Peaceful summer evening (small dog area)
    Kenda K.

Pros: * Huge vast playing area for playing sports. * Nicely divided dog park for your small doggies and normal-sized doggies. * For the most part... (2-3 days after) it's kept nicely clean considering the many events (baby showers, bdays etc.) it attracts. Itty bitty con: * The park is still fairly new, so don't expect too much shade here.

Great dog park with a separate section for little dogs - where the fence is buried in the ground and there are no gaps through which a small dog can escape! It was perfect for us while we were traveling with our 27 & 13 pound dogs. The 1 picnic table and new drinking fountain are nice. It's pretty small though, I imagine it gets crowded when it's nice out. Be warned: it's closed on Monday mornings for Park maintenance.

    Park has metal power stands.

My son enjoyed himself, playing basketball, football, in the playground and then basketball again.

Unfortunately, dog parents are not good about picking up after their dogs even though dog poop bags are provided along with plenty of trash cans throughout park. Also, some dog parents are not experienced so sometimes dogs will show dominance and not be corrected. It's unfortunate that a few bad people can ruin the experience for the rest of us considerate responsible dog owners!!

Things to like about Beckman Park as a dog park (big dog area): (1)HUGE. Your pup can run and run…read moreand run. (2) Shade. Plenty of trees on the upper areas of the park for those days when your pup wants to run but you want to loaf in the shade. (3) Huge. Yes, I know I already said it was huge, but it really is. (4) Poop bag dispensers near each of the entry gates. (5) Some users are good citizens - putting found toys (balls, discs, etc) near the gates for their owners to find, randomly filling the water bowls, etc. Things where Beckman Park could be better: (1) Both entries to the large dog area are single gates, so it's easy for dogs to slip past others trying to get in/out, and escape out to the street. (2) The poop bag dispensers are not always stocked, so bring a bag or two of your own, just in case. (3) Some dog owners do not pick up after their dogs, so lawn grenades can be a problem. (4) The park is bisected into an off-leash area and a leashed area, but the dividing line is not fenced. It IS marked by a sign, but my dog can't read. (5) There is no water available in the big dog area for dogs. Hence, the good citizens who provide water randomly. Most of the owners - and dogs - using this park are friendly and easy going. If your dog gets a little rambunctious, a sincere apology is usually all it takes to clear the air. Dogs being dogs, they like to sniff each others' butts and chase each other around, and most owners seem to understand that.

This is the designated dog side. To the left (south side of the park) are soccer fields where dogs are not allowed off leash.

American Legion Park is probably the iconic park of Stockton. I'm not saying it's the best park,…read morebut it is the park that most resembles "old" Stockton in that the entire city used to congregate here for the 4th of July decades ago. First, Stockton wasn't always on the wrong side of a population 350k or more. I remember when we were about half that in the early 80's. This park was the premiere location to hang out and just relax. There really isn't much for facilities here. There is basketball, a kids playground and that's about it. The grassy bank protecting the 'hood from flooding is kinda cool because it provides an interesting pathway around the park and the Smith Canal. There are some concrete tables and benches if you want to throw a quick BBQ or just share some beers during COVID. You can fly a drone and get some great pics of Stockton from about 500 feet. You can throw a frisbee and lose in said Canal. You can talk a dog for a nice walk around and double back or shoot all the way to Pershing and make a loop. In short, this isn't the largest, most beautiful, or even the best facilites, but the location matters and this place used to the heart of Stockton when times were a lot better (kid of the 80's, greatest decade ever)!

I visited this park on mother's day. They do have lots of green grass area, a lake or the pond ...I don't know if that's the body of water from the delta. Anyway, it's a cool spot to take the family to, if you don't want to go to the sometimes overcrowded Victory Park down the street.

There are a good handful of rental spots when it comes to table areas. There are a lot of geese and ducks so be careful where you step throughout your visit. There is some permitted fishing with license as an option. I thought that certain areas walking through the trails could have been a little bit more maintenance especially with trash, cans and benches to sit down on that are located throughout. They do not permit dogs to be on the trails, but throughout we notice that was ignored as there were a lot of dog markings left and not picked up by the owners. There are also a few playgrounds and restroom areas located throughout, as well as what look to be like a little hall that you could rent with a deck access. if you're ever interested in doing the trails, both of them together were just under 2 miles long. This location was very close to home so therefore convenient they have a nature center but it's only open on Saturdays and there's also a little informational booth located explaining a little more about the nature center. decent spot to have birthday parties or celebrations staged here. There's also an amphitheater that seats about 400.
