They do have some good therapists but the billing and appointment handling is AWFUL. You have to spend hours calling them to get new links to the portal because the links rarely work. They do not send paper statements and without a reliable portal to see bills you have no idea what's going on. They don't notify you if therapist is out ill unexpectedly so you show for a canceled appointment. They send random texts telling you to call to schedule a follow-up appointment. They don't use your EAP authorization and you have to give the info multiple times. read more

I have been going to Nystroms for nine years and I am very happy there. I have the best therapist Paula Pridie and the best med manager Kathy Bergeron. Both of them are very good. I feel very comfortable with both Paula and Kathy. They are always there to answer all my questions and if I need to get in before my next appointment they do their best to get me in or they call me. Both Paula and Kathy are very easy to talk to and are very good listeners. I know that I can talk to them about anything and they are very understanding. I would recommend Nystroms and Paula Pridie and Kathy Bergeron to anyone that needs mental health care. I specifically asked for a psychiatrist with expertise in adult ADHD. I asked her for a simple recommendation regarding taking additional supplements with my medication for better EF and she said she has no clue. She also didn't know how hormones & PMS impacts ADHD symptoms. I will be switching providers to someone who knows about ADHD when prescribing stimulant medications. read more

Not enough therapists. Rather than identify the root cause of symptoms, they focus on the symptom itself. I went through over 6 hours of evaluation for ADHD that I fear are the root cause of my symptoms. As the psych went through my ADHD diagnostic results, he said they were all consistent with ADHD. By the end, he said I needed to work on my depression, anxiety and PTSD before he could diagnose me. Depression and anxiety are often symptoms of ADHD! Also, they don't have more than 1 or 2 therapists that can take new patience. He literally just recommended going somewhere else for a therapist and the ADHD diagnosis. Also, don't bother telling them you may use cannabis recreationally. You may as well being doing meth in their eyes. Even though the state of Minnesota has decided cannabis is a legal treatment for those with PTSD. If you did any self-medicating with alcohol during a once in a century pandemic, who cares about your root cause of that self-medicating, but let's focus all energy on that. Not the pain and suffering that was triggered by the pandemic that led to the self-medicating Really great way to help people in-distress. Just don't help them, but describe the waters they are drowning in. read more

This company is terrible. They cannot communicate well to save their life, or their patients for that matter. My husband had a balance due to how 2020 has gone and was told that it's okay if he can't pay it all off as long as he continues to make appointments and can start doing payments at some point. Next thing we know, collections is calling him this week saying he needs to make payments to them - not Nystrom. When he explained that he didn't know it was to that point because he wasn't given a warning, collections was very understanding and he paid 1/4th of the balance that day while setting up a plan. He has mental health conditions that require serious medications, and without those not only will his mental health decline but he with withdrawal from the meds and cause physical health. He hasn't been feeling well and so he called Nystrom to set up another appointment and they're refusing to schedule or even talk to his doctor because the full balance in collections isn't paid off yet. He explained his situation and that he has no more refills (because they only do one refill at a time for some reason?) and the employee did not care in the slightest. Psychiatry is hard to get in to. There is a wait list. So now my husband has no refills, can't tell his doctor how he is feeling for her to adjust his medication, and can't get into another professionals office before anything gets worse due to the process it takes to change doctors. He has been hospitalized before due to mental health, Nystrom knows this, and they don't give a shit. As his wife, I am extremely worried about their lack of compassion and basic professionalism. I plan on switching to a different company myself now that I have experienced this. Side note, apparently they will block you on social media if you speak up about your concerns and how they treat their patients. Took them 4 minutes to block me on Instagram rather than reaching out to me and seeing how they could help. All of this so far has been about my husband's recent experience, but I also can't say they've been fantastic. My psychiatrist seemed like a nice person who cares, but his didn't seem to take his symptoms very seriously at times and their employees in charge of phone calls and reminders seem pretty nonexistent or don't care about their job. I've been blown off or forgotten multiple times when changing medications, and that's simply not responsible for someone with bipolar. So many bad stories with Nystrom just in 2020 alone. Lazy communication. Selfish company policies. Apathetic people. Do not trust them with your loved ones. Use people who care what happens to them & will help them stay alive. read more

I have had an excellent experience at Nystrom working with Asisat. Very knowledgeable staff who come alongside you in your journey. Also very responsive on the follow my health app, which is great for someone like me who hates phone call! My only complaint is that no one ever answers the nurse line, nor do they follow up if you leave a voicemail. If you need something work directly with your provider or go in person, the nurses line is NOT helpful. read more

The doctor I visited here (Lesk) did not follow up on anything whatsoever, including two promised referrals. I had to call four days after my one and only (and final for sure) appointment to remind him to send in a prescription that he recommended. In addition, after my general practitioner referred me to the clinic and assured me they would call me, it never happened. I had to make the call myself a week later. I'm sure I'll get the canned response now from Mr. Nystrom apologizing for my issues and asking ro speak privately with me about his organization's ineptness. Stay away from this place. read more

They don't even have a org chart so nobody knows who is in charge,who the office managers are. It seems like the support are.housed in pidgeon holes with horse blinders on.i talked to one of the nurses today about renewing a script that was sent to Sedona Az (i live in Minnesota)where I winter at and cannot be transferred because it's a controlled med that I cannot transfer. The nurse didn't even know who can authorize it in Minnesota. At this point I'm going to try to have my primary doctor handle me refills instead of calling the so called nurse line. The only reason that I remain a patient here is that my psych nurse is awesome and has been very dedicated in finding the right meds for me. My review was deleted by Nystrom. The billing department is horrible. So I was on a payment plan & apparently it expired. They shouldn't expire. They never told me it expired. They said it's my responsibility to know. They than put my bill in pre-collections and didn't even tell me. Then I tried calling them to make a payment plan. They had me on hold for 30 minutes & then closed. I work until 4 & don't have time to be calling these people. Then when I called them a different time, they offered me a 12 month payment plan. I told them I was struggling to pay the bill. They never told me they had financial assistance until I finally asked. But you only qualify for financial assistance if you make no money. In that case you'd qualify for medical assistance & not need the financial assistance. Also if I wanted the financial assistance, I'd have to pay the bill in full. If I can't afford the bill than how can I pay it in full? Then when I finally called to set up my payment plan, they only let me do a 10 month one which they before told me they'd do 12. They are making me pay $90 a month that I can't afford. Every time I get a new bill, I have to call them while I'm driving home from work to set up a new payment plan. I work until 4 & they put me on hold forever. Then I have to sign it & mail it back to them with my own stamp & envelope. They are forcing me to see my Dr every 3 months because I'm on a controlled substance. Which is why my bill is so high to begin with. They also offered me a credit card type thing. But you can only add balances once a year. And I'd be charged interest. So the new bills I'd still have to pay to Nystrom. And I'd be getting billed on the credit card too & have to pay both. Horrible customer service in the billing department. All they want is money. read more

My involvement was, for me, the most humiliating and absolutely worst experience I've ever had with a health business or clinic. My feeling and impression was the entire environment and patient interaction was dominated by Nystrom's billing and financial-related policies. That's how I felt, and terminated my relationship with them after 2.5 years when my individual practitioner at Nystrom moved on. I valued my practitioner highly and managed to bear the rest of my experience with Nystrom while they were there. read more

Dr. Lesk is poor. Appears to be completely burnt out and has been just going through the motions for quite a while now. "Sessions" with him consist of him reading off a canned set of questions ("do you hear voices?" "do you think people are out to get you?" "Do you have thoughts about hurting yourself?" Etc) and recording your answers. He also can't seem to get straight with pharmacy when he needs to call in meds and refills, etc - consistently screwed this up. Previous doc somehow never had these issues. Clinic staff doesn't communicate well with Lesk - unclear if this is his fault or theirs or system or some combination thereof. Most recent problem - I was sent an email that my appointment would be by video call (Thought this was a change back to no in-person visits, due to COVID Delta spike). Attempted to log-on to call a few minutes before scheduled time. The link for the video call didn't work. Called the office and was told the link was "old" and they would send a new one. By now, it was a couple minutes past my appointment time. Received email 5 minutes later and was finally able to log on. Waited on "video hold" for 20 minutes - no Lesk- and then called them again. Was told "don't know what happened," will need to reschedule. There was opening 20 minutes later - I booked that and told them I would come in person. arrived 5 minutes early and checked in (and of course paid the co-pay - collecting $$ is the only thing they are good at, and they are VERY good at that). Sat for a half hour and then Lesk finally came out and called name for patient w appointment AFTER mine. I interrupted and said my appointment was first. He said I "no showed" at time of original appointment I told him no, I was waiting for him in video call and he never logged in - he said no one told him. I said I had been rebooked for appointment a half hour ago and was there 5 minutes early - he again said no one told him. He refused to see me at that time, as he would then "get behind schedule," even though the other patient graciously said I could go ahead. This was last straw - I had been putting off changing clinics (because Lesk is horrible and other scheduling/communication probs) , but no longer. I've had contact with 4 of the practitioners at this location. Two were very good, however the other two were bad enough that I'm giving a 1 star review. The first psychiatrist I saw told me flat out that he would not prescribe a stimulant for ADHD. Ok, I was in the process of actually doing the testing so I said I'd take something else (non-stimulant). Fast forward a month later. The prescribed medication was making me violently ill whenever I stepped into a moving anything (ie car, water slide, elevator). I called and requested to speak to the Dr. so that I could stop taking that med safely and try something new. I NEVER heard back. I had to call my PCP for guidance. After talking with my therapist (who worked with that clinic) I decided to try another Dr. for my now confirmed (through their clinic) ADHD diagnosis. When making the appointment I requested a provider who was open to stimulants. By the time this appointment was over I was hysterical and in tears. This provider also did not prescribe stimulants and instead put me on a 3rd antidepressant! The only reason I'm depressed is because my ADHD symptoms aren't being treated! read more

I have a LOT I could say about my experience with the Woodbury location. I decided to quit the DBT program after not being well served for several months. The DBT team I worked with was wholly incompetent. They were unprofessional and dismissive. The two therapists who ran my group hardly ever came prepared to teach effectively. I could always tell they were relying on memory from the last time they taught that specific topic instead of actually reviewing the material before group. I had a huge issue with the DBT coaching line. I will sum it up by saying every time I had a problem they would suggest that I do some type of distraction activity instead of helping me walk through skills that would address the problem. I told my individual therapist that this approach wasn't working for me on several occasions and nothing changed. When I brought my very valid concerns to my individual therapist the last time she became hostile and combative with me in session. Even when another one of my health care providers reached out to try to address the concern and see if something different could be done, my individual therapist was upset about it. She basically told me that the way they do therapy isn't going to change just because I complained and that it was my fault I wasn't having effective experiences with the therapy. Bottom Line: DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME, MONEY, AND ENERGY WITH THIS LOCATION! read more

Run and don' t look back. Some of the staff at the desk do their jobs and do them well, others do not. I have witnessed some of the young women working at the reception desk flirting with other male patients while I waited to make an appointment. Completely unethical. They have a $120 missed appointment fee. I missed one appointment in 19 months of using their services. I understand a fee, but $120 is ridiculous. In general the office is unclean and crowded. The care from the provider has been up and down. At times I felt like I was heard, other times I was not. The time spent with the provider often was not sufficient enough, especially for the crazy amount charged! The only reason I started going here was because they had an immediate opening in a time of crisis, now I know why. If you are in desperate need of psychiatric care and this is the only place you can get into take the appointment but continue to actively seek care elsewhere. It will be worth your time and energy. Don't let them hook you in to staying. They feed on desperate people needing help. The compassion I received from here was minimal. This is certainly just a money making business and they allow the employees to behave this way. Would give no stars if that was an option. read more

My review is of the overall experience, not the provider I saw. The clientele is extreme and the lobby is overpacked and noisy. The environment made me feel unsafe. Entrance packets are over 50 pages and patients should have a quiet and clean place to fill these invasive papers out. The lobby has dirty and extremely uncomfortable chairs. As a patient with a neck injury a clean and comfortable chair is the least Nystrom & Associates could offer for the prices my insurance company, and myself, are paying. I called the day before and left a voicemail that I was unable to make my appointment. Nystrom & Associates charged me a $120 late fee and I had never missed or been late to an appointment in the past. I will never return to Nystrom & Associates because of everything stated above. I advise whoever is reading this to find a more calm and welcoming environment to seek psychological help that does not take advantage of patients with extreme cancelation fees. read more
