Overall, for what we arrived here for we got to use out of it. Which was for a morning walk/jog throughout this location. There is a six dollar per car fee to get inside. There are a good handful of rental spots when it comes to table areas. There are a lot of geese and ducks so be careful where you step throughout your visit. There is some permitted fishing with license as an option. I thought that certain areas walking through the trails could have been a little bit more maintenance especially with trash, cans and benches to sit down on that are located throughout. They do not permit dogs to be on the trails, but throughout we notice that was ignored as there were a lot of dog markings left and not picked up by the owners. There are also a few playgrounds and restroom areas located throughout, as well as what look to be like a little hall that you could rent with a deck access. if you're ever interested in doing the trails, both of them together were just under 2 miles long. This location was very close to home so therefore convenient they have a nature center but it's only open on Saturdays and there's also a little informational booth located explaining a little more about the nature center. decent spot to have birthday parties or celebrations staged here. There's also an amphitheater that seats about 400. read more

Great place for a big picnic with over 300 people using their pavilion. It has a stage and center area for dancing or other activities.

We held my daughter's first birthday party in their BOATHOUSE this past Sunday. We arrived at eight to set up for the party and noticed a mice in the storage room while the park employee was giving us instructions. He brushed it off and continued on. We mentioned it again and he brushed it off. Later during the party the mice came out and went straight to the kitchenette and into our food. It caused so much trouble and was so chaotic. The guest as myself were freaking out. At that point we seen an employee and informed him. He advised us that this was an on going issue and he would put traps out the following day. The employee was kind enough to find four traps and set them out during the party. and trapped one. Throughout the party the mice was in and out. We also seen a few rats as big as a soda can outside on the deck. We got in contact with the administrators office the following day and spoke to Sandy who stated the day before they had an event and they seen a mice however, it never came out and they had food. I informed her I had pictures for proof. Per Sandy they came to a conclusion that there would be no reimbursement due to it being a park and the setting. A simply apology or some kind of reimbursement as little as $50.00 would have been really appreciated. read more

I have been coming to this park for 15 years and it is definitely one of Stockton's 'hidden gems'. Though located off the 5 and 8 Mile Rd., this park keeps peaceful and relaxing tones with little disruption from cars traveling the nearby interstate and main roadways. I am an avid fisherman and enjoy the calmness of this lake. They stock the lake with trout and catfish every year, sometimes with several plants per year. There is also a small population of large mouth bass, bluegill and carp. People often come to play frisbee golf, as the park offers this sport as one of their most popular, due to the wide area and challenging placement of the 'holes'. There is group picnic available and if not reserved, is first come first served. BBQ grills are also available at most picnic stations. There is a lot for the kids to do also: Paddle boats can be rented as well, though I believe this option is not available year around. Two playgrounds are available for both toddler aged kids and older children as well. I will continue to go to this lake, as it is a nice getaway from the everyday hustle and busyness of normalcy. I've always got my fishing pole in the car in case I want to stop by, cast my line and kick back. read more

Fell in love with this park the first time I came. Lots of wide open spaces, picnic tables, parking, little pond with paddle boats, fishing, trails and a nature center. Park is well maintained and bathrooms are clean. There is an entrance free but I don't mind. The big con is the goose poop thats everywhere. But other than that the grass is always green and lots of shade and oak trees. This park also hosts Astronomy in the Park once a month and is a great time, def recommend. Plus its nice to experience the park after hours. Add this to your "places to check out in Stockton" list. read more

In the main, this park is nicely maintained. We enjoyed watching the squirrels, geese and ducks. There were many signs prohibiting feeding the geese - I suspect that this rule is at least partly intended to save nervous visitors from the multitudes of rather large and aggressive Canada Geese. Personally, I found the big birds amusing, but they made my girlfriend quite anxious. There are numerous trails around the periphery of the park - these seemed to receive minimal attention from the groundskeepers. Maybe they are aiming for a rustic, back to nature effect? I just saw a lot of dried out, dusty land. However, we had a good time and I recommend this park for family outings and picnics. read more

without a promotional event such as the Aspargus Festival; Oak Grove park is a nice park with a few trees, green water and lots of duck droppings to skip around (I mean a lot of shhhh...stuff line the shores of the pond). Don't get me wrong this place is visually nice, but on a 110 degree day there is few places to stay really cool. The oak trees being as young as they are; do little to shade much of the sun reflecting large stretches of grass. It's treeless landscape is more suitable for a golf course than a cool retreat from summer heat. The facility would be good for gatherings, if the weather is below 95 degrees and with a breeze. The pond being shallow is useless in cooling the park area. This park does have some activities that may interest you; fishing in green algae water, paddle boating, clubhouse, great bbQ pits, clean open latrine facilities while that lasts depending on budget, covered eating outdoor areas with running water and electricity, and vast stretches of open grass area. I went into Oak Grove Park with low expectations. I'm happy to write that Oak Grove park met my expectations. The times I've driven up I-5 to go to the Big Tomato, I've seen the park on the right, knowing that it was there, and thought "that's a county park?" Okay, I've been spoiled by Micke Grove. Oak Grove looked on the outside like someone took a large grove of trees, planted some grass, built a lake, and put in some parking lots, and called it a park. Overall, it looks like a larger version of a neighborhood park, without the neighborhood. Lots of picnic areas. Frisbee golf. Amphitheater. Even an undeveloped portion in the back, where you can take a stroll through the large oaks. My somewhat niece just graduated from high school, and her party was held here, in the Boat House. It was booked for the weekend after graduation . . . then the county called her mother and said, "Sorry, we overbooked for that day, we'll need to move the party to another day." Not cool, guys. Still, the Boat House was a good place to have a small party like we had. Indoor and outdoor seating, an outdoor place to cook (they catered tacos), overlooking the lake. The lawn in front is quite shady. Not a place I'm itching to go back to. Micke Grove is only a few miles away, and is much, much better. But it depends on your intentions; it'll work for a family get-together or club gathering. read more

I have actually visited this park twice in the last week. I had never heard of it before seeing an event at their nature center about butterflies. My daughter loves nature and butterflies so I took her. The presentation was above her 5 year old level but she loved the park and the crafts! I visited the park again tonight to see Venus and plan to go to Astronomy in the park soon as well. I walked around and played with the ducks, was chased by a few aggressive geese and ate a picnic dinner. I saw that they have some nice trails and that the bathrooms are clean! Bonus! I plan to bring my daughter back to play on the playgrounds and walk the trails. The goose poo is kinda gross but that is what you get when you want real nature and not only cement. I actually enjoy paying the $5 entrance fee because with it you get clean grounds and it feels safer. I might end up paying the annual pass if we go a couple more times because it will probaby be cheaper in the long run. My daughter wants to rent a paddle boat, i'm going to have to look in to the charges for that. read more

Overall the park was super nice however one staff member was rude you could tell she was mad to be there and wanted to leave, we did have a few questions about the park she didn't let us speak before saying nope leave it's closed now five o'clock and then turned her speaker on and said the park was closed we didn't mind leaving we just had a few questions and when trying to ask again she interrupts once more and repeats that the park is closed mind you when trying to ask we weren't being in any way rude. read more

Goose poop EVERYWHERE. And I mean everywhere. Don't expect to come here and be able to do a leisurely stroll because you have to constantly look where you're stepping. An amazing park on the outskirts of Northern Stockton. I don't know why they ever moved the Asparagus Festival to downtown Stockton...when it was here it was so much a different event. I remember coming here for the Asparagus Festival and parking in a dirt lot across the street from the park and knowing that my car would be veryyy dirty at the end of the day. There have been many a day as a child that I used a paddle boat out on the lake or sat in the shade of one of the oak trees during a hot summer day. We have a family friend who used the park for Frisbee golf...before that point I had no idea that Frisbee golf even existed. Oak Grove sits at a very important part of Stockton. At this day and time it is basically the Northern most part of the City of Stockton, on the Southern side of Eight Mile Road. This for many years has been proposed to be the Northern green belt between Stockton and Lodi. Partially because of it's location on the outskirts of the city the park has remained very clean and safe. While houses have sprung up around it, Oak Grove has remained an awesome park and an integral part of Stockton. Hopefully it will remain that way for years to come... :0) read more

It's a shame that it takes going all the way to the outskirts to be this comfortable, but in the end it's worth it. Considering I had to pass about 20 parks (big and small) to get to this one I wanted to give it 5 stars but there were a few things going against it that invalidate a perfect score in my eyes. Let's get the cons out of the way. 1.) Bird Poop. Like an insane amount of it. It's not that average windshield splat kind of stuff either. We are talking waterfowl. Geese. It's as if a thousand little puppies marched on the pavement and relieved themselves every five feed. I seriously found myself more comfortable walking off the pavement because I couldn't see what I was stepping on. 2.) A lot of the grass was dead. It's California we have a serious drought going on but with my experience visiting other parks, free parks, parks homeless live even... in the grass is flourishing and well maintained. The park has a lot of amenities and it seems as though maybe the people in charge might look at that as a trade off for a nice lawn. Either way it wasn't terrible, just not pretty to look at. As I only came to this park to take my dog for a walk and to wear him down a bit I can't speak for the nature trail or any of the services, excluding the pay booth which I found the woman there to be not only kind but informative. I can however speak for the atmosphere and when it comes to that I was beyond pleased. In Stockton, feeling comfortable where you are is a rarity. So much so you not only have to travel out of your way, but you have to pay for it. For people like me who don't enjoy social drinking or dining the miracle mile isn't really my bag. Also being an owner of a pitbull you find yourself unwelcome at the dog parks. So I wanted to find a place where my little guy and I could roam freely, without worry and without judgement. Though he really wanted to play with the birds he managed to have a great time there. He's not allowed off his leash but we made it work. This park is worth the visit. read more

I spent the week in Lodi but made the drive south a bit to play some Disc Golf. WoW what a great course. The park is so beautiful. I might just get an annual pass for this place for 70 bucks and save myself 5 bucks per visit. Pets or only $1 which is nice. If playing watch out for the water on holes 5,6, and 7. I lost one disc having played there 4 times so i can lose one now and then. Really beautiful place to hangout for the day and enjoy the scenery. read more

Absolutely gorgeous park. Been coming here since I was little for everything from birthday parties, to festivals, and even corporate events. Very well maintained. The few bad reviews seem to be from people who obviously don't understand it's a park, not a hotel conference room. There are plenty of geese, but you shouldn't feed them. Nice, easy hiking paths. Playground and seasonal boats for kids. They even have night sky festivals+events sometimes. The history here is so lovely, and I am so thankful that someone had the mind to protect this beautiful piece of nature. read more

A great county of San Joaquin Park with an 18 hole disc golf course (frisbee golf), a 10 acre lake stocked with catfish and trout, paddle boat rentals, covered BBQ and picnic table areas, 2 trails,and a nature center. If you live in the area and haven't been here yet, you don't know what you're missing. The perfect place for a family reunion, a daily walk on the trails or just some peaceful time in a massive area minus the concrete jungle! There's even a youth campground with room for 150 only $25 a night. A great first campout for your scout troop! read more

We visited the park last Sunday. The facilities were find and the day went well until we were ready to leave. About 30 to 40 teenagers and adults on bikes were lined up on both sides of the exit road. They would charge at the cars then veer off at the last second. They would do wheelies at the cars. I used to come here all the time when I was a teenager for the kite fly and asparagus festival and even when i was younger with my Girl Scout Troop. Drove quite a distance to get here from the East Bay for a running event. You know you've driven far when presets on your car radio changes to static and mumbo jumbo. The park was a bit disappointing. Every step, I found myself trying to avoid the bird poops. It's like we were all playing hopscotch trying to avoid all of that. And, there's a lake with the sign "No Fishing" & "No Swimming". I wouldn't swim in it. The water is really dark and murky and Creature from the Black Lagoon would pop out of there any moment and get ya. No water pump either to keep the water in movement for the mosquitoes to stay away. If you plan on having an event here be very cautious! And do not expect a refund! After reserving and paying for the shelter in advance, the place was disgusting when we arrived for our event! The place wasn't even cleaned out! The geese feces and dirt everywhere. It took thirty minutes for the maintenance guy to even show up and said it would take him at least an hour! We ended up at a smaller area, what else was I suppose to do. I called the office during the week since they were closed over the weekend and spoke to Judy, she made it my fault saying they "accommodate" me. No you didn't! I was left with no other options. I wasn't going to change my venue last minute! Mind you the park had a good full morning to clean this place up since we didn't get there until 11 and the park opens at 8! They have you sign this contract stating no refunds with late cancellations but when it comes to their own mistakes they take no accountability! I'll be taking my business elsewhere! read more

I usually ride my bike here to avoid the parking fee which is a little steep. It's a perfect place for a power walk or easy trail run, I usually take the Miwok Nature trail which is the longer of the two. It's beautiful, and there are sections where you feel like you're miles away from Stockton and the freeway. Those of us who live in North Stockton are lucky to have this retreat to escape from the world and enjoy nature for a little while. Lots of ponds, grass, tables to sit and read or have a picnic/bbq. There is also a disc golf course (I think that's what its called?) that is really popular and looked like a lot of fun. Also I've seen peddle boats on the pond on weekends during the summer time. If you're someone who, like me, drives by this park every day but never realized what a gem it is, take the time some sunny afternoon to enjoy it! You won't be sorry. read more

I did an open mic event here years ago and even came back just recently to attend a nephews birthday. This is a beautiful park. I love coming here to have our family pictures taken. The scenery is gorgeous. My kids love coming to feed the ducks as well as fish in the pond.
