The Sub Lounge (formerly O'Reillys) was a real find. Not something you'd expect to come across at the end of an alleyway under Tara St Station, Sub Lounge takes its visitors on a gothic journey into a haven of magical otherworldliness. A group of us wandered down the dark alley one Sunday afternoon, a little anxious about what we might discover... Pleasantly surprised to find ourselves inside a Sleeping Beauty-like cavern of candlelit wonder, we stopped to marvel over the interior before giving the solitary bar man his rush of the century. The place was empty before we arrived, but luckily we'd brought a large enough group to make the entire place our own. The candelabras, mood lighting and high, domed ceilings make this place enchantingly atmospheric, but let's not forget the practicalities. Recipe for a good night with a large group: large tables - check, cheap beer (3.40 a pint!!!) - check, pool table - check... Ok this place is a winner. And get this - they even have a foozeball table! Rad! The toilets are definitely worth a gander... many, many mirrors, and easy to get lost in after a few pints of the dark stuff. After finishing work I went to meet a few friends here for after work drinks. It started out very good the first waitress we had could not do enough for us we even ordered a few wedges and chips these were really good. Me and 1 of my friends decided to order some cocktails so we went to the bar to see what we could get I ordered a mojito and a White Russian for my friend. I should have known it would be a disaster when the female bartender had to as the waitress how to make it needless to say it was not very good. After a while my friend decided to get one more round before we left. Well to say we were shocked is an understatement. When the waitress came over she went to order a drink to which the response was cant you see I'm busy what's wrong with you going to the bar, as she turned and walked away and went back to the bar to chat with another member of staff. The girl that had been looking after us earlier I think had finished which was a shame. Needless to say we didn't stay for another drink. Would want to give 5 stars, but it has no different edge over other Dublin pubs, so 4. I'd say 4,5 even. Half a point for cheap drinks! One of the cheapest in the area. Pint €3.60! Suck it, Temple Bar! Pubs location is tourist free, beggars free as well. Crowd here is so different and I'd add young. Good for meeting new dates. They do live music, poster says it's every Thursday. Beware, they propagate metal music here. Club Hell - all drinks €3, Jager & Tequila €1.50. Pub has quite a lot interesting details inside. I'd like to preface this review by saying that I am currently in a state of considerable disrepair. Though I don't blame Sub Lounge for the sensation akin to having your brain power sanded, of which I have been suffering all day, I must accept that it will color my review to some degree. To the degree of minus one star, to be precise. And we're off! Down a twisty turny lane and built into the wall of Tara Street DART station you will find Sub Lounge. Though you'll probably see the bouncer first, the pub is loaded with character. First there's the big mean steel studded but, inexplicably, yellow door. Next to it is a wonderfully warm and snug smoking area, with circular tables and French people in polo necks. This combination makes it feel like the entrance to, of all things, a fortified café. The Gargoyle doesn't help. He's to the right of the door, resting in what looks like a decidedly uncomfortable position. Then you get inside and find it to be a wonderful cathedral of a cavern. Lots of nooks and numerous cranny's but with a decent share of big tables as well. It's brilliant, you can come in pairs or dozens-a very rare feature in pubs these days. An even rarer feature is a pub where more than an hour can pass without hearing a song you despise. It's unheard of, actually, the whole 'good music' ideal. Well done Sub Lounge for that alone. Two bars for reasonable service. Although, whatever way they have the taps set up, it felt like there wasn't much choice. It could simply be that there wasn't much choice, Sub Lounge is more of a cocktail orientated bar. The cocktails are, incidentally, only €5 from Thursday to Saturday. I had a Guinness anyway, and having had Guinness from Mizen to Mallin, I'd have to say it was a bit below par. But, I'm not one to judge so I gave them a second chance to prove themselves.... and a third... and you know where this is going. Overall though, and until I woke up, it was a very pleasant experience. I'll definitely be back, and bring people. read more

Sub lounge. Where the pints are cheap and the music is good. Impossible to get a seat in the place on a Friday night due to all the companies close by reserving them. At least have a few for punters walking in off the street! Great heated area outside for any smokers out there. For those that don't smoke amuse yourself by watching the smokers pressing the button for the heaters every couple of minutes to get them on again. read more

Ah I love O'Reilly's. They have ran an excellent Rock/Metal night on Saturdays (Club Hell) for the past five years. It's always free in, and they have ridiculously cheap drinks offers. Shots of Tequila, Sambuca, Mickey Finns & Jager are all 2 euro. TWO EURO. Insane. Bottles of Kopparberg are €3, Pints are all €4, and you can get a pitcher of JD & Coke (4 shots of JD) for €13. It's also free in. I seriously doubt you'd have a cheaper Saturday night out anywhere in the city! They also run a night on Mondays (Cheap Ass Mondays) with commercial music, the same price list, which is usually full of students/teenagers. It's not enormous, there are two bars. It's pretty much always rammed. The music is a mix of commercial rock/metal/alternative on Saturdays. I've brought all sorts of people here over the years and regardless of their musical tastes, pretty much everyone has a great night! read more

A little gem of a pub literally under Tara St Dart Station. Once called O'Reillys, it renamed itself to The Sub Lounge a few years ago. Similar to buildings I spent far too much time in during college (Trinity College has similar buildings - alas they're not pubs too), The Sub Lounge has huge barrel vaulted ceilings under the train tracks, the result being really cool ambience and acoustics, even as the trains pass overhead. To further this ambiance even more, The Sub Lounge has church candles all over the place and quite possibly old church furniture thrown into the odd corner. The bar is pretty well stocked and they usually have signs up saying all pints are €3.40 on weeknights, which I think is the cheapest pint in Dublin on a school night (3x Corona for €10 doesn't count, I said pints). The staff are an entertaining mix of surly and humorous. Definitely worth a visit. You'll undoubtedly find it won't be your last. read more

Pubs that huddle around train stations are never this cool. Why is this bar so brilliant?! Stumbled upon this place with my pal last night. I'm only in Dublin for a few days so I'm trying to do a speed tour, which has involved a lot of drinking and wandering around. Never thought I'd find a city that has more pubs than my native Glasgow, but there you go! When you're spoiled for choice it's hard to find bars that stand out. O Reilly's not only seems to have a great atmosphere and club nights on offer, it's also cosy, cool, fun and packed full of people. It's situated under the railway line, and the tunnels from above make up its infrastructure. I crapped myself when I heard a train go overhead for the first time, but it's a pretty cool place to stash a bar. Lit by fairy lights and with a massive beer garden, there's loads of space available for bigger groups. But the main selling point for this bar, aside from the banter, is its cheap booze! All draughts are 3.30, making it the cheapest bar in Dublin I've visited in the city centre. Of course the prices mean you get wrecked very easily, but I don't see that as a problem! Loved it, will definitely return for one before I leave. read more

A brilliant pub located under the Tara Street Dart Station. In fact years ago that is how I found this place, totally by accident. There was a service disruption on the Dart and my train was going to take an hour longer to arrive than expected. I love the decor - very Victorian. From the first time I went to Sub Lounge, I have enjoyed every moment. While I have never been there on a weekend, weekdays are usually pretty quiet and the drinks are cheap. They have a really cool function room with pool table and dart board. The ambiance is excellent, they even have real candles in cool candelabras! And the artwork and decor is amazing; the giant rat sculpture out front and a weird robot head thingy inside is awesome. Definitely a place to check out for a few drinks after work. read more

Sacrifice your virgins, release your long hair, and take a Highway to Hell or a Stairway to Heaven because you just landed at O'Reilly's! This METAAAAL bar is everything you would expect from such a place. Built under the Tara St Station, it really looks gorgeous - I mean, darkly gorgeous. Cross the dungeon door, watch yourself in the gothic mirrors and enjoy the dark church atmosphere of the place. Of course, the best way to invoque Satan is by ordering a beer, so let's go to the bar. The selection is okay, but the booze is ridiculously cheap - 4€ the pint of Smithwicks Pale Ale, ie. We even got free beers from the bartender, what a dream(theater)! You can also get party platters (the medium one would fill easily 6 metal heads being hungry to death (metal?) after spending hours in a mosh pit). This place is a gem for all the metal lovers, especially in the week-end. Be careful though, because it gets crowded pretty quickly. 5 Satanic stars, well deserved! read more

Okay. First of all: this place is SO CHEAP. Like the cheapest bar I've found in Dublin. A pint of Heineken is €3.40; vodka is less than €4, and tequila shots are €2. (Yup, keepin' it classy with the €2 tequila shots.) As for atmosphere. Well. I had two very different experiences at O'Reilly's. The first time I went, it was a Monday; we arrived at around 10ish, and there was background music and comfy seating and a relaxed, casual vibe. I love this space; it's under a train station, and has a sort of underground, secretive feel. There's a fabulous patio/beer garden, with heaters during the winter, and the whole thing was just really chill and fun. The bartenders were really fast, too. All in all, a five-star night. Then a few weeks later, on a Saturday night, I remembered how much I had enjoyed O'Reilly's -- and, of course, how cheap it was. I persuaded my friends (a different group) to go in. And OH MY GOD. Totally different scene on a Saturday. Turns out that they do this heavy-metal thing every Saturday: Club Hell. Which is really, really not my scene. (If you know me, you'll appreciate how not my scene Club Hell would be. It's like the opposite of my scene.) It was way too hardcore for my group. My friends mocked me mercilessly for bringing them there, we took a couple of ridiculously cheap shots, and left. So, in my rating, I'm not sure how to balance the two nights. I'd totally return to O'Reilly's if I were convinced that I'd get an experience like my first visit. I would definitely not go on a weekend. That said, a different type of person might love Club Hell. As it is, I'm going with three stars. read more

Every Saturday night they celebrate Club Hell, a Rock/Metal night full of people enjoying and having loads of fun. However, this is a place you can enjoy any day of the week. I remember the Sub Lounge in its previous incarnation as O'Reillys: just a pub under Tara St station, nice decor, old man-style bar in the front, fancy function room/lounge in the back. I think I was there for an eighteenth, so that gives you some idea of how long ago this was. A friend of mine suggested going to a place called Sub Lounge recently, and I acquiesced, curious to visit what I thought must be one of the few pubs in Dublin that I was not yet acquainted with. When I got there, I realised that it was the same place where my friend Bren had his eighteenth. A funny coincidence, but nothing special. But then: THREE EURO FORTY A PINT. F**king hell, how long had they been keeping that one under wraps? The place should be thronged with hard-up Dublin bon vivants. So this isn't really a review as such, more an evangelising call to action: come forth, o ye, and go to Reillys, where pints are only €3.40. (Pint bottles of Bulmers and such are around normal price, but for €3.40 a pint fudge that shit and get a few cheap pints into ya). read more

Cheap drinks. Can't think of another reason I go here! I definitely don't go for the music although I'm in to the whole rock and metal genre I'm not to well up on the 70's and 80's rock they play there. Seems to be the same playlist each week but crowd to drunk to notice. Really nice decor. Really dark and gothic type feel. Almost a Game Of Thrones feel to it, almost. The place does be packed on a Saturday night. "Club Hell" as it's known. Gotta be fast when waiting for a person to move from the counter because somebody will swoop in in seconds. Great place to go with a group, I enjoy the craic in the smoking area although I don't smoke, not as loud outside. Good luck trying to find a seat. Ends at 2:30am which is quite early. Usually off to another place then. €2 jäger shots. Can't go wrong. Loses a star because of the music. Hook up my iPod to the PA and you're onto a winner. read more

The cheapest pints in town. A large roaring crowd from the moment you walk up. Lots of people both outside and in. The back room reminds me of a German beer house with its long tables, but it was a bit smelly back there . At one point there was only one bartender in the back room, but the service was pretty fast. We found a few seats on a disgusting bench in the window sill and enjoyed the ambiance and our great, cold, cheap pints. read more

I was drawn to this place after hearing about their rock saturday nights, a.k.a. Club Hell. Pints for 3.5€ and other drink promos also didn't sound too bad, I must admit (: Maybe my expectations were just a bit too high, but the crowd there didn't impress me, I was expecting more people there for the type of music but instead most of them seemed like groups just enjoying the cheap drinks and chatting. The music wasn't great either, when I got there it started great with Faith No More but it varied a lot. Anyway you almost couldn't hear it with all the noise. It wasn't all bad. The decor gives a nice twist to the place - the interiors resemble a church - and the smoking area is pretty big with lots of tables where you can place your glass. read more

If you are looking for a cheap place to get a few pints without leaving the city center, O'Reilly's is the place to go. With good rock music, cheap shots, and a heated outside area, finding this place is like finding a diamond in a haystack. The crowd is mostly younger people on the weekend nights and there aren't many tables, so be prepared to stand. Getting a pint on a Friday or Saturday night may be a challenge as the front of the bar tends to get quite crowded. The outside area is best for chatting as inside can get quite noisy due to the music - outside is also where all the smokers are, so be aware if you don't enjoy smoke in your face. The pub accepts credit cards and the men's bathrooms are usually quite orderly. But it may not be a place for all types of people. If you don't like the younger crowd, loud music or having to stay standing, this may not be the best place for you. But if you do enjoy cheaper pints than in Temple Bar and actually manage to find this pub hidden in between a train station and business buildings, you're in for a treat! read more

OK but the music is not very loud, the drinks are really cheap. But the problem is with the security at the front door. They're so stup.. and think that they are God. Last time lot of people couldn't get into the pub with no reason (they only said: every night is different. and don't try to be reasonable with them because, in addition, they are gorillas and will push you). Looks fun online but when you get there it's packed full of underage students who are getting sick and spilling drinks all over you. Not to mention the lack of most of their drinks even jjagerbombs which are a classic. They let way to many people in and at the door they said to get rid of our free passes from Vipsy because they let everyone in anyway they were just too lazy to check them. They also let one of my highly intoxicated friends in and when I called an ambulance for her the bouncers were being cheeky and telling us that we were stupid for listening to the ambulance who were telling us to keep her in the recovery position. After we didn't listen they huffed and walked away from us when we had a girl passed out at the door of their club. This place is horrible and I would never ever set foot in there again even if you paid me. read more

this is hands down my favorite pub in dublin. totally a hidden gem and i hope it stays that way. i would have never found the place if it hadn't been for a friend taking us there one night touting it as a cool place where we could play pool AND darts. ok sure, i expected a crowded pool hall or yet another pub, but boy was i wrong. it was totally chill and not at all average. i fell in love with the place immediately for the decor and the ambiance. how can you not love a place that welcomes you with a GIANT METAL RAT?! and it brings me so much joy that it's right under a dart station which you can see into thru a window in one of the side rooms. i also love the fact that they have real candles and candelabras everywhere - tho you do have to watch out for catching your drunk ass on fire sometimes :) and speaking of drunk ass... the pints are the cheapest in town. at 3.40 euro a pint! cocktails range around 5 euro. wow! my favorite part though is the bartender Shawn/Sean (sorry dude i never asked you how to spell your name). a wonderful combination of surly and hilarious and always entertaining. maybe i'll see you there some tuesday... read more

One of my first nights out in Dublin my classmates and I went to O Reillys. The night started off great, unfortunately once we hit O' Reillys my night went downhill. I was refused entry due to the fact that my garda age card apparently didn't look like me. I completely understand that bouncers have a job to do but when I produced a second form of ID proving my identity I was still denied entry. I dont know Dublin very well being new to the city but the bouncer had no problem letting me walk out on my own when I couldn't contact my friends. I was disgusted that someone could treat another person in this way. I will not be returning to this pub again! read more

O' Reilly's is in a super convenient location with extremely affordable drink. The interior is a medieval themed pub directly under Tara street Dart Station. I wouldnt recommend it for an older crowd as it seems to be a hotspot for 20 - 40 year olds. It can be hard to find seating at peak times (6pm weekdays) but usually something clears up within 10 mins. The bar staff are quick and efficient and not overly chatty which can be nice if you are just looking to get back to your table. This is a great spot to meet a friend after work as the pints are well under 4€! On Saturday nights this pub turns into "hell club". Although it is not my cup of tea, I have been twice and its a great opportunity for people with similar interests in heavy metal music to meet up. Worth checking out! read more

The candle light and funky demonesque metal work all create a very cool atmosphere to this pub located under the Tara Street train station. I loved hearing the trains thunder by as we enjoyed our pints. I've also found they have the cheapest pints of Guinness compared to other pubs in city center. Very large outside area too. Formerly 'O'Reilly's Pub', Sub Lounge is seen as Dublin's best kept secret. I think the regulars want it to stay that way, however, with a place like here where it's 3.40e for a pint? 5e cocktails Thurs-Sat? I can't help but shout it out. Unbelievable value! Not only is the drink overly affordable, but the atmosphere, ambience, and decor of the place is hard to compare to other places. It's dark and dim, but lovely. They have interesting figures, such as a huge metal rat at the front and an unusual robot head on the inside of the pub, and they have a foozeball table. It's odd but in a good way. read more
