What a gem. I am SO happy we have this shop on Byres Road. Jim, the owner, is a bit of a legend…read more He is an artist and a real craftsman. I wandered in in looking to get my beloved shoes re-heeled. He said it would take about 20 minutes and would cost £9. I suppose that is relatively steep for some people, but considering that I love these shoes and I can finally wear them again AND the real TLC he gives the shoes - polish, shine the whole shebang, I was more than happy to pay! He did a stellar job, is incredibly friendly and chatty and has a good sense of humour. He showed me pictures of some of the repairs he's done, and I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the state of the shoes that some people bring in. Anything from Doc Martins to Jimmy Choo's (they were ghastly, I was shocked!), he managed to make everything look brand new, no matter how little leather was left. This would probably also be the place to come to get keys cut, glass engravings, belt notch making. I have yet to require any of these services, however, I know where I'll be going when the time comes. I am super happy with the service in this place, and can only recommend Jim and craftsmanship! The one thing you should know is that it is cash only.

I did some research on the internet and came across Tip Top Shoe repairs in Mount Florida. Headed over yesterday, explained my problem and Jim suggested a rubber sole and heel to be put onto both boots. I left them with him, walked out in my socks (nice sunny day and getting odd looks from folks) to a cafe round the corner for breakfast. Had just finished my breakfast and Jim called to say they were ready. To be frank, i did not know what to expect and i was pleasantly surprised to see the heavily worn down sole replaced with a rubber half sole and new rubber heels. and the price was...... £20 for the pair! Jim's skills saved me a packet, my feet are dry and if the glue holds up i'm expecting to get another couple of years riding out of them. The other option i was exploring was buying some shoe goo on amazon and doing a DIY patch job.... the cost of the shoe goo was 14 delivered and i would have made mince meat of trying to creating a smooth finish, with the expectation of replacing the boots soon after. Jim is a very easy guy to talk to, he explores all the options with you and despite the fact that he was busy with other orders he understood my predicament of not having spare shoes to walk about in and prioritised my boots. I can't thank him enough and my advice to bikers in Glasgow is..... check your boots and if the soles are worn down then go see Jim and get new soles BEFORE you get holes in them. You will be keeping a traditional local business alive and your wallet will thank you. My previous disappointing experience with Timpson's a few years ago and their prices of £59 for resoles saved me a potential headache. I am certain you will not find better service, quality of work and rates anywhere else this side of Glasgow. one well chuffed, dry footed biker

Sneaky man that he was though, was trying to find out what my heel grips were for! Next thing I know, he's handing me back my money and getting me to take my boots off in the middle of the shop so he can have a look at what was bothering me. Nope, heel grips weren't the answer... He explained what was causing my discomfort (complete with drawing me a diagram) and suggested putting an insert in to see if that helped. He's given me something temporary so I've to try them out and see if they work and go back to him after a few days then he'll either work out something else for me or take out the temporary ones and fix them permanently into the boots. With my boots back on, I asked how much I owed him - not a thing! Absolutely amazing service. *skips off happily...*

It was not until i got home i noticed this and was so angry i punched the wall.. When i took the watch to Timpson's Braehead branch, they suggested i had scored through the engravings myself but later retracted that and apologised as they explained it was the 3 pronged tool they use which had done this, the Braehead guy told me to take it back to "RAB" Ihad to compose myself before this and showed him the damage he had done which at first he tried to deny but later admitted, why he could not own up to this is beyond me, it is as if he tried to get away with it, no apology was received from Timpson on moss street from "RAB", i asked for him to replace the movement in my watch which was destroyed, It took from the 28th of October until the 20th of November for him to do this but the engravings on the back plate of my watch are scored right through 3 times.. it is heart breaking for me because when my Dad gave me this watch some years ago, i remember how exited he was to give it to me.. No refund was offered and they just said there is nothing they can do about the score marks through the plate, 3 of them.. And they are deep.. i wont be back at Timpson and i will continue to show friends and relatives the damage to my watch, Customers are treated very very poorly.. it is as if their job is a burden to them.. i cannot stress enough how extremely shocking an experience this has been for me and i will review Timpson everywhere i can put it up.. I was told my boots couldn't be resoled as they were a certain type of sole that 'wouldn't take a sole'?!...okay. Was a bit miffed about that (especially as I managed to get them resoled in another cobblers!) and was then told to get the soles on my shoes changed to anti-slip (there was nothing wrong with the original soles; just they weren't very grippy) would cost me just shy of £20! Ouch. Because these were some favourite shoes of mine & made of leather I figured what the hey...I'd rather pay that than not really be able to wear them come the icy/snowy weather. Still, I did think nearly £20 was a bit steep... They're only open until 5pm Mon-Sat so I had to wait until the next Saturday to collect them. Upon collecting them I thought they looked okay but on closer inspection the heels have got big staples visible in them and I thought this was strange as in the past I have never been able to see anything other than the heel itself. Also the sole they used was grooved and not smooth/flat as before but upon walking on them they still do not feel particularly non-slip. Hmph. Bit annoyed. Also they only take cash only and on that particular day I didn't have enough cash on me so had to go away & take out some. The lady serving was very pleasant but I don't think I will be back as I know of better/cheaper cobblers in the area.
