We were in Scotland for a wedding and happened to be there for my husband's 30th! Found this place online and booked it because of the great reviews. Get a reservation! Lovely ambiance, delicious food, and super super great staff. Perfect spot for an upscale meal in Inverness!

Best food ever!! The staff is so nice here. I dined alone because my husband wasn't feeling well and it was such a wonderful experience. The appetizer, the meal with dessert , the drink none of it could've been any better. This was truly the best meal I had had in my life. The desert was rhubarb something. It had a few different types of rhubarb, and every part of it was delicious. My appetizer was a curry risotto with prawns. I wanted to lick the dish. and my piece of fish for the main was amazing as well. I don't even like fish and I wanted to lick this plate clean as well. I had a passion fruit cocktail, and the presentation as well of the flavor was as good as it gets.

American Tourist here. Food was really good, prices are pretty much what you would expect for this type of restaurant. Not cheap but not horrendous. The Speyside Venison and Wild Sea Bass Risotto are really some of the best i've ever had. The service was average...pretty slow but that seems to be the norm in the UK...

Bravo, Rocpool! You pulled off a very successful evening the other night for the large group that I brought through your doors. And you did it with little notice! I had heard of Rocpool from a friend who had visited the area before. I doubted I could get a same day reservation (especially for a group of 9) but I called with my fingers crossed and they said they could accommodate us. Since it was a short walk from our hotel, we all arrived en masse and were immediately seated at a large table in the front window. This place is lovely. Contemporary, in tones of green and brown with dark wood set off by glittering lights. Even the bathrooms downstairs are artful with separate facilities but 5 or 6 communal sinks with sparkling fixtures. If you get there before 7 there is a prix fixe menu with your choice of a starter and entree for £15.95. The catch is that you have to be out of your seat before 8:30. Some in our group ordered from that menu, and others, like me, chose to go off of the regular dinner menu. I had the heirloom tomato salad with feta cheese (amazing!) and the linguine with shrimp and scallops (also amazing!). My friend went with the risotto with peas as his starter and the pork. Both were equally delicious. And for dessert, we shared fresh raspberries and strawberries with ice cream, honey and pistachios. I have never seen such plump, sweet berries. This was the perfect ending to an amazing meal. Our servers were outstanding, and didn't even flinch when we tried to explain that we needed the bill split in a variety of ways. And whoever was making our cocktails was able to make a pretty decent Manhattan (even though they had never heard of it) with just a little coaching. If you don't go for the set menu- it will run you about £30 a person (including drinks and dessert) so the set menu is a pretty good deal. I don't get surprised often when I eat out but Rocpool surprised me with it's amazing food, excellent service and lovely ambiance. It rivals some of the best restaurants I have eaten in and that should tell you all you need to know!

One of the best dinners I've had ever. It's the type of food that makes you dance while you eat it. Steven knows how to turn a dinner into an extraordinary dining experience. (She says as she dances away).

This is the best restaurant I have ever had in the Scotland! The risotto here is amazing ! And every dish looks so good and tastes good as well! 5 Star!

We arrived on time to a nearly empty restaurant (weekday evening, post rush hour, one other table wrapping up on the ground level as we arrived, a couple more on the upper level), and had to wait for our reserved table, which ended up being by the front door on a cold and rainy evening (aka normal Scottish weather for November). It was unclear what was slowing service down, but the wait to order cocktails was surprisingly long. Our drinks were made promptly and well. We began to place our meal order when the server excused themselves while in the process to take a drink order from the table that had arrived several minutes after we were seated (with the entirety of the lower level of the restaurant available, this boisterous table of four was set right next to us. Fortunately we hadn't been planning a quiet, romantic dinner...). In fairness to our server, there may have only been one other person working tables that night, but not great form even so. We eventually got our order placed. A breadbasket was brought out (three slices of bread for the two of us). Our food arrived in OK time and was itself OK, having seemed to have sat in the pass a little long for some reason. All this said, the menu looked solid, and while the entrees weren't especially memorable this visit, their cocktail options were good (we enjoyed the Highlanders Negroni made with Badachro Coastal gin) and desert options (a proper Mixed Berry Eton Mess). An additional positive note: my wife lost a ring in the restaurant during our visit and the bartender, quickly seeing that we were in distress, joined our search for it. I'm confident we would have given up on finding it were it not for his effort, so again, cheers to you, sir. This was above and beyond, and what I think probably passes for the standard of care that many experience dining here. So a mixed bag for us. I don't think this represents a typical dining experience here. Mustard Seed is well-thought of locally (there is a small, discreet shelf of awards tucked away around a corner), and if we should find ourselves back in Inverness looking for a dinner spot we wouldn't rule out Mustard Seed out of hand. I look forward to the prospect of rewriting this review.

We only had about an hour before we had to meet the bus to head back to the cruise ship. We were starving and I needed a beer. From the outside this place didn't look like a pub but walking in you definitely got that feeling. I ordered 2 Yorkshire puddings and haggis with whiskey sauce (because I was told they were appetizers) and my husband ordered some kind of soup which he said was very tasty. Of course he ate my other appetizer.. Because it was awesome. I ordered the Tennant Lager. Very good choice. Scotland has some mighty tasty brews. The service was ok though not especially attentive or quick. We unfortunately had to ask for everything. Had we more time to spend maybe the wait would not have been so bad. Having said that, the food was great and the beer was delicious. If you have some time and want something tasty, definitely stop in here.
