My favorite park in the area. A great place for some exercise, fun with kiddos at the playgrounds, or a full on picnic with the extended family. And believe it or not, I've done all the above. It's brought such joy to us. Especially love the fact that it has a bathroom that is usually maintained. And walking along the pond is a nice and relaxing way to get the muscles moving, especially when pregnant. I've taken many a walks here when I was preggers with my kiddos, who are now bog fans of the playground and park (and the turtles and ducks) in general. This could and should easily be five stars with its big beautiful lake, plenty of paths, playgrounds, bocce court, tennis courts, Korean war memorial.. there is lots to love in this park. Unfortunately the city has not been maintaining it properly - the paths throughout the park are literally crumbling with chunks of asphalt all over with many spots usually have puddles or mud from recently dried up water that doesn't drain properly. The guardrails around parts of the lake are crumbling into the water. It simply does NOT make sense to me how or why the NYC parks department and local politicians let things get to this point - no money? people not doing their jobs? mismanagement? all the above? This park is used by thousands of people daily - it should not be like this. We deserve better. Do better NYC! read more

Went here for a picnic and stroll and had a great time with my dog. It can get crowded in some areas around the pond but the park is pretty well maintained. Also, the bathroom isn't that clean so avoid if you can. Overall, it was relaxing and you can always find an area that isn't crowded. Definitely will be back sometime to explore the trails. read more

Walking through Kissena Park is a nice surprise. I didn't realize that such a tranquil gem existed thirty minutes away from me. Walking around for an hour, I felt I saw the majority of the park and got a great feel for what it had to offer. First, parking on a Saturday was suspiciously easy right on Booth. Second, walking through was so quiet, with random bouts of people playing horns or songs on the radio, which was welcome. Third, the park is so clean! And fourth, there are lovely bird sounds in every corner, so much so that there are birdwatchers perched throughout the park observing, recording, and filming! Kissena Park is so pretty and has a good amount to offer right in our backgrounds. Wandering here is really a feast for the eyes, and it's so accessible. There are vast amounts of space that all look so different from one another. Highly recommend you go and explore the walking trails for some R&R. read more

I really love this park. I feel Like it's kept clean and it's peaceful and serene. I love walking around the duckpond. It's loaded with turtles. The swans that visit sometimes and lots of geese. My first time at this park in a very long time. It's a pretty decent sized park that sits between the LIE and Northern Blvd. There are a few entrances and parking isn't too bad around the park depending on the time of day and during the week. The park has a bunch of features and options depending on what you want to do. Enjoy a picnic, stroll thru some trails and walkways, sports and there's a decent sized pond as well where you can fish. There's a pretty decent sized bathroom building by the main entrance as well. I didn't use it but it did look like it was maintained properly. read more

I love this Kissena Park. I live across Kissena Park. It is wonderfully kept. My only issue is that there is someone that works at the park who is maliciously cutting down trees, that are being planted with permission by the park representatives in honor of the passing of a relative. In this case my Mother. The same person has purposely gone around the surrounding trees, but cut down my mother's three 3x. It breaks my heart. What is a park for but to lookat and walk among beautiful trees. We have already a tree for my father in law, mother in law, father, a second for my mother ,because the same person keeps on cutting the first tree down to a stump. However my mother's spirit won't let the tree die, it keeps coming back. STOP this person from cutting the tree. He is sneaky does it very early or when park is empty, near gate off Rose avenue, in front of hill going towards tennis courts, next to my father's and between her second tree. read more

I love to visit this park. Not only this park is only 2 blocks from my in-law's house, this place is huge. With a large park with lots of grass and trees, it has a nice walk/bike path. We normally walk on the path around the park and its a very good exercise. Within the walk path, there are tennis courts, basketball courts, softball fields and children's playgrounds. There is also a huge lake in the middle of the park. During the winter (like the time I am visiting now), the lake became frozen but I still would not walk on top of it. A lot of people are taking advantages of the park. We normally come to the park in the mornings, and you would see people gather in groups doing their exercises together. A log of people come with their dogs. Some people do not use leashes on their dogs, so I'd be careful if you plan on taking your dogs here. Good place to walk and hang out. Lots of park benches so you can sit down when you get tired. The park has a lot of entrenches so you can get in from different places. For the most part the park is kept in pretty good shape. The only downside is that no BBQ is allowed. read more

Kissena Lake brings beautiful views of geese, swans and turtles. Note: Park patrons do NOT feed wildlife animals in the lake and barbecuing is prohibited on Kissena Park grounds. While it is a lovely park that cultivates the Great Outdoor scenic views, it is indeed, heavily infested with insects. A Velodrome bike is available to stay fit. My go to park. The one I have been to the most. All around solid park, ton to explore. Lots of ducks, lake,and even basketball courts. I came here a ton during my college days to relax on days with no class. I loved coming during the winter as there were barely any people at all and a ton of seagulls and birds to just chill with. I remember playing basketball with completey random strangers , eating authentic Mexican tacos, Papa John's, etc. Alone near the big tree. Reading Rich Dad Poor Dad. When I lived a few blocks away, I would always come here for my late afternoon runs... This park is so beautiful and sometimes I just sit at one of the benches and just enjoy the sunshine and warmth! Families and the little kids walk/bike around the pond and sometimes have a small picnic area set up. Some families have little boats or do a little bit of fishing... I don't think it's very clean (the water is very dirty!) but whatever floats their boat! Just be very careful of the kiddies.. I've heard horror stories before that involves kids and fishing.... There's two different playgrounds side by side and sometimes you catch the ice cream truck pass by! read more

Not well maintained, tiny, full of unsanitary people that spit while they walk. Bathrooms smell horrible. Not enough trash cans or water fountains. Needs more benches. With that said, its the gathering spot for many people doing tai chi in groups, tennis players, joggers, love birds having a picnic, babies learning to walk, campers having a class, etc. I've had countless amounts of great memories made here. My family lives one block from this park. I don't usually hang out in Queens, but I am spending some time out here and needed to get a run in. If I don't run for a few days, I get extremely cranky and trust me, you don't want to be around me if I haven't gotten all sweaty and got my heart rate thu the roof. Haha. Just kididng. This morning, I walked with my mom to this park and I took off. This is a beautiful park with a small pond that is teeming with turtles. Can you believe it? Lot and lots of turtles. I love turtles. The turtles will come to the surface and there were so many people looking at them and fishing them. A lot of kids and families. It was fun to see all the people out. This is a great park to do a short run. The lap around the pond isn't that big, but you can take the small trails on the periphery and make your run longer. Lush beautiful green trees and Chinese people doing taichichuan are wonderful sights while you pant and sweat and pound the pavement. Wow, it felt so good! There also plenty of people out drawing, reading, walking, rollerblading, chatting, eating, walking dogs, playing with children. There is nothing like community and I am glad I to experience this on a beautiful Sunday morning. I'll be back to run in this park when I come see my family! read more

We wanted to spend some free time in the afternoon in Queens and our online search led us to Kissena Park. It's a very big park and we could spend some nice time here. There is a lake inside and many people were walking their dogs there. we found some playgrounds for kids. The place was mostly clean. Nice jogging // strolling // dog-walking trails!! There are a lot of areas in this park that are good for picnics. I noticed that certain areas are restricted for BBQs. There are some very nice sights, such as a little lake with a few ducks, swans, and turtles! There is a point of historical value when you come across a small monument for the veterans and fallen of the Korean War. Trust me, you'll love making the trek! Kissena Park is the reason that I was able to move to Flushing. Lived my life in Rural surroundings... came from Eastern Long Island where my door opened to the Great South Bay. I explored Flushing and found the beauty and solace of this Oasis . I knew that if I lived nearby where I could visit every day or two, I could make the move . This would be my connection to life that I needed, so I could Excel in the real world.( of cement and skyscrapers). Great park, really reminds me of a more local and convenient central park. Decently grand lake spot center in the middle of the park and enough animals to entertain the young ones. Even during the colder of seasons, human as well as wildlife are visible. Great place to jog as well as people watch. Lots of benches near blossoming flowers to give you thats scenic detailing for your morning if mid-afternoon newspaper read with a cup of joe. Parking is actually fairly easy since the residential area provides parking for locals, you have all the side and street parking for yourself. This park has become one of my favorite parks not only in Queens but in NYC but total accident. I went to Flushing, Queens one day when I was bummed out and depressed and decided to stuff my face with all the Asian cuisines and teas that Flushing has to offer (best Asian food in all of NYC I dare say). After finishing stuffing my face, I decided to just discover more of the Flushing area and something prompted me to just stay and walk along Kissena BLVD. And am I glad it did!! My emotions weren't perfect but the weather and the tranquility of the park was just exactly what I needed. Clear blue skies, bright sun and me getting lost in the trails of this park. I just got lost and enjoyed the peace and nature of the park that is a far cry from the cramped hustle and bustle that is down town Flushing. As I ventured through the trails, I found a velodrome, bocce courts, golf course,bike trails, soccer fields, baseball fields, kids park and a plethora of other sports that Kissena has open to it. After all the traveling, I finally ran into the lake and I was happy as can be. I decided to just lay down on the grass, and enjoy the people watching, the bird and animal watching and the simplistic beauty of this place. I napped near the lake till the sunset arise and wish I could rent space at this park instead of making my long trek back home. PROS: -Beautiful, quiet park, that host a plethora of activities to partake in -I've been to this park several times last summer and I noticed it never seems to get over crowded, at all. -The wild life is pretty surprising to come by. I seen bunnies, all sorts of species of birds and lots more -Lots of open space to lounge and have a picnic, date, just chill and unwind -Great hiking trails and paths -An NYC hidden gem CONS: -The trails can use some cleaning up and better maintenance. There's a little bit of litter. Nothing overwhelming but I hate to see any sort of litter at parks. -Can be pretty deep if you're not around the area or live out of the other boroughs. I recommend people to come here still, just don't ruin the beauty of the park. -The place can use a dog park. Some people don't pick up after their dogs Non-the-less, don't let any of the cons deter you from visiting this park. If I lived closer, I'd definitely make much more frequent trips over here. Even if you're from the outer boroughs, I recommend going to this park if you want to escape the crowd of Central Park and really get a peace of mind in the city. read more

This is my favorite park in the city, I grew up coming here and having really fond memories of it. It's incredibly beautiful and a decent size, with part of it left "wild" alongside basketball courts, handball courts, tennis courts, baseball diamonds, a bocce ball court, three playgrounds, a neighboring golf course, and a velodrome (bike track). There's a lake with ducks and turtles, sometimes you can even get lucky and see swans. I even still see people fishing. There are plenty of trails in the back of the park where you can often find interesting litter. It doesn't bother me because there aren't many beer cans or other boring debris, I've found everything from parking meters (included in the photos) to Japanese porcelain dolls. The park itself is also very hilly, there's so many different sections spaced out, with different landscaping styles. It's such a great space to spend time in, there a hill overlooking the sunset that is perfect for picnics and yoga, multiple stair cases that are great for working out, and smooth gravel around the lake for rollerblading. read more

A hidden gem in Queens, perfect for the family! Kissena park is a large park with several play grounds for children, a scenic jogging route, tennis courts, basketball courts, baseball field, a lot of open grass areas and most of all the beautiful lake. You'll see people of all ages exercising, running, playing, doing yoga, dancing, fishing, relaxing, walking their dog, cycling, you name it! There's something to do for everyone here. It's peaceful and quiet. Take your kids, your dog, your grandma, your family, or your significant other. You could even go by yourself and enjoy a peaceful afternoon with nature. I frequent this park since moving to Queens and it's never disappointed. In the summertime, I make it my jogging route and it's large enough that you would enjoy a constant change in scenery as you jog, as opposed to going around an oval track over and over. My daughter loves to come to the playground here since it's clean and well maintained, and there's 2 playgrounds she can choose from on opposite ends of the park. She could also decide to just play on the grass and run around the park if she'd get bored of the playground. Definitely a park in Queens worth checking out and exploring. read more

We have been passing through this park a lot of times in the past but never get the chance to stop by and stroll. High 70's and less humid temperature brought us here today. We were thinking of having a picnic right after work on a Friday afternoon to start our weekend right. Glad we did not. The park is not a suggested picnic place comparable to other Queens parks I had been to. Grounds were not maintained . I am not comfortable enough to lie down or relax and besides the space is limited and is right by the passers. There were benches in front of the lake that will be suitable for scenic viewing and there you could do a bite or so of your packed foods and drinks. You could do people watch too. Lots of interesting diverse strollers . The pond is dirty. There are geese, turtles and waterfowls that swim around in one corner. People are told not to feed them but still do. There is catch and release fishing area on the other end of the lake. Going around the lake is a good reason to walk. This is the best thing to do in this park. It is probably beautiful here during fall. Walking trails could be added to do things. The stairs going up to the second part of the park are inviting. A nice jogging path. Up there you'll see the tennis courts and a memorial park. Baseball fields and playgrounds are the other amenities of the park on the first ground. There are lot of entrances to be here. You wont miss it. What surprised us was the next door velodrome. As googled, it is the remaining velodrome in NY. There is a secret path to go there coming from the baseball field area. If you or your partner are into cycling, this is a good excuse too to come by. I would say the entire park itself is not properly maintained by the city park. Bushes, trees, grass, etc are not well groomed. Too bad, i heard it used to be neat and clean. read more

The trees are all different, the grass is fresh, the pond is full of turtles. I've seen people just straight up hugging trees here. There are a few dirt backroads that are hidden in a big field of tall weeds, and I've never made it all the way in. Last summer, I took my cousin out everyday and we would walk for hours exploring :) Trees are great for picnics, too. It really is a gorgeous park. There's no bustle, everything is quite serene. There's a Korean War memorial in one section of the park. Once in a while the pond's geese ducks will come close and they'll eat the purple flowers that grow in the grasses if you offer them. There's also this tiny court for bocce that a lot of the older and elderly people play at, and they're really into it :') read more

This park is very safe, very clean and has a lot of amenities. There are a couple different playgrounds, ball courts, walking trails and plenty of open fields. People are always there with their dog and the street parking surrounding the park is plentiful. This is my go-to park: an amazing "green" space among all the pollution, cars, and insane amounts of people you'd get anywhere else in NYC. Large enough where you aren't fighting and jostling with other people when you try to go around them. It's such a huge park, plenty of access points/entrances. It's very likely you could meander around and not run into the same person twice. As for parking, it's a highly residential area nearby, so just need to scope out a space. I usually can find a space right in front of the park on Rose Ave. I think there is a parking lot but further out and I usually don't bother trying to find it. Plenty of benches all over the park to sit and relax -- I've seen people eating their lunches or reading a book, to even doing their homework/studying. Some are shaded, some are in the open sunlight. Lots of grass space to sit down for a picnic and you won't really run into others, because you're spread out enough. Never hectic or loud and annoying. During the day when kids are in school, it's especially calm and quiet. On weekends, or late afternoons, there can be more noise, especially by the swings, but it never feels obnoxious like the loud cluster of teenagers screaming in the subway station. It's actually nice to hear everyone having a good time with their friends/family. Of course it would vary by season -- I can tell the park is very popular in the Spring/Fall, and some of summer too. Also a couple tennis courts where I've seen people grunting it out. A baseball field. Stairs/Steps are spread out in different areas, if you wanted to climb them. I've seen more wooded areas/hidden trails that people would jog in. A large pond where you can see ducks, and it's common and fun to go walking/jogging around the pond. Bathrooms are what you would expect from a park -- bare bones, lacking soap, paper towels or toilet paper. If you can wait to go home, then wait. Reminds me of grungy beach bathrooms, where you want to do your business and run out of there. Water fountains to hydrate. read more

Growing up in an urban environment means that greenery is scarce and things like the bushes in front of an apartment building, or a tree growing next to a fence take on an exaggerated stature. So Kissena Park was an epic forest of Tolkeinesque proportions to me and my brother(s). One where adventures and imagination ran amok. My parents would take us there every weekend when the weather was nice and let us loose among the grass and trees. One of our must-do-stops was the little Parks Department exhibit, where dusty diorama's of water tables and taxidermy squirrels (and other critters) demanded intense concentration. The pond in the middle was for fishing, but we always returned the fish. And in the winter, after a good snowfall - the sledding could not get any better. I haven't been in ages, but I pass by it all the time. And I see children wandering the paths like I used to with my family a long time ago. read more
