My entire family goes to Nova. We started going there a few years ago and at this point I don't think we'd consider going to another salon. Every staff member is courteous, knowledgeable and professional. They treat each cut or style with care and take time to make sure we are happy with the outcome. We've had updos, boys haircuts, trims, adult styles and even our nails done at Nova. The price is competitive with what I've seen from other Salons, but I do not think it's too expensive. I bought a groupon for a series of facials. I can't remember who I had first, but when I went to their company's website it doesn't appear she works there any more. That's good, because it was like receiving a facial from the living dead. Her hands were cold, so was her voice and her touch was like a tiny butterfly was floating on the face (I kepy thinking "is she even actually touching my face") So odd Since I'm a believer that facials are large in part good/bad based on the esthestician, I will say the other two I had Jamileh. She is okay. Not good, but not terrible. She VERY VERY nice. Great personality. She takes the time to analyze your skin and do extractions. Her technique isn't that relaxing, but it gets the job done. There wasn't anything really memorable. This may be a great salon, but as a spa they should stop. It has tiny rooms in the back that their esthstician have to hurdle tables or cords to maneuver around. They are really small. I enjoyed my facials, but I won't go back as it really wasn't fantastic. read more

I found Nova Salon and Spa through an internet search while I was researching locations to get my hair and makeup done for my wedding. I highly recommend them to anyone else considering salon services for a special event. First, I called them from North Carolina, so I was going in blind. (It's hard to plan a wedding from a distance!) When I spoke to the employee on the phone, I was immediately put at ease. Most salons recommend getting trial hair appointments done for wedding hair and makeup weeks in advance, but that was not a luxury I had...I was only in town for a week before the wedding. However, it was not a problem for the folks at Nova. They scheduled me for the Monday prior to my Saturday wedding, and gave me INCREDIBLE service when I went in that day. They were thorough, asked all the right questions, and gave me exactly what I asked for. (I had a fairly intricate up-do, makeup, and an eyebrow wax done during the trial.) One more thing about their communication skills: when they could not reach me for a confirmation about a month prior to my wedding - my phone service was out briefly while I was switching cell phone services - they took the time to send me a letter to ensure that I had given them the correct number, and to check in with me. I was very impressed by that. On the day of my wedding, they had refreshments waiting for my wedding party and myself. They took us early, so we could get ready at ease, and they were professional and efficient the whole time. Jenn did my hair, and Jennifer (different one!) did my makeup. They were such talented and friendly women! All of my bridesmaids looked so beautiful, and they were especially great with my 12-year-old cousin. If it helps anyone to know, one of my bridesmaids was Korean and one was Chinese (the other two were white) - both women loved the job done by the Nova stylists, even after having concerns about Nova being able to work with Asian hair and skin tones. I came in yesterday for a haircut with Jen. She did a fantastic job--my hair was really grown out and scraggly, and she gave me a great-looking cut. My husband also came in the same day and really enjoyed his experience. I was in and out in under an hour, and the price was reasonable. Service was friendly and attentive. I have gone to this salon a couple of times and I got a hair cut. The next time the price increases! The hair cut was as good as any, but the cost has gone up almost double! A friend of mine was charged $69 for just a hair cut and I know people who get their haircut for less in Boston. I also got foils done once and after being there for 3 hours, with 3 pieces of foil used, I couldn't see any difference in my color. The worst part was I was charged over $200 and felt I received nothing. I didn't complain. I just left and will not return. The prices are ridiculous for a basic hair cut any salon could do and they lack real color skills. read more

I will start off with my positive commentary: The salon itself is appealing, clean, and the spa rooms are very comfortable. I have only been there for one service (permanence makeup for eyebrows), but I won't be going back. The initial visit was okay--she asked what I wanted and spent a good deal of time talking with me. However, the results were not what I wanted or had communicated, and I was assured that they would be fixed on the second visit. They were not and my technician seemed to just not be interested in fixing it. I paid several hundred dollars and feel like I was taken advantage of in the end. I will now be going to another salon to fix the issues as well as fill in what has already been done. They have drastically faded (more than the expected 30%) and it has only been about a month since my second appointment. If you are just going for some simple color and you are local to the salon then you might be fine, but if you are going because you want aesthetically appealing results then I would suggest looking at other salons. Be sure to review prior work to ensure that the technician has an artistic eye...I wish I had. read more

I had a facial with their new Aesthetician, Nancy. They really got things right this time. I believe they said she was California and NYC trained and it really showed. Her diplomas showing all the advanced training she had completed covered the wall. I have had trouble with breakouts all of my life with no rhyme or reason. No one has ever given me anything that has helped or no magic product has worked and quite honestly most have made my sensitive skin worse. During the consult, she somehow knew which foods I was eating, were causing my breakouts. She recommended supplements to help stop the reaction and diet modification. She did many different things to my face that weren't part of a specific facial, but parts from a few to give me exactly what I needed. With acne, sensitive skin, and skin that is starting to age, I am usually all red and blotchy after a facial, with blemishes even redder, but this time I wasn't. She told me that trying to dry out my acne was all wrong and we had to stop the internal causes and baby my skin. She wrote down all the things we talked about so I would not have to remember them and could just melt into the soft covers during an amazing facial massage. After finishing, we had a plan. She suggested a few important products to start and told me why each was important and why. I started with three items which we agreed sounded like a good plan. It is a little more than a week and my face is clear and no longer dry. I joined the facial program (I forget the name) which will give me further discounts for loyalty. I'm really happy! read more

Let me begin by saying that I requested and received a refund for the horrible nightmare experience that I had at this place. So at least they were responsive to my complaints. HOWEVER... I would absolutely not recommend that anyone go here for a facial or to have their eyebrows threaded. I can't speak to the rest of the services I went to Nova three days before my destination wedding because my sister had heard good things about them. I needed my eyebrows touched up and I had a crazy zit on my face. I spoke to someone on the phone about what I was looking for and she seemed to be very knowledgeable and helpful and suggested that I come in to have my eyebrows done and that the same aesthetician could also deal with my zit. We agreed that I absolutely should not have a full facial so soon before my wedding, but that she could do the high frequency treatment to address the zit. First of all, the "aesthetician" (I think her name was Jamilah) did not ask me a single question about what I wanted her to do with my eyebrows. She actually didn't ask me any questions at all. I had to kind of jump in and tell her what I wanted before she started. After about 45 seconds of actual threading, Jamilah got out some tweezers and started plucking. I've been having my brows threaded for four years. I've never seen a pair of tweezers come out. I can tweeze my eyebrows at home. After looking in the mirror, I had to go back and ask Jamilah to get all the hairs she had missed. And then I had to do more cleanup when I got home. Ridiculous. The "threading" was bad, but it didn't come close to being as awful as the rest of my experience. I said to Jamilah, "I do not want a full facial, but I would like you to do the high frequency treatment on this zit." Jamilah said to me, "You really need to have a full facial." I said to Jamilah, "I'm getting married in three days. I do not want a full facial. I don't think it's a good idea because I don't want to do anything to irritate my skin. I would just like you to do the high frequency on this zit." Jamilah said to me, "The facial is really what you need. It's not harsh at all - I'm just going to do a moisturizing facial treatment." I said, " I don't want do do anything that will irritate my skin. I have very sensitive skin and I'm currently using a retinoid product that makes my skin even more sensitive. I don't want to risk irritating my skin so soon before the wedding." Jamilah said, "This is really just a moisturizing treatment that will be very good for your skin. It doesn't irritate anything at all. You need the moisturizing treatment because I can see your skin is very dry. It won't be a problem at all with the retinoid product you're using. This will just be a calming moisturizing treatment." I finally gave in and agreed to the facial because facials feel nice and this professional aesthetician assured me that it was not possible to have a bad reaction to the treatment. I went home that night with a neck so red and irritated that it looked like the worst sunburn of my life. I figured it would pass. It did not. The next day (2 days before my wedding) my neck and throat looked sunburned and the skin on my face felt like I'd never used moisturizer in my life. I had to spend the entire day reapplying heavy moisturizing cream just to make my face and neck stop hurting. I called Nova to tell them and ask them what to do. They couldn't tell me anything but that they'd never heard of that happening before and that they would try to reach Jamilah and see what she suggested. Naturally they couldn't reach her. A day later, still bright red and in pain, I called again and they agreed to send me a check for the cost of the facial. I should have asked for an additional check to compensate me for the additional stress they added to an already incredibly stressful time. Fortunately, my skin calmed down in time for the wedding, but I actually STILL have the zit that I wanted treated in the first place. My wedding was three weeks ago. read more

I walked into this salon located next to a gym in a worn down strip mall on a Friday afternoon asking for a cut. I got a simple straight bob with no layers. NONE. That means the cut was simple taking no more than 15 min. The cutter was pleasant enough but cut was NOT worth 65 dollars. I think the owners of this salon must be smoking something to think that this is a good value. Not going back. Supercuts will do the SAME for 14.95. read more

All I can say is fabulous!!! For my wedding I had four bridesmaids, myself, my mom, my mother-in-law to be, and a very close family friend (total of 8 girls). We all had our make-up and hair done prior to the wedding. Our make up was gorgeous (Natasha did mine) and lasted the entire night. Our hair was also fabulous!! Joe always made sure the girls were doing okay. They gave us gift bags (such a cute and unexpected touch), had pastries and waters waiting for us. They also allowed us to bring in our own champagne and offered to have a punch bowl if needed. They completely switched out one of their spa rooms and converted it into a highly functioning make up room. I feel awful because I am completely blanking out on the wonderful lady who did my hair. She was literally the best at what she did!! I promise to edit my review when her name comes to me! Post-wedding brain!
