Dyson hair dryers for use in the shower room. Plenty of showers (7-8??). Nice Rituals shampoo + body wash. One shower did flood a little, so keep that in mind. Can change out towels as needed from a file cabinet in the common area; I shared a room with my friend, so grabbed an extra comforter as well- both items included! Pod living was similar to that of Japan, limited but adequate space. Common area available if you needed more room, place to work, etc. It felt a bit cramped for two people, but was fine overall. Bonus : resident black cat (needs occasional assistance exiting and entering the hostel).

Plus, the Lloyd Hotel was an old prison turned into an art project and 1-5 star hotel - who wouldn't want to stay there? Location: The hotel is located in east Amsterdam in the docklands. This area is an up and coming area. There's not much other than a couple of grocery stores, other household stores and a couple of restaurants. Arrival: It's a very simple arrival process. The hotel entrance is very non-descript and could be missed if you're paying attention. There's no place to park your car in front of the hotel except for the street. Bellman: There are no bellmen at the hotel to help you. So be sure you can carry your own luggage. Parking: There is a parking garage separate from the hotel. You have to push the "Lloyd Hotel" button upon entrance for your ticket since they share the garage with other offices in the area. Follow the "Lloyd Hotel" signs all the way down to the end of the garage to park. There's a stairwell that leads up to the ground level and the backside of the hotel across from the restaurant terrace. You have to pay for your parking at the hotel reception. Reception/Front Desk: It's a very small front desk which has two people. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Lobby: The "lobby" area is small, long and narrow with some couches spread out in a couple of areas. You can sit in the restaurant/cafe which is right across the reception. Room: There are 117 rooms which range from 1-5 star rooms and every room is different. We decided to go with a 4-star room and ended up with room 217. The room was long and rectangular at the end of the building. You walked into a small entry room with a table for two and a couch. You then walked into the bathroom and then into the bedroom. View: We had massive grand windows in the bedroom which looked upon a walkway. Bed: There were two twin beds which were pushed together to make a queen. The bed was comfortable. Bathroom: The bathroom was big and simple with a shower which had good pressure, sink and a toilet. Hair dryer: The dryer wasn't very strong. I'm particular about hair dryers because I have a lot of hair. Products: They had their own products and only had two bottles of shampoo and a small bar of soap. If you're staying in a 4-star room you should at least receive the basic toiletries of shower gel, conditioner, q-tips, etc. Closet: There wasn't a traditional closet in the room, but along the wall of the bathroom there were hooks with hangers you could hang your stuff. Safe: There was no safe in the room. Control Panel: N/A. Just a remote for the TV. Minibar: There was no minibar in the room. Mirrors: There were two small mirrors in the bathroom. Housekeeping: Poor. This is where I had the most complaints. 1) They didn't change the sheets and 2) They only have us one bath towel on day two. When I asked for another one they said they ran out, but very rudely said "we gave you one big towel and two small ones" and 3) We had an empty bag of potato chips and they left of on the floor. Wifi: The wifi was free and the speed was ok. Dining: We tried all three meals at the hotel restaurant cafe which were all fine. Please see my separate review of the restaurant. Spa: There was no spa at the hotel. Concierge: There isn't a traditional concierge at the hotel, but reception/front desk is very helpful and can answer any and all questions you may have. Style: The hotel is very quirky and artsy. Pet friendly: Dogs are welcome at no cost. This is the first hotel we've stayed at where our dog wasn't charged a fee. There is no bed, bowls, etc for the dog in the room, but you can't expect that since you don't have to pay. One thing though, dogs are not allowed in the room unattended which is good and bad. Good because your dog is allowed everywhere in the hotel, but bad because you have to find dog friendly places to go (other restaurants, cafes, etc) to on your trip. Luckily if you go to Amsterdam when the weather is good there are plenty of places with outside seating. Service: Overall the service is excellent (minus housekeeping) at the hotel. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. Two instances: 1) Robin from reception was not only super helpful with all of our Amsterdam questions, but also found us another bath towel and delivered it personally after I shared the information I received from housekeeping. 2) Ann from the restaurant tracked me down before checking out and found a t-shirt I wanted to purchase from the hotel store when we thought they were sold out. Would I go back? Yes, depending on the price since the pricing of the rooms fluctuate. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay, but I do think it depends on your room and whether you're ok with the range of clientele in the hotel.

The hotel is quaint, comfortable and the staff is incredibly welcoming, accommodating and friendly. Complimentary breakfast every morning is a bonus. The buffet consists of an overwhelming variety of freshly made food: eggs, bacon, fruit, pancakes..the list goes on; basically you start your day with a full belly and wallet! I have been back to Amsterdam several times since and each time, while I must admit to having researched other hotels, I have ultimately booked with the Rokin. It is centrally located; within walking distance to the train station, red light district and many other attractions one would want to visit in the city. The area surrounding the hotel feels very safe..even after dark. *Of course as per recommendation from any traveler, no matter where you are, just be sure to keep your wits about you* My most recent visit was this past April and I am happy to report my affinity for this hotel has not diminished in the slightest. The rooms are still clean and spacious. I was traveling with two others during this particular visit, and this was my first stay in a 3-person room at Rokin. Not a single complaint! We had plenty of space in the room and there was even a television, not that we utilized it much. All is still amazing; overall yet another excellent experience! I highly recommend Hotel Rokin for a stay in Amsterdam!

Everyone I interacted with there was professional, helpful, and friendly. Unfortunately, the good service at the front desk didn't extend to the rest of the hotel. The bar and Lotti's restaurant were both consistently understaffed, and the service was extremely slow. Lotti's also seemed to be out of a lot of the main dishes, even though the menu is already pretty limited. As for the rooms, they were okay, but felt a little worn and could really use some updating. Nothing terrible, but for what the hotel charges, I think you should be able to expect a bit more comfort and quality. After checking out the W Hotel nearby, which was much nicer for a similar price, I couldn't help but feel disappointed. For nearly $4500 after taxes for three nights in two rooms at the Hoxton, I honestly felt a bit cheated. Again, the front desk team deserves credit, but overall, I think the Hoxton needs to step up its game to justify these rates.

The hotel itself is quite unique, consisting of a collection of historic canal houses connected together along one of Amsterdam's beautiful canals. The property has a lot of character and charm that you won't find in a typical luxury hotel. Service throughout our stay was personable and attentive. The standout feature for me was the hotel's bar located toward the rear of the property. If you're a fan of Old Fashioneds, be sure to try their version--it was one of the highlights of our visit. One thing prospective guests should be aware of is the noise level. Due to the age and construction of the historic buildings, sound insulation is virtually nonexistent. We could easily hear noise from neighboring rooms and hallways, so light sleepers may want to bring earplugs or consider another option. Overall, the Pulitzer offers a distinctive Amsterdam experience with excellent service and a fantastic bar, but the lack of soundproofing may be a concern for some guests.

The entry way is hard to find, but it's hiding in the corner looking at a stream. You walk in and have a few sets of staircases, but just go to the right. The front desk was really interesting. All the employees have badges detailing what language they spoke. Check in wasn't later, so we stored our bags in their basement area which was super helpful and a must when you're carrying a crap ton of luggage. We got our keys and headed to our room. The rooms weren't anything out of this world, but very clean and -I'm assuming-standard. There are lockers in the room, which is an absolute must have when you stay in hostels (just bring your own lock). The bunk beds were fine, if not a little squeaky, but my boyfriend and I shared on. The bathrooms were single stall down the hall and the showers were spread out. I never personally had problems finding open bathrooms or showers. There was a bar downstairs with a mini restaurant. We were there on St Patrick's Day, which seemed overly Americanized. Oh well because we had some free beer tickets! We also tried some absinthe for the first time and... WOW! Breakfast was absolutely amazing. They do have a guest kitchen, but why cook breakfast when it's $8/night when you book early? The breakfast was a smorgasbord of local meats, spreads, fruits, veggies, breads (rye, wheat, sweet bread, and etc.), and so much more. The coffee machine has a thousand settings, including chocolate lattes. I highly recommend the chocolate latte with their farmer's bread and chocolate hazelnut spread. All in all I was very pleased with my first hostel experience. We stayed in Air BnBs the rest of the vacation, but I appreciated staying in the hostel. Clink was so close to everything and the central train station hub was a short fairy ride. Definitely invest in the Amsterdam rail pass and you have a quick way to get around town.

I stayed at ClinkNOORD for three nights this summer…read more Overall, it was a fairly good hostel. Had a nice community feel and had a fair amount of social events. The rooms themselves were okay. Definitely a bit grimy, but not too bad. You do have to make your own bed upon arrival, which is a bit silly. And super warm rooms. One fan in the room, but didn't do much to circulate air. My main issues were the bathrooms. The shower stalls didn't have any ventilation, so just opening the door you were hit with the scent of MOLD! Really grossed me out. The price overall was way more expensive than any other hostel I stayed in across Europe. I'm not sure if Amsterdam hostels are just more expensive in general, but I wasn't thrilled with the price hike and the subpar cleanliness and lack of things being ready upon arrival. It is fun to take the ferry across, but if I visit Amsterdam again, I will definitely be trying to stay on the other side of the river just for ease of access.
