning and this would be a four. The service was so aggravating it ruins the entire experience and I can't recommend going here as a result.

This restaurant was on a website I use for finding local vegetarian and vegan places and it was only as I entered that I saw the three reviews were from 2008, 2009, and 2012. As often happens when you sit at a table we were handed menus and asked if we wanted a drink. One of my pet hates is being asked that when I've not located a drinks menu, if there is even a drinks menu. The waiter was going to come back but I went quickly to the draft beers page and ordered the only one they had, a Cobra. Indian restaurants should be the easiest place to get vegan food given how many people in India are vegetarian but it oftens poses the most problems. Here, it seemed some staff had the duties of taking drinks and money, and others had the responsibility of taking food orders. I thought I'd start with asking if the vegetable pakora was ok for vegans... she looks at me and shakes her head "No.." Me: "Does it have milk...egg...?" "Yes". "What about the samosa or onion bhaji?" Again she kind of grimaced and shook her head. Then we went to the mains. Tarka Daal? No, it has cream/ghee, I can't remember which. Well, of course it does. Then we were told that that type of food isn't what they do - "because it doesnt taste as nice that way" - and Indian Ocean around the corner was better for vegetarians. Good to know when we were already sitting with two pints. Basically, some Indian restaurants cook fresh to order, but I got the feeling these guys want to cook fast, serve fast, and get their tables back for the next round of paying customers. Faffing about with replacing ghee with a veg oil won't fly. So, we were told any veg curries except the daal were ok, so we enquired about another two and were told they weren't suitable either. Some dishes clearly said they were cooked with butter, cream or ghee, but others didn't but they were, too. We went with a potato curry and a cauliflower curry which were listed as vegetable sides but we asked for them as mains. At this point she said we could have most of the chefs main curries with vegetables but I like potatoes and I like cauliflower and couldn't be bothered with the vagueness of "vegetables" and potentially having to dissect it for chunks of mushrooms - the only vegetable I don't like. Food came in less than 10 minutes. The chapattis were lovely. Curries were fine. When the bill came it was around £9.50/£9.95 for each main when the veggie chefs mains were £8.95 so I'm sure the prices were bumped up, possibly as minimum spend per person on food was £12.95. I'm giving two stars rather than one as the other staff - whom we didn't need to engage with in as much dialogue - we friendly and prompt and the food we ended up with satisfactory.
