O'Brien's moved our four-bedroom 350 miles from Reading to Boston. Overall, we were quite pleased. The loaders showed considerable care in dealing with delicate items and took their time to wrap thoroughly. Loading time was nearly 10 hours, but it wasn't for lack of effort on the movers' part. Unloading took 11 hours. We had two casualties during the move. One was a china cabinet, which suffered shattered glass during the trip. The foreman who was unloading us said it was badly packed. That's what prevents this from being a five-star review. A cheap bookcase was also damaged beyond repair, but that was no big deal. Price was surprisingly affordable. In fact, O'Brien's/Allied's bid was less than half of Gentle Giant's. read more

This was an extremely disappointing and unprofessional experience from start to finish. One of the workers was openly rude, used profanity throughout the job, and repeatedly complained about the size of the furniture. During the move, the crew scratched my walls and caused significant damage to my furniture--damage so severe that it is beyond repair. None of the furniture was properly protected, and drawers were reassembled incorrectly. The worker was verbally aggressive, yelling at me and behaving in a deeply disrespectful manner, which was especially unsettling as a woman being spoken to that way in my own home. Despite purchasing furniture insurance, the claims process took over six weeks, only for the company to offer repairs on brand-new furniture rather than replacing items that were clearly damaged beyond reasonable repair. The claims manager was also dismissive and rude, further compounding the frustration. I strongly urge others not to hire this company. The movers stole over 10k of jewelry from our house. The most disrespectful and rude movers ever encountered in our lives. The main guy was a angry. Yelled and screamed the entire time because the packing was not up to his standards. We dealt with a family emergency and admittedly needed to finalize packing- but the majority of the house was packed. I did not expect the level of unprofessional and pure vitriol from a the movers. It was scary- and quite frankly emotionally abusive. We went back to the house and they intentionally left multiple items including our brand new grill. Very suspicious when we went back and saw they left it- you can imagine what their intention was. Also the other more benign mover was on his phone/laptop the entire time. This company will make you pay upfront, damage your items and if you do not pay for extra insurance, you will not get anything for the damages, and they lost an heirloom and was notified during unpacking and could not have cared less. Best Movers EVER! My husband and I recently moved from Levittown to Langhorne. I was told that the movers would be there before 9:30 and at 8:45 they arrived at my door. They took amazing care of our furniture and arrived at our new home quickly. Once there we realized the my sofa would not go through the front door due to size. As much as they tried it wouldn't work. They were so professional and had my furniture set up quickly. I would recommend this company highly with a 5 star rating. Be very careful of their estimates! In my experience their estimate was 70% low ... that cost me more than $1000 extra for my move. This was a small house with a minimum stuff to move. They told me it was because of a poor estimate on their part and the lack of tools. They did not bring tools to take the beds apart or reassemble them. They used my screwdriver to disassemble and reassemble the beds ... this took far longer by hand ... a power screwdriver would have been the right tool for the job. They we clear about the fact that these were their issues ... but they still changed me $1000 extra. Not the fault of the customer when there was poor planning on their part. We recently hired O'Brien's Moving & Storage to do two jobs for us. From the start it was a total disaster. Our appraiser Carmen walked through both houses and said he would give us an estimate. After calling multiple times and leaving messages we finally got a call back with a verbal estimate. No written estimate ever arrived. Both jobs were within a few miles of each other and required overnight storage so the houses could be cleaned before we moved in. My movers scratched, chipped, or dented my bed frame, dresser, kitchen table, and office furniture. They also broke several dishes and small kitchen appliances. Nothing was wrapped prior to transport despite the movers promising to do so. Two of the three movers were brand new and taking instructions from the "experienced" mover who mostly remained in the truck for the majority of the move. When the damage was reported, they said they would send me a claim form but because I hadn't purchased extra insurance I would only be reimbursed 60 cents per pound. Funny thing is they NEVER offered any type of insurance. Thanks Carmen, you are completely incompetent. Whether or not that is by design or by lack of caring has yet to be determined... The second house movers appeared to be much more professional and experienced but again, several dishes and glasses were broken. Additionally, 230 dollars was stolen from a purse and all of our silver went missing. We called and reported this to O'Brien's but they said "they don't deal with theft, call the police." The. They charged us almost DOUBLE the verbal estimate which was clearly poorly crafted. All in all, it was a terrible experience that ultimately cost us approximately 4000 dollars plus replacement costs for multiple pieces of furniture. I would never recommend them to anyone. This time they took more than 8 hrs and charged us extra even though the reason the took longer was their fault. When I explained that the the office, the Oman said "oh okay". After two successful moves with this company, one including storage of my furniture for an extended period of time, I thought I could trust them to move me for a third time. Unfortunately, this long distance move was disappointing. I chose them over a much less expensive quote because I thought they are trustworthy and customer oriented. The movers were very good, but left a crucial part of my bed frame outside of my former residence, where anyone walking pass the building could get to it. Fortunately, a former neighbor noticed it, took procession of it, and contacted me. I notified this company and asked for assistance to retrieve the item since it was distance for me to drive and it was the movers responsibility to ensure all items were on the truck before leaving. I at least expected so kind of response from the company beyond referring me to their claims department, who still has not contacted me. I don't expect to hear from them since the move was the beginning of the week and they are closed on the weekend. I hope not to move again, but if I do I will not use O'Brien's Moving & Storage. Given the number of poor reviews lately, I should specify that my move was handled from the Allentown PA location. The cost was competitive and the location manager, the salesman (Josh), the finance person (Jeanine), and the movers were all cooperative and responsive. A lot of medical equipment and supplies had to be moved, and timing was important; I got excellent care for all special requests. I might also mention that of the 6 moving companies I talked to, only O'Briens sent a person to do an actual physical inventory; the others just had me recite what needed to be moved over the phone. When it came to the actual move, it was an outstandingly good experience. Jake, Omar and Emily were not only efficient, capable, and worked like demons but they also were polite, warm, pleasant, friendly and incredibly helpful whenever the odd glitch came up. DO NOT use this moving company. My parents used O'Brien's to move them this week. When they opened their 55" TV today, they found it had been damaged in the move. When they called O'Brien's, they were told O'Brien's would give them $0.60 per pound for the damage. In other words, they'd pay about $20 for damaging a TV that is now not usable, and if we wanted more compensation, we should have bought more insurance. This is not acceptable. I can't rate how well-or not-their actual moving services are because after trying repeatedly, I was unable to reserve with them. I was searching for long distance movers, a service I had never used before, so I hadn't the foggiest idea how it works, how they charge, the types of trucks, etc. I found what I guess was some kind of affiliate website or ecommerce website for O'Briens in the area (it was bare bones and not very informative.) So I called, got VM and left a message. I believe I played phone tag with someone (Natalie?) a few times before we were finally able to connect. I explained why I was calling and she asked me what size truck I needed. I told her I didn't know, that I had never before hired long distance movers. Horrible experience. Last spring the movers dropped my 6' marble coffee table and broke off the corner. I said I would have it repaired when I emptied the storage container at my new place. They said they would pay. Today I called and asked if I should mail or drop off the repair invoice. The rude adjuster told me he would not pay as it was over 90 days. The table is about a $7000 table which is why I had "professionals " move it and some of my other more precious things. The repair was $250. Public Service Announcement Do not do business with O'Brien's Moving and Storage in Allentown PA or Allied Van Lines. Personal Experience: Contract said they would pick up my load on Nov 5,2021. They never show up or call me. I call O'Briens and they tell me the truck broke down. I ask what plan B is. I wait 3 hours for a return call to learn about plan B. O'Brien's never calls. I call and ask to speak to the owner but I am told they are not here. I then say let me talk to the person in charge, Jeneanne Gombert. She tells me she can't pull a truck out of the air. I asked why I was not called. She says it is not my job it is the truck drivers. I wait all day for Jeneanne to call me back with a resolution. She does not so I track down Kevin Gombert, the dispatcher. He tells me the will pick up the load Monday Nov. 8. The load is picked up on Nov 8 and per the contract was supposed to be delivered on Nov 11. I spend all week trying to find out when the load will be delivered but get nothing but the run around from O'Brien's Moving and Storage. My attorney gets involved with Allied Van Lines after I went to their customer service and got no answers other than on Friday November 12, the load was still at O'Brien's in Allentown. My attorney is told the load will be delivered tomorrow, Sunday Nov 14. William Law, the Allied Customer Service Manager confirmed this in an email to me after I sent an Email to Tom Oberdorf, the CEO of Sirva, Allied's parent company. We will see. I will not hold my breath. O'Brien's and Allied have a corporate culture of non responsive behavior, no accountability and passing the buck. Despite the deceptively good quote from O'Brien's, we ended up paying almost $500 more (or 25% over what was quoted to us) for far less than they offered to do. Our move was less than a mile, and we had literally brought everything we could, boxed and all, into one room. The few furniture pieces that needed to be disassembled were easy to access and should have been simple to move and reassemble, but that was not to be. First, only half of the moving crew arrived on time. Though they worked hard and were very personable, the remaining two didn't show for over two hours. Those two also took over an hour lunch break, were caught drinking our beer, and left two hours before the move was complete. Friends and family members had to chip in to help load and unload the truck. Despite that the moving crew were supposed to also assemble the furniture, almost all of it was left for us. Some of it was broken during disassembly and needed to be repaired. By the time the end of the night arrived, the two stalwart movers who began the day were ready to leave, and presented me with a bill that was substantially higher due to "hourly labor costs". Regrettably, I paid the bill in full and filed a claim the following day. Instead of an apology and amends, our concerns were ignored. We called several times and "the boss" was never around. I don't like leaving bad reviews, but it's been three weeks and the company has yet to make an effort at any kind of amends. Buyer beware! Worst movers ever. The only reason I gave 2 stars is because the claims department did send me a check and it was relatively painless dealing with them. I will start by saying these movers were SO overpriced and the only reason I chose them is because I was assured by their sales representative that they "don't hire guys for the day, they are all professional movers." We will circle back to this. Well, let me tell you about the "professional movers." Firstly I would like to clarify that my husband and I have moved at least a dozen times collectively, sometimes across country, and we have never encountered the tomfoolery we witnessed. Mind you we literally only had them move the furniture; everything else I moved personally into our brand new house. Three guys moved us. I will say the driver, who only packed the van, was professional and knew what he was doing. The two who actually moved the furniture were clowns (no offense to actual clowns). I told them they had to take the legs off of a kitchen table to fit through the door. The one guy argued and said it'll fit, I reiterated that I have moved that table four times and I know it won't. Anyway, they decided to move it and it got stuck in the doorframe. Not only did they scratch all of the walls and the table, the guy then wanted to take the door off the frame. I refused to let that happen and they ended up taking the legs off, in the middle of my doorframe. When we got to our brand new construction home, these guys did not know how to carry the furniture and scratched walls and took a piece of wood from the newel post (which is the only thing I ended up filing a claim for, and they did pay). My husband just had surgery so could not lift and they literally asked him if he wanted to help because he actually had to give them directions on how to move things. Other than the awful quality, the professionalism was atrocious. I offered some water to be kind to the two guys doing the hard work. The one refused, and 10 minutes later said "remember when you offered water? Well, I don't need water, but do you have any chips or anything?" We ended up giving them cheese sticks (the only thing left in the fridge) and ordering a pizza. They complained the whole time, and, again, asked my husband if he could help. The one guy saw my sharpie on the counter and picked it up and said "can I have this?" I mean at that point, don't even ask. They even took a tour around our home before they started moving and were commenting on the quality and then asked us "what the tag was." Additionally, not that this matters, because when you gotta go, you gotta go, but the one guy dropped a BOMB in our oval office. As the driver was putting the furniture together, I gave him a tip and even he commented " Thanks, I didn't think I was getting one of these today." He seemed annoyed with them and I asked if this was his normal crew and he replied "nah, they're just guys for the day." All in all I would hire literally anybody else. read more

I have moved more than a dozen times in my career and used movers all over the country, O'Brien's was far and away the worst I've used. Our move from Easton to Philadelphia included 3 bedroom sets, living room, dining table and chairs and 18 boxes. We moved all of the other contents ourselves. They arrived at 9:00am and took 6 hours to load the truck. They didn't do it room by room, and created havoc at the delivery side when we couldn't get rooms together or find pieces of furniture. At 11:30 they were still trying to deliver. We finally just had them pack our front room and just leave. The crew was ill prepared, had no direction, acted unprofessionally and did foolish things that damaged our walls and furniture. read more

I chose O'Brien's based on Google Reviews and price for a small move from Manheim to Lancaster. Wishing now I had done more research and gone with someone else. First, the good: 1) We were quoted a price for 3.5 hours at $130/hr. plus one hour of travel time. When all was said and done, it took 4 hours. No big deal. 2) Things were packed and delivered. Most of it arrived unharmed and the three-man crew were friendly enough. Now, the bad (in no particular order): 1) When the movers arrived at the unloading site, they pulled up in front of the house and said "We have a problem, we can't unload here. It's a narrow street. There's snow blocking our way. Etc." This was frustrating because I had called the previous day to warn about the plowed snow and was told it would be fine as long as cars could pass. "We're like the postal service," one of them said. This was followed by at least 30 minutes of literally driving around the block looking for alternate places to unload before finally parking in exactly the place where they had started. This was all billed time. 2) One of the movers, while friendly, swore like a sailor the entire time and kept making inappropriate jokes (some obscene). He also openly criticized the estimator and the home office for being clueless about the process of delivery, especially with regard to the snow situation. They also complained incessantly about moving stuff upstairs, etc. (More about this later.) 3) While packing, they broke a leg off of a tall cabinet. It was particle board and I was warned it was a possibility but it's still disappointing. The cabinet had been moved plenty of times without incident. They make you sign a waiver absolving them of responsibility for this type of item so I don't think they really care if they break it. They also scratched another piece of furniture. 4) I needed a large wicker bureau to go to the third floor. When they reached the second floor, they said we can't get it up there. I told them they would have to lift it over the bannister. They whined but eventually did it. I have witnessed other companies take a treadmill up the same flight of steps. I didn't understand why I had to cajole the moving guys into doing this. It was frustrating. 5) When checking out, I asked the driver (who had the paperwork) for the names of the crew. He knew one guy but didn't even know the name of the third. He said the third was a hired guy for the day. The estimator made a big deal about how all their guys are checked out in advance and have background checks, etc. Although this third guy seemed to have experience with moving, he was obviously not a regular employee of the company. 6) At one point, I had to get pretty assertive with these guys when they were struggling to find an unloading point. The incessant complaining about the company and the situation was getting out of hand. Once they started unloading, they calmed down and apologized but this was not the experience I was expecting. There were many other little things that I found frustrating but they're not worth getting into. In general, the employees were unprofessional and the situation was way more stressful than I've ever experienced when moving. I would not recommend this company based on this experience. read more

The actual gentlemen that packed and unpacked in Florida heat were great, they would get 5 stars. The one star is for the office and sales staff. We received a reasonable quote with putting furniture in storage for a month. What was not explained that about a month later that quote just went up by $3000. They picked up our furniture in mid May, put in storage for a month. Called beginning of June to transport our stuff to Florida for June 29, and it cost $3000 more, and we did not get it until July15. Excuses about time of year and lack of drivers. They did explain we could wait until fall and it would be cheaper, but since did not want to pay more storage and sit on beach chairs until fall. Would not recommend this company. read more

STAY FAR, FAR AWAY! We arranged for O'Brien's to pack our remaining items and move us 1/2 hour away to our new home. Although they were very flexible with the number of date changes due to our close date being pushed out repeatedly, this is where the positive review ends. On day two, they changed out the crew and except for the lead guy, an entirely new crew was called from a different moving company at the very last minute. This caused them to be 2-1/2 hours later than I was told to expect them - with no communication to let us know. Toward the end of the pack on day two, the lead guy continued to get more and more agitated with my requests to pack up items that THEY forgot including telling me flat out that he wasn't going to pack them. However, unknown to me until later, he took our remaining items and dumped them together unprotected into a wardrobe box. The box also was not sealed on the bottom so when they got to the house, the box fell out from the bottom, dumping our belongings on the floor of our garage, breaking several items. They also picked up and moved a tool cabinet FULL of heavy tools without removing anything and packing them separately. The entire shelf collapsed during the move. Stainless Steel garbage cans were dented, furniture was scratched, and our refrigerator dented. Additionally, two of the crew members had an altercation at the new house which came very close to a fistfight between two of the workers, including quite a bit of vulgar language. One of the crew members had to take a "time out." I've never in my life witnessed such an unprofessional crew. We decided not to take the $500 insurance they offered since we packed about 80% of our belongings including the most fragile items. I'm so glad we packed most of it ourselves because I can't imagine the damage we would have had to deal with if they packed everything. We received a whopping $82.00 for over $2k worth of damage that was THEIR fault 100%. I'm shocked that a moving company responsible for your most precious possessions takes ZERO responsibility for damage done by unprofessional and uncaring movers. The movers clearly didn't care about the safety of our belongings. I wouldn't go near this company again with a 10-foot pole. read more

I rarely write reviews and after reading the reviews here I wish i read them before utilizing this company to support my move. Our move was a two part move. One local and one across state lines. West Chester, Pa to Phila. and West Chester, PA. to Hiltonhead Island SC. The local move started out quite rocky as the driver of the van ran over our mailbox completely breaking it and knocking it down. ( Two days before settlement). They also arrived with one mover short. Apparently that mover was stopped by police on their way to our home and detained. The two movers worked extra hard to load trunk as we could only have elevator for two hours in apartment complex and daughter was on 20th floor. The second move the truck was packed up and was to be shared with 3 other families valuables on same truck. Our valuables arrived about five days later. Everything was unloaded with ease. Here is the issue: The mover did not follow process of checking each box with us. He completed form and asked me to sign. We did not go box to box checking stickers and assuring all boxes were accounted for. Well, a box is missing and the customer service for follow up has been horrible. I requested they reach out to the other 3 destinations and see if my box is at their residence. They refused to do that and told me it was impossible for the box to be at an alternative address. This local company basically washed their hands of my loss and said i needed to follow up with corporate company since this move crossed states. Seriously, I spent about 5K between both moves and this is the customer service. I still do not have my missing box and the corporate claim i filled was denied. They were no help. There was a sentimental serving bowl in this box that was from my deceased mom. That is priceless. I claimed $100 for the goods in box and it was denied. Unbelievable!!! My girlfriends 82 year mother had moved on July 13 using O'Briens. When the salesperson came to the house, the subject of insurance came up. Since we originally anticipated a point A to point B move, we didn't think we'd need the insurance. The salesperson agreed saying something like "Things rarely happen". Unfortunately the move into the new place was delayed a week so it had to go into storage. It wasn't a ton of stuff since she got rid of a lot of her belongings knowing she was moving into a one bedroom with not much storage. Long story short, they lost a chest of drawers and damaged a freshly painted wall. We filed a claim with Sam Bruce, the claims processor. When I spoke to Sam, I asked him how they lose a 5' tall chest of drawers. His response was "How do we lose ANYTHING?" Are you kidding me?? After a few phone calls it was determined that the crew that moved her had two moves that day and the dresser might have gotten put into another bin. Guess what? It's now September 22nd and they still can't find the dresser. I left a voicemail for Sam but of course he hasn't responded. I'm sure that they flawlessly move 95% of their customers but in this case, they dropped the ball. The items that were in the dresser are irreplaceable. Their attitude sucks and I'd never use them again. Because we didn't take the insurance, they're only liable for $. 60 a lb. read more

Not a very pleasant experience at all. The move out went fine, but then it all went bad. The truck caught fire en route to delivery and everything had to be off loaded, and then reloaded on a rental truck. Arrived very late to deliver and did a good deal of damage to the furnishings and even the wall in the house. Then it really went bad. Was passed off to Allied's 800 number to file a claim and Allied did NOTHING as promised. I asked to have the damage fixed, and they sent out a furniture refinisher to appraise but then nothing happened. They claimed they sent a check I never received. And then I had the great displeasure of an incredibly rude phone clerk. One month on and nothing has been fixed. Never again with either Allied or O'Briens. read more

We used O'Brien's to move our entire house into a storage unit, not their storage unit, and then six months later they moved our stuff out of the storage unit into our new home. The same three guys moved us each time. They were nice and pleasant. They were quick too. A few pieces of our furniture had a few nicks in it we noticed after the move, but we expected that with any mover. We packed all our stuff ourselves so nothing was missing that way. Overall happy with the experience and would use them again. read more

The mover did not adequately protect furniture that it wrapped and placed in storage back in October 2012. We moved into temporary housing-- so O'Brien's only wrapped and stored a handful of valuable furniture. Most of the stuff stored was boxed and packed by us. I have moved TEN times since 1996. And stored furnishings on two other occasions. Unless the account rep changes my mind, based upon my experience with other movers, I would not recommend O'Brien's. read more

Less than 1 star...we hired them for a 2 part move and for storage. Items were severely damaged or flat out lost! The claims process was unfair, lengthy and ultimately an insult for the pieces that can never be replaced. Terrible, unprofessional. Hope whoever ended up with our stuff is enjoying it. Meanwhile we're left with a bunch of high end, damaged garbage that we apparently wasted money storing and moving to our new house. We were told our belongings would be in individual storage pods. If that was the case, why would so much have gone "missing"? Also furniture that should have been dismantled for transport was not and that ultimately caused its destruction. Also both the house we moved from and the one we moved into were damaged (big dings/chucks out of walls) and their movers didn't acknowledge the damage. This company is a joke! Take your business elsewhere. I tried posting the multiple pics of the damage but Yelp seems to limit them. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They moved me across town three weeks ago and two boxes of car parts mysteriously disappeared in transit. When questioned, O'Brien took zero accountability and put the impetus on me to prove their guys were responsible. The manager told me I could put in a claim but without proof, it would be denied. So now I'm out $2k for a move and $300 worth of stolen parts with zero course of action. Oh, and they tried to nickel and dime me to the tune of $500 for packing supplies in the final invoice, not thinking I would notice. BEWARE. read more

MAKE NO MISTAKE -- as I did when I decided to hire O'Brien's Moving and Storage for my local move. How impressed I had been when John Norton arrived precisely on time on a Saturday morning a month before my move to take an inventory of my belongings. He assured me that they would be transported with great care -- including a large wall mirror that had been in my family for generations. John made a show of measuring the mirror and explained that a crate would be custom-built to transport it safely. The quote he provided me was reasonable, I thought, and despite my misgivings after reading some online reviews, I decided to hire this company to handle my move. On the day of the move, only two of the three scheduled movers showed up. They arrived unprepared to crate my antique mirror, despite the request for the crate being clearly listed on the paperwork I'd signed. Further, they claimed that they knew nothing about the request for the crate. My belongings did not completely fit on the van, which required my daughter and me to move several loads by car to the new house. The movers also left behind several scratches, nicks, and gouges on freshly-painted walls, which left me scrambling to repair the damage before my buyer arrived for the walkthrough. As a result, what was already a stressful experience became even MORE stressful. I will say that the dispatcher did his best to make things right, such as sending out another crew on the morning of the walkthrough to crate and move the mirror. The following morning, I was relieved when all three movers arrived at my new house to deliver and unload my belongings. At the end of the day, however, I was shocked to learn that the final cost of the move was 15% higher than what I had been quoted, leading me to believe that John Norton intentionally provided a low-ball number to get my business. Shortly after my belongings were delivered to my new house, I discovered that the shelves for a bookcase and a printer stand were missing. I was completely baffled at how the movers could have shrink-wrapped both the bookcase and the printer stand, leaving all of the shelf brackets in place, yet somehow manage to lose three shelves during an intracounty move. O'Brien's is now offering me only 40 cents/pound to replace the bookcase, despite the contracted insured amount of 60 cents/pound. As the bookcase is useless without the shelves, I will have to pay considerably more than that to replace it. This is not the service that I expected when I agreed to have O'Brien's handle my move. The move went well until the items were delivered. DESTINATION UNPACK ISSUE [1] O'Brien's packers removed the upper lid to my $24,000 grand piano [1,103 pound piano] and wrapped the lid in padded paper prior to loading it on their moving van. When the lid was being carried into my home at the destination, one of the movers dropped the lid on the corner, damaging the wood. The mover acknowledged that he had dropped the lid. [2] O'Brien's packers wrapped my 4 foot tall terracotta planter [100 pounds] with cellophane wrap prior to loading it. When the planter was being unloaded at my home, one of the movers informed my wife that the planter got broken when he put it on a hand cart. I called O'Brien's on 7/22/16 to discuss how to submit a claim for repairs to the piano lid and replacement of the planter. BEWARE: [1] I was informed that O'Brien's would pay $0.60 a pound for the two damaged items. I explained that since the company damaged the items in my presence, I thought it appropriate that they pay for repairs to the grand piano lid and repair/replacement of the planter. [2] The female O'Brien's representative stated that since I had not elected extra insurance coverage, the owner of the company would most likely pay $0.60 a pound for the damage. A person who hires O'Brien's to wrap, load, transport and unload items, and their representatives damage items in plain view of a customer, it seems unprofessional of them to not take care of the cost of repairs/replacement. RECOMMENDATION: Before signing any contracts to have O'Brien's move your goods, make sure that they explain the insurance policy. read more

O'Brien's is honestly the worst company we have ever dealt with - completely unprofessional. The salesperson made a ton of promises that were never carried out (what time the movers would arrive, that they would disassemble all the bed frames, and more). On the day of the move, we found out that we were "sold" a bunch of lies. The movers asked us to disassemble the bed frames because it would help speed things up (since they arrived an hour after we were told they would arrive). When we questioned, we received "sales always makes promises that aren't right" in response. The bill was $600 MORE than the quote...I was told to sign the paperwork and fight it later. Needless to say, NOTHING was done about any of it - the office manager was extremely rude and not helpful. I submitted the paperwork for all the damaged and missing items and received a claim form back with completely different weights on them from the one I submitted. I got the weights of the furniture off the websites we bought it from so it didn't make sense but I was so tired of dealing with them I just wanted to get the check, cash it and move on with my life. On February 1, 2019, I met with Michael Rosendale from O'Brien's Moving and Storage, an agent for Allied Van Lines, for a full service pack and move estimate from Kennett Square, PA to the Greenville, SC area. During this visit, he explained to me that the estimate he would provide would be a "worse case scenario." He said that the way O'Brien's Moving and Storage works is that the if, on actual move day, the weight of the load exceeds the estimate, there are no additional charges, but if the weight of the load is below the estimate, the customer is refunded the charges for the weight difference. Throughout the planning for our move, I kept in touch with Mike by phone and via email, letting him know if any items that were on the original inventory should be removed as we disposed of some household items, and at one point asking him if we could move our pack date up by one day in order to accommodate the buyer of our house. He assured me that it was no problem. I asked if I needed him to send me a new contract with revised dates, and he said (in writing via email) that all I had to do was correct the date on the existing contract copy and send that in, and he would make the change. I have confirmation in writing for this date change. I also followed up with a second email confirming the change. However, very shortly before our move, Mike called to confirm the wrong (original) move date. He then said that he never responded to the original email requesting the date change, which is an utter fabrication since I have his response in writing. However, since our house sale fell through, I let it go and went with the original date. The packers did a great job getting my family's belongings boxed and ready to load. However, during the move, my belongings were not adequately stored in the moving van. Furniture appears not to have been adequately covered or protected from dirt. My couches and mattresses arrived uncovered and stained with dirt. Mattress edges needed to be shampooed, and it was obvious that they were stored on the floor of the truck with no protective barrier under them. A bed frame was broken, and part of a foosball table game arrived broken. Prior to completion of the move, my credit card was charged for the full estimated weight of the move. After my goods were delivered and unloaded, I asked the driver for the weight of my load. He replied that he didn't remember the exact weight, but that it was just over 13,000 pounds. He said that weight tickets would be provided to his office when he returned to Pennsylvania, and that I should contact Mike about my refund since my weight was under the estimate. When I contacted Mike, he told me that since I signed a binding contract for a specific amount, no refund would be forthcoming. He said that we discussed the estimate and that I agreed to forgo the potential refund in exchange for a fixed price contract. This is untrue, and although I have asked several times, Mike has not provided me documentation of this conversation or of the discount he claims I have been given. Paperwork he provided states, "A binding estimate guarantees that you cannot be required to pay more than the amount on the estimate." It does not state that I give up my right to be charged less in the event that the weight of my move is below the estimate. Mike is claiming that I have given up this right based on a made-up conversation he claims to have had with me. I have requested copies of weight tickets, and documentation of the discount I received or any conversation regarding such discount, but have had no response from Mike. read more
