What a cute little museum. Well I shouldn't say cute, it is rather informative and I did learn a lot about the history of my favorite brat. I did not know that Nuremberg used to be a central hub of the Roman Empire and the spice trade, which also explains the many spice stores in the city. One Nuremberg butcher had a bright idea and so was the first to add various back then termed "exotic" spices to their brats. It was a huge success and these are still known as one of the best brats in the world. I tend to eat my fair share every time I'm in the area.
The exhibit also has the various spices available to smell and touch.
Of course the stories of how these brats came to be so tiny, vary greatly. The most logical explanation is that the spices were so expensive back then, yet they needed the masses to be able to afford the brats to make them a true success. By making them so small and thereby lowering the cost and therefore the price, even the average person would be able to afford them at least occasionally.
All that is missing here are a few brats on your way out after your visit.
I did suggest that, but it would likely increase the price, which is currently at an affordable 3 Euros.
In addition to the exhibits, the attendant (owner/manager/curator/idk) is very enthusiastic and adds to the experience with various background stories and myths.
And if you would like a souvenir, they have those too. The tees are great, with witty sayings and of pretty good quality. read more
