Very well run office--and for a good reason--look at what they're regulating.! Administrative staff are professional and knowledgeable.

All phone and text service to…read morethose contemplating "suicide" will be answered by a series of prepared statements and responses created by trained professionals from the psychiatric and counseling community. I used the system on Sunday 26, 2025. I checked the amount of time it took for the AI to respond after I answered the question; which took it 25 to 30 seconds to respond. About the same amount of time it takes the Walmart app to add something to your cart. And about the same amount time for the Walmart app to crash. Next time try Linux (Android) kernel. Must have something to do with the Microsoft Windows 2000 kernel underneath the service. You need to use real people who can contact local professionals and hospitals who can intervene. I have heard of these ads from my daughter who lives in NC. I watch quite a bit of TV when I'm home…read morein KY and have never seen one of these public service ads that encourage parents talk with their children on important topics. While visiting family in NC I have seen ads on topics that include talking to your children about the use of prescription medication and the importance of not taking it if it is someone else's prescription. A second ad was well presented about a teenager showing her confidence in declining peer pressure to have an alcoholic drink. It instills the thought that it is fine not to participate in an activity you know is wrong. A third ad shows a parent conversing with their child in a non lecturing way about not participating in illegal drug activities. There are many other ads that I've seen in the past several weeks. The ads are such that if you happen to be in a room with a child or grandchild it just leads to a non confrontational discussion on an important topic. I wish these ads were aired in my home location because it is supposed to be a nationwide program!

I am writing this review specifically about my experience with the Montgomery County Jury…read moreCommissioner's Office during a phone call on Monday, August 3, 2026, after receiving a notice instructing me to contact the office regarding a missed jury summons. I called voluntarily to explain my circumstances and determine what I needed to do next. My elderly mother-in-law underwent knee replacement surgery, later suffered a serious fall that required additional surgery, and subsequently developed sepsis. She remains in recovery, and I have been her primary daytime caregiver while my wife works full-time. Unfortunately, the interaction began in a confrontational manner. Rather than first asking about my situation or explaining the office's process, the conversation immediately focused on telling me that I had "canceled three times," and I found it difficult to fully explain my circumstances without being interrupted. After reflecting on the conversation, I realized the office counts the original summons, a granted postponement, and subsequent summonses as separate opportunities to serve. Once I understood that, the timeline made sense. However, that process was never clearly explained during the call, and I believe it would help many jurors if it were communicated more clearly from the outset. My disappointment is not with the fact that I still have a civic obligation to serve. I respect the importance of jury duty. My concern is with how the conversation was handled. By the conclusion of the call, I was instructed to fax documentation regarding my mother-in-law's medical situation so it could be reviewed. However, I later discovered that I had already been issued another jury summons with a new reporting date. Since the office's system is able to display that information, it would have been extremely helpful to conclude the conversation by simply explaining my next steps, such as: "Please send us the documentation for review. In the meantime, I also see you've already been issued another jury summons. Unless you're granted a postponement, it's important that you report on that date." That would have left me with a clear understanding of where things stood instead of having to piece everything together afterward. Likewise, a simple closing statement such as, "I'm sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. I hope she has a speedy recovery," would have demonstrated empathy without changing the outcome of the call in any way. Public employees interact with residents from all walks of life, many of whom are already dealing with stressful family, medical, or financial circumstances. The outcome of my situation may not have changed, but the experience certainly could have. Professionalism, clear communication, and empathy are not mutually exclusive. This experience left such an impression on me that I intend to document it further as part of my work as a journalism major, not to single out any individual, but because I believe effective communication between public offices and the citizens they serve is an important topic worthy of discussion. I sincerely hope this office reviews how these interactions are handled, because a conversation can be both professional and compassionate while still holding people accountable for their civic responsibilities.

Over the past several years, I've gone to the office and been turned back to fix A, B, and C. When I returned, work completed, I'd meet with someone else who would require me to go home and change D, E, and F. I think my record was 6 trips before they look at my plans on that job. 311 said this had all changed. Dominic Deyo was the first to meet with me and was super helpful. The previous day I was misinformed by 311 about one thing. I had been told that printing my plans on 8.5" by 11" paper was acceptable. Dominic showed genuine concern and understanding and then assisted me in getting them printed right then and there on the correct size paper. 2 hours later, I'd met with 3 other employees (who were also very reasonable and efficient) and I walked out with approved plans to finish a basement!!! Same day, one trip. While 311 was wrong about the size of paper I needed to bring in, the 311 person was correct about the permit office's efforts to make the process MUCH easier and FAR more efficient. It really felt like an office full of people who truly care.
