When I saw this Greenway Path on AllTrails, I absolutely had to try it. I started out at the High line at Hudson Yards and it went great for a good portion, but then I hit a lot of construction and detours. I also got sidetracked with Yelp food adventures. I ended up doing 38 miles, but not the intended full Greenway path. I did see a lot of construction for the path and I am absolutely excited for the day when the path is completed and I can do it continuously. I will pack food so I won't get sidetracked. Absolutely incredible that the city is investing in this project that can be enjoyed by all. Please come and create your own adventure. read more

One of the must beautiful parks in NYC, maybe even USA. 1) You can see an amazing view of One Trade Tower and the surrounding area. 2) The view of NJ, such as Jersey City & Hoboken is amazing. 3) Lots of piers like Pier 25 and Pier 26 are beautiful. read more

NYC Greenway Path is a great place to walk along the Hudson River and take in the views. You have nature and public art with small businesses thrown into the atmosphere. I always enjoy my day walking and taking photos. There's historic landmarks and lots of new construction. I've walked this pathway many many times and didn't know it had a name. The walkways are clean. The area wasn't overly congested with people when I've been here. I did have trouble finding a restroom. I can't remember where I found one the last time I was walking here. Keep that in mind when you go. Enjoy the views, wear comfortable shoes, and get your exercise! read more

I'd notice a bike path along the West Side Hwy every time my dad drove down this way back in '82. And if you know a thing or two about this strip, it was home to anything and everything- unlike what is seen today. That same bike path evolved with the times and 'beautified'. Since hubs and I have never been on this path, we took advantage of our free time to take some of it on a Saturday afternoon. We logged in some walking steps and ran on the path along the West Side Hwy starting on 10th up to 22nd St then used the concrete-paver tile path esplanade (which you can run also) next to the Hudson River giving you spectacular views to head down. There are a ton of places to sit or lay your blanket anywhere on the lawn to give you that unique setting- even have a nosh at the Drift In restaurant which I was eyeing. I almost feel you're getting the most action from both ends- in one place. Whether it's a biking workout is what you're after, this is any cyclist's paradise. But if you want to still catch your run AND rest a bit on the grassy area, this is a great outdoor destination and water is included. read more

One of my fave spots to run and walk along the Hudson River on the west side of Manhattan. Spectacular views, places to sit and relax, spots to get your fitness on, and areas to have a bite on a pier. I've run it from as far up as the George Washington Bridge down to Battery Park. On a sunny day it's a terrific excursion. Never gets old. read more

A place to stop by and enjoy the views of the Hudson River. There is a long pathway walk to sit or walk along the Hudson River. This actually goes all the way to battery park area. You will see so many people walking, jogging or skateboarding. A good place to exercise actually as there is a nice breeze. I would so enjoy exercising here!! Along the path, there are small parks for kids, a few tennis and basketball courts and a skateboarding area. They offer so many benches to sit on. It's was nice to just sit and relax. They have a few places to use the bathroom if needed, too. Just a really nice place to see NYC and its beauty. I really enjoyed the views. A must see when you are in New York. read more

NYC Greenway Path - Parks Near Me

If this trail was one long continuous trail, I could write just one review, but I have to review everything from top to bottom. I normally ride this trail and cross the GW bridge. I like this section of the path because it's pretty vacant compared to the rest of the trail toward Midtown and Lower Manhattan. Last week I biked to the very top of the trail way past the GW bridge, and you should be careful if there are leaves all over the place. They are slippery when wet, and even if they're not, any emergency braking will cause you to fall. It's a great workout and a nice walk to get some exercise and fresh air. read more

Nothing but love. The NYC Greenway Path (Hudson River Greenway- East River Greenway) is beautiful - I mean, really beautiful. I would say the ride from Battery Park and up along the West Side Highway is so breathtaking that I find myself muttering, "New York City is beautiful" every five minutes. It really is. Everything seems possible when you are riding along this stretch. The more you ride, the more you realize what a fantastic life you live as a cyclist in New York- with a bevy of pathways, lanes, roads and routes, filled with grit (East River Greenway) and glory (West Side- Hudson River Greenway). The NYC Greenway path portrays the best of New York City - within reach of fabulous shops and eateries if you ride one block off the path- and outside concerts, indoor/ outdoor activities (such as the Seaport, the Trapeze School and Chelsea Piers), the views of every pier associated with the Piers of Hudson Valley and tranquil night rides (unless you're on the East Side stretch). The best part of this pathway is that it leads up to either the George Washington Bridge so that you may continue to ride in NJ, or, on the East Side, to the 59th Street Bridge to Queens. This path is called different names...I know it as the Hudson River Greenway, but the signs from Dyckman Street called it the Empire State Greenway...just know they are one in the same. If you are entering from Dyckman Street, do not enter the path closest to the river, that is a short path that leads nowhere and I believe it is called Fort Tryon bike path (it goes by the Inwood Canoe Club). (FYI, There is a bike store on Dyckman Street). And there are CITI bikes on Dyckman for rent. I biked the Greenway on Saturday 4/24, in perfect weather, from Dyckman St to Battery Park. I came down from New Haven, exited off 9A onto Dyckman, and parked in closest garage (1 block off exit). It could not have been simpler. I had no idea most of the path had peds separated and that was a pleasant surprise! There are enough bathrooms along the way so not too bad for those of us with weak bladders. I have zero complaints about the width or condition of the path, this is FREE and made possible by efforts of many! Appreciate it! I haven't ridden a bike seriously in years, and somehow, I made it the 13 miles to Battery Park and back to Dyckman Street. Just be prepared unless you go off path for serious void of places to buy food, I guess that is due to COVID restrictions? I was expecting food trucks and vendors along the way. The only downside....are the other bikers....zero courtesy to call out when they are passing (must be same people that do the TD Bank 5 Boro ride). A bike mirror is a must to see what is coming behind you. I was grazed many times. Thankfully I have a nice lawyer waiting in case one of you clowns collides with me. read more

This awesome path is perfect for biking or running. It is a great way to run or bike on the water. Taking the west side path north is scenic and calming. There are a couple of hills, but nothing too insane. It is a good example of how beautiful our city can be. read more

Among the best New York views. I recommend coming here around sunset, where you get both a beautiful view of downtown with the World Trade Center reflecting the sunlight as well as Jersey City and Hoboken, separated by the Hudson River. Fantastic. The piers extend outward pretty far. It's a very active area but not touristy. There is a green strip that runs along the periphery of the island in this area where pedestrian walkways are separate from the bike lanes, which in turn are separated from automobile traffic. It's very nice. From certain areas you can also see the tall buildings of Midtown. read more

The Greenway Path is a walking/biking path. It's separated into the Hudson River Greenway and the East River Greenway. The Hudson River Greenway is much more continuous and maintained path. I haven't gone on the East River Greenway but I hear there are a lot breaks and merges. For the purposes of the review I'm just talking about the Hudson River Greenway. The path goes from Dyckman St (past Fort Tryon Park in the Inwood section of Manhattan) to Battery Park (the bottom tip of Manhattan). It's about 11 or so miles long and goes through Riverside Park, the Hudson River Park, and Battery Park City. It's the most traveled Bike path in the country and is perfectly maintained and a perfect place for a bike ride or walk. Another highlight of the path is that it goes below the George Washington Bridge where you'll also see Jeffrey's Hook Lighthouse (aka Little Red Lighthouse). The lighthouse was built in 1880 and used in Sandyhook, NJ until 1917 and was used at it's present location on the Hudson river from 1921 to 1947. The lighthouse is registered in the National Register of Historic Places. read more

Official name is Manhattan Waterfront Greenway. We usually bike the Hudson River path from Hell's Kitchen to uptown. The East side path is undergoing construction and is not as nice a ride. If you want to feel like a kid again and reconnect with water, trees, birds, this is a must. Jump on your bike (or rent one--there's a rental place near the 60's) and savor. We love to bike to the little red light house at the GW Bridge and there are great picnic stops along the way. Plus, the park is abundant with tennis courts, little leaguers, kayakers and a bunch of activities you would never imagine in Manhattan. I love, love, love to bike up and down this greenway, with the Hudson River side being more my fave than the still mainly rough and undeveloped and under construction East River Greenway. You can stop along the way, enjoy the view, pack a lunch and eat it, play some mini golf by the Chambers St. Piers, hop back on your bike and cruise by the waters again. In the summer, you can ride by gorgeous planted flowers and even catch the scent from roses planted all along the path. From Chambers down to BPC it can get very crowded on a nice spring or fall day. Just be sure to obey traffic signals; I've noticed more and more police and was told by a fellow biker they are out there ticketing bikers who pass stop signs, red lights and don't yield to pedestrians. Make sure your bike has a bell. There are plenty of pedestrians on the shared paths who think nothing of walking 4 across on a bike lane! Note for those who don't bike but jog or walk: the path from BPC to Houston and even 14th street is nice and safe in the night. After dark, anything north on the Hudson River side does not feel that safe and is not scenic when walking. read more

This path runs along the Hudson River from Dyckman Street all the way to Battery Park then they have the East River Greenway. I have only done the Hudson river path. It very nice they have plenty of picnic areas along the route, place for you and the whole to sit have a picnic or just look out at the Hudson river. They also have free kayaking at certain points of the route I think the hours for that is Saturday and Sunday 10am- 5pm. They also have a plenty of rest stops even a few restaurants along with all the usual tourist attractions. I got plenty of cool pictures of the George Washington Bridge too. Wow, NYC, in June, on beautiful day, along the water. Pretty glorious. We attempted to get rental bikes from a shop at Christoper St-ish but the shop was closed due to the Pride Parade so we hopped on the Citibikes and started moving South. We got a day pass and It worked out fine, as we made it to about the WTC area in about the 30 minute (max allowed time) and swapped them out for new ones at another Citibike stand right on the path. Continued down through Battery Park and went past the Gov's Island Ferry a bit. Grabbed lunch at Shake Shack on Fulton, hit Century 21 and the 9/11 memorial, etc. A good morning of activity. Next time we will def plan to bike further north along both sides of Manhattan. read more

I tried to bike all of this with my husband today. We started in Inwood, got down and around and back up to 125th. I will spare you my internal monologue which somehow encompassed me singing a KT Tunstall song over and over again as we pedaled along. Sadly, we couldn't complete our journey because the path ended at 124th on the east side. We had to cut across 120th and made it to the A stop at 125th. Very crowded on this beautiful Saturday on the west side from the 80s to 14th and then again on the east side around Gracie Mansion. People still need to learn to read the path markings to know what side to stay on, but as I've always said when you are a biker, you hate pedestrians and cars, when you are a pedestrian, you hate cars and bikes, and when you are a driver, you hate pedestrians and bikers. read more

This is a pretty decent place to ride your bike. Not paved as nicely as the West Side Highway Bike Path, but still nice and the views of the water and GW Bridge are fantastic. There is definitely less traffic in terms of people getting in your way on this path as well. Great for a solid bike ride with some hills and some zig and zags to mix it up a bit. I wouldn't really feel safe riding this alone around dusk though - there are definitely some shady parts to ride through. read more

My family and I biked on this path today and it was wonderful. My wife and I live in NYC for 30+ years and this is the first time we bike here. The view is beautiful. There are many piers along the way where you can enjoy the great views and rest. The pavement is in good condition and is a fairly easy trail for beginners. Looking forward to go back. read more

My trips usually begin on West 207th street, home to a Dominican paradise and a short distance away from La Marina, where partygoers flood down the avenues up to the Hudson River to see if rapper Fabolous's 2014 hit song "Cuffin' Season"'s lyrics (You gon' be at La Marina all summer) live up to the hype of the outdoor venue. So if you plan on taking a similar route on a Sunday, keep a steady path on the bike line to and don't break your neck while mesmerized by the half naked women that walk by. When entering my Dyckman route which begins atop a spiral stairway and paralleled by the West Side Highway, expect a relaxed ride for a few miles of a 1/2 steady incline and decline pavement. The pavement is pretty smooth with a few sections of occasional bumps and cracks that look like they were caused by a weak smash of Thor's hammer. It's nothing too crazy that will send you flying over the edge Angry Birds style. Midway during this steady route there's a short narrow path literally called "Narrow Path" that might inject a little fear of the "what if" factor in your mind. All it takes are 2 wild speed racers ready to play "chicken" to make it to the ER. These few miles offer the opportunity to eventually exit and jump on the GWB to New Jersey, but stay on course, and you'll find a few nice moments to stop, get your Instagram on, or profess your love to a date. There's notably a Greece-like old structure draped in leaves overlooking the Hudson River that's hard to miss and is usually occupied by a photographer or couple getting their mojo on. The few miles on this initial path lead to a steep decline and spiral down to the park which immediately offers a cool view of the GWB. For these next few miles begins an interesting change in scenery, both cultural and structural, all with a mostly steady flat surface. The open area offers opportunities to take a break and enjoy or partake in a game of handball, basketball, and even volleyball (scattered about). In addition, there's usually a host of families and friends hosting barbeques. These BBQ days are packed, especially on weekends. Just the other day I thought I was at a parade.. at 8pm. I find myself having to hit the breaks plenty of times to avoid hitting people, especially children that apparently don't need leashes. Personally, I enjoy the access to being by Hudson shore. For some, that revolves revolve around reading a book to smoking weed or hookah. I've even seen jet skis go by. What the hell? The few miles of barbeques and party time in open space are eventually confined by Riverbank State Park, where a smooth path with a wide running/walking lane awaits. This is my "go to" midpoount of getting turnt up with my portable speakers and letting some Linkin Park or Diplo guide me into Harlem. Once in Harlem, I occasionally detour a little bit around the docks overlooking more of the river. Here, you can entertain yourself with good views on a bench or watch an upcoming hip hop artist and his posse emulate the typical rap video by a section that seems to have become a designated go to film location. Continuing on to the greenway is a relatively short, yet narrow and uphill path once again paralleled by the WS Highway. As the path widens, the route offers more opportunities to detour and relax in the grass or further down on the rocks by the water. I recount at least 8 large flat stones that are coincidentally or intentionally placed below to lay back on. It's a great way to get your zen on or keep a summer tan going. It can also be romantic, but I won't paint a picture of what that could lead to. Wink wink. Heading down to around 72nd street, the path becomes wider, mixed with pedestrians and bicyclists. A boat basin, restaurant, and kayaking section are few notable different attractions, but never get too comfortable leaving your bike alone. Lock and strap those bikes because there's always some creep watching and waiting to snatch your beloved bicycle. Staying on course down to Chelsea provides more of a smooth experience, but the path does become a bit more crowded. There are more bicyclists, more pedestrians, and a lot of tourists that lack the aggressiveness or awareness to avoid crashing. Get off those damn MTA bikes! You can however, expect more bike racks, more docks, and more places to eat along the way. I've yet to go further, so hopefully I've provided a decent idea of what to expect leading up to that. I think the Hudson River Greenway can be a great alternative to train transportation that can be just as fast depending on where you're going. In addition, why be among a crowd of stressed passengers and amateur street dancers that come inches away from kicking you in the face with pole flips? More importantly, why not get a great workout in? The ride can also be highly therapeutic and remind you that New York is not all just noise and repetition. Embrace a little discovery. read more

A lot of work has been done to the pathway at certain areas alongside the path. Skateboard parks near the financial district and playgrounds and volleyball courts. More green parks, piers, concerts, art, and food stalls as well as restaurants. Absolutely great for running, biking, roller blading, skateboarding or whatever you fancy. Four stars instead of five because there are not enough signs. Up alerting tourists and idiots alike that the bike path is not for cogregating. It's really not for walking either. There is a separate walking path. I would love to see a painted line that runs the length of the path that is clearly marked for pedestrians only. This would make it much easier. Sure, there would still be idiots who can't read, don't care or don't pay attention, but would be a step in the right direction. Like the person who spray painted "Keep to the right" along the path. read more
