I have long experienced leg and foot swelling as well as venous ulcers. I went from doctor to doctor, and received many incorrect diagnoses as well as many treatments that superficially "fixed" the problem, but never resolved the cause. Finally I was fortunate enough to find Dr. Greuner and NYC Surgical Associates. From the moment I walked into the West Caldwell office, I knew this practice was different. Every staff member is friendly, caring and competent. As soon as I met with Dr. Greuner for a consultation, I was confident that he would be able to help me, and he has. It's taken over a year, but Dr. Greuner has patiently and methodically assessed the many complicated medical issues that resulted from years of venous insufficiency damage. Throughout the entire process, he has been positive and comforting and always assured me that he will figure out the problem and fix it. The entire staff at NYC Surgical Associates is caring and kind. They are concerned with the comfort of the patient during each procedure and surgery and ensure that the recovery is equally comfortable and successful. I typically suffer from a severe case of "white coat syndrome" and Dr. Greuner and NYC Surgical staff have put me completely at ease during every visit. I found NYC surgical when searching online for ways to help my lymphedema. The first doctor I saw was Doctor Kerem Bortecen. After a consultation, he suggested I start my procedure. It took me about six months from the initial procedure to see results. Since then my leg has decrease in size and is noticeably slimmer. I am now able to bend and extend my leg with little pressure. The best part is that my pain has gone down significantly. My leg feels lighter and I am more comfortable. One of the most noticeable outcomes of this procedure is the decreased swelling in my ankle. Before, I was unable to zip up the zipper of my boots and shoes, but since this procedure, I am able to do wear the shoes I want again. Overall the procedure went great. I only felt a mild amount of pain and discomfort during the first procedure. After the initial procedure, I felt okay. As long as you follow the doctors orders and take the medications prescribed, the pain should not be bothersome. I am so grateful to have had Doctor Bortecen. His kindness, professionalism, dedication and ability to work with each individual patient has made this process stress-free. I want to let the world know about the excellent outcome of my visit to NYC Surgical Associates. I researched treatment and visited doctors in my hometown of Syracuse NY. They all said the same to live with your condition and maintain the swelling of my leg. I refused to agree therefore looking for a qualified doctor that could help. I came across NYC Surgical. I looked at what they claimed to be able to do for me. I called, made an appointment and took the 3.5 hour ride for a consult. My daughter needed a specialized surgical procedure, they are one of two surgeons on the east coast that perform this procedure, it was a long journey but worth every second of it, she needed a number of procedures to accomplish what needed to be done. Her fears and recovery were long, but each day was a miracle, and everyday some improvement though slow, but workable. We traveled between two states, sat in traffic dealt with the parking situation and met some truly incredible people. Each and every doctor in this practice is incredible, their knowledge and compassion made this journey possible, the nurses and technicians are right up there with the doctors what beautiful people they are, and the office staff are kind professional and extremely compassionate, they deserve a million stars. A friend referred me to Dr. David Greuner, met him at the West Caldwell, NJ location where I was immediately welcomed by the front desk staff who is extremely friendly and welcoming. As I met the staff one by one, we all know each other by name. I am a long term patient of Dr. Greuner's and I can't praise him and his staff enough. They have spoiled me with the care given at NYC Surgical. You won't find the care that NYC Surgical and Dr. Greuner gives anywhere else. I went to see him a few years ago for large patch of spider veins I didn't even know I had varicose veins. I did know I was suffering terribly at night waking up with painful leg cramps. Dr. Greuner fixed my varicose veins and I no longer get those painful leg cramps. This has been a very pleasant experience from the very beginning. I was extremely impressed with the depth of the preliminary procedures prior to starting Sclerotherapy. All the staff at NYC Surgical are very pleasant, professional and helpful. They really do know what needs to be done and execute the procedures required with precision. I am impressed! Made appointment for treatment of spider veins, which I used to have done many years ago (when insurance used to pay ). First, ultrasound was performed. After physician review, a potentially serious issue was discovered (DVT can be life threatening). Had I not been in such thorough, knowledgeable, capable hands this might have gone unnoticed. In fact, if I had sought treatment with a purely cosmetic provider, it absolutely would have, but not here. I am extremely grateful to Dr. Bortecen and his associates for the treatment I received and for intervening in a potentially dangerous health issue. I was able to get the sclerotherapy (thank you again, Dr. Bortecen!) and will return for treatment of the DVT. In some weird way, choosing this practice might have saved my life. read more

Amazing!!! On 12/17/13 I had microphlebectomy and sclerotherapy done to both legs (front & back) and I'm very pleased with my results. This procedure was painless for me, I only seen minimal bruising which was less then what I was expecting (Bruising lasted for about three days) and no swelling. In addition, the doctors (Dr. Greuner & Dr. Huang) and staff in West Caldwell, NJ are very professional, friendly and knowledgeable. Dr. Huang a.k.a "Dr. J" conducted my procedure, and during this time he explained in detail what he was doing and answered all my questions. I am from Philadelphia which has many doctors available. I work with Dr. Greuner in NYC and NJ because of his expertise and compassion. Currently there are no doctors in my area who are qualified to work on lipedema patients. Actually, there are only a few within the entire U.S. Dr. Greuner has taken the time to address my disease and help many other women who are in need. I was waking up every night with horrible leg pain for over a year. After seeing several doctors I finally found Dr. Greuner's office. He has been wonderful. He is one of the few doctors I have ever been to who really takes the time to listen and pin down exactly what the issue is. I never feel rushed by anyone in his office. The staff is great.
