I have five cars. I've been buying my batteries and car parts from AutoZone in McHenry, IL, since…read morethey opened. I changed to them from O'Reilly's and Advanced Auto. I've never had any issues. They've always been professional, fast, helpful, and affordable. If a battery went bad, they swapped it. This weekend, I got a manager who seemed not to appreciate customers. He was smug and curt with me. When I walked up to the counter, I gave the battery to the kid and told him it was dead; I wanted to swap it. They told me they had a charge overnight. I told him I had charged it overnight myself. It wouldn't hold a charge. The last time I swapped a battery, it didn't need to be charged overnight. At that time in May 2025, I told the guy I charged it didn't work, and he swapped it. I told the manager the story and asked whether it was a new policy. He said the last swap wasn't policy. Okay, now it's policy that they charge it overnight. I explained to him that I had a car sitting in the middle of the road and I needed a battery. So I told them to sell me a new battery, take the old one as a core, but charge it overnight, and let me know if it's really bad. I waited 24 hours and drove back in. Same smug manager. Short with me. Said yeah, we took it, but you gave it as a core. I said, "Yeah, I gave it as a core, but told you to charge it first." He said, " Yeah, but when you give it as a core, we just ship it out. I had told the guy at the counter twice to charge it for me to make sure it's good. I even yelled down the registers to the manager to make sure you charge it for me. Obviously, he had made up his mind that he was not going to work with me. At my age, I know lots of car guys who are shopping there for parts. That's going to end today. I don't know what the guy's problem was, but the look on his face told me he wasn't going to work with me. I've been buying all kinds of car parts from there. Really like the store. I always like working with the guys there. But this manager, I have nothing good to say about my interactions with him. They could have told me right there that if you give it as a core, we won't charge for it. They didn't. They knew what they were doing. They screwed me out of my $200 battery. Rock auto is cheaper, but I try to support local businesses. This guy wants his store to be on the list of businesses that close in McHenry. I'm happy to help him reach his goal. Now it's my turn to earn that money back in spades with bad reviews every chance I get.

Their own employee Carlos along with Mike I believe paid for the alternator and the labor with the money in their own pockets!!! In my industry we have a sign in out office that reads fast, cheap or good... pick two because you can't get all three. I have tried another shop in McHenry a few years ago that a friend recommended. The car was there for 3 days and I called because I hadn't heard anything. They stated that they were going to look at it the next day ( 4 working days later). I picked it up and brought it to North Town and was driving it two days later. I really have never had a bad experience here and do trust them.

When you contact them to address these problems, it becomes clear that their true intent is to profit from your misfortune. They are well-versed in their legal rights and clearly know how to exploit them, walking the fine line of what they can get away with. Promises made during the sale quickly turn out to be empty, leaving you feeling deceived and powerless. The behavior of the individuals I dealt with, specifically H**di and Jo*, was deeply unprofessional and outright disrespectful. Instead of addressing concerns, they resorted to projecting their insecurities onto me as a customer--calling themselves "pieces of sh*t," hanging up mid-conversation, and even handing the phone to other "customers" to insult me. There's also a potential violation of two-party consent laws, as they may have recorded conversations without my knowledge or agreement. They later attempted to use these recordings as a form of intimidation, which is completely unacceptable. (The last statement is alleged, but I do know that they decided to let to me know, mid-conversation, that they are recording our conversation. And you think this is an internal system....it's not. It was done on a personal cell phone). This business epitomizes every negative stereotype about "used car salesmen." If there were a negative star rating, this dealership would deserve it. They prey on customers, overcharge for their products, and deliver some of the worst customer service I have ever encountered. Save yourself the headache, frustration, and financial loss. Take your business elsewhere.

I returned it to the Cary Auto Zone with out the receipt. There is some kind of code on a receipt that allows another store to access the other store to make the return but with no receipt, the code was no place to be found. The employee at the Cary Auto Zone took some time to call the other store to have them look up what purchase and get the code. Then the Cary Auto Zone employee made the return for me. I was not expecting that kind of customer support on a $10 item. He was very good to me. I only wish I had gotten his name so everyone would know who he was. He was fantastic and a credit to Auto Zone and there hiring practices.
