Acupuncture was new to me and I chose Acusage Therapy based on reviews.I have had problems with my neck and sciatica for several years. I was recommended to Chris by a coworker to see him for the troubles I was facing for which I had no resolve. I am 26 and have been through 4 major foot surgeries since I was 19 yrs old. The last one I had done in April 2016 had some complications that I was never told about by my doctor, resulting in me being in excruciating pain for a year since surgery, with a swollen 5th toe and side of that foot 99% of the time. It affected my life majorly; I work full time as a Veterinary Technician, which requires me to be on my feet for more than 10 hrs a day sometimes, without sitting, and I was in such pain that I would cry and end up sitting down and do paperwork or anything else that required me not to stand, squat, or even walk and perform my actual job; it killed me. I couldn't go out hiking with friends, take my dog for a walk for more than 15 minutes and needing to sit down from the pain, or even sleep at night from the throbbing discomfort. I can't take ibuprofen of any kind because of my ulcerative colitis issue, so there were limited options for me on pain relief that were safe for me to use. Icing was my "only option" given to me by my old doctor. I scrapped him and saw 2 orthopedists who both diagnosed me with the worst, irreversible osteoarthritis they've ever seen, where 2 of my toe bones are constantly scraping against each other when I walk because I have no joint space, secondary also to avascular necrosis (basically, my toe bone lost blood supply, due to damage during surgery, and looks "eaten away" and brittle). The options I was given to relieve my pain were either do nothing and see if i can live with it, or 4 options of surgery: fuse my toe together, place an artificial joint, cut out the "dead" metatarsal, or the extreme, amputation of the toe altogether. I was very hesitant of a 5th foot surgery and all the complications that came with them, and became even more uncomfortable when both orthopedists expressed being hesitant about even wanting to go in there and mess with my already brittle pinky toe. So, i decided to do nothing and just accept I would be in pain for the rest of my life.... until I was recommended to see Chris. On my first visit at the beginning of the year or so, I explained to Chris my issues with my foot, and my other health issue with my ulcerative colitis. He listened very intently and examined me and came up with a plan that suited my predicament. He did acupuncture, chinese therapy, and massage therapy on my foot, 3 times a week, for almost 2 months or so, and would send me home with traditional chinese techniques and some physical therapy exercises and stretches to practice at home on my foot as well. After the first week of therapy, I noticed a difference right away! I went home and for the first time, I noticed the swelling on the side of my foot where my pinky toe is finally looked better, and I could wiggle my pinky toe! I was NEVER able to do that for almost 3 yrs since the first surgery i had on that left foot. After 2 weeks, I noticed I had more range of motion and swelling was now completely gone because of Chris working the scar tissue down in my toe and side of my foot, which got easier with easier and less painful with each session. By a month, I was able to sleep through the night pain free and stay on my feet a full days work at my job without being in agonizing pain.The turning point for me was when I squatted down on that foot at home to pick up something I had dropped, not realizing I put most of my weight on the bum foot instead of the right one I always depended on. When I got up and realized what I did, and I didn't fall over in pain, I did it again, and stayed squatted on that foot for a good minute or 2, and I cried because that was something so simple that I never dreamed I could do again without Chris's help. After 2 1/2 - 3 months of seeing Chris, and weaning down my sessions to twice a week, then once a week, to every other week, I have been "excruciating pain free" ever since. I have my bad days here and there with my arthritis acting up with an extra long day at work or the bad weather and season change. but NEVER like the pain I was in since last April, and never have been. Chris works with you and your needs and has the kindest heart; he truly does care for his patients. With his help, and glucosamine/chondroitin pills I take twice daily, I have now been able to go hiking again, practice yoga, wear certain shoes more comfortably, stand on my feet at work and actually be able to perform at my job, and sleep through the night without waking up every half hour to cry in pain. Even though I know he cannot cure or reverse what has happened to me, he has surely helped me become comfortable in my daily routine and live my life and enjoy it like I had once been, helped me to avoid life changing surgery, and also helped me emotionally as well and be happy again, and do the job I love. read more
