The moyin moyin is quite flavourful but the jollof rice is a real disappointment. I've had far better in Ghana. Two years ago: I popped into here for lunch around 1:30pm today and whilst the owner could have been friendlier in greeting me (a smile doesn't hurt ya know), I appreciated him coming outside the restaurant to hand me my takeaway food where I had waited in the lovely sun for my order. The interior is quite small with only a couple of tables with lovely African sculptures all around. There is chalkboard of specials along with the regular menu. Sadly the sweet potato balls were sold out so I got the moin moin and the spinach stew. All together less than a tenner. There are four pieces of moin moin, which are just deliciously savoury. I recommend eating them with the nonspicy spinach stew with melon seed, which, whilst not delicious, was tasty and filling. It would be perfect on a cold winter night. If I was in the area, I would return just for the moin moin!

It was a strange smell....that I can't put my nail on. After the dog lover excitement wore off I definitely smelt it. Fast forward we were not able to sit in as the owner stated she was going to close in an hour and 30 minutes and you could only do take away at that time. Was not happy about that but just went along with it. Placed out orders for a veggie platter and made sure the injera was gluten free. Walked next door to take a look while she was preparing our food for take away. Came back and the food was packed and ready. Oh and just a heads up they do take card and cash. If you have a US card her machine does take it even if she states she doesn't think it will. I did it and she was shocked lol. Food is packed and we leave. After getting back to our rooms and opening the food...that smell I was speaking about in the beginning we can all smell again. It was a unbearable smell that made it extremely difficult to eat the food. I was able to eat the injera and it really smelled and taste (maybe in my head) like the smell. I ate the veggies and even though it had a slight smell I was able to complete that but the injera was a BIG NO! All in all we could not figure out the smell. The owner was a sweet lady, but I wished she wouldn't have told us to take away as it took away from the experience. I wish I was able to give 5 stars like most folks...but I have to be honest with my experience.

I wanted to go for the lamb but Genetesh advised me to pick the N°21, "Spicy" beef with 1 injera and a local ethiopian beer to get it all down...perfect combo. Kokeb is all-in-one. Excellent ethiopian food comes together with the local decor & music...and Genetesh is there help you feel welcome, relaxed, at home...she'll also help you out if this is your first ethiopian experience (bye bye fork, hello right hand). A family run business with great taste & heart, and I love that.

The progression of dishes grew steadily on me, and by the end, I was especially captivated with the desserts, where the interplay of heat and sweetness sang. The meal began with a rich gola pepper chicken broth. I skipped alcohol and chose a Da Hong Pao oolong, floral and earthy, which paired beautifully. I found the tempura-style turbot with bright crab salad to be a textural delight, and the aged beef rib with their signature smoked jollof rice and lobster custard met expectations. Pepper appeared in many forms and shown most for me in the dessert: Jasmine sorbet warmed with chili oil, peppercorn mousse over brown butter ice cream and ginger cake, and sweet melon offset with unexpected numbing spice. Service was warm and conversational, though timing between courses was noticeably slow. When I mentioned my plans to explore cocktail bars, a manager returned with a handwritten list of some favorites. I also loved the design of the space, it was sculptural yet comforting, reflecting the same balance of discipline and warmth that defined the food. The kitfo was perfect, raw with niter kibbe and just the right amount of mitmita. The Ayer was obviously house made. The awaze tibs were also delicious although perhaps a little overcooked. We also had the veggie combo. The miser wat was superb. Even the mild veggies such as the kik alicha were flavorful. And the gomen actually was made with collards, not spinach like often in Europe. The injera was also good. Service was delightful. And we had a choice of several Ethiopian beers. (I did not try any Thai food here. I am also a Thai food snob! But at our current main residence, we get great Thai but only mediocre to poor Ethiopian. Therefore, our choice today! Definitely a winner!
