Received a terrible sports massage today from Nova Therapeutic ~ Courthouse. I put in my intake form that I am an athlete & have a race coming up in four days. I asked for and booked a sports massage & firm pressure. I did not put down my specific areas in intake form b/c I feel as though ppl don't read them. I prefer telling the massage therapist what is going on. I did. The therapist came in, did not introduce herself. Nothing. I said; "my hips are tight, I believe it's my psoas and lower back and glutes". "Can you spend time on my right hip" She kept massaging my back. okay, I thought.. she will work her way to my leg. NOPE. I asked again. Can you please massage my legs, esp my lower back and hip. She rubbed my neck. I repeated my self... my legs. She rubbed my head. After the fourth time, I gave up. So pissed off. Massage therapist did not speak English so did not know what I was even saying. I found this language barrier issue out when I told the front desk and manager that I was upset b/c she did NOT give me a sports massage. Manager responded. Can you stay and we can work your legs now. I said; NO. I have to go and I don't have time to get undressed again. So annoyed. They gave me a gift cert. Why would I go back to a place that provided crappy service to begin with. Worst massage place I have ever been to. As an athlete that has been to a number of massage establishments ~ waste of time & money. Do not recommend if looking for good sports massage. read more

Got a half hour massage and facial from Maggie. But I didn't know her name until I was finished and came out to pay and asked the receptionist, cuz Maggie only said about 4 words to me during the hour. She never asked about pressure. She never asked what I wanted. It was bizarre. The massage felt very "phoned in" and not at all specific to my muscles or needs. A large part of it was just general "rubbing" through the sheet. When she finally got the oil out, even when I could feel her hit a ropey muscle (and she could obviously feel it too) she just skipped it and kept the general rubbing. The scrub and facial were better, but oddly she left the room twice without telling me. I thought I heard the door, which was strange, and finally after about a minute I looked up to find myself alone in the room. Never had that before in a massage or other service. When a person came back and started up again I had no idea if it was her or someone else. And she asked NOTHING about my skin - dry, oily, sensitivities... She didn't know I had contacts in (I wondered if I should tell her, but it was so oddly quiet...). She did know my age (wouldn't she need to know that to know what types of things to use??). But now that I think back on it I realize: they use the same products on everyone I bet. One scrub. One oil. One cream. One lotion. One lip treatment... Nothing at all personalized. My partner got an hour massage and sadly, felt the same. His therapist also never introduced herself. In fact, she never said a word. For both of us, it was clear the therapists had not read our intake forms. The whole place is very "factory-like". While I waiting for my partner to finish, the receptionist assigned a therapist to a massage by saying, "Room one - new client". No name. No details. No info. Not a great experience. Not worth the price. My partner just came up with a great description of the experience - it is like a CAR WASH where you roll up, put your car on the tracks, and roll through. I've been trying different types of facials and locations in NOVA and so far the hydra facial offered here was the most relaxing spa experience yet! The appointment process was very easy. The staff professional and pleasant. The room was nice and cozy. The locations a little hard to spot, but it's right outside courthouse metro so convenient to get to. The facial itself was pretty standard IMO, but what made it an extra nice spa experience was the facial massage that felt like a hot stone massage. I got a couples massage from here yesterday. I had a great experience, the facility is nice and clean and quite a decent size. The staff is also extremely kind and helpful, I really loved their service. During the massage I could tell my masseuse was experienced, she could tell where there was tension and really helped massage the sore-ness out (I've been working out quite recently). Their prices are affordable, and the place is clean and smells good. It's true that they give you a discount if you pay with cash or check, probably because of credit card processing fees. As other people have mentioned, if you book online, you don't know which masseuse you will get, but you can make an appointment by phone and request a particular masseuse. Pressure is such a subjective quality, but definitely all of the masseuses I've seen go harder than I like when I ask for medium pressure, so now I've started asking for light pressure. Upon leaving my husband and I agreed we wouldn't go back for a massage but preferred to find another place more relaxing. My husband and I try to go regularly for our respective back / shoulder knot issues and never fail to have a good (and hurts-so-good) experience with Tony, Jerry, Wendy or Linda! After many massages here, my recommendations for best experience are to: (a) opt for 90 min if you have specific areas where you'd like to focus (b) pay with cash for a discount on the service, and don't forget cash for tip! -- there is an ATM in store as well (c) your mileage may vary depending on who you work! Not impressed at all. The lady who walked me to the room was rude. My female masseuse seemed annoyed to be giving a massage. She used one-hand and sat down most of the time. She completely overlooked what I said hurt. She didn't even given me a foot rub. She tried massaging my throat (why, idk) and I told her to stop, because the angle she had my neck and the pressure she applied was painful. Btw, my neck still hurts almost 12 hours later. I asked for cupping and pointed to where I wanted the cups. She ignored me again. I had to firmly tell her where to place them and she switched then. The room was hot and the table fabric was itchy. When I left, a girl was complaining in the lobby because her entire face went red from what she said was the aromatherapy. I think it was the table coverings. Def will never go back or recommend. I am a very frequent customer of this particular massage place. It is located very conveniently next to the courthouse metro station (orange and silver lines). The entire place is extremely clean, neatly decorated, and serene. It has that relaxing spa feel from the moment you walk in the door. There's soft music, soft lighting, and nice smells throughout. I could not say enough about the comfort exuded by the atmosphere. The staff is also very kind and friendly. They usually recognize me at this point and know what I am going to request. I have never had a bad experience thus far. My massages are always exactly what I need and tailored to my specific requests and symptoms. I usually go with light pressure because these women are STRONG. I could just be a wimp, but let me tell you if you ask for some harder pressure, they will deliver. There's not a knot they can't undo. They also offer couples massages in a larger room, and my partner and I have done that a few times too. It's a fun experience as well. I do recommend splurging on some massage add ons. You can get hot stones added for very cheap and it's so so so worth it! They have a great groupon deal that's very cheap. I recommend checking that out. They also have a deal if you buy multiple massages up front and that is worth your money too! If not the worst massage experience I've ever had, it's up there! Didn't even see the masseuse at all, as I was told by the receptionist to lie on my stomach before she entered, and she left right away when it was done - which is weird? In between was painful. Not ooh-that's-nice kind of pain, more like did-this-person-have-any-professional-training kind of pain. A robot probably would've done better. At checkout I was misled to entering my phone number into some sort of weird point system they have that I had no interest in joining. The best part was then when I was told my $5 tip was not enough, and the reception pointed to their "tip guide" by the register. I told her how bad the massage was, and how weird it was to not even see the masseuse. At that point she apologized for my poor experience and offered to make it right, which went a long way towards making me leave on a good note. Just kidding! Back in the reality of this putrid establishment, she just smiled and processed the $5 tip. I said, "You don't care do you." She laughed a little and said, "No," as if that was the silliest thing she's ever heard. Points for honesty? Walking in I was greeted professionally by the receptionist at the front desk. She had a smile on her face and Welcomed me to my 1st time appointment there. Then she checked my temperature. All good. I noticed the door to my massage room did not lock or latch it was just a swinging door. Music was a little loud and the lighting was not dim enough to my liking. The floor has no carpet just regular high school cafeteria tile. John was my massage therapist which I was told did not speak English which made me very uncomfortable. You see, since John couldn't speak English he just got straight to work. So I couldn't say anything about the music or the lighting because John wouldn't of understood me anyway. The massage table was not comfortable. Felt like more like a portable travel table than a sturdy massage table. The thin white sheets with little to no coverage made me feel uncomfortable to other places I have been where there is some type of blanket or more coverage than just a flat sheet. John's Massage did what it needed to do and I won't say anything about his style because I was okay with his way of work. I gave John a $10 tip. And I won't be back. I decided to try this place out due to the raving reviews, so I booked a couples massage as a surprise for my boyfriend. And that's about where the good news ends for my experience. First, we had a 3pm couples massage appointment and arrived at 2:45pm. Once there we were asked to fill our forms that we had previously filled out upon booking the appointment. We mentioned we had already done this, and were asked to continue anyways. Then another front desk person comes up and crosses out our forms and laughs and said we didn't need to redo them. A nuisance, but not too much to complain about. We continued to sit and wait in the entry way as our 3pm slot rolls by. At 3:11pm we are taken back to our room - note we had 60 min massages booked. Massage time comes around and I noted I had some previous injuries. The massage therapist proceeds to not listen to my pressure recommendations or responses to her brutal hands. This was my 15+ deep tissue and I've never been so uncomfortable and in down right pain. As we finally finish I don't think to even look at the clock, I just want to leave. We pay and walk out and I check the time and it's 4:10pm...so our 60min massages were maybe 45-50 min, and that's pushing it seeing as check out took a bit. Two days later and I am covered in finger print bruises and working with a physical therapist and chiropractor to determine if any major damage was done. My boyfriend had previous injuries as well, and when discussed with his massage therapist had a pleasant experience. However, he still did not recieve the full time allotted and that is the only positive I have from the experience. The 2 stars are solely from his visit and not mine. Purchased a couples massage to surprise my boyfriend. The staff was very friendly and tentative. We did have to wait a bit after our original scheduled time because the people before us arrived late. The massage itself was soothing and relaxing. The room has dim lights and is playing calm music. They massaged from the head to the feet and spent a good amount of time on each body part. My boyfriends masseuse applied a bit more pressure than desired and when he asked for lighter, the masseuse didn't quite understand. Other then that, it was an hour well spent! Wonderful first experience! It's tucked away in the courtyard by the Courthouse Metro Station-- I got a little turned around looking for it but I'm directionally challenged so that's on me. I went right when Phase 2 of businesses reopenings happened, since working from home has been horrible for my posture and my chronic back pain flared up. I also have a surgery scheduled that would render me bedridden for a few months. I figured this was a great chance to get my last massage in for a while. My check in process was all virtual so when I arrived I was serviced seamlessly. I felt safe the entire time, since the business was very carefully following distancing and sanitation guidelines. The massage room/beds were sanitized after every client and everyone wore masks. They have great specials going on now that made my 2 hour massage super affordable. I highly recommend if anyone is looking to treat themselves! Linda was SO strong (almost too strong, ha... I'll be asking for a softer touch next time) and worked on all my knots. She was also so nice! I also added a mint body scrub for only +$15! It was wonderful. The combo of a minty scrub with warm towels made me feel so refreshed and pampered. It's not the nicest massage place I have visited but for the price and service, I don't think you can beat this. The massage was great. My masseuse, Jerry, was a very talented man. His massage was professional and skillful. Unfortunately, he could not understand me, as he spoke limited English. This became an issue when he transitioned from massaging my back to my legs. With no communication regarding next steps, he briskly exposed my leg and started massaging. I felt extremely uncomfortable and could not communicate that to him. In a practice such as this, communication is crucial. It is up to the masseuse to create an environment where their client feels safe and empowered to speak up if something feels wrong. Jerry was very talented and professional, so if you are comfortable with getting down to brass tacks, I would recommend him. But if you are like me, and need to be able to openly communicate with your masseuse throughout the massage, I would double check that you and your masseuse speak the same language. Great experience! I found this massage place on Yelp, easy booking, they were very accommodating. Upon arrival, I was given a quick tour, they also gave me a choice of what room I could have my massage, but each room was really similar. Lighting was well designed and had a calming event to each room. Massage itself was great, no complaints, well worth the price which was very appropriate, not very expensive. I saw a man come staggering out of one of the massage stalls, get to the counter and try to pay, only to realize he didn't have his wallet. He seemed totally out of it, and the weirdest thing was that the front desk woman told him that he can just come back and pay later. He staggered out. I asked the front desk woman if she was going to call the police and she said no, that he lived in the area and recently lost his wife.
