Left our 3 gsp's here for 3 nights. When we picked them up earlier than anticipated. They were out running in the play yard, and as we walked through the kennels, they were all amazingly clean. We can't say enough about Lisa. We are leaving for a week on vacation and have already booked and got confirmation to keep our dogs there again. It's taken me some time to write this post because it's so traumatizing. In June of 2024, my Cane Corso was boarded here. They had met him many times before, they are familiar with his behavior. The day before I get back from the last stay, I hear from them that he's kinda down and probably just misses me. I come home the next day. He is a PUDDLE of dog on the ground, he can barely walk. He is so out of it, a fool could see he's extremely sick and someone that knew him well ESPECIALLY should. She's handing me his toys and I'm utterly stunned she's acting like nothing is happening. I had to get help getting him into the car because he could not get himself in due to how weak he was. Those steps to my car were the last he ever walked. I took him straight to the closest open vet hospital, a full 20 minutes away, where they had to wheel him in on a gurney, they worked on him for 20 minutes but he died on table. His stomach flipped as can happen in big dogs. My vet, who received the paperwork from the vet he died at, said if she had acted 24-48 hours before, he could have lived. A TRAINER, BOARDER, and BREEDER either grew stupid or knew he was in distress and didn't give a damn. He was 150 lbs, and the closest vet was closed because it was a Saturday, so I'm guessing they were just incredibly lazy. They had my credit card on file, and paperwork signed, in the case he needed veterinary treatment. I have spent years trying to figure out why they wouldn't do anything. I told my neighbor, who bought a dog from them, who said they also have access to mobile vets. A thousand options and not one of them was take the dog to the damn vet. Stay away from them. They used to have a good reputation in the area, but as I have been spreading my story widely and hearing feedback, that's obviously not the case anymore read more

SO glad O'Brien's has reopened at their brand new facility! Our dog has always been extremely well taken care of, and that should be your priority as a pet owner - not if a business works around your precious schedule. Your pet will get its own space, treats, and they get let out multiple times a day into the yard area to use the restroom. Glad to have a trusted caretaker for our dog when we can't have them with us. read more

Everything I have ever needed has been taken care of by the friendly staff here. Earl was great with training my older beagle Myles and every stay afterwords has been great. Great indoor/outdoor kennel with daily walks included. Most other places will just cram your dog into a small cube and charge more for some warm And fuzzy words. I just recently took my dog to Obriens kennel. I called to make a reservation and since it was the first time my dog was staying there they asked me to come in before the reservation to drop of shot records and fill out some paper work. The front office was extremely polite and very pleasant to speak with. I made the reservation for 10days, 1 walk per day which is $3 extra, and her nails cut plus a groom. I dropped her off on a Friday morning (between 8am - 12pm) and was told I couldn't pick her up until Monday morning between 8am - 12pm. I'll be honest, this is unbelievably annoying. I had to rearrange my work schedule just to pick her up. I should not have to take time off of work to pick her up. Also, being open on a weekend day would make a major difference. I came home on a Saturday night and could have picked her up on Sunday. Instead had to pay for an extra day and had readjust my work schedule. BUUT it was only $22 a day. Later that afternoon my partner received a phone call asking when we were going to drop our pup off. Our pup was already at the kennel. They figured it out and whom ever called was confused on who the owner of our pup was. My partner explained we both are. However when I filled out the paperwork, I was listed as the owner and my partner was listed as the emergency contact. (On both pieces of paper work I filled out) When I went to pick our pup up the front office could not find her in the system. They had to check her in the and checked her out on the same day (which is pick up day). She was not groomed and her nails were not cut as I requested (even tho I filled out 2 different forms requesting to do so). Our pup was the thinnest I have seen her since we rescued her 2 years ago. Now I do understand that dogs can be extremely stressed out but with her information not being in the computer system how do I fully trust that she was fed? Obriens kennel was recommended to us by our vet who is a personal friend. I'm iffy on whether or not I would give them a second chance. My gut is saying the dog handlers treated my dog very well and any negligence is stemming from the front office. read more

I'm really not a fan of most kennels since they're over priced, usually let dogs mingle with another and keep them in little cages, but once I found O'Brien's I knew this was the best place for my dog. They're in huge runs that allow them inside and outside, they get to run around in the fenced in country side for individual exercise time and it's only $22 a night! They let me bring my dogs own food, bed and toys which is rare to find in a kennel! Plus Earl and what I believe is his kennel staff (not reception) is familiar with the high energy hunting breeds, so I knew they wouldn't feel overwhelmed with my dogs energy level. This place isn't glamorous by any means and the reception ladies are headache to deal with (they couldn't find my dog in the system when I went to pick her up) , but Earl seems to really love the dogs and enjoys what he does. The only real complaint I have (other than the front desk staff) is that they're closed on Saturdays and Sundays and only open from 8am - 4:30 pm and you have to pick up your dog by noon or else you're charged for another night. I felt like I really had to take time off of work just to even get my dog there and back. If you won't open on Saturdays, please at least adjust your hours to accomadate your customers typical work schedule. Either way, you can't beat the accomodations for the dogs and you definitely can't beat the price! I'll be back! read more

Earl was fantastic with our 10 month old chocolate lab Retta! She's a great hunting partner and is still a wonderful family dog.... just with better manners! During the hunting dog training program she made a complete 180... she came home not chewing, not digging and most of all.... not jumping on us!!!! She's a while new dog. In regards to the service... the staff is wonderful and I got prompt responses everytime I had a question. The grounds were clean but dry. It was summer so I didn't expect it to be lush and green in 104 degree heat! Overall I would definitely recommend this kennel for anyone's dog. Although... if you're looking for a pet resort for your plushy poodle, then maybe not! But it's perfect for a dog's who wanna play and get a little dirty! read more

So O'Briens seems to have its share of fans and detractors. Here's my spin: If your dog is named Fifi, wears cute French rain outfits and never gets her paws dirty, then don't board her here. Everyone will be unhappy. You, dog, Earl. This is not a finishing school for spoiled lapdogs. If, however, your dog is a working dog, likes to get muddy, has some hunt or other drive, is a Dawg by temperament and is not a "Dino" (dog in name only) then this might be a good fit. It's not Marine Corps boot camp, but it's closer to that than finishing school. We brought our 3 year old Golden Retriver here for several weeks of boarding and hunt training. She was already "birdy" and had pretty good basic obiedience, but I wanted her to learn to find and flush pheasants and really have her hunt instincts developed. She's a worker, not a show dog. The first thing they did was give her a field cut, which is a short groom so that chiggers, ticks, fleas, burrs, are easier to prevent, spot and remove. (So far that part is sorta like USMC.). Then Earl worked with her for 5-6 weeks while she became and grew into an upland field dog. (We were in a situation where not having her for six weeks was convenient, so we weren't pining for her while she was gone.) She came back to us revved to hunt and be outside, and in the two years since, has held her hunting skills well. When I take her out and say "find a bird" then find a bird she will. I took her to some field trials recently and, while she's rusty, she did great. The only regret is that now she doesn't like playing that part of her family role where she has to be the quiet furry companion lying at one's feet by the fire. She does do that--it's in her blood and breeding--but she really wants to get out and work. She carriets her leash around the house as a subtle "hunt." She's a tough dog and I like that. Don't bring Fifi here. But if you bring Buck, or Bo or [fill in your favorite outdoor working dog's name] here it will probably be a good fit. read more

I can't even begin to say how much I appreciate Obrien's Kennel. They have been taking care of my precious pup's for over 6 years and there is no one I trust more. We are relocating to South Lake Tahoe and they were awesome in the with the sale of our home and "Open Houses", they took care of our pups to help relieve our stress. I thought I would have to kennel them again this weekend but thankfully got that call that we are in contract. Obrien's was more than understanding with me cancelling for this weekend. We will definitely got out of our way when we plan future trips and make the drive so our pups will continue to be in good hands. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE UNLESS YOU HATE YOUR DOG. We recently took our lab to this kennel. They met me at my car and told me to remove the collar. The man then proceeded to put a rope around my dog's nest and pulled him away. When my wife went to pick him up he was let out to her car on a device that looks like what a DOG catcher uses. My wife was informed when she asked how he did on his walks, "he didn't get any walks". I specifically asked about walks when I called. The lady at the counter advised that he had remained in the kennel the whole time because we had not paid for walks. My wife paid and left as she was furious. When she got home she had to was the DOG as he smelled of urine. read more

If you love your pet, STAY AWAY!!!! Owner yelled and cussed at my dog right in front of us when we picked her up. Witnessed owner yelling at the other dogs too. Receptionist was nice when we first approached the place but unbelievably rude when we picked up. Facility looks very nice but service people, including owner was exceptionally bad once they get your money. read more

I had been using O'Briens despite some unfavorable reviews. My dog is not Fifi so I felt he would be fine here. His 3rd Visit I showed up to a sign that said Kennel Cough that his shot may not cover is around. I showed up to a sign was not called so I had no plan B as I was leaving for a trip. Yes I assumed a risk and I assumed they had removed or quarantined the dog. I brought my dog home and he had a cough . I was not told he had one. I was told by Earl that the do not remove or quarantine the dog as it is airborne and they can't do anything what good would it do to remove the dog. I trust what my vet is telling me about how a dog is to be kept safe. The sick dog should have been removed from the property . Dogs have to be in coughing distance to get the cough .They did not protect my dog and Now lesson learned ask before you board how they handle if a dog becomes sick while in there care. I Will not be back. I'm sure more than my dog as gotten sick from this stay . I'm sure other people got a heads up and could make safe plans. I feel sick that I left my dog and trusted them read more

I get nervous leaving my baby anywhere!! But I have to say Obrien's Kennel is awesome !! They have open spaces for my dog to play , they walk her twice a day , she loves one of the staff members "Bill" I believe is his name . I felt reassured when she left me wagging her tail !!! OHHH , and they have a new secretary !! Way better than the last girl , This one always is pleasant with a smile you can hear over the phone ! Worst experience with a kennel EVER. I have two amazing dogs that I rescued and have a difficult time leaving them. They prefer to be boarded together when they are left. I asked specifically about having that service done along with "play time" together. Two weeks before our trip we called to shorten the dogs stay with Earl Wood's kennel. I felt like I was talking to a wall. Jackie (the front desk person) was barely paying attention. I had to call back twice to clarify details of the dog's stay and each time she had no clue what I was talking about. One the last call I asked her to repeat everything back to me so that I could be sure that she had written it down. After that call I felt confident that the dogs would be co-boarded and the reservation dates had changed. Well, evidently not. The dogs were NOT boarded in the same kennel. When my girlfriend came to pick them up they were locked up separately. The front desk person had no knowledge of the changed reservation (that was clarified THREE times) and ended up charging me for the entire stay. My opinion is I cannot trust the kennel. They say one thing but do another. If you can't call and talk to someone who is interested in paying attention to details and services that you are paying for then there is no reason to ever use them again. I will not use this kennel again. read more

I really liked the layout of O'Brien's Kennel upon visiting a couple weeks ago. The place has a really rural feel and is set out in the country - just the way my dog would like it. Its privately owned and I can tell they put a lot of work into taking care of their animals. This is not your typical kennel that is in some shopping center parking lot...It has lots of open space with separate buildings for different purposes. I will be taking my dog here for sure! read more

This was our first time putting our dogs in a kennel, and I'm so happy it was here! They are all-dog-breed friendly (huge plus) and unlike the "doggie day care" type places, they ensure all dogs safety by having single dog run style kennels, so each dog has their own space, and they have a huge yard where the "play time" (also individual) takes place. We have 3 pit bulls, but immediately after arriving, we felt comfortable with the staff and knew they would treat our big babies right. I called a few times to check in on them, and the gal in the office was so nice and reassuring. After our vacation, we picked them up, and our dogs were not stressed out, nor did they look dirty/tired. I know they were fine and treated great! Will be calling them first for our next trip! read more

Earl Rockz! In the proverbial "nut-shell", Earl ensured that we got off to the right start with Amber, our rescued German Shepard mix puppy --- we are now enjoying our farm-life with Amber The Super Dog! Three years ago, we brought our then 1-yearold German Shepard mix to Earl with hopes to learn how to train and control a high-energy dog. We boarded Amber with Earl at O'Brien's Kennel for a week and, when we returned to O'Brien's Kennel to pick up Amber we encountered a truly changed puppy --- Amber was "waggy", "smiling", and loving, but she also demonstrated an amazing respect for Earl. Earl then taught me, my wife, and our daughter, one at a time, how to control and walk Amber on-leash and then off-leash. Three years later, Amber continues to be an obedient "puppy" and enjoys her occasional boarding with Earl at O'Brien's Kennel. Our Labra-doodle, Trixie, also enjoys boarding and grooming at O'Brien's Kennel. Earl's love for pets extends to cats --- we have also boarded our 16-yearold cat, Chole, at O'Brien's Kennel, and every time at pick-up, Chloe seems to want to stay and play with Earl! We sincerely thank Earl for training and loving our pets and ensuring that we got off to a smooth and obedient start with our German Shepard "puppy" Amber --- thank you, Earl --- you Rock! read more
