After trying to get it working, she not only promptly moved us to an upgraded room, she checked several to be sure we got the one with the best possible a/c and even offered to help us move our bags. We did not lose even a half hour of our vacation time! In general this is a wonderful place! It's well maintained and very clean. Every staff person we encountered was warm, friendly, and helpful. I appreciated that a 24 hour guest laundry is available up near the cabins. Our room came with nice toiletries, a decent blow dryer, and the shower had great water pressure.

I played here the morning of my wedding with my groomsmen, it was cold, really cold. In fact it was snowing on one of the holes at the top of the mountain. Yes a mountain. At least it feels that way when playing. the holes are up hill or down hill, not a whole lot of level playing. But Fun! But that was one of my most enjoyable games. This is the only course i have ever played where i will always get a cart. I just don't feel like walking up a mountain. The resort itself is awesome, the rooms are great, the views of Bras Dor Lakes are great, the food is oh-so-good. I can't wait to play this course, on a nicer summer day. My wife and I found the MacKenzie House B&B while looking for a place to spend one night in Port Hawksbury. We were pleased with our spacious and clean room. The view is AMAZING and the location is just about perfect. The cottages are housekeeping, and the kitchens have pretty much everything you'll need. There is a barbecue on the spacious deck in front of every cottage. There were flyers for a fish and chips place down the road when we visited, but we were happy to cook for ourselves. The two bedrooms are very cozy, with wood panelling throughout and ceiling fans to keep you cool. The hot water is plentiful. You can have fresh towels on demand. There is a TV in each cottage if the weather fails to cooperate, and the office loans out movies (including a decent selection of kids titles) and has a small lending library. The stairway down to the water was off limits last summer when we visited, but no matter. A quick drive down the highway leads you to a dirt road that leads to the sweetest little sheltered beach. The water was warm and the sand warmer. The shallows continue for a good long way out, so it's a great beach to visit with kids. Speaking of kids, there's a nice playset out in the middle of the grounds and lots of room to run round. If you're affected by sand flies, you may want to be careful, but only the allergic member of our party had troubles on our visit.

But even in light of that, the Antigonish Victorian Inn, though charming, was a huge disappointment. Building is beautiful, at least what you can see of it. There are no sitting rooms, salons, or public areas of any kind. Everything is closed up. No breakfast room, not even coffee in the morning. My room was beautiful, apparently the nicest in the inn. But no working TV and, worst of all, NO HOT WATER. What kind of inn has no hot water? I was in Antigonish for a business conference and couldn't even get the water warm enough for a cold shower. The room wasn't cheap, over $200 per night. It really feels like the owners are trying to operate this business by spending as little money as possible. And in the hospitality industry, that just won't work. Never again!

Seriously the King sized bed looked little in that room. Beautiful decor, large immaculately clean ensuite bathroom, lots of big windows overlooking the property and giving plenty of light, gorgeous common rooms and a huge back deck were wonderful features found here. We didn't have dinner, but the dinning room is a restaurant open to the public and featured an elegant menu. Right adjacent there is a little bar area where you can purchase an evening drink to help you unwind. Breakfast was served in the dinning area at individual tables (seating a max of 4). We helped ourselves to some yogurt, fruit, juice and cereals at the side board and were then served a hot breakfast of eggs, bacon & toast. Everyone on staff was friendly and accomodating, what a lovely stay we had.

Upon entering the door my heart must have sank looking at the old house. I though this is going to be a long night. The welcome was warm and friendly and John was funny. Which was a relief. He showed us the bedroom which seemed older. But as we settled we came to grips that this must be a century home. The hardwood floors, the ceiling, the crown moulding, the railings outside, the bathroom. It can be a museum. The bed was OK, but the room had character. Overlooking the river and some side small rooms also rented by the same folks. Please refer to the pictures to believe it. The living room (parlour then) was amazing. They have pictures of the original owners. The house built more than 130 years ago!! We also told the host that we were vegetarian no eggs and a vegan. The host still made amazing breakfast for us. My family stayed in a unit in the house so I can only speak for it, but it was so adorable! The floors were a little creaky and I don't think soundproofing was fantastic, but the furnishings were old-school and very cute. The slanted ceiling, old wooden wardrobe, pictures and quilts, lacy curtains, and the washroom (with a shower and a separate old-style bathtub) had an adorable antique vibe. The size of the room was standard, but the washroom was quite roomy. I personally loved it! I believe it was a heritage house. It also had an amazing view of the harbour. Unfortunately we got in late and it faced west so we couldn't see sunrise, but I imagine sunset would've been spectacular! We also had breakfast there. If you're looking for fast grab-and-go this probably isn't the place (although I'm sure you can make arrangements), since there was just a couple as staff. However, the service was great and they were super attentive. The food was home-style and made on the spot to order, and coffee is freshly ground coffee beans pressed. It was a relaxing meal overlooking the beautiful view of the water. Would recommend a stay here :)

The room is typical for an inexpensive motel, and we really didn't have any issues. We did pass through the restaurant but chose not to eat there, as it looked like some pretty generic food that was not appealing to us. Instead we went down to the local supermarket and picked up a roasted chicken to eat, which was perfect for us. We did have an issue with our door, where the battery basically died on the electronic lock. They had a serviceman out there immediately to replace the battery, where we then got to hear stories about how the door locks had been installed by Pat Benetar's father (he apparently owns an electronic door lock company). There is no continental breakfast offering, so you will be on your own for food in the morning. There may be food at the restaurant in the morning, but I did not check. Situated in between New Glasgow and Antigonish NS. Very easy to find, you can see their red roof from a distance as you approach it! We traveled with our 4 year old son, the inn is perfect for families. They have 3 very personable dogs, a pack of alpaca's, a coop full of chickens, and a donkey named Danny. Beautiful property that has access to the beach, what a coast line! Stunning sunset views over the water, and the star gazing at night was beyond great. A very short ride down the road brings you to Arisaig Provincial Park, where you can walk along the beach and see fossils. We stopped as we were leaving Nova Scotia, Cape Breton and the Cabot Trail on our way back to the states. A good stopping off point for a similar road trip. Also close to Pictou and the PEI ferry. The innkeepers Josie and Jim are wonderful people with a gem of a home. Cannot recommend their hospitality enough!
