In addition to presenting indie films, foreign films, or thought-provoking documentaries that you won't usually find at corporate-owned theaters, the Clairidge's theater auditoriums are smaller and more intimate than you'd find in the big, corporate-owned theaters and only one of the six auditoriums have the fully-reclining seats that have become the industry standard. On the other hand, the concessions go way above and beyond the classic movie theater snacks like popcorn, candy, and sodas which enhances the unique viewing experience. The Clairidge's concessions stand offers beer, wine, and canned cocktails - including the "Director's Cut Blood Orange IPA" created by New Jersey Beer Co. exclusively for Montclair Film. None of those seemed to get me through the door until I saw "A Cat in the Hat" was playing and I finally decided to take my little niece and nephew out to see a local play. It's a small space down in the basement of St. Stephen's school. Tickets for adults are $8 and kids $5. Folding metal chairs are arranged for seating. There's a small concession stand selling individual cookies and water at breakeven prices. For the kids they had paper Dr. Seuss hats at $1 each. It felt like I was going to a school play and I loved that feeling. The kids sat still the entire 45 minutes and were completely enchanted. I have to admit, so was I. After the show the Cat and Thing 1 and 2 and the entire cast came out to meet the kids and take photographs with them. Next up in April, "Steel Magnolias", something I would definitely take my Mom to see. After that it's "The Fantasticks" in June followed by "The Addams Family". Best part: you can star in any of these productions! They regularly hold open auditions. Tickets are available online, by phone, or in person a half hour before showtime. Their previous productions include; Cinderella, Bleach Bums, It's Wonderful Life, Sleeping Beauty, A Christmas Carol, and Grease. It is a very small theater, with limited seating. They sell light refreshments, such as candy & water. I just recently saw, Beauty and the Beast and it was fantastic! They numbers were amazingly executed and the acting was top notch. I can't wait to come and see their next production Elf!

The seating was perfect; the theater was clean; and the sound was fantastic. It was certainly different having those types of movie-theater like seats for a concert, but, due to the calming nature of the two musicians, it still worked. However, there were definitely patrons that were treating it like a loud, standing room venue that were animatedly talking throughout most of the show. Despite their distractions, it was another excellent experience!

The facility has excellent parking. There's also street and municipal parking. Lots of police presence in the area. Lots of great restaurants within steps of this venue. In fact, we had stopped for a great dinner at Gaslight Brewery.

I randomly came across the read-through of TRAD on their website, and booked tickets online (free - but you can also donate what you wish). It was a neat experience and would recommend it!

I am a big fan of Luna and I financially support them but &SONS is a miserable show and an insult to the audience. It is amateurish, booring and both loud at times and too low to hear the characters dialogue at others. This show could have been better presented as a very short 5-10 play and nothing would have been lost. Luna has a pay what you want policy which is great but this time I wish it was a pay after you view the show.

When my daughter wanted to start tap lessons, she was a little older than most kids and she didn't want to be in a beginner class with all 6 year olds.  BPA had a beginner adult/teen class that was perfect.  She learned so much with Mark in one year she skipped a level the next year. My daughter loved it here so much she would get up early on Saturdays to help out as an assistant in a dance class for the little kids before her own ballet class. Elisa and Mark are professionals from Broadway, TV and film so they are very talented and are excellent teachers but also have a warm and fun environment.   My daughter is in college now training to be an actor and I know Elisa and Mark's teaching and encouragement helped her make it to college

The Historic Bellevue was this year's venue for the Montclair Film Festival from 10/17- 10/26. This three screened theater has recently reopened to full operation. On 10/31/25, we came to see "Blue Moon" starring Ethan Hawke. (Bravo to a stellar performance by Mr. Hawke). The theatre was very clean. Seating appears to be new, but was uncomfortable . It was advertised as reclining, but that wasn't the case. A small concession stand is located in the theatre. Street and municipal lot parking is available. Just be sure, you have enough time available for your metered spot. There's always a roving parking attendant. I'm not sure if this theatre will be able to compete with the full service larger theatres. However, I think a lot of older neighborhood people will enjoy coming back here.
