I've had more ups than downs at this school, but my son excelled attending here and that's why I rated this school 5 stars. A few things that I thought was the downside of this school is that there's not too many students who get involved with the academic programs versus the athletic programs. I think sports are important; however, I'm shocked that there wasn't more kids volunteering to get involved in Math Field, Battle of the Books and other academic activities. My son only had a bad experience with one teacher his whole time attending here and part of the problem was that he was unorganized, but when we reached out to Ms. Zaragoza (GATE language arts) she had a bad attitude. Rather than coming up with a plan, she was argumentative and we had to involve the principal. The situation was only resolved because the principal stepped in. If we did not reach out to someone above her she would have continued to act unprofessional. I believe that if you become a teacher then you should do it because you love kids, because if you don't then you'll be acting like Ms. Zaragoza and that's a shame. All in all, I think Tevis Jr High is a great school. They have a really nice staff. My son absolutely loved so many of his teachers. This school praises the kids for doing great by rewarding them and they do a lot of school spirit activities. They have a really nice band program and the kids get to march at Disneyland which is a plus for the kids.

There's something to be said about an inner-city high school with an incredibly stellar reputuation…read morein academics, the arts, athletics, activities and an unrivaled tradition of pride. Built in 1893, it's one of the oldest high schools in Central California, and after all of these years still boasts top-notch faculty, diverse student body, active parents and top students. It's also one of the only high schools in CA with streets and traffic bisecting it. *Highlights* - Elm Grove, a beautiful urban park in the middle of campus - The Drillers, a unique and distinctive mascot - Harvey Auditorium, the only real performing arts center in a Kern County high school - a WPA building, btw. - Warren Hall, 3-story main classroom building built in 1920s Beaux Arts style - Griffith Field, a top-notch stadium that is the envy of area high schools - Diversity, this is one of the most diverse h.s. in central California, both culturally and socio-economically - Blue & White, a nationally-award winning high school newspaper - Oil Derrick monument that fronts California Avenue - Offers the highest number of AP classes in the Kern High School District - Famous Alumni include Frank Gifford (of ABC Monday Night Football fame) and Earl Warren (U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice) The teachers are overwhelmingly qualified and caring and it is as positive a time as one can have in high school. Students can go here and be very well prepared for college and graduate school. Every high school has its negatives. I'm certain that it is an awkward time for everyone, but I guess my conclusion is that BHS actually inspires growth and real-world collaboration compared to other high schools in the area.

My daughter has been in this school district for 4 years now. She attends Old River Elementary, and…read morein these years, I have had no complaints. This is the first time having to come to the actual district office. It looks like their buildings are on two streets. There are plenty of parking and even solar panels in the parking lot! Even if you walk into the main office, the receptionist will tell you where to go, like she did me, because there are different buildings for different services. It can be kind of confusing. Staff was kind, though, and the building I did have to go into for the info on fingerprinting I had to get buzzed into. This whole process was very easy, which I appreciated. My little girl will remain in the Panama-Buena Vista School District for Jr High as well, so I'm hoping my experience will remain as pleasant as it has been for elementary!

Awful is an understatement!…read more I have requested a copy of my students IEP for over a month. I am very well aware this is part of the parents rights to obtain a copy of it for their records. My child is in 7th grade this isn't her first IEP and won't be her last. I have emailed the woman who conducted the meeting Monica H., as well as her teacher who is supposed to be giving her a whole period of extra help AND the principal of Stonecreek. Finally went in person, asked the front desk lady. She wrote my name down I STILL LEFT WITH NO IEP. No IEP still. Maybe not conduct the IEP meetings via zoom? That way the parent can get a copy after the meeting is over? No responses on email from multiple people including the principal who are all employed at Stonecreek nor the woman who represented PBVUSD that led the IEP meeting back in early September. The lack of communication and care is shameful. They have pushed her through grade after grade knowing she has autism and a learning disability. Her teachers have no problem failing her knowing she has this disability. Grades are supposed to be weighted. She turns in all of her work and has 4 Fs in multiple subjects. Clearly she's in classes that are too hard for her. Wouldn't that be a sign to provide this child with more services? Not at Stonecreek or PBVUSD. They are content pushing her through each subject and grade with MINIMAL help.

The only good part is the few opportunities for the future. If you go there have fun. I barely got out of there alive. Mr Ole's--slightly bipolar. sometimes he's cool, sometimes he's definitely not. He'll dress code you for wearing a hat, but then everyone else will never bat a single eye at it. even the PRINCIPAL could walk by you, stare, and say nothing. but sometimes, he is cool. Mr Anthony might be the best, aside from Mr. Davis. funny, outgoing, and positive. just don't do anything stupid. If you're white or of pale skin color without being hispanic, do not come in late and see Ms. Hernandez, or aka Ms. Carla. out of multiple times I have had health complications, and when I would go to the office to call a guardian, id get snarky remarks about my attendance and how it could affect others despite having a 504 plan. Mrs. rogers will degrade you for being late or absent to the moment you leave that school. their rule on 20 absences a year is not for your education. it is for their benefit to look like the best school in the district-- do not fall for it. they will try to say "19 absences" for your 8th year, their handbook says otherwise. TELL THEM. they will constantly change the dress code and the rules to how the students act without actually enforcing it into the handbook or the planners. STAY CLEAR OF MS KIRKLAND. best teachers I had were Mr Ladd, Mr Johnson, Mr Hidalgo. those will be your favorite teachers. most of the other favorites left last year as i'm writing this. girls--dress code will be mostly toward you. they see a sliver of your stomach? dress code. your shorts are a little high because it's 114 degrees? dress code. your shirts a little low? dress code. BE WARNED. The only thing that kept me going were my friends and the light at the end of the tunnel that said 'graduation'. highschool is SO much better. only thing valuable they taught me was Early College and how to deal with the f*cking Nazi's of education. Good luck. P.S. Yes, they f*cking hate pens. No, none of the students care.
