I was here last weekend to view The Beekeeper. The stadium theater itself is fine - obviously they have stadium style seating. A big plus for me. It was a nice sized theater although my companion who was seeing a separate film at the same time had his theater changed on him without notice and it was into a much smaller room, so staff ended up handing out free ticket comps to patrons in that theater. The front desk was not in use. Instead, a sign was placed directing your to place your ticket orders at the concession stand. As it was early, not much was started and honestly, it was a bit bare. The fountain machines were not working. I will say however that they fried up some hot, delicious chicken wings. It was better than I ever expected and it was fresh. Bathrooms were clean as the theater had just opened. Staff was nice enough. I would bring my family here for an early show to avoid having to hike it over to AMC Jersey Gardens. It's not my first choice, but it would do because of how easy it is to get here. read more

The best thing about this theater is the popcorn. I just recently went there to watch the Spider-Man movie with my kids and it felt like they had the air conditioner on 30° in the theater. I went again this past Sunday and I'm not sure how they F***** this up, but the was no music playing in the movie, all we could hear was them talking. Drove from Bayonne to this theater to see "Gimme Shelter". This was the only theater showing this movie within a 50 mile radius. I realized after watching the movie that a lot of the movie was filmed in the area of Newark, the Oranges and Essex County in general. So it would make sense that if anyone was showing the movie it would be City Plex 12 Newark. They have their own private parking lot and one can tell that the structure is fairly new. The inside of the main lobby is pretty spacious with super high ceilings. They have an arcade room with a few machines for one's entertainment while waiting. Again, everything in this place is brand new and fresh. The seats in our specific theater were comfortable. Floors were clean. The employees we dealt with were OK. We did not try any of the concession offerings but it looked pretty standard: popcorn, nachos, hot dogs, candy. There is an Applebee's accross the street as well for a quick bite or drinks befpre or after I wouldn't go out of my way from Bayonne to come here if a movie is being offered closer but I would not have a problem returning for an exclusive movie. read more

I was a little hesitant because everything in Newark is always pack, fights break out and we were kidless for the day (I was raised in Newark) i went in the morning to watch Avengers endgame since everywhere else was sold out and surprisingly it was empty and clean. A couple of families but kids kept quiet. Cons: the room smelled funny but it was raining outside so that might have been it. Most people over look this spot so when a hot movie comes out I always come here because your guaranteed to see it and have an actual seat! This is why I prefer to avoid this theater: I went here June 17, 2018 and was waiting for almost 5 minutes to be serviced. I had to ask the gentleman behind the counter who was helping another customer (mean while a young lady who was also behind the counter, unoccupied) "where is the concession line? Are they servicing anyone right now?" The young man replies, "she's going to help you right now miss". Then the same young lady who was just standing there finally walks up to the register and says, "I can help someone over here" (mind you, I'm the only patron standing there). I began to take my order, "Can I get a medium size pop-" "what size?!".....(I start over again) "Can I get a medium size popcorn?" So she cuts me off & talking over me as I'm trying to give my order. I asked for a hot dog, they didn't have any ready. I asked for a cherry flavored ICEE, it was broken. I had to wait 15 minutes for my hot dog. Then when I got the Blue ICCEE flavored drink, she put the straw behind the counter, so I can't even see it and asked where the straw is and she damn near flung it on top of the other food I ordered(med. Popcorn & nachos). So I come back after getting my seats to get my son's hot dog. Of course, she plops it down on the countertop. When your attitude & customer service is that disgusting, just stay home. Who wants to bring their child to a movie theater & have to endure all these microaggressions & unprofessionalism? It really spoils the atmosphere before I even sit down to watch the film. What the heck Cityplex? Who is managing this place? No hot dogs on the heating grill & it's only 1pm in the afternoon? Where's the structure? It's like they're letting kids run the concession stand. It's disorganized. You can clearly see the supplies of the buns, boxes that belonged to other items all on the floor behind the counter.....smh They should be there hours before the theater opens setting up & stocking supplies & maybe 20 mins before the matinee showing prepping/warming the hot foods, hot dogs, nachos in small batches just to avoid wasting food but to have some available for efficiency sake. The actual ticket counter was out of order. You had to buy your tickets at the concession stand counter. It's so many deficiencies w/ this place. It's turning into a dump. This was a terrible experience. I usually prefer to patronize local/black owned establishments, however I have been continuously disappointed when I come here. Originally I was going to give this live theatre 2 stars, but it's not AWFUL, just not up to date. The seats don't recline, the popcorn isn't that great. I came on a school holiday so they should've been prepared for a crowd even though there wasn't one. It seemed like there were 4 employees working... and they were ALL moving SLOW AS HECK ! There was no sense of urgency or care. The box office was closed and even though I purchased my tickets online, I had to wait on the concessions line... for a second time to show them my confirmation information to get the tickets. Like I said before, this theatre isn't HORRIFIC, just mediocre. I don't see myself coming back here. Oh, but they DO have a convenient parking lot that's always a plus. read more

The last time I went there, I say "42" and I liked how spacious the cinema was for the film and how friendly the staff was. The clientele is not the most appealing on certain nights (a lot of young rowdy kids) but it is clean, safe and near an AppleBees. I loved that the place was empty when we arrived...there were plenty of seats (leather) and it was very clean. We had purchase group tickets and popcorn vouchers prior to arriving with our clients so check in was pretty easy. The staff were very helpful, polite and professional. I would definitely recommend this theater to others. read more

It's nice inside. I remember when it used to be Newark Screens, lol.. it's really come a long way lol. Every time when I come, where you're supposed to get your tickets at, it's always closed and I have to go by the concessions stand to get the tickets. I hope they change it back to how it was before. People may get confused and think that the concessions is crowded when it's actually the ticket line that's crowded. Favorite theater is SHAQ's theater. I like this place they did a nice job with decor and they keep it clean. The seats are good, the concession is you standard movie items. There are a lot of young teenagers in there but I haven't had a bad experience with them talking and ruining the movie.I have been here a few times since it is the closest to the house. Ashley was at the counter and my God she had the most disgusting attitude I have ever seen in a service industry. As I approached, she appeared to be ahuffling around some 3d glasses. I patently waited but she acted as if she couldnt see me dispite being two feet away. So I said hello and asked for my tickets, this is when the attitude really came out. She handed me childrens 3d glasses....I asked her for the right one and she kept audibly sucking her teeth repeatedly. So, sal, who presented himself as a manager, however redused to disclose his whole name asked her for them. She sucked her teeth at him flicked her hair and walked away. Sal ended up getting the proper glasses. Its a ok theater, usually clean, and staff is usually better, but this person really needs to be fired. read more

Not a bad place. It's owned by Shaq (if you didn't know, then you'll know once you walk in and see shiny murals of him everywhere). There weren't a lot of crazy teenagers or riff raff, but we went on Sunday (Valentines) around 4pm, so that may explain why it was calm. I know others have mentioned that it gets a little wilder on weekends, so it may have been the timing. Went on Valentines to see Deadpool, and they gave all the ladies a rose. It was a nice clean theatre, and not overly expensive. The seats were very comfy and recline nicely. The popcorn was kind of messy (small kernels), but nothing to complain about. It just gets everywhere when you cram it into your mouth ;) It's centrally located, and the area is definitely building up, so you really don't have to worry about your cars. There's an Applebees across the street along with a decent grocery store, so you could have dinner and a movie and some shopping done in the same night. The ONLY complaint I had was the idiot parents who brought their toddler and baby to go see Deadpool, and let the little darlings cry and make noises. I'm kind of surprised they were even allowed in, but genius parenting at it's finest. Oh well. The rest of the theatre were united against the crap parents, so there was some peace and unity in Newark! read more

I regularly visit the movie theater at this location. I've never had any serious problems. One time it had not been cleaned before the new customers showed up. I heard of a bed bug infestation but never witnessed it myself. Today October 22,2019 I purchased two tickets for the 11:55a showing of Gemini Man in theater 10. My friend noticed a mouse climbing up the seat next to her. COMPLETELY disgusting and unprofessional. When I spoke to the young lady at the concession stand,she said that the manager was aware of the issue. And the staff recommended he shut down the theater and exterminate properly. Apparently he has refused to do so. My friend is terrified of rodents so we had to leave mid movie. It is EXTREMELY unsanitary. The mice carry germs that can be harmful to our wellbeing. I cannot frequent that theater any longer due to this. I am completely and utterly disappointed because that was one my favorite movie theaters. read more

I know the summer is ending but that doesn't mean for the standards to drop. I came to see Fantastic Four and the place was deplorable. The concession stand was dirty and the condiments area was filthy. It was filled with spilled popcorn amd it was sticky. I don't know if there is a manager on duty at the time but those conditions are unacceptable. The theater I went to (Room 6) had no working air conditioner. And the place was a mess..I don't understand why they didn't show the movie in another room...smh. I know after every movie, the room is supposed to be cleaned but no one came to clean here and we sat in filth. There were spilled popcorn all over the floor..Cups and garbage left on the floor and on the seats. One grandmother and her grandson didn't know where to sit..I come here often and I was embarrassed at the conditions of this place. STEP IT UP...SMH read more

I have lived in Newark a couple of years but hadn't get to this movie theater yet, but went today with my mom and my young daughter. It's a great theater, nice interior, not too crowded, comfortable seats. I was most impressed however with the friendliness of the staff. In particular, we had an issue with one of the arcade games eating a token, and an employee replaced our token and gave us a couple extra so my daughter could play one more game, which delighted her beyond belief. we will definitely go back! This theater has become a major part of why I don't completely mind living in Newark. A ten minute bus ride or a half an hour walk from downtown, I come here at least once or twice a month especially since it's a welcome respite from extravagant NYC movie theater prices. They have cheap matinee tickets, special deals on Tuesday evenings and on other random days, and they always have the latest movies like a good theater should. At first, I was not impressed by this theater because it kind of smelled and it was virtually empty. But now, people actually come here and it's become a highly enjoyable place to go! read more

This theater is in my neighborhood and I haven't had a bad experience. but what annoyed me is n't interaction with the manager who wasn't honest. I purchased a ticket to see Birth of a Dragon. this movie is complete trash go to imdb and read the reviews! I wanted a refund or a free pass and the manager told me if I watch more than 30 minutes of the movie I wasn't able to receive a refund OR a free pass.... sounded like something he made up and I will be contacting someone else. I think business and those managing these businesses should treat customers as they would want to be treated, plain and simple. I go here often because I live locally. I enjoy the movies. But I try to stay away from the women's restroom. I think there are four sinks. Only one of them has running water. There are four soap dispensers and only one of them work. And the hand dryers. Ah forget it. They work intermittently. read more

This will be the first and last time I come to this theatre. I had wanted to see the movie Upgrade after work. When I arrived shortly after 5:00 pm and placed my order using my MoviePass app, the clerk card the clerk mistakenly included a separate order for popcorn and a drink on the same card, which is well known only was made for tickets. I chalked it to human error. She deleted the excess orders.The card came back declined. I attempted to cancel the order and re-order to no avail. I showed the vendors the movie history and the recent order of Upgrade (which is still there as of this edit.). I was rudely asked to please step aside and was ignored for a while and the line was non-existent. No attempt was made to help me for a good 15/20 minutes to assist me and it didn't help that I also couldn't get MoviePass on the phone (a thing that has not been an issue for me.) I kept showing my Upgrade purchase but nope, I was ignored, and only at the very start of the promos did someone come out, look at the card, and then tell me to wait two days for a refund because the system "wasn't showing it." Basically, I had to miss my showing and am pretty incensed at that; I have had next to no issues in other theaters. I use this card frequently; no problems until now. I'm very disappointed at the poor customer service or at least an attempt to resolve the issue. It doesn't bode well that there was some homeless situation in the lobby and it was in itself a mess. Wow. I purchased my movie ticket quickly using my student discount. Very nice clean movie theatre. The butter dispenser is self serve so I made my popcorn Extra buttery. I overall enjoyed the movie, theatre and snacks. I will be sure to visit cityplex again for the latest movie showings. read more
