Already the journey to them is part of the relaxation. Beautiful views towards what feels like the end of the world. Just a small harbour and a lifeboat station are at the end of the little road. All staff that I met was very friendly, natural and competent. As it was my first time there I had to fill out a form, including any medial conditions. As this area is Gaeltacht it was first in Irish then in English. The staff speaks English. We had a special offer package via Pigsback which included a massage, facial, seaweed bath and refreshments. I enjoyed all three of them very much and felt very comfortable, enjoying some pampering. As expected you can say any special requirements for the massage or the facial. The facial can include colouring of the eye lashes and eyebrow. I got an introduction how to use the seaweed bath which included first using the cedar wood steam box, then the warm / hot seawater bath where you after a while add the seeweed that is waiting for you in a bucket. Talking to my friends afterwards the amount of seaweed seems to vary depending on the seaweed available. When I was there is was very rich and oily so it was seemingly less than on other occasions. But enough to rub it into your skin and to enjoy the treatment. The food (soup or sandwich) afterwards was tasty and nicely filling. People also came into the cafe after walks around the area just to have a coffee or for something to eat. As we were there on a lovely warm and sunny day we got to enjoy and further relax after the treatment in the tranquill surroundings. But I'd say even or especially on a cold and rainy day it's a lovely escape from our daily lives.

Whether it is offering driver services to its location (and home again), the hand sanitize/temperature taking device just prior to walking into their lobby, the proper ambient lighting, pleasent focal point to gaze at while being massaged, or a variety of beverages upon request - there is not a detail which this establishment has missed. I have been to the spa several times with either my daughter or husband and we have managed to enjoy several of their services (salt room, presso therapy, flotation table, and sauna room) in addition to their basic massage. The Shelbourne Spa is not actually in the hotel, but three doors down to the right. I've never noticed it before as it blends in as one if the big Victorian style houses but it's really easy to find. The spa is actually upstairs but you have full use of the leisure club facilities when using the spa and these are on the ground floor. In terms of decor, it is every bit as elegant as the hotel, with big chandeliers and plush furniture. When you check in you are brought to change into your robe and slippers before being led to the relaxation room which looks over Stephen's Green, which I loved. If I'm honest, I've been in better relaxation rooms, this one was very bright and probably would have been relaxing if it wasn't for a group of really loud talkers. This wasn't the staff's fault but tainted the experience a little for me. In terms of refreshments there was a selection of teas, some small nibbles and water. Also, after your treatment you get a tasting plate of fruit, juice and sorbet. I opted for the 'Tropical' which consisted of pineapple juice, kiwi and coconut sorbet and it was delicious. The highlight for me was the treatment though. I received a gift of the "Celebratory Spa Package" which consisted of an Elemis facial and a hot- stone back massage. Both of these were excellent, the therapist was lovely and spoke me through the products she used afterwards. The one criticism I would have would be that it's quite expensive at €129 for the package which only lasted an hour. I would have expected it to last a little longer at this price. With the excellent staff, treatments and location I would definitely go back, but I think I'd be waiting for a special occasion!

Let me tell you feeling a popping sensation in your back is not hot. Having a masseuse take a focused battle to those muscles incites a range of emotions, such as you want her to win but you want her to stop too (she did ask me to speak up if the pressure was too much, so you do have control). "What popped?" "Oh that's just your muscles you have lots of knots. I am pushing them back were they should be." "Oh." "You are very tense." "I'm sorry." Why did I just apologise I asked myself. She looked at me with the same thought. "So yeah, you should do this more often." "OK." "Also you probably will be very sore tomorrow so get some anti-inflammatory cream." At this point you may be thinking, "Jez Annie you really sold this place to me and the massage." It was 20% bearable pain for me and the rest was very relaxing, also I opted for a deep tissue massage which as the name implies is not going to be sweetness and light. I made an appointment to get a 30min back massage in my lunch break the other day. My therapist was the lovely Laura who brought me to the relaxation area first and then offered me a robe. I told her I was on my break and needed to go back to the office so she tailored her usual routine to suit my schedule without compromising on time spent on my back. The massage itself was very good, good pressure and little talking - just the way I Iike it. The spa offers different deals depending on the weekday and they do run a loyalty scheme for returning clients. I will certainly be back soon and I will reserve the last star for when I tried one of their facials.

You get a nice bathrobe and slippers and the staff are very professional yet friendly. The facials here are much better than regular beauty salons and the products they use smell gorgeous. They also have some great deals and packages where you can get half and full day spa packed from 99 to 150 euro which includes the use of the thermal suite, and some that include lunch or cocktails. The atmosphere is so relaxing with nice relaxation chairs, dim lights, cushions, magazines and self service tea. I would highly recommend this spa for a massage or bath treatment as the quality is very high and the service is excellent.
