Faced with a pricey $30 ferry ticket, BF and I opted to go the cheaper route to Riis beach. At $14 RT, with a free beer thrown in, it was not an unattractive option. Upon arriving, we even got free sunglasses (sponsored by Clif bar) and a handful of free cliff bars. We unfortunately hit a lot of traffic as this was the hottest Sunday of the summer. The trip took two hours each way, and it was awful, bouncing around in an uncomfortable old school bus with barely functioning air conditioning. Obviously the traffic was not the company's fault, and the bus company employee was very nice and handled the crowd fine. It's obviously still a good option for people who live near the stops and want to go the cheaper and more time consuming route. Next time, we're going with the ferry. No amount of beer, cliff bars or sunglasses make this attractive enough of an option for me. read more

NYC snow bus is awesome! The staffs are nice, and they are very accommodating. If you don't have a car and want to get to the slope and start boarding this is the way to go! It was convenient, fast, and they give coconut water! The bus we took was the nicest coach bus I've been on in many years. Clean bathroom, wifi and outlets at every seat, helpful and friendly driver. It was one of the only times I have been truly comfortable on a bus. The workers were extremely friendly and informative, even trying to speak Spanish to the passengers that understood that better than English. Pick-ups and drop-offs were quick and easy. All the time frames stated on their website were met and despite having a pretty full bus, operations were very punctual. They kept everyone organized and made sure we were all set with our tickets, and showed us where we needed to go for rentals. I thought they were just going to give us a ride and our tickets, but several times they came around with bagels and cream cheese, water bottles, cold brew coffee, and even some beer on the ride home! They went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and I'd highly recommend this to anyone looking to get out of the city for a winter activity! read more

It's an air-conditioned school bus where they give you Six Point beer and blast top 40 music. All for $14 (to Jacob Riis Park/Rockaways). What more could you ask for? They're tough to get ahold of (best to send an email and hope for the best), but one of my friends had trouble rebooking his seat, and they gave him some more free beers for his troubles, and all was well. I had to cancel a trip due to rain, and it was super easy via email (just make sure you do it more than 48 hours out for 100% refund). The ride was quick both there and bank (wasn't a holiday weekend or anything), but we took the last bus back and it was completely full. A girl had to sit with a cooler on her lap and there were holding cots all over the place. All in all, definitely a good way to get to the beach that doesn't require going to a subway station 40 blocks away. read more

The bus arrived on time to the union square pickup and took off right away, they offered bagels and an energy drink on our way to the mountain. The guide was very professional and clear when explaining the mountains, and the time we needed to head back to the bus for departure. On our way back they had beer and chocolate . Worst experience ever on the NYC Snow bus on 01/19/19. Bus came about 45 minutes late while we were standing outside waiting. When we finally arrived around 10a, as we're walking out of the bus we're told that we have to return at 1:30p because roads will be closed due to weather. How inconsiderate to not relay this information before boarding the bus, it sounds like this was planned by the bus operators so they can leave early. Weather conditions can be foreseen days in advanced, we should have received notification on this beforehand. The operators mentioned an email would be sent to all passengers due to this change, however we have not received any update at all! Sounds like a scam to me. Please note that we paid $150 per person and spent more time on the NYC Snow Bus than we did Skiing & Snowboarding due to arrival and departure time of the NYC Snow Bus. This was a complete waste of time. By the way, the bus driver and operator left a family behind because they did not want to wait a few extra minutes. What a sad excuse to want to go home early. Please have this investigated as the bus driver/operator were not professionals at all. The least that can be done is a refund since we paid more than normal as it was a Holiday weekend (MLK). Please note that even the employees at the main office of Hunter Mountain Ski/Snowboard stated that NYC Snow Bus are very shady. I was disappointed to find our that other bus offer snacks (bagels and such), water and even beer. $15 for a round trip ticket to the Rockaways? Or $10 for a one way ticket? Yes, and so I want to like this NYC Beach Bus. Except I can't. They are unnecessarily disorganized, their staff doesn't seem very competent and they don't seem to care very much about fixing issues as things go wrong. Our bus to 95th street broke down right in front of Jacob Riis, so we took the public bus the rest of the way. On the way back, the staff member didn't seem to care much about what happened and told us to not ask him any questions. They realized that there's a big summer problem for young Brooklynites: we want to get to the beach, but Coney Island can be kind of gross (sorry, it's true) and the Rockaways are just way too hard to get to. No one wants to spend 90 minutes (or more!) on the train on a hot afternoon when you'd rather be drinking a beer on the beach. Solution? A bus that takes you from Brooklyn (there are two pickup locations, in downtown Brooklyn and Williamsburg) to the Rockaways! You can get off at Jacob Riis Park, or at Rockaway Beach. And guess what? On the way, you'll be having a great time, thanks to the TWO FREE BEERS per person. Not just any beers - delicious tallboys from Sixpoint! Um, yes please. There's a candy basket as well, so between that and the yellow school bus, you'll have a rockin' ride down to the beach. As a first timer who just paid $150 for this trip/package, this meant that after getting our equipment (which took almost 2 hours due to extremely long lines), this meant we couldn't even take the beginner 90 minute class since that would put us at exactly 1:30p! (exactly when the bus was leaving). We made the decision to not take the class and risk going on the slopes. This turned out as well as you can expect for normal first time skiers without any training at all. Because of the long lines and not knowing where exactly to go, some of us barely made it back to the bus at 1:30p and 1-3 people from our group were a little bit late. The bus driver decided to take off while we're telling them that our family members are about to come out. The bus driver would not listen and kept driving, if you can believe that. We told them to just let us off the bus since we were not gonna leave family members in an unknown place. The bus driver finally decided to stop and let us off and we had to walk all the way back to the lodge (unbelievable). I would never recommend this company and it might be a long time before I ever decide if I want to try skiing again. The lack of good customer service, communication, and compassion has turned me off. Fortunately for us the ski lodge was able to find another bus with some room at a later time. Which, going back to NYC Snow Bus' excuse of roads being closed doesn't make sense since the bus we ended up taking the other bus at 4:30p. Just flat out lies and excuses to go home early. Now i'm out of $150 and wasn't able to even take a ski lesson and had a horrible experience. I would definitely not recommend the NYC Snow Bus company to anyone. read more

Before the fat lady sings on the summer season (Sept. 2 to be exact)....I'm going to have be the biatch that keeps in real here. Just because there's a much needed innovation in the field of direct NYC beach transport does not mean that the first instantiation of it is the ideal. Moving on: Who should get TEN stars are the staff....or actually, I feel like there was actually only one girl on the bus ride doing absolutely everything; counting heads, making sure everyone got free beers, taking photos to promote on the businesses' website, and basically being a hipster wrangler/entertainer on the whole trip out and the whole trip in. And the price, for a direct trip, is great, and unabashedly weighted towards a round trip purchase (only $3 more than the $9 one way price). But you have to not forget that this is NYC and that each new and outlandish thing is guaranteed to be overrun and old by the time it reaches your consciousness. If you forget this and decide to be a New Yorker and "play it by ear" 'til the last minute, then you will be shut out of web purchases (http://www.nycbeachbus.com/) and be met with the equally New Yorker experience of standing like a chump in the sun in downtown Brooklyn while all the cool kids file first onto the school bus to claim whichever forest green, ramrod-backed, 2-person maximum seats aren't on the wheel hump. If you used to favor the wheel hump seat, remember that this was when you were five, and your legs were a foot long. Even an adult with short ass legs (yours truly) will be uncomfortable if stuck on The Wheel. Anyway, back to the cool kids...if you were smart enough to buy an advance ticket, you have to wait in single file anyway, and feel like the young Forrest Gump when looking for a free spot to park yourself and all your beach gear in. You might even get that anxious feeling that you had when you were a child facing the gauntlet ranging from the four-eyed, asthmatic boys-in-bubbles up front to the near-delinquents who have undergone accelerated maturation in the back...but then you realize half the people have beards and bald spots and even fucking babies (it should be illegal to bring babies into these environments) and it dawns on you that you have made a choice between being in a cattle car of humanity (MTA) for a 90 minute trip and a covered wagon of aging hipsters (NYC Beach Bus) only for a length of time dictated by street traffic. One thing that might sway your decision is that they give out candy on the bus, though. read more

The only provide drinks on the way there and the drinks are first come fist serve, so if your the last person in line you might not get anything. Get there on time, the confirmation email say 15 min early, which I would recommended. Also other reviews say volleyballs and sun screen was provided, but I guess they don't do that anymore. The bus itself....I thought I was going to be sick, the bus driver kept slamming on the breaks and he even swerved bc he almost hit someone! I honestly thought the bus was going to tip over with how fast the driver was going through turns. The take away it's easy way to get to the beach and fairly cheap, but I honestly don't know if I would do it again, as I was a little concerned for my life, with the way the driver, was driving. I absolutely love NYC Snow Bus and their trips to Hunter and Windham make the long, cold winter fly by. The set up is simple; basically they are a private party bus that drives car-less New Yorkers up to various area ski & snowboard spots. All you have to do is a book a ticket on the bus and select the package you need (these include bus only; bus & lift ticket; bus, lift ticket & rental and lastly, bus, lift ticket, rental & lesson). From there you can be picked up at Barclays Center, 14th Street, 42nd Street and UWS, around 77th I think. The first pick up is at Barclays at 6am. After the last pick up, you head straight to the mountain for a day of skiing/snowboarding; they give you your lift ticket and rental ticket (if renting) on the bus. The buses then return from the mountain with a 4:30 or 5pm load up, and hit all of the stops in return order. The buses are clean with charging outlets, wifi and a bathroom. They serve bagels, coffee and water in the am and on the way back they usually have a movie on and serve beers. Usually I bring a neck pillow and an eyeshade mask and fall asleep on the drive up, and then hangout and drinks beers, chatting with people on the way back. Super easy and because I am not driving, I can even hit the Apres Ski as hard or not hard as I want. Also, I priced it out and purchasing a lift ticket and rental through SnowBus is cheaper than purchasing from the mountain direct. All of the bus attendants/guides are really nice, I especially like Sharief, Sarah and there was a cool woman named Tali for a while but I dont think she was here for the 2019-2020 season. I appreciate how flexible they are too. Once I had booked a full package, and then pulled a muscle and I emailed their info line to ask if I could push back by two weeks and they responded right away and were super accommodating. My only complaint has nothing to do with Snow Bus - sometimes when I take Snow Bus up to Windham, the rentals can be a nightmare. All of the various bus companies sort of arrived at once and the Windham employee who got on the bus to give us a quick run through about the mountain jawed on for 20 minutes! By the time we got to rental, the line was out the door and Windham was super unprepared and understaffed; they do everything manually and do not prioritize large groups so it took us 90 minutes to get our skis etc. I wish that perhaps Snow Bus had set up a concierge for us so we could be accommodated more quickly, or that we could have filled out the forms in advance and if you knew your boot and ski size, been moved through the line. Or I would have even been willing to leave a little earlier from NYC and skipped the "welcome to Windham" speech for more ski time. Again, not Snow Bus's fault by any means, and now that I am a more seasoned skier I will be purchasing my own equipment, but that was a bit frustrating. I didnt have that issue on any of the Hunter trips though. NYC Snowbus is a great way to go to the mountains without a car and just a fun way to pass the summer. NYC Snow bus was by far the worst experience. As a first time skier, I booked a trip with other members of my family. We purchased the beginner's package ($150 per person) which included: Round trip Bus Ticket, 90 minute beginner's class, lift tickets, and equipment rental. The bus was supposed to leave Times Sq. at 630A. It did not arrive on time, we took off 45 minutes later. Reaching the Hunter Mountain around 10A. Once we arrive at the mountain no announcement was made until I asked "what is the return time." The coordinator reports "1:30P" Not only is our trip cut short (Our scheduled time to leave Hunter Mountain as per ticket was 4:30PM), it was MLK weekend, the lines were long. We did not get our equipment, paperwork completed, and lockers until~11:30A. Leaving us with approximately an hour and half. We were unable to take the class, which was a huge concern to me and my family for safety reasons - HAVING IT BE MY FIRST TIME SKING - it would have been nice to know how to Ski. We then return to the bus and 1 family member was missing, we politely asked the coordinator - please give us 5 minutes so our family member can locate the bus and join us back to return home to NYC. The coordinator was completely unprofessional and lacked compassion. There was no rationale or reasonable communication. In fact driver continued to drive as we were standing trying to see if we can spot our cousin. The driver continued to drive, totally disregarding until we spoke up. We were forced to make a decision to get off the bus because a member was missing. The entire trip was horrible. NYC Snow Bus coordinator reported "you should receive an email with appropriate action to take because your trip was cut short." Until today - NO EMAIL was received. The staff was rude and inconsiderate. I would NEVER use their service and would not recommend it to anyone else. Totally unprofessional. In fact, NYC snow bus reported because of "weather conditions" buses wont be able to ride after 1:30? There were numerous other buses that were still present and taking customers back to their respective location in NYC. In fact, a very understanding and reliable company was able to help us - Urbansherpatravels. I cannot thank them enough. They were able to help me and my family members on our way back to NYC. In fact - they took us back at 4:30. For some reason they did not have any issues of "Weather conditions" that NYC SNOW BUS spoke of. Had an incredible experience on our day snowboarding trip to Hunter Mountain from NYC with NYC Snow Bus!! Prompt pick-up/drop-off times in both the morning and afternoon. Clean bus, comfortable seats with bathroom, outlets and WiFi available for use. Morning/afternoon food and beverages were such a great touch to an already great experience. Oh how I wish I had read these Yelp reviews before I took this bus. We went to Fire Island, it cost almost $40 round trip. The train only costs $26.50 and it's faster. We left Brooklyn at 8.45 and got to Fire island at 11.30. Almost 3 hours!! And despite what the website says, there was no movie, no candy, no drinks (not even water), no music and certainly no "awesome host". They were passing around a bag of bagels and butter at one stage so I guess that constitutes the "snack" portion. The thing they needed the most though was the "awesome host" because, having never been to fire island before, no one told us to bring cash, about the water taxi times, the schedule, renting bikes, nice places to eat. Nothing. They dropped us at the lighthouse and we were expected to know where to go. Then when I called about our dilemma with the water taxi times, some guy called Scott was really rude and totally patronizing. These kids obviously don't know how to run a business. Avoid at all costs. I'd give them 0 stars if I could. read more

This by far has been the worst trip I've ever had. I would not recommend this bus/company even to my enemies. How is it possible that a bus that supposed to arrive at Time Square at 6:30am arrives after 7am? Then once we arrive to the location, the operators of the bus have the nerve to tell us our trip is being cut short due to weather conditions? This is something that can be foreseen in advance. If I knew I was going to spend more time on my commute than what I did with the snowboarding/skiing, I would have never gone. We paid extra because it was a holiday weekend and this happens? Unacceptable. On top of that, when it was time to leave, the operators wouldn't wait for one passenger who's group was already on the bus. So it's acceptable to arrive late but the bus needs to leave on time? Thats ridiculous! Our bus was scheduled to leave at 1:30pm, and they took off at that time leaving the passenger behind. This caused a commotion on the bus which eventually led to the entire group stopping the bus. We all planned to be there all day, so it's unacceptable to not wait a couple minutes for one more person. We paid $150 a person to receive lessons and have fun but ended being a short trip with no sign of reimbursement or justification to the situation. The worst part is that there were other buses going back to NY at a later time.. So why does this bus/company have to cut the trip short for over 30 passengers?? This happened today 01/19/2019. I would appreciate if someone could further investigate the employees of this bus because it sounds like all the passengers got scammed/ ripped off. An email I immediately sent to the company asking if there was any possibility of a refund just went unanswered, so yeah, awesome customer service. For $35 round trip to Fire Island, this air conditioned school bus with a free ice coffee and beer for the trip out is the best way to go. I didn't have to worry about driving, dealing with the packed and pricey parking lot, and then shelling out more $$ for the ferry. My friend and I had a GREAT day -- the driver was excellent (unlike our unfortunate death-defying trip on Rocabus last year), and the staff was friendly and attentive. Scott was our "bus guy" and he not only told us (repeatedly) how to navigate to various parts of Fire Island once we arrived, he gave out his cell number in case we had any questions. The music on the bus was some crappy NY station, but other than that, this was a great choice. We're going to do it again before the summer is out. read more

I really didn't know what to expect because why pay $12 for something when you can use your freaking metro card but then I got on and I finally got it. New York transit fucking sucks big time and to get to Riis Park from my neck of the woods takes a long ass time, you have to take a train to a bus to another bus. That sounds like fun when you are on your way to the beach, but sounds like a nightmare when you are leaving the beach and are sunburned, drunk, bleary eyed and all you want to do is coast on the good vibes of spending your one free weekend on the beach, not dealing with a crowded bus to another crowded bus and then a train - I would pay $20 to not have to deal with that shit. Super great trip, can't wait to go back. We took a trip up to hunter on Sunday December 9th. The bus was there ready to go at Atlantic Avenue in the morning. The staff on the bus was friendly and professional. They had some food (bagels) and drinks (water) on the way up, which was unexpected. They had a movie on the way back, which was nice too. All in all a great experience and I would highly recommend. *side note, I left my glasses on the bus and they were nice enough to return them, going so far as to bring them to me. I'm so happy to have a service like NYC snow bus to get to the mountains! I don't have a car and getting out of the city can be hassle ... but a girl's gotta go boarding! NYC Snow Bus has convenient pick-up sites in Brooklyn (one only a mile from my house, woohoo!) which makes it a no-brainer. This place is unprofessional and not worth it. The site says the bus leaves at 9:15am sharp yet we didn't leave until 10:30am. Furthermore we were left on the island because on the way home the bus left early. We sat next to our host on the water taxi back to the bus station yet were left while in the restrooms, all while being at the meeting point by 5pm sharp like the site says. When we called the company wondering why we had been left the owner got defensive and said we should have been there earlier (than the meeting time) to be sure and get a ride. read more
