All of the teachers we have come in contact with have been extremely helpful and just want to see each student succeed to the best of their abilities. This junior high is ranked one of the top in the SW part of town and the parent club is very active. While you only attend two years it is a great transition before starting high school. I've had more ups than downs at this school, but my son excelled attending here and that's why I rated this school 5 stars. A few things that I thought was the downside of this school is that there's not too many students who get involved with the academic programs versus the athletic programs. I think sports are important; however, I'm shocked that there wasn't more kids volunteering to get involved in Math Field, Battle of the Books and other academic activities. My son only had a bad experience with one teacher his whole time attending here and part of the problem was that he was unorganized, but when we reached out to Ms. Zaragoza (GATE language arts) she had a bad attitude. Rather than coming up with a plan, she was argumentative and we had to involve the principal. The situation was only resolved because the principal stepped in. If we did not reach out to someone above her she would have continued to act unprofessional. I believe that if you become a teacher then you should do it because you love kids, because if you don't then you'll be acting like Ms. Zaragoza and that's a shame. All in all, I think Tevis Jr High is a great school. They have a really nice staff. My son absolutely loved so many of his teachers. This school praises the kids for doing great by rewarding them and they do a lot of school spirit activities. If not, your grade drops or you get detention, in my opinion, this is dumb, dressing out does not determine you participation in sports or your efforts, this should not be such a problem to the school, if it isn't harmful, why do students get detention or even after school detention. This goes on records! "Student didn't wear a grey shirt and blue shorts, so they go after school detention" make that make sense. Teachers here are either kind or rude, most do not care of your learning. They will leave you behind if you cannot grasp the subject within a week rather than ensuring all kids are able to learn. They will get angry if you ask questions as if it isn't their responsibility to answer these questions for students. While there is tutoring, it shouldn't be needed if teachers are able to teach properly, and many students do not join tutoring in fear they will be bullied for being "stupid" which the school does nothing to stop. Mr. Postiff, he is too strict, he dress codes shirts with bands on them, dress codes shirts with certain font, he dress codes my bracelets for being "spiked" they are rounded, and the spikes do not damage to the skin, a pencil would hurt more than my bracelets, and why would they care? I am a good kid, with good grades, and try hard, while there are kids that do drugs and are horrible people, but they do not care and focus more on harmless bracelets. They don't care about the children and rather dictate how kids act and look. The office ladies are rude, I bought a ticket for a road trip there and they spelled my name wrong, I asked them to change it, they said no. And they speak with attitude as if I am the problem.
