This school is extremely overwhelming strict and sexist. As someone who has attended Actis Jr High, i would NEVER allow my children to go to this school as this school is very mentally draining and unsafe. THE FRONT OFFICE, AND OFFICE STAFF DONT CARE ABOUT YOU. When I would go up to the office they would never help me at all, instead they made me feel very dumb and as if I didn't know what I was talking about they constantly gave me attitude and dirty looks while speaking to the office lady's. They continuously taken my own personal items like clothing, and my cell phone that was kept with them for a whole week, I informed them that parents were unable to get the phone in time while school was open and refused to give me my cell phone at the end of the day. In my opinion there was no need for them to keep MY stuff in their office for a WHOLE ENTIRE WEEK. Now I wanna talk about how sexist the dress code is. Girls aren't allowed to wear jeans that are tight or have rips above the knees, spaghetti straps, crop tops, and shoes that reveal the toes because it attracts male attention or is "unprofessional" and "inappropriate" now this is where things get serious and is out of hand, NO OVER AGE MEN/WOMEN SHOULD BE STARING AT A YOUNG GIRL. This is mainly towards Mr postif as he is the only person that points people out the most and dress codes almost everyday but mostly the girls now isn't that just strange?? THINK OF IT. The way we dress doesn't depend on our success and the way we pass in school, we can dress the way we want. As girls/women barely even have the rights now days this doesn't help and girls deserve more RESPECT and need to stop being treated as if they are some fragile toy by some stupid adult at a school where children are supposed to be comfortable. And if it's really that big of a deal men/boys in school should be taught to control themselves. PE TEACHERS/PE Don't even get me started with them as there are no good side to them. Let's begin with the locker rooms, when I would change into pe clothes I would be stared at my miss postif and miss karen. Locker rooms are extremely crammed, humid and have a bad stench to them. Mr jones has made many girls uncomfortable, and I've caught him staring at the girls many times during pe. I genuinely don't know where they get there teachers from and how they get hired but they should be fired. The comfort and safety of the students is most important that anything and this isn't being treated very well. I am a current attending 8th grader, I will graduate in less than a week. I have had nothing but straight A's this year, and A's and B's last year, yet this school treats me worse than kids that tend to fight or get detention. This school REQUIRES you to buy either the P.E clothes or a gray shirt or blue shorts for 20$. If not, your grade drops or you get detention, in my opinion, this is dumb, dressing out does not determine you participation in sports or your efforts, this should not be such a problem to the school, if it isn't harmful, why do students get detention or even after school detention. This goes on records! "Student didn't wear a grey shirt and blue shorts, so they go after school detention" make that make sense. Teachers here are either kind or rude, most do not care of your learning. They will leave you behind if you cannot grasp the subject within a week rather than ensuring all kids are able to learn. They will get angry if you ask questions as if it isn't their responsibility to answer these questions for students. While there is tutoring, it shouldn't be needed if teachers are able to teach properly, and many students do not join tutoring in fear they will be bullied for being "stupid" which the school does nothing to stop. Bullying is a huge factor to this school, I myself had been bullied for looking "different" I wore band Tees and had a side part, multiple times I've been called names in front of teachers, yet they brush it off, I have been threatened because I was answering questions in class, I've been called nerd and dork. The teachers do nothing and neither will the office. Even if they do, the worse they get is detention. I witnessed a fight before, the kid that started it got a week of In school suspension, while the other walked in the hallways in fear that the friends of the bully will harm him. And while I admire the school's ability to see the "good" in "bad" kids, they refuse to notice that even after months of being a problem, they will not suspend a kid for longer than a week or keep them in separate classes. They refuse to help the victims and only treat them on what they see and not what actually happens behind closed doors. This is why kids are in fear of their bullies. The school will do nothing if they tell. Instead the bullies will only bully more and continue, they might even turn worse for being a 'snitch'. Because the school basically allows this, these kids don't change and continue to make other kids uneasy or feel as if they cannot speak what they feel. Mr. Postiff, he is too strict, he dress codes shirts with bands on them, dress codes shirts with certain font, he dress codes my bracelets for being "spiked" they are rounded, and the spikes do not damage to the skin, a pencil would hurt more than my bracelets, and why would they care? I am a good kid, with good grades, and try hard, while there are kids that do drugs and are horrible people, but they do not care and focus more on harmless bracelets. They don't care about the children and rather dictate how kids act and look. The office ladies are rude, I bought a ticket for a road trip there and they spelled my name wrong, I asked them to change it, they said no. The school is tucked away on a small steer in Bakersfield. It looks like a regular JR high nothing special. The schools sits across the steer from homes and condos, which isn't bad. When walking in you are greeted by a gate monitor and the campus is always clean. You head right to the front office and the office stands are nice and seem to be always busy. We are new to this school and their special needs program but so far so good. The pick is easy just sign them out show id your kid is walked out. This school is highly NOT recommended. The vice principal Scott Elliott is too comfortable with the students, he pushed one of the students on purpose with force and you could tell. Honestly, that student could have got him in trouble for it too. When the vice principal, Scott Elliott, and principal, Patrick Spears, are together, they like to walk up to students and talk about them in front of the students. This has happened to my friend before, which was also in front of me. The office ladies are very rude. They talk with an additude and will say they're busy when they aren't. When they're so-called 'busy', they're talking to the other office ladies. Students are constantly getting in trouble for knocking too many times on the window because of how long the office ladies take to respond. In general, the office ladies are annoying. I can say parents think so as well, because other students say so. So do my parents. The teachers there are really crappy, except for a few and when I say a few, I mean at least one. The P.E. teacher, Mr. Jones, is racist. He is a white unfit old man, he cusses at the students and says the 'n' word. Mrs. Postiff will happily get you in trouble because she will call security, which is also her husband, Mr. Postiff, even if it's over something small. Ms. Bennet, old white math teacher, really loud and annoying, other students and teachers can say the same. You can hear her yelling from classrooms nearby and next to hers. Mr. Postiff, security, will get you in trouble for anything and everything. He once got me in trouble for a small, hand sized mirror and took it away. It really didn't cause any trouble or distraction, and the teacher was okay with my mirror. Another example of getting in trouble for anything and everything is just having anything out in general. If you have a paper out, security will go to question you or watch from afar. Overall, I'm happy I graduated and got out of there. It really sucked and I'm glad I don't have to spend another day at that horrid school. From my experience, I highly do NOT recommended going to this middle school. read more

My oldest attended this school for his 7th and 8th grade about 5-6 years ago and my son didn't have a great experience at all. Matter fact, he struggled with his grades, his confidence and with some of his teachers. I had heard so many good things about this school, so I was excited to see what this school would offer my child. I believe for kids that do NOT have any type of disability then this is a great school. If the teachers are challenged with a disabled student who has a learning disability, then they will not take the responsibility of the failure of their students. Instead, the students are blamed for not meeting expectations of the 7th/8th grade curriculum. I believe that if your child doesn't communicate with you and express their concerns about their experience, then you know the experience is not positive. It's up to the parents to communicate with the child to make sure the experience is pleasant. At the time, my son was being bullied by the vice principal Mr. Biccum and when I addressed the vice principal directly he apologized to my child and stopped harassing him. Imagine if I was not aware? While my son was struggling and had an active IEP, I was told on several occasions that even with so many F's your child will still graduate. How would you feel if you heard that from an educator? My mom was a teacher and she did not have that kind of mentality, so hearing that was not encouraging at all. At first, I really loved this school for my son. But after he got after-school detention for not having p.e. clothes because I didn't receive my check from work yet, I went to pick him up from the after-school detention to find the gates wide open with Zero staff members around. This was around 445 pm. Students are made to stay on campus with no staff around and a wide open campus? But today the student store opened. I only had a $5 bill and so I gave it to him. They wouldn't accept it unless he got 5 items. So you charge $1 to buy stuff but can't break a $5 so he can get a water and rice crispy treat??? That's wrong. What if that's all he was able to spend for the week? What is the policy against taking a $5 bill? Obviously we arent rich and most of the time live paycheck to paycheck. My child is currently a struggling 8th grader and I honestly feel that this school is not a caring school. My son has a disability which sets him back a little and needs more help and attention to grasp the work. Currently he has 3 "F's" and I asked the counselor Ms. Cornford for help and her response to the failing grades were "the kids will still graduate if they fail 6 classes". Wow!!! Thanx Actis and also the vice principal also bullied my son. Mr Biccum threatened to give my son detention when he was going to school early. My son is 14yrs old and doesn't know any better, if there was a problem w my son coming early then he should address the concern/problem w the parent... Not threaten the kid. I honestly do not feel that the school understands communicating w the parents and that education is important for the well being of our future. I never had this problem EVER when my son attended Stockdale Elementary, Princeton Street School (in Delano) and even Earlimart Elementary (in Earlimart).
