The training I took was INCREDIBLY helpful. I took Intermediate Excel for Business online with Garfield as the instructor. The material covered in the course was uncannily relevant to my business on a day to day basis. I could not speak highly enough of Garfield as an instructor. He effectively explained all material by walking us through each step and using helpful analogies for us to have a stronger understanding of when you would use each tool. As an online course he made sure everyone was engaged and was patient yet timely to reexplain something if people had questions. Garfield was kind enough to make himself available for me after the course as I was struggling with a challenging and important excel file I was working on. He let me share my screen with him and explain what I needed help with. His help with this file and the tools I gained from his instruction very likely are the reason I saved my job. High-quality VBA training in Excel--I've taken a couple of classes, and this was by far the best--Garfield was an excellent instructor--patient, clear, and helpful. Course content felt well thought out and organized--nice mix of working on mapped exercises to work on discrete skills with some room to work on any problems or concerns or thoughts you might have brought to class. The supplement files/exercises provided for post-class work are solid as well. I've received a greater amount of content from some places, but the files and materials here were much more workable and better-organized. Classrooms are not glamorous by any means, but they are acceptable. I took the class in early fall, and I would caution that the room was quite warm; somewhat uncomfortably so once it hit midday, even with the giant fan going. So dress lightly. But worth it for the VBA-ducation. read more

I went to the advanced Excel training with Saba today and learned a lot. Saba had the perfect pace going through activities and was great at giving help on the fly. This course, I'd say, is more "intermediate" than advanced. You get an intro to vlookup, macros, and pivot tables and the most difficult of the class -- perfect for me, but I think some people were hoping for a little bit more advanced. My class had 8 people in it. Chairs were super comfy. (Weird thing to mention, I know, but sitting in a rooms for many hours makes these types of features important!) I'd definitely recommend this class and Saba. I can't wait to use these skills at work (dorky, I know). read more

I took a two-day Adobe Illustrator course here and found it well worth my time. Eugenio was the instructor and covered everything I was looking for, and more. The class was small, so he made extra effort to make sure our individual needs were met. His teaching style is mostly hands-on, and very quick, which I find to be helpful in courses like this, where there's a ton to learn and you really just need an overview. He had many examples to test out the tools in real time, printed takeaway material, and his contact information for questions later. If you're looking for a beginner to intermediate course on Illustrator, I'd definitely recommend NYIM, especially with Eugenio. Bring ideas and questions if you want more personalized help--there's time allotted for this. read more

I had a great experience in my level 2 Excel for business course. The instructor, Garfield, was very knowledgeable and patient with questions. He taught all the sections effectively and I really feel like I learned a lot from that one day session. NYIM has a really nice facility with modern computers (Macs too). The fact that they give you the chance to re-take a class free of charge within a year after the first one is amazing. It was a small group setting with ~10 people, and we had one-on-one if needed. The space is comfortable with coffee and tea, and computers very good. I took Quickbooks 2013 I & II for Mac After deciding I needed a change in career paths, I wanted to try out bookkeeping. I was hesitant about a Quickbooks class, because I don't have much accounting background, and thought it might over my head, or just software based, and not enough of the accounting lessons I really need to learn. Neither of those were true. One of the first things the instructor, Paul, said was that teaching Quickbooks without some accounting would be pointless. He is incredibly knowledgeable and a great teacher, catering to each member of the class, going slowly, and as he puts it, having fun. I feel like I have a good handle on the system now, and a lot of the important basics of accounting, and am excited to continue to grow in my new job as a bookkeeper. There's a lot of great stuff that I read on yelp about Paul the instructor, and it's really all true. This class is totally worth the money and time. There is comfy chairs and breaks throughout, so it's not too tedious. Also, getting to hear questions and answers from others in the class was a great perk, as there are so many different kinds of businesses and ways to structure the books. The class is absolutely worth it in my opinion. read more

It's called "New York Interactive Media", in case you were wondering about the acronym.. I took a refresher on Photoshop here, and thought it was fantastic! The location is so convenient (right on Union Sq West), the explanations were thorough without feeling like they were beating a dead horse, and I feel much better prepared at work now that I've taken the class. Joe, one of the main teachers there, is super friendly, knowledgeable and made me feel comfortable and less embarrassed about my dumb questions going into it. Yeah So I had to have a last minute prep on my Excel skills in a private setting and Faye did her wonders and coordinated a fabulous schedule and time and set me up with a Pro- Joe who is really a master of Excel. You need to prep them 4 days ahead of time and let them evaluate exact what you need to brush up on. Therefore, I was able to put down all my questions and attach my materials to them. Bang!!! Joe was able to hit me with what is common at the work place and what to do. I did my stuff with a master and I am thrilled about it. It is little pricey but to incorporate it to a job that is well worth the invest because I really need it it. I am going to get my Excel certification next as my goal! Faye is FAB! read more

I took InDesign Essentials. Cristina was a rockstar. She was thorough but it was never boring. She went above and beyond to answer questions before/after class. The small class size ensured everyone got the attention they needed, no matter their skill level. Our instructor, Joe, put together an excellent personalized class that was tailored to the specific types of data we work with. You could tell he put in a lot of time before the class and demonstrated a mastery of excel. This class is both the best VBA training and value in NYC. The class is very small (I had only two other students in my session) which allows the instructor to provide very personal training. The syllabus is very thorough and involves real-world, complex scenarios: such as changing formulas and text on a worksheet and replacing text strings by using loops. I took this class as training for an applications developer position and found it to be worthwhile. The price is very reasonable and the classes don't take up the whole day either. I strongly believe this to be the best value in NYC while offering the least amount of disturbance to your work schedule. read more

I recently attended an Intro to WordPress course - I was sent by work to just get an overview of how WordPress works on the backend since I'll be managing a few sites shortly. The class started off pretty slow. The course was very comprehensive and covered everything from setting up the site (which isn't so relevant, at least for me, who is just taking over a WP site and not building it from the ground up), using themes, templates, widgets, and plugins. I thought the teacher was knowledgeable and paused enough times for questions but easily got impatient when questions were repeated or students asked for further clarification - it was a little awkward. I was in a class of 4 (myself included) and a few of the other students didn't have as much experience with computers or websites as others, so there was a big learning gap even in such a small class. The instructor did have many good real-life examples which was really nice, though. Overall, I'm rating it a 4/5 because there is not an 'intermediate' course, which is where I would have been, and because of this many basic introductory things were taught (like how to use a text editor) that I did not think was worth my time and money, however, overall it was a well-developed course with a very knowledgeable instructor, and I did end up learning new things in the second half of class. read more

It was by one the best training/workshops I've ever attended, the instructor Joe was so clear and made each exercises so easy to learn. Even when I felt a bit stuck or unclear he would make sure that we were all on the same page, then took out the time to ensure that I knew exactly what and why I was doing it the steps on my advanced excel workshop. I just finished the 2 day Adobe Illustrator course. The course was one of the better computer software courses I have taken. The instructor, Eugenio, took the time to find out about us and tailor much of what we covered to our interests and needs. He gave welcome advice on where we should go next and what we should investigate to further our knowledge and our careers. Eugenio knew Adobe Illustrator inside and out so when I pressed the wrong keys, he knew exactly what I had done and got me on track again without numerous explanations. We were on the computer from the very first minute until the last; he walked us through each assignment. All in all I thought this class was a great resource. The instructor was very informative and I learned a lot from him. However, the course went very quickly and it was hard to have practice time. In addition, the computers that they used were terrible. They were very slow, didn't have the same version of Photoshop the instructor was using, and 2 computers needed to be switched out in the middle of the class. I think this is the reason that there wasn't enough time to practice, since a lot of time was given to replacing these computers. read more

I googled, "Excel Training". I found NYIM Training and it is a great place to update or gain new skills. At the front desk you will encounter, Faye and she is the person you would ask all your questions/concerns. Faye is very helpful and friendly. The computers offered to show you new skills are modern and very speedy. There is a projector at the front of the room, where the instructor will show you how to perform tasks on the program you are learning. I have taken the beginner Excel course twice and soon will go to the advanced class, and I will ultimately get Excel Certified. NYIM has affordable prices and packages.
