Call ahead in case they are busy. Otherwise, they will tell you to drop off first thing in the morning and pick up by 12noon. Great idea. Don't mind if I do. This is a no frills business. After seeing some great reviews I decided being in my car for service. I needed to get the brakes replaced as they were ready to be replaced. I called and made an appointment and drop off the car first thing in the morning. It was a smooth process overall. They called me early afternoon to give me the quote on the repair and was completed by about 4pm. Overall we were happy with the service. I think it was fair pricing but never got other quotes. I did take off a star since they were not complying with covid guidance to wear masks. It kind of petty to some but was important to me since I have health concerns. There are few things in life that we probably hate to spend money on as much as auto repairs. We spend thousands of dollars to purchase an automobile, and having to spend thousands of dollars more to keep fixing the automobile feels like an injustice. I came to Ron's because I had a headlight bulb that was out I called another competitor who quoted me a price ~$275. Ron's quoted me a price significantly less than that amount. I brought the car to them and they were able to fix it same day. When I went to pick up the car I asked about the price, he told me they had to remove the front bumper which took more time; But then he added, it's a headlight bulb, it shouldn't cost hundreds of dollars. As a result I spent less than $150 on the repair. Finding that honest mechanic who will fix your car but not take you to the cleaners is a rare find. Been going here since I've been driving (about 9 years.) I take my car here when I'm too busy or don't have the drive (pun not intended...) to do the work myself. I generally don't trust shops enough to leave my car there without me being there, but I make a huge exception here. Both of the owners (Ron and his son, Rick) are very knowledgeable, honest, and do great work. They will tell when something can wait to be fixed...you don't find that too often with most mechanics. Their diagnostic work is also very good, as well. I had some engine issues that no one else could figure out. I took my car here and it ran great by the end of the day. The pricing is also very fair...on par with most other places in the area. FYI, the place is very, very busy. They have a lot of bays and technicians on staff, but unless you make an appointment or something, you can probably expect not to have your car for a few hours. The way I look at it, though, is that they always fix it right the first time and you won't waste any of your time with a misdiagnosed problem or sub-par work. Nothing is more frustrating than taking your car to a shop to be fixed and the problem not being corrected...this doesn't happen here. It is not as if I have been sitting here trying to find something wrong with Rons Services, but if I have been, there is not one thing I could come up with. I haven't personally been going to rons for very long, only about a year or so. However, my in-laws have been coming here for over a decade. Always have gotten great service and quality work. Seems like they always try to fit anything into their schedule for me. My wife and I went to pick up my truck from getting some routine maintenance done and my wife's blinker and taillight was out. Great service and communication by Rick regarding some emissions work I had done on my 328i. Car was diagnosed, re-set and then taken over to the emissions station where it passed. And the price was way less than I had expected-only charged the standard diagnosis fee. I guess if I had anything further to say it would be that they weren't able to get to my car for a week, but hey, a busy shop is a good sign, and the patience paid off. I have been fortunate to have a company car the last 20yrs. Recently I took another position in the company that was more $, but no car. So I was looking for a car that was only a few years old. I called around for someone to inspect a vehicle before I bought it. Everywhere I called wanted $99 and couldn't take me for a week. If I'm buying a car I can't wait a week for someone to look at it, ridiculous. Some of my neighbors use Ron's service and they swear by them. I was getting ready to pull the trigger on a car yesterday, so I called Ron's. Rick said he could do it for $30 and he also told me that they were booked solid but would squeeze me in; in between jobs, just come in when I was ready. I get there about 2pm, the place is bustling with customers coming and either picking up their car or dropping it off, all the while the phone is ringing off the hook and Rick cool as a cucumber answers every call. After about 40mins, Rick got my car up in the air and looked it over himself. 10mins later he calls me into the garage to see for my self, it's clean with no visible issues and all the fluids looked good as well. I was out in a matter of minutes to bring it home to show my wife. The only thing that Rick didn't do was take it for a drive around the block, which I know most places would do. HOWEVER, they were very busy and had already drove it a few miles from the dealership with the radio off and didn't hear anything weird and it handled well. I know he would have taken it out if I had mentioned anything about how it drove. I came in for a rim leak about 3 months ago and got a way cheaper price here vs the dealership for the two front tires. I told them what needed to be done with the rim leaks and they understood that. I ONLY came to this location due to all the positive review that was left for this local mechanic shop and turns out I been noticing my tire was still losing air after I had paid them to fix the rim leaks so when I took it in for a oil change at the dealership and brought it up to them..they told me the rim leaks were NOT fix since I was still losing air from both tires. I explain to the service adviser at Infiniti in Hoffman Estates where I got my rim leaks done at and he told me they didn't do it right since I am still losing air OR they probably didn't do it at all OR they probably did it a different way but that can't be because I explain what I expected them to do and they know what they do with rim leaks. And 3 months later I am still driving with my two front tires with rim leaks thinking all this time this place had fix it for me but not! I basically paid them NOT TO FIX MY TIRES! I really thought this place was trustworthy and the guy that I encounter at the desk was very knowledgeable about everything but you never know a place until you actually try them out. Never ever again. Sticking to the dealership. This was my fear of getting my car done at an independent shop. read more
