Kings county or killer county is the worst one of them all. I been to Iraq 3 times and other 3rd world country's the Hospitals there are so much better. I went here a couple times. This is the worst hospital I have ever been to. I came in an ambulance I had fallen on the b train on my way home I fell on my back hurt my shoulder and my neck. When I arrived the paramedics handed me over to the triage nurse who then told me to sit on a wheel chair she said you are going to X-ray she then wheeled me to the emergency waiting room and left me there and told me I had to wait to be called among a room full of drug addicts and a bunch of homeless people the security guard was having a very hostile conversation with a homeless man who was begging for food. There I was waiting for over 1 hours when I finally got tired and ended up leaving and going home in excruciating pain!! This hospital is totally unprofessional and the nurses lack empathy compassion as well as professionalism.. read more

I don't know why this hospital got such bad reviews, my son was hit by a car and this hospital did a great job talking care of him. Ultrasound and mri was done immediately they stiched his wound right after, an hour later he got a room, amazing! Maybe it was just my luck but I gotta say this had to be my best experience at a hospital, though I rather have none.only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is because they dragged their feet getting the release papers when we took him home. read more

Just like most of the other reviewers said, don't come here unless you're gonna die within an hr. and there is no other hospital to go to. Even then you might be better off dying cuz the wait for admittance to the emergency room itself is at least 2hrs on a good day. I live about 6 blocks away from Kings County so growing up I frequented this hospital often and as I've aged, I realize how disgusting this hospital is. . Last year, around May I cut a piece of my index finger tip off trying to cut frozen butter (I know very careless) I have bipolar disorder and at the time I was going through an extremely rough depressive episode so the whole losing a chunk of my finger tip thing really got to me. When I arrived at the emergency room, they made me wait in line to fill out paper work/get admitted despite the fact that my finger was bleeding profusely and dripping all over the floor.. Talk about hygiene, right? When I got into triage they told me my father couldn't come in with me because I'm not a minor and I explained to the nurse or w/e (albeit kinda roughly) that I was very distressed and would appreciate his company. The nurse called me rude and said I should be kind to people who try to help me and that such an ugly personality would never get me anywhere in life. At that point I was livid and told her that she didn't know me, my back story etc. etc. and that I was going through a very rough time not to mention I CHOPPED MY FINGER TIP OFF. For the most part KC staff is very rude, apathetic and dismissive. After being in triage, I had to wait another 2 hrs to do blood work/blood pressure etc. and 1hr later I had an x ray on my finger. The x ray technologist was pretty nice. After about 5hrs (my finger was still steadily leaking blood) I finally met with a doctor who was very, very kind and friendly and she stitched my finger and all that good stuff. She was just as surprised that no one got to stitching my finger sooner though. My second awful experience at Kings County happened in mid August. As I mentioned, I have bipolar disorder and for the most part I'm not medicated (personal reasons) At the time, I had dissociated after a really intense altercation with my mom and wound up some three or four blocks near the hospital. I had also been experiencing a very incessant need to kill myself that week, especially that day so I decided to check myself in psych emergency. Like most of Kings County, psych emergency is fairly understaffed but the nurses, guards etc. are usually very pleasant and not judgmental, though their work ethic/sense of urgency could use some improvements. My issue that day was with the psychologists/pdocs there. After triage/paperwork I met with the resident/head psychologist and she asked me why I came in etc. etc. I told her in short that things between my mom and I were pretty tense and that day things were unbearable and because of that, the suicidal feelings I usually have seemed harder to manage. She asked me if I had a therapist/psychiatrist, which I did at the time but I wasn't seeing them regularly. After I told her this she sighed and said, "So what do you want us to do for you"? She completely belittled my feelings and said, hey we all have irritating moms I'm sure it's nothing serious. I got pretty upset at that and I admit my tone became more aggressive. She then told me, verbatim, that if I have a pdoc/therapist I'm just wasting her time and mine (mind you this was a friday afternoon so regardless I wouldn't be in touch with my doctors for the weekend) At that point I was extremely frustrated and told her that her dismissive attitude could be one of the determining factors between me staying alive or killing myself. To that she huffed, and asked incredulously if that was some sort of threat to which I replied no, it's a very realistic scenario. After that I told her that since this a waste of time and mine I'll just take my belongings and leave and then she rolled her eyes and walked off. After that they had me speak to another psychologist who was very condescending toward my issues/reasons for going to the hospital. Like the head psychologist, he also went down the whole "moms are moms" route and suggested I just talk to a friend. I told him that depressives/those who experience depressive episodes often resort to social isolation and that if I had some sort of outlet/source of comfort I wouldn't have come to psych emergency in the first place.... Anyways after about 2 hrs of staying there and being treated like crap I got my belongings and left, feeling more hopeless and helpless than I did when I got in. This is already so long but I really want to say that I could've very well killed myself that day and it would've been on them. And I wanted to, so badly. I felt completely defeated after I left, y'know? At this point unless it's a truly, TRULY dire emergency, I won't EVER go back to Kings County. All in all, this hospital is nothing short of repugnant. read more

The worst problem with this hospital is the staffing. The buildings have changed but the staffing hasn't. This is the problem. If I'm sick I won't go there. If I die I don't want to be here. This is how bad my time in this place was. These people think too much of themselves than to provide decent health care to the patient. I believe they do social research and other projects that are not legal or limited by laws that protect the people in this neighborhood or the patients. This is not the only hospital that does such experiments and projects without the need to follow the laws protecting the people and patient against such things. Two others are Columbia Presbyterian and Lincoln hospital in the Bronx. I'm sure these are affiliates and there are other hospitals involved as well. read more

Very unprofessional environment. Clerk was falling asleep while doing the registration as people entered the ER. My grandma was not allowed to be accompanied by her family to enter the Triage area. The nurse said it in a very unprofessional manner even after I reiterated that she was visiting for the first time and that she does not speak english. She replied abruptly that there will be a translator. After asking around i found that all I needed was a visitor pass to enter the ER with her. The staff was extremely rude. We stayed in the ER for the entire day and the doctors barely came in the room to update us. I would not recommend this horrible hospital. read more

I called this hospital to obtain information regarding a patient to discuss discharge planning and no one answered the phone, I had to call many times before getting a response. When some one finally answered, they only to put me on hold and when she returned she was barely able to provide the necessary information. I was then transferred to the unit where the lady who answered the telephone didn't even introduce herself and took over 15 minutes just to find the nurse's name who was handling the case. I've been going to KCH ER since I was a kid and unfortunately not much has changed since. Anytime you go you can expect a wait between 4-8 hours. The place is a zoo and filled with an assortment of deranged circus animals. This was actually day two for me because I sat and waited yesterday for 3 hours but then had to leave to make a previous engagement. Today I sat patiently in serious pain as I watched a whole host of unprofessional behavior and bad attitudes. Don't get me wrong I realize ERs aren't for the faint of heart and must work havoc on the psyches of the staff but they should nonetheless do a better job of being empathetic and patient towards people who are obviously in pain/discomfort. I didn't eat so I tried the vending machines...only to see that they are still using old technology that doesn't accept credit cards. I had no cash on me so, no food & drink for me. When I finally got called the nurse was horrible. She never made eye contact with me and most of her communication was made with her back to me. She never introduced herself and certainly never attempted to make me feel comfortable given my pain. The doctor was okay and he did give me a referral to an ENT which is what I wanted. Anyway after 4 1/2 hours I got meds and left but that was my last visit to KCH ER as a patient. read more

I arrived at king county's ER at 12:30 been waiting to see a doctor, its now 20:18 they keep telling me they are waiting on a bed and I am in severe pain. In December of 2016 I was diagnosed with prostate cancer, I remember being concerned with my next step as to how to approach this diagnosis. Dr. Myers was myresident urologist along with attending urologistDr. Winer (Andrew). They took care of all the needed follow up visits,they kept me and my wife informed all the way to my surgery. They,in addition to Drs. Chouhan, Manny and Sullivan were wonderful. I remember Andrew visiting me in the recovery room on two occasions, they were with me all the way,even as I'm still recovering,Dr Winer keeps in touch with us by email to monitor my recovery. They were not the average doctors going about their normal routine,they went above and beyond,and that made my journey with this diagnosis much easier to handle. My wife and I have the greatest appreciation for Drs. Winer,Myers, Sullivan,Manny andChouhan. read more

Do NOT go to this hospital. Long wait times, rude staff, and horrible treatment of patients. I've never seen a hospital or doctor's office so dirty - I felt completely disgusting throughout my "treatment" process. A hospital should never feel this unsanitary. I was placed on a bed in the middle of the hallway rather than in a room. When I asked to be placed in a room, the RN questioned why I would need that. Why would I be in a hospital if I wasn't experiencing pain or discomfort? Wait times are horrible even for an "emergency" and when a nurse or doctor did speak to me, they only did so for about 20 seconds. When a patient is experiencing medical discomfort, hospitals and doctors should always try to make them feel as comfortable and taken care of as possible. Don't tell a patient "soon" if you don't mean it. Altogether, my experience lasted about 6-7 hours which was not at ALL necessary and I could have been in and out much sooner in a more organized, well-staffed environment. What an awful experience. The nurses in the ER are rude! They've got the doctors shook and they don't want to ask for their assistance. I only go to their ER because I'm a block away and unable to get myself to another hospital. Asked the nurse to provide me with some ice so I could take some medicine (which I realized the initial bottle I was provided with was expired and she refused to get up and get me another bottle) I needed for a CT scan and she just pointed out the machine which was around the corner and told me to get it myself. She claimed they were SOOO busy but she was either in her chair gossiping with others or walking around in slow motion with her arms folded. The rest rooms in the ER are never cleaned properly. Hospital police is useless with unruly patients since they can't touch the patients and only rile them up and they become more rowdy. If you can help it, go to another ER! read more

Worst hospital ever. It needs to be shut down. The people working here are seriously incompetent. My mother filed for my grandmother to get her visa to come here from Nigeria. She speaks no English, so my brother or I had to accompany her to the hospital. Next, we had to wait about 5 or 6 hours before seeing the doctor. Wtf? I hate government ran hospitals they are the worst. Later, it took another hour for the phlebotomist to draw blood from her. It took another hour to get her medication. Then, the only plus there were the free metro cards. The cab drivers outside will hassle you but most give a good deal anyway. The hospital has an odd smell, especially the floor where my grandmother stayed after having her stroke. This hospital...no words. Thank God I have insurance. read more

Horrible!!!!!!!! I was forced to come here by the paramedics due to the fact I could not breathe and this was the closest hospital to me besides downstate and downstate was full.i have never been to this hospital,this would be my first time...but anyway when I got to the ER they took so long to even put an IV in my arm...mind you still can't breath. The doctor was very nice as well as the nurse I had...then the nurse left and the next nurse was bad... She took long and ignored me...now I go to the floor the 4 the floor south...first not not so bad ...but the second was the worst...the nurse I had was not responding to the call bell,I was in pain due to a procedure I did that day...I Kno the call bell work because the pca's was coming but she wouldn't...I needed my itching meds she was ignoring me...then she comes in my room to do my blood pressure but she physically assaulted me...I am partial deaf...so I could not hear what she said and plus I was in a deep sleep...so I guess she was trying to tell me give her my hand and I keep saying huh and instead of having a little patience she grabbed my arm which was swollen and hurts and I screamed and said why would you do something like that...she responds " well if you had listen to what I said in the first place and gave me your arm I wouldn't have to do that" what kind of response is that...I understand nurses work hard and what not and I respect them I have been sick since I was 15 yrs old and I never had something like that happen to me...one star for the doctors they were great and some of my nurses read more

I would never recommend this hospital to anybody. The care is horrible & that's putting it mildly. They only care for you when you voice yourself enough in a negative light to them. I feel so sad for the people who thats their only choice. The care consists on Doping you up. That is just putting a band aid on a much bigger isue. This hospital deserves no stars at all for several reasons 1.My brother had a blot clot in his lungs and he collapsed on arrival at the hospital. My mother had to struggle to find a wheel chair to get him into the hospital, when they got inside the nurse had the nerve to make him stay in the waiting room. He was unconscious . After my mother complained to several people they brought him into a room where he stopped breathing and was coded. He almost died because of the terrible nurses here. 2.My grand father died here because he was given him the wrong medication. 3.The staff is very rude. Not to sound biased or racist as I am from the west indies, but that is the worst group of west Indian nurses ever. 4. The labor and delivery is terrible. There was like 10 other women in labor waiting with me to get triage. Two women sitting next to me water broke and one actually gave birth while waiting. 5. I brought my son to the er because he was lethargic, throwing up, & not being his usual over active self. The head nurse told us that a child with a heat rash was a priority over my child who was just lying around not moving. 6. I came there at 9am with severe chest pain and abdominal pain and was still waiting at 1pm without being seen. 7. a lady died here a few years ago and no one knew she was dead until an hour after she died because she was being neglected. The medical aspect of this hospital was very good; they were knowledgeable and professional, but the majority of employees & nurses were rude and did not have a sense of common courtesy. Almost every employee with the exception of two (and one of the two was maintenance) did not know how to speak to people, much less know the first thing about good work ethics, like the things that should or should not be said or done in front of patients or visitors; they all acted as if asking a question was a bother and were more interested in eating or ending their shift. Some how the employee competencies need to be given more often, and the mission statement at the nurses stations need to be reiterated as a reminder to the ungrateful staff. In order for this hospitals excellent medical capabilities not to suffer, and compete with the industry standards and their "face lift", they need to overhaul the staff and maybe employ people who want to work! As a native New Yorker born in Kings County unfortunately this would not be my first choice. read more

Kings County Hospital is.. a big city-owned hospital. Its certainly not the best, but by no means is it a horrible place for treatment. Sure, ER waits sucks. But where in the city is an ER wait a fun event? KCHC provides adequate care to a demographic of people who can't necessarily afford private health facilities. Nothing wrong with that. One thing that can be a lot better however (everywhere) would be more complete background screenings of potential employees. Overall, not a bad place at all, not third world by any means. There fucking dumb. They scheduled my daughter for an appointment for a neurologist. I needed this appointment bad so I literally put everything else I had in life aside to make sure she made this appointment. she was even scheduled a dentist appointment this same day and I chose to Make this one instead. I called to make sure the date and time was correct and where exactly I needed to go in the building. They also told me to get there a hour early. Appt was 1:20, I got there at 12:00. They called me around 1:30 then told me I was on the wrong floor smh . Had to go somewhere else for children, so u idiots didn't see it was a childs age when u registered her in smfh. Then I get to pediatrics and have to wait a longer time just for the idiots to tell me they dont kno why she was scheduled for neurologist because they cant see her like excuse me what , at this time it's going on 3pm, I'm hungry and so is my daughter. I am having such a mixed review about Kings County Hospital. The emergency room people were really good. Now up In D Building S Side I don't know what is going on. Everyday there have been different surgical doctors with no real information. Today at 12am the IV was removed with no liquids going intot the body. It's is not 423pm and no liquid through IV and no food. I was told food is scheduled for Tuesday so 2 days with no food and no IV??????? Uggggg read more

I have experienced the good, the bad and the ugly at this place. Let's start with the good. I went to the behavioral health care center here to get affordable antidepressants while I am unemployed and do not have insurance. They offer a sliding scale and I was able to get a $15 copay and free medication based on my rate of unemployment. That is one of the best deals you will find if this is your situation. I would not chose to use this facility if I had other options with insurance but when you are seeking help this is a very viable option and has served me well. I found that all of the medical professionals and almost every administrative person I have interacted with are supremely competent and kind. The scheduler at the primary care office at the behavioral health care center is perhaps one of the slowest and most inept people I've ever interacted with in any office environment. And, I've seen quite a few. She has left me on hold for over 20 minutes just to then hang up my call. She has written down my phone number and then told me on the next visit that she didn't have it so she could not call me to tell me the Dr. had a change of schedule. I then wasted two hours of my day getting there and back home for an appointment that I did not have. I can't tell you how many places I wrote down all my information. You would think she could have made a very small effort to have located it. I find that by the time I get through the administrative hoops that I do meet very talented and present medical professionals and so I am grateful for that part. I thought that with each nurse, doctor and social worker I've encountered at the Behavioral Health hospital and in their primary care division. So, I went ahead and booked a referral with the OBGYN to get my annual exam. BIG MISTAKE. I showed up on time at 2pm for my appointment with the OBGYN for a routine exam. I waited 5 hours and was in and out with a pap smear and breast exam in less than 15 minutes. I had a list of things to discuss with the Dr. and after waiting most of the day was eager to find out about some abnormalities. He didn't listen to me at all. As I started talking he interrupted me routinely telling me that it was not to worry, changes are normal and fine and I should stop worrying. I'm not someone who worries about normal things. I have some specific things but without any hesitation or real listening I was basically told to shut up and stop fretting. And, during the exam when I asked a specific question he brushed me aside and said he'd tell me later. After sitting there waiting on him to enter in all my data into the computer I had to remind him to tell me the answer to my questions. He may have had a long day too, but seriously, if you are five hours behind schedule don't treat us like that. I was furious. I will never go back there again. I should have just gone to Planned Parenthood for this service. Okay, now I have to say something about the pharmacy. I thank God and the powers that be for the access to the medication that I need right now. It really is a saving grace so let me keep this in perspective. I have been there to fill two prescriptions on two different days. The first time I waited 2.5 hours arriving around 3pm. The second time I got there around 10am and didn't leave with my prescription until 4pm. I really don't know what's going on behind the scenes with the fulfillment of prescriptions but they have got to figure out how to make this more efficient. The working assumption of using this hospital is that you have all day to stay there for some basic services and routine exams. Like I mentioned in the beginning, I am currently looking for a job and I have spent a total of at least 5 business days in order to qualify for therapy, a physical exam, an OBGYN exam and to fill two prescriptions. Five days. Do you know how many job applications and interviews I could have possibly filled out during that time? Oh, right. Please, oh, please, put some WIFI in the hospital so that people with jobs and those of us who need them can do something on a computer and not just play games or read small print on our phones. It's a huge disservice. And, if I have kept anyone's attention through to this point, I'd like to make one additional suggestion. Put some health educators in that pharmacy waiting room. Change the channels in waiting rooms from all these terrible talk shows to something promoting health and wellness. No one needs to hear Judge Judy or watch the Food Channel in this place. You've got people there for hours, so make this a place that preaches wellness. I'm a health coach and it just made me crazy to observe people in this environment. Hospitals could be a place that create some life giving energy and not just a slow painful process to monitor and regulate illness. read more

I am an employee, and wouldn't send any of my family or friends to this hospital.. The most unorganized facility, understaffed, careless, reckless, not to mention lacking compassion to anyone not of african or west indian decent. Absolutely ridiculous and unprofessional. I am embarrassed to be a part of this organization. I tried to find employment elsewhere, but it seems I have to stick around until I get more experience to be able to venture off to better hospitals. What makes this hospital dangerous is the amount of hoops the nurses have to jump through to do the slightest bit of nursing care. From the amount of medications that are not stocked on the units, and having to run down to pharmacy- to having to navigate their discombobulated computer system, the nurses are flogged with bureaucracy at every turn, and cannot focus on great patient care. This hospital does not give their nurses the support to maximize their practice of care.. it sucks. read more

I am a resident at Downstate so I think my opinion on this is not as biased as you would think. The most important thing to keep in mind is that Kings County is a city hospital and part of the HHC health care system. This means it does not have a huge budget to spend on frills and amenities. That said, I have to say that as the only level 1 trauma center in ALL of Brooklyn, and the affiliate of the ONLY teaching hospital in all of Brooklyn they do a phenomenal job. The faculty here are dedicated to say the least and us, as residents are simply obsessed with our jobs and patient care. We don't cut corners, we don't skimp on our time and often stay way beyond the call of duty to make sure our patients are ok for the night. Even the psych service, which everyone slams because of the case of Esme Greene is one of the best residency programs in the city and I would dare say in the country. Since the development of the new R building and the revamping of the entire psychiatry service the services they offer, mainly to the under-served, are indispensable. No hospital is perfect, despite what people may say about other hospitals making them sound like they practice magic not medicine. That said, I do think Kings County has some of the best attendings, best teachers, and most dedicated residents I have had the pleasure to work with. read more

Worst hospital I have ever been in for asthma. The hospital police are nasty. Hospital staff is uncaring. I was there for an emergency (asthma) and all they cared about was two things: Insurance & identification. Eventually got to the asthma room and was given one treatment. Waited for over an hour, noone showed up to give the second treatment. And then finally told by a different nurse that the asthma room was closed, because the other nurse didnt show up for work! Are you kidding me! I was asked to sleep in the hallway. The hallway was full of patients on stretchers. It was like a scene out of a third world country in a war movie. All you smelled in the air of the hallway was death! I told the staff that I would leave and they wouldnt even bother to get up n have me a sign a waiver or one of those "Against medical advice" forms. She was busy using her cellphone doing something online. She didnt even look in my face! Stay away from this hospital! Kings County & Brookdale hospital are ghetto hospitals and need to be avoided at all costs! read more

My mother is right about this hospital. You only go here to die. Went here for personal reasons. Wait wasnt that bad, but let me start with receptionist she kept calling my son female. Asked her to double check his records to make sure no one put the wrong gender. Then she thought i wanted to change it to female not male (strike 1). Next she asked for my maiden name told her and she questioned both maiden and married, i wanted to say seriously I'm legally married (strike 2). Waited to see nurse but that took long because she cut her finger, to the point i saw blood left behind on the cabnet door when she opened/closed it (strike 3). Doctor saw my son and asked what time will be besr for follow up. Said they're booked and would have a problem finding someone because of my insurance (private insurance-high option plan). I came to kings hospital with an appendectomy. Kings County was within walking distance which made it the only hospital I could make it to in my extreme pain. I do not know how many events to blame on the hospital itself. I entered and was put into a gown and a bed quickly enough then I received no attention for a few hours. During that time, again this isn't really the hospitals fault, I was spit on and screamed at by other patients who I think we're there involuntarily. After hours of this cacophonous and unsafe feeling ecosystem I started begging to hear about my condition or to see anyone. I understand that hospitals have so many needs to attend to. What was crass to me was discovering I had not only appendicitis, but appendicitis that had abba need DURING my time waiting to the point where it was about to rupture. My surgeon said lets get that thing out of you bro. I'm sure he's competent but I did not like that. I woke up half way through my surgery gasping for air and frantically glimpsing my gory procedure before having a mask get put back only face. I survived and recovered. It took 36 hours to get discharged. Every 4 hours I would plead. At various moments I was in a desolate room with my girlfriend with both of us wondering if we had entered the twilight zone. I was promised some sort of pain medication but as I was leaving I was informed that no one received any news about prescribing pain meds so I had to writhe in pain while recovering at home. This was an abysmal experience and I'm sure someone could have had a totally positive one. The worst hospital staff ever....they all have attitudes and great you like you're bothering them. Most just sit around and gossip, and the rest try to look competent but as soon as they open their mouths you realized how incompetent they really are. Avoid this hospital like the plague; your life and health will thank you later. read more

This has to be one of the worst experiences I've ever had with a hospital (besides Maimonides). I wish I lived closer to a hospital worth going to. I came here with extreme abdominal pain and after a three hour wait, talking to a nurse, another hour to talk to THREE different doctors, an ultra sound tech, and 6 additional nurses, I'm given a prescription of 40 antibiotic pills. Now The doctors have absolutely no idea what's the cause, what's wrong and don't bother doing a thorough examine, just take a few educated guesses while popping in and out of my room, bouncing idea off each other and hope for the best. Now I'm back here a month later, every pill taken and the same pain coming and going. Oh did I mention how rude and inappropriate the staff members are, from arguing with patients in the lobby or triage area, to playing music in the area where they take your vitals. Absolutely one of the worst hospitals I've ever been too, I won't be coming back here regardless if they have my records or not. read more
