I'm not a huge fan, I have to say. The range of food is both slightly limited and odd, as well as feeling slightly elderly. There is, however, a huge range of alcohol - I think I counted around 17 types of tequila alone! (That may be a slight exaggeration, but there was a lot of choice!) I came here to buy a couple swishers (tobacco). I didn't have my ID 'cause I lost my wallet yesterday, yea I'm already having a shitty week. The guy denied me. Ya ya yeaaa I know, technically the law dictates you have to have ID..but i lost my dang wallet yesterday, we live in a city, and most the time in situations like these store owners are empathetic and use common sense. Even when I go to the DMV I won't get a new ID for weeks. This was the first time in ages I've even been asked my ID for tobacco. He said "I look young", ya..cuz I am dumbass, but can't you tell the difference between 16 and 24? You should, or else you might get in trouble with the law for something more serious ;} Look I'm persian so I hit puberty at 10 and have had strong "mustache ability" since then..not exactly a late bloomer. After Vic sold the place, we were disheartened. It was the most ghetto-dump I'd ever seen for a while. Then it closed. When we noticed that there was construction being done, we were afraid to hope. But- what an improvement! The place looks fantastic- definitely a much-needed upgrade. They are carrying higher quality products, such as wines, liquor and meats. And the service- just mention to Sam that you want him to carry something and he will do his best to get it for you. He always has at least a couple of good specials going on (Three Olives Vodka or Bulliet Bourbon for $20- bargain). I am glad Oakhill Market is back to being the great place this neighborhood deserves. read more

I spent over three years living across the street from this store and it got me out of more than a few jams. They carry almost anything you could want in a corner store and if they don't have it they will get it for you. The beer and wine selection is better than most, the place is always incredibly clean and the brothers that own the place are great people. Immaculate. Clean. Friendly. Quality. The best convenience store in San Francisco. Seriously. I can say this without a hint of hesitation, it's the cleanest convenience store in the city. The brothers that own it are incredibly nice and always greet you with a smile. They take incredible pride in their store and it shows. They have a great beer and wine selection and all the basic amenities you need. Sure, it's a little more expensive than a chain store but you are supporting a fantastic local business and it's worth it with the extra service they give you. I've lived in all areas of the city and I would be incredibly sad if I moved away from Oak Gourmet. You won't find a better corner store anywhere. I go here as often as I can and always try to buy my lotto tickets here in hopes that they win too! Shop here and support the type of business owners that make San Francisco great. read more

Vic is my provider of supplies, my history book and my therapist all found under one capitalistic roof. Many a morning I've made the walk of shame into Oak Hill Market (20 yards from my gate). Normally in such a situation, I might feel a bit embarrassed and hide behind my shades, but Vic passes no judgment and we always end up chatting for 5 minutes or longer. Vic has witnessed and consoled numerous dramatic happenings in our neighborhood (which is not as ghetto as the person below implied). He's been there for me too. And I'm very appreciative of him. It makes me sad because he's sold the market and we won't be seeing him much anymore. He will be missed by many. I hope you at least come to visit Vic. I've been living on the block with Oak Gourmet for about four months now and I cant say enough about how awesome the operators (brother's Sam and Ray) of this store are. They are the definition of friendly, they are always prompt, the below commented assertion that they will order things for you special is totally true, the store is clean, well stocked, and is all around the best run corner market I've seen in San Francisco. Truth is, I really don't shop there all that often, but these guys are always outgoing and willing just to say hi when I walk by. May these gents have a long and glorious proprietorship. read more

As far as corner street stores go, this is one of the tops. Always clean, and a great supply of staples for your kitchen, bathroom, pet as well as a decent selection of veggie friendly frozen goods. What really makes this place the best is the owner, Vic. He is always there with a smile and a great story about something that happened in the neighborhood. I also never actually see Vic come into or leave the store...does he live inside in a small room? Are there stairs in the back leading up to the apartment on the second floor? Is there a secret trap door? Does he transform into a different creature every evening, slipping out unnoticed? Whatever the scenario may be, it does not change that he is a true gentleman, he let me use his phone when I locked myself out the apartment. What a guy! read more

I love the brothers that run this place!!! They know every patron by name, and will order most anything for you. They carry gourmet and run of the mill items as well. it's clean and friendly and they have a lot of interesting items and a fantastic selection of wine at good prices... Chocolate from all over the planet.. Not just the run of the mill snickers and m&m a good amount of GF options. I am not GF but their GF cookies are gourmet and to die for!!!! I agree with the other two reviewers. Oak Hill Market is really good. Convenient in the way a convenience store should be. My only complaint: it's often closed when I get home from work. Why, Vic, why?! Do you need sleep like a normal human being? Alas. Having said that, once I was in the store trying to decide what to buy so I could break a $20 and have change for laundry. Vic saw right through my charade. But, he actually asked me about the laundry and if I needed different change to make getting the quarters easier. That is class, folks. I'm assuming not to long ago the store was sold to a new owner. This big, fat, ugly, mean,bald head grump. I promise this guy it's the worst. All the gentleman that work here are incredibly sweet, polite every time I come in to pick up the essentials (you know, toilet paper, Top Ramen, etc.) "Hello! How are you?! Happy New Year!" So cute. In fact, when I came in looking for a particular flavor of Ben & Jerry's ice cream and they didn't have it, one of the guys asked me to write it down so he could look into ordering it next time. This place re-opened recently under new management, and it is great! Good selection, super nice guy working there, and they even let me bring my dog in. In a neighborhood with many corner stores, this is my go-to. My only wish: longer hours. I think they're open 10am - 10pm. read more
